You guys sure made a hard hot job look easy. I know you're all young and 'bullet proof' but be mindful off possible heat exhaustion. I worked for a small commercial beekeeper just a few times when he was short handed in the early 80's. I remember hauling over wintered bees back from Texas to NW Iowa on two large flatbed trucks. Going thru the weigh stations always made me laugh. The first truck would stop for about 10 seconds and get the green light immediately. The second truck wouldn't even have to slow down! Keep up the good work!
You guys made it look sooooo easy honestly. I'm a first year beekeeper..... I got my butt kicked, learning as I go. And it was rough, you all seemed so comfortable and efficient around all those bees.
Your comment made me think more about our “comfort” around the bees. It’s just subconscious now, but I remember back when I was getting used to it. Always helped me to just go sit on a lid and eat a snack without a veil and observe (before working them of course) might have to make a vid on that 😂😂
Oh I shudder thinking of fume boards. Sitting at the Christmas dinner table and smell it on my fingers, wondering if I’m The only one who smells that HA
@jakemoore Ienjoyed your video - do you have killer bees out there. I am a beekeeper myself here in Ghana and the bees are quite aggressive so we do use extra protection when ever we work with them
I've got some truck envy. Nice rig! I've been looking at getting something bigger than my 550's for when I'm pulling honey or moving 150-300 hives and it's not worth calling a semi.
Thanks!! These trucks are great for both of those things for sure. We can put on up to 384 singles, just might be a little heavy. We usually do 128 doubles and 192 story 1/2s easy. I know there are people that do that with 550s but honestly these trucks aren’t much more when you consider the lifespan of them vs a 550.
@jakemoorehoney I only use them to pull comb honey, especially the few Ross Rounds I try to make each year. Fume either doesn't penetrate those or the bees just don't want to leave.
More or less the same way I do it. Common milkweed is starting to bloom here in PA. I have a lot of it in my area. Get a nice nectar flow from it. I'll be pulling full supers all the way until august. I'm just a hobbyist but provide to hundreds of families in my area. Learned from some of the best and I can maximize my yield from each colony.
@@beefarmerjake It starts around mid-June and lasts all July b/c there are up to 8 or 9 varieties of it that bloom. I pull supers from one apiary at a time. Just so I'm not overloaded with work all at once. You have to be in more rural areas. People that like to mow a lot destroy the milkweed plant before it ever blooms. By the third week of August were into the fall honey flow. Japanese knotweed, goldenrod, then aster. Thanks for sharing Jake!
I think fume boards are by far the most efficient way for every operation 😁😁. What’s your dad think about the whole TH-cam thing? I watch farmers and some dads are more enthusiastic about it. Some get involved immediately and others it has taken a while for them to get involved in the channel…

We’re constantly reminding our crew to stay hydrated! It’s very important especially when pulling honey.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you! And great job!!
So glad!
Do y’all use queen excluders between your deeps and supers so you get only honey in the supers or do y’all have a different method?
If it’s a single, yes. If not then we just make sure the first super is a 6”

@@beefarmerjake Oh wow, interesting, thanks for the reply!
Thank you for sharing. Very efficient operation.
Thanks for watching!
If you don’t mind me asking, which drone do you use for those aerial shots?
Mavic Mini 2!

I don’t want to sound pretentious, but I haven’t touched them in a few years 🤣
Great video Jake!
Thank you!
Most of the frames I’m seeing there are not capped. Some look less than half
It was a rough year lol
Greetings from an AZ beekeeper! Awesome channel bro! GOD bless!
Thank you!

No killer bees here!
Does it look Like you are going to have a fair season. Thanks
Looks like we’re down about 40% this year on tallow/wildflower.
@@beefarmerjake that’s what I am hearing also from the South east of you . Have a good week. Thanks
I passed you and the crew on Hwy 90 around Felicia a couple of days ago y’all were heading towards Devers
Nice!
Do you worry with moisture content of the honey.
Yes, that is something we monitor as we extract. We do have the ability to dry it in our warehouse.
@@beefarmerjakeyour cooler room would remove moisture but is it slower extracting ?
Yes we actually make it about 80 degrees and dehumidify it this time of year. It’s about 30% humidity at the moment.
Is 18.5% moisture safe for storing lifetime?, I have some I can't seem to dry it any lower
@@scottreese5492 yes the threshold for fermenting is over 21%

Glad to see ommercial using g fume board. Seems a another use escape boards.
I didn’t even know what an escape board was until this year 😂😂😂

Tallow?
The tallow tree. Makes a bunch of honey (usually)

Absolutely! How long does that flow last? I know nothing about the flora on the east coast.

Hi Jake, if you need an extra man power with lower salary please let me know, I really like bees, thanks

Yet there are so many people that swear by other options lol…. I’m hoping to get my dad involved at some point. I think he likes it 🤷🏻♂️
Bee go smells like dog poop! I Like Honey Bandit! Has a cherry smell.😁
The worse it smells the better it works LOL!
Surprised ya'll don't use blowers to clear more bees. And it is HOT!
Fume boards work GREAT! and YES it is haha
@@beefarmerjake fume boards the only way to pull honey on a hot sunny day.
Bee blowers aren't as bee friendly.
Absolutely right
Any tips for a 16 year old starting bee keeping with the plan of it becoming a source of income
Take care of the bees and they will take care of you!
I see you were using a deep and medium for your combination that's what real Southern beekeeper use that combination impose to double deeps
Absolutely!
Another great video, the music is very catchy too. Can someone tell me who it is? Won’t be able to get it out of my head now…
Thank you! All my music is licensed through epidemic sound. Usually small creators that post their music on there.
