    I like your videos because it's straight into the informative stuff. And it's comprehensive, enough to explain the. Technical detail .. I watched you do a ten percent survey assessing the mite counts You got a bad one .. I would like to know ... At what lvl d you. Treat and ... Do you treat the whole yard ?

    As a commercial beekeeper. Why not just put ametras And a sticky paper at the bottom of the hive and after a couple of days, just count the mites, no need to kill the bees.

      @beefarmerjake I'm curious how many acres it takes for 2-3 hives to produce 100 pounds of honey, assuming it's a rural area with solid wildflowers and trees that would favor honey production. I'm looking into buying 500 acres of land (probably Kentucky or Tennessee) and producing honey would be something that want to include with it. I'm planning on an extensive fruit and nut orchard as well as wildflowers, goldenrod and many other favorable pollinator plants.

    • @christofboehm1638
      @christofboehm1638 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ the area is defined by the radius of flight of the bees. So it is fixed, only differs (up to 2 miles distance to the hive )by bee race. Besides internal effects and Management Yield is defined by environmental conditions ( Temperature, humidity, soil) and vegetation.

    • @BlahBlah122-b2t
      @BlahBlah122-b2t วันที่ผ่านมา

      @christofboehm1638 so approximately how many hives could I have with a conservative estimate on 500 acres loaded with wildflowers and trees like black locust, basswood, fruit and nut trees, with ideal conditions in say Tennessee or Kentucky? The surrounding land looks like dense deciduous forest. I wouldn't be moving the hives off the property.

    • @christofboehm1638
      @christofboehm1638 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I am not familiar with the Environment. You really need to Talk with the localbeekeepingassociation. Under the assumption you could take high risks because It’s Hobby: Choose 3 Locations each in at least 1mile distance. Places Must have good acces with trailer whole year Avoid cold spots ( valley bottom). It’s good with trees in north and at least exposed to sun either in east, south or west Put an Even number of hives probably Not more than 16 per location After 2-3 years experience delete your worst Location to find a better spot. I bet you Need Electric wire against predators.

    Was your ears ringing...I was thinking of you yesterday hope the mean people didn't run him off every few have really world content like Jake . I haven't needed to feed sense I finally figured out the mite program .. we did 150 pounds of goldenrod guess I've been feeding that back keeping the brood nest shut down.. I couldn't sell it after dropping apivar then a Tymol flash and nice long oav burn. Used mechanical treatments rest of the season and that's been the game changer.. mix of mechanical and chemicals lights out for the mites . Bees are filling dead spots themselves nuc yard I was in yesterday I know good and well had 6 deadouts after I started it in July wasn't any yesterday something must of swarmed.. when I do feed I like fondant anymore.. less weight on the truck zero waste . I can keep box full on the truck for months doesn't ferment sour or trigger robbing. I find a light one I can pile on 12 lbs of fondant not worried it's going to get to robbed or ferment.. fondant is inverted sugar like feeding that expensive mann lake syrup that's inverted without the moisture.. giving me month head start on nuc season. Syrup has to much moisture in Michigan in February but not fondant.. I had to figure out a recipe because fondant is expensive.. cost me 50 cents a pound making it in the microwave . I think years ago fondant is what bee keepers used. See them drawing white wax on it in the dead of winter tells me alot they don't do that on syrup... syrup seems to set back the weak and sick ones were the fondant they pop on it

    So very interesting to see as the daughter of a South African Bee Farmer - my Dad would be 90 this year and he kept his bees up until his passing at 84 - that's over 70 years of beekeeping . Sadly my younger son who just turned 16 is fascinated but Grandpa is no longer here to learn from . Just wondering if you ever offer internships that could lead to work opportunities to hardworking South Africans post High School ?

    October 18th things need to be done already , yep that’s the truth. Yes that Apis supplement will keep the bees kicked in gear, I need to watch that, as up here we need to shut them down. I love the ApisBiologix in spring as we set them out and want the hammer down It’s nothing more or less than natural encouragement

      Some guys treat it like a magic bullet. It’s not that, not a bullet at all. Just a bit of extra powder to help that bullet along. Completely in a natural approach. It doesn’t fix bad bees nor will it stop bees from becoming bad. It will crank out the good bees. Sometime momentum is the edge we need

    • @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog

      As for the theme of this video, I have two comments. You obviously keep coming back to this video project for a reason, and I suspect it’s for the same reason that I keep coming back to my video project, it’s that we want to share our passion. We have a lot up be proud of and that is what viewers want to watch. Be aware though, as you are a commercial operator as I am, you will get laughed at by other commercial beekeepers and that will drive a knife through your heart. Just remember, those comments are meaningless and done because they know the impact it has. Too many guys thrive on cutting others down. You will find, beyond the (small number) of hate, there are beekeepers who are genuinely interested. I hope you can manage these things so that I can see more of these videos Oh, and yes, I also know what kinda dynamics carrying a camera around the farm is all about! People only see a fraction of what goes on here :) my brothers are my biggest critics 😂

  • @sidelinerbeekeeper
    @sidelinerbeekeeper 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My thoughts are that the majority of views come from people learning. Only a few hundred watch every channel requardless of the content. A few thousand viewers are loyal to their favorite channels. Beekeeping on YT is a tough market. A landscape YT channel with an excavator gets 80k views three times a week, or a homestead channel gets 300k. I'm not sure why someone would put the effort into Beekeeping videos if they have anything better to do. I'm one of those loyal viewers of all and / or any videos Beekeeping related, so keep up the good work. Have fun with the babies, they don't stay young very long.

    • @beefarmerjake
      @beefarmerjake 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s amazing what people will mindlessly watch when they have no interest in ever actually doing it. Trying to make teaching content is hard work. Pulling out the camera while I’m already working is not. Thanks for the comment

  • @russellkoopman3004
    @russellkoopman3004 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the video. Glad your mite counts are settled down. If in a yard of 50 colonies you take say 5 mite checks and you find 0's and 1's in 4 samples but the 5th one is 20 mites, do you treat the whole yard then?

    • @beefarmerjake
      @beefarmerjake 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it was an outlier like that I would leave it to survive. If I’m washing nothing but 0s and 1s then I don’t want the genetics of the bomb to live in my operation. Sure there will be drift, but we’re never treating individual hives. Always at the yard level.
