You are not going to believe this. After watching your previous video, I literally went on Facebook marketplace and bought a garbage bike. Thank you for providing me a solution for locking my bike outside for long periods of time. I used to take my road bike to grocery shopping, and I would get quite stressed that it would get stolen. Now, I don’t need to worry.
My beater bike, which is also my utility bike, cost 160€ new - about 14 years ago. It has a hi-ten steel frame, 24" wheels and the legendary Sram Two-speed Automatix rear hub with a coasting brake (where production was stopped in 2017). I upgraded this bike with Shimano Deore front v-brake and Shimano Deore MTB brakehandle, quality front wheel and hub, Pitlock seatclamp, Miche Team 1 crankset, Tecora e bottom bracket, YBN chain(s), HT Cheetah pedals, Terry Fly saddle, Procraft double lock on grips, Knog Oi bell, Pletscher Optima kickstand and a Thule Sweden back rack. Changed the rear cog from 21t to 16t. I call it "Piranha". This bird is as bullet proof as it can get, still in great working condition and as much fun to ride as my FG bikes... well, almost.
I'm in a grey area with my fished up canal bike. Even though I have thousands of euros worth of fancy bikes in my garage, I've started to almost exclusively use this one. It just always works and I don't need to care about it getting rusty or dirty ot damaged. And I really love it for that care-free experience. Also the tyres on it are way too good, I just had them laying around and they're second hand, but they're still excellent fast Panaracer Pasela tyres. I love those.
Sounds like you're alright, my friend! Maybe sell one of those fancier bikes if you want some relief, but hey as long as you enjoy your riding, don't sweat about not using the fancier ones. Their time will return.
I have an old markenrad MARS that got passed down from my grandma. its a single speed SACHS coaster brake with 20" wheels, it also folds in half and has a full incandescent lighting with a dynamo. luggage rack and mud guards. i have a much more expensive bike but for some reason i always take the little "circus" bike. its very fun to ride. i gifted it with new period correct tires and tubes. Nice video.
if you haven't heard it, there's a pretty popular although maybe on the way to becoming archaic word for an old garbage bike, "havelåge", meaning fence gate
I love my garbage bikes. One is a Peugeot steel frame from the 80's that I slapped some wheels I had laying around on. It actually rides pretty damn good. Then I have a road bike that I put some beefier tires on along with some 4 piston brakes which is totally overkill but again, they were laying around and now it stops real fast.
No one has ever before fitted a horn to their bike and then checked to make sure it can still do bar spins. I recently swapped my fixed gear garbage bike for a slightly better but still cheap singlespeed mountain bike so that I can ride through woods and down stairs on my way to the station/shop/pub.
You're right! I'm cutting edge here! SS MTB garbage bike sounds pretty good! I value freewheeling in a garbage bike too, and the purpose is to make your garbage bike as convenient as possible for YOUR specific situation.
Your other video convinced me to keep my old bike. My wife and I got new ebikes and we were going to sell our garbage bikes (they were cheap when we got them and not good) but your other video convinced us we should just keep them as garbage bikes.
I had one as a kid in the 90's. It was my old bike I had from new, had to have it welded (frame broke from wheelies I guess), repainted by hand and brush (different shade of blue). And was before we had real bike locks common in my country. I never seen one personally then :D You had junk bike or it got stolen, lol.
Now all you have to do is add beer holders (you can coffee cup holders if you like) re-grease the hubs, get out the spoke key and true up your wheels, replace the tyres, add mud guards and presto! You have a project bike that you'll cry over when some low life steals it! Care and attention and love. Just add grease.
that new chain needs tensioning to avoid it coming off, especially if there's no other brakes. just adjust the rear wheel in the forkend a bit further, should be enough space.
Yeah dude for a garbage bike I wouldn’t care too much about the perfect size. As long as it’s bigger than the average bike, you should be fine. But you can keep searching for an xl even if you “settle” for a different size today.
Sorry about that. I was holding the camera with one hand and wanted to turn around the bike and start riding. Then I edited that part out anyways, so it was a bit unneeded...
@@addvurtbikes the dislikes on this video when i made this comment were over 50% dislikes, as i check it now that is not the case and I think it must have been a glitch.
@@inventerlender I wow that's crazy! Yeah maybe it was a glitch or maybe it actually was like that at some very early point? Sorry for the bot thing, there was another similar comment and I was confused about the whole thing :) have a great day!
You should have reflectors front, side and rear, plus lights wouldn't be bad idea either, to be able to ride in darkening evenings and afternoons of the Nordic. Those are not actual upgrades even, they're just sensible safety features to help staying alive riding your bike. You can go find old reflectors from disposed bikes and basic LED battery lights found in supermarkets are cheap. You have needs to ride outside the daylight hours too, don't you?
If I'm riding in the dark, I put on some small lights. As for reflectors... I might have some in a box somewhere that I have taken off from bikes. You're right, it wouldn't hurt to put some on this one. Reflective tape would be nice, actually.
@@addvurtbikes In general I appreciate the idea of having a trash bike a lot, been contemplating such for a wile already, but being a master procrastinator haven't gotten one done yet. Maybe one day, maybe one day... 🤔

good man, i have fallen in love with my beater bike, its bound to happen, you look after the bike, and he

Your garbage bike got a new chain, and I got back on the bike!
Only a brief 3 miles as a test but we outside!
Yeeees! Finally! Take it easy but have a lot of fun!
your horn is amazing. would love one like that on my bike
thank you my friend! just visit your local clown store :)

Thanks! That’s a really cool bike you have!
i have a "garbage" bike i gave it 5 spoke steel wheels so its a tank, it has survived 4 car accidents with minimum damage.
Oh my god! Steel wheels 😍 that sounds wild, but how did you end up after 4 car accidents??
All bikes go to heaven!
Even e-bikes?

good choice! e-bikes are high in demand and thieves go after them :(

Watching from Argentina, I don't feel I could have a bike I don't mind loosing, but I'll definitely gonna try building a garbage bike. ✌️

the cup holder is actually very good idea! except to see it in a future video!
@@addvurtbikes Just don't over-spend on it! It'd be terrible if it became a project bike.
I already have a thing in my shed :) my wife bought it years ago to put on a baby stroller, but the kids have outgrown the baby stroller now :)

thanks for looking out, bro. I’ll adjust if needed. chain will probably slightly elongate with time
That bell ended me 😂😂😂
It's pretty nice, eh? :D
Commit to the bit; you did!
Proud, master Yoda would be!
“Garbage bike” lol😅
garb age
chain is too loose
Meh, it’s fine
I call it a pub bike. Mine has a 20” wheel on front and 26” on rear.
mullet bike! Sounds cool :)
Frankenbike is a term, alo a swap meeet in Austin texas.
sounds spooky!
They are also known as Ghetto bikes ☝🏻
I would probably not call it that, but I get it
i need to find a garbage bike. problem is nobody sells garbage bikes that are xl, but i should probably be less picky

But comedy though
Pretty fun video style. What area in Sweden is this, by the way? Looks quite peaceful
Thanks! Stockholm suburb on the north side of town :)
what do you call that kind of bike? im curious, its a single speed that can free wheel but brakes when u backpedal it?
Coaster brake
Can i steal it?
good question. if I say yes, is it still stealing?
