Currently sitting at home, ill as hell, and with my bike just hanging from the wall. This vid both really scratched my itch for bike adventures, and at the same time kinda made me mad I can't get on the bike and just go. Great vid, as always!
I can relate. In May I crashed with an SUV and broke my collarbone. Three weeks after surgery I was back on my bike because I was going bonkers just sitting around, watching other people ride their bikes.
"...but i don't know how fast I'm going, i don't know how far I'm going, I don't know how many times I've ridden this month, that's not really important to me. I care about the feel of the ride and the experience of the places I go." - damn! the feels! it's that feeling of being alive that makes cycling such a joy, the freedom it brings. It's refreshing to see creators like you, the brand of cycling you talk about is something i relate to alot. thank you for sharing this.
One of my favorite videos of all time seriously. You basically said everything I love about riding my bike / fixed gear in one video. Keep up the great content I’ll be on the lookout !!!
Woww... I am planning to buy a bicycle, feeling motivated to just go out somewhere, unplanned. This video is amazing and clearly shows your love for the cycling.
Thanks! Keep doing what you love :) I just personally have some difficulties with data, it tends to take over my mind sometimes, so I’m a bit scared of it :)
I always appreciate that your videos embody why I only ride fixed gear bikes, the sense of achievement & connected feeling with the bike is indescribable really. I hope you don't mind my saying but when you mentioned you run brakeless; I'm sure you've been told & know, but it can be incredibly dangerous. I rode brakeless until 1 year ago yesterday (Oct 5, 2023) when my chain dropped going down a hill & I crashed at 46kmh, breaking 3 bones in my arm, off the bike for 3 months. Please consider adding a front brake, not only for your own safety & your loved ones, but you will find you can ride even faster & enjoy rapid descents & the bike in general much more! Thanks again for your videos, and enjoy the rides & stay safe (especially entering winter ;) )
I fully agree with you :) Also, jeez, that crash sounds horrible. Absolutely terrifying. I'm happy that it didn't get even worse, but it still sounds very bad. I don't actually intend to ride brakeless, but I have been super mega lazy with installing handbrakes, and now I've gone almost the entire season without getting it done. I have one video where I talk about my feelings about brakeless in more detail. And I actually snapped a chain the other week, which was scary as heck. Thank god it was low speed and on a bike with hand brakes. Thanks for the very thoughtful comment!
@@addvurtbikes will be sure to check out the other videos! I'm all healed thankfully & the bike survived just fine. Steel is real :D Yeah, the chain snapping is very scary sounding having just watched that one after I made my original comment. Very similar to my crash, my chain dropped (due to slack, I hit a slight bump so when I went to backpedal it just came off). I think the scary thing when you lose drivetrain is that you actually speed up, as you mentioned in that video. Glad you're ok!
This is what I love about my bike. Being able to just hop on it and see somewhere i wasn't even planning on seeing that day. I live in Hawaii and a trip to the coast is always just a few minutes.
@@bearclaw10 is there a single place on planet earth where motorists are nice to bike riders? Also, im adding hawaii to my bucket list around the world trip :)
good video and just in time because i was just getting into fixed bikes. i really want a mix of track and fgfs bike so i can travel places and still do tricks because thats what makes it fun for me
I was about to off myself one evening, then a single thought arrived "Go ride" I say why not? that night I saw that life is worth living. The good and the bad, experiencing them what gives life purpose. I often talk to myself when depressive thought arise, 'life's worthless, why go on?' "I like riding my bike, I'd like to go for a ride tomorrow "
2:20 to 2:50 just struck a chord with me. I was thinking about getting a gps watch to see how long and far my daily rides are, and my top speed. Perhaps this is just the way I need to be.
We are all different. If your goal is to be faster or to go longer, data might help you. I just don’t care about those things right now, and data would just become an addiction for me.
@@addvurtbikes I know, but this video made me realize the fact i haven't done it yet is a personality trait, rather than a lack of resources. It was rather poetic and moving. There is a massive group fun ride in Iowa, from the Missouri River to Mississippi River. Closed country roads, about 100k (+or- 30k) days for a week. That might be worth tracking my ride lengths training for. It's called RAGBRAI, they have been doing it for about 50 years now. They ship your backpack between each overnight town. Tons of people ride 1 or 2-day segments, but 8,500 do the full week registration.
@@jwj8201 I’m happy that the video had a positive impact on you :) thank you for the kind words! That ride sounds amazing. I have never done a big cycling trip like that. Only single day rides so far. Do you sleep in tents?
@@addvurtbikes Most people do, thats the bag you can have them transport site to site. Hotels are usually hard to get on site, but a neighboring town works if you have family driving a support vehicle. Some might have their wife or friend drive a camper to each stop. Car traffic isn't bad, but the density of riders on course and at facilities can be overwhelming at times. There is no race component to it, just about a 700k route.
1:25 "You won't let anything stand in your way", well you better hope there's nothing standing in your way when you're too cool to install brakes on your bike lmao

I actually carry nothing but my phone for most rides. I should probably pack a minimal saddle bag that I just get and forget. I like the ideas of bringing monoculars or binoculars!

@addvurtbikes yea,it is already what I'm doing, I have a hobby level mountain bike, but I also want to get my hands on a racer bike, I like mostly old ones as they seem to have something the new ones don't have and by that I mean that feel and look of vintage, idk I just like them more.
