Please keep sharing with us, you are in the class of bob binnie, kamon reynolds, canadian bee keeprs I think the most of us that have our 10 to 300 hives will be your target audience. So many junior beek channels. Really looking forward to your clips👍
Hey Jake. Thanks for the video! Running 500 colonies in Piedmont (central) NC. I enjoy following along with what you're doing and your thought process behind your decisions. Keep it coming!
I am a novice beekeeper but hoping to create a full operation in the next 10 years. I would love to see more "long" videos with more information like this! Keep up the great work. Glad I found you.
First year bee keeper here. Got interested in bees this year and purchased a nuc. No intentions of becoming a commercial operator, just a small time newbie. Your videos are great and I am learning from you. Keep up the good work and keep teaching so we can learn. I look forward to your videos
First time watching and really enjoyed. Only have 18 hive but with my beekeeping friend we manage about 30 hives together. I’m always wanting to learn other techniques that may help grow our hives and make good honey. Will continue to watch so please continue to inspire. Thanks
The more information the better. Thabks for creating content like this. The commercial aspects of this are completely fascinating. You could make content about sharpening pencils for balancing the books and I'd watch it if it somehow helped me improve.
Thanks for the deets on “the shake”! Very helpful. First year keeper after 5 years of reading and watching to get ready. Four hives from three swarms with goal of 10 going into winter, 40 next winter, 80 and so on. Will top out around 160-200 but very interested in commercial practices/workflows/economics.
Awesome! Yes, applying systems of operations larger than us to ours is something I love to do. It either creates room for growth or room for more free time lol.
Commercial beekeeper here in Ontario Canada. I love seeing the management in different areas and seeing if there's something that can be adopted into my operation.
I’m 28 and manage 20k colonies. I really enjoy seeing beekeeping in different parts of the states. Keep it up! Would like to see a follow up video of how bee informed affects your decisions moving forward for IPM.
Love your videos. I'm in my second year & up to 8 colonies. It's nice to get info related to my area since beekeeping is so dependent on seasons/climate. I'm in east Houston. I see your products at HEB.
Hi Jake! Been a sideliner for 25 years, took over a retiring commercial beekeeper in my area. Bought 204 hives from Texas in April, after splits near 400 colonies at the moment. Great video! Sample sample sample, you have to know your mite loads and take care of the situation. More info the better my friend! Keep it up!
150 colonies sideliner . Like more in-depth video on the app exactly witch would be best for daily records and tracking pest and queens ect . Like to set up my tablet to take on yard trips .
I am a small sideliner with about 30 colonies. I like your focus on science and I enjoy the videos where you go in depth with your management strategies/techniques. I think hobbyists and small commercial outfits have a lot to learn from large commercial beekeepers. What is your mite strategy when your samples are showing lots of 0's but a few 4's here and there? Are you treating those 4's or chalking that up to a colony with less hygienic behavior that you treat later?
Unless they are bombs, i let them be outliers. They either adapt to deal with it better or the genetics die out of the operation. (Like if I had 0,1,0,1,10) if the numbers are trending high obviously we would just treat everything, including the few 0s and 1s if there were any.
Hello Jake I am a LONG TIME Bee keeper. A video that I think I have say very very little on an it is what do you look for in picking a new bee yard . I know it take me a long time (seasons) because I like seeing how an what it has year round an who all iS in the surrounding areas an what it has to offer year round. Just a thought. THANKS
Great stuff, 3000 colonies is no simple task. I'm working on building up a business with the bees. My wife and I are up to 15 colonies so far after two years. We're hoping to build a decent size sideliner operation with about 3 maybe 400 colonies. I'll keep an eye on your channel in future 🤠
It's 442 pm eastern time. In georgia. Like ur videos and want to see more. Am a 57 yo hobbyist and I have the question I've never seen answered on you tube is how do you know when honey flow begins?
Knowing your forage is step 1. - what the bees have access to and when it blooms. When they get on a heavy flow the nectar will shake out of the frame like water!
Have you ever washed the mites more than once? If you have 4 mites, dump out and wash again until you dont get and mites. Also some say dishsoap works better, i think it does after trying it
There are all sorts of studies out there. I use high proof alcohol (like 90% iso) so the mites detach on the first wash. I don’t like the bubbles from dish soap. I tried it when alcohol was hard to come by in 2020.
I am a sideliner going to 300 hives then reevaluate I have supers with escape boards on but there are new supers on because the flow is still on. I am still in a hard learning curve but I don't loose many hives. I am not saying I have it down but somehow I don't have heavy varroa pressure. I have been told that's because there are not many beekeepers close to me. we will see if it continues.
Could be! Mite drift is real. If you have a good management strategy though, there will be no pressure. It’s been a while since I’ve seen alarming numbers in our bees.
I’m on the edge of hobbyist and sideliner, thought of going C, I am stealing your ammo can idea, I use a cork, but I’ve had a lid pop open between yards. Visions of Smoky Bear Liking the vids, couple, the audio was weak, (phone recording?)
Yeah, running around with a lit smoker is definitely frowned upon in some states… but in Texas, no prob most of the time. Playing around with different audio options recently. Gotta weigh amount of work vs quality lol. One day we’ll have a camera man out here if the channel does well.
For us, we hope to continue to grow every year. It’s all preference. My dad operated closer to 2000 for several years before I got serious about it. I hope to reach 5 digits in the next 5 years.
As a commercial beekeeper. Why not just put ametras And a sticky paper at the bottom of the hive and after a couple of days, just count the mites, no need to kill the bees.
Hey keep up the great videos! I run 25 over here in Scotland, just a little hobbyist!
Thanks for sharing. Lots to learn here.

Beekeeper and new subscriber here. Just stopping by to learn and see how you do things. I’ve enjoyed all of your videos so far.

Thank you! I try not to fluff things
I am 50. 13 hives, 5 years. Still learning - yes always tell us what you are doing and why we want to learn more!
More great stuff Jake. Keep it up your work will help add to the pool of learning for us all.

I totally will at some point. Right now I think there is only one other beekeeper in the country using the app I’m using. Still very new.
When you do a treatment on the Bees 🐝 show us and explain your treatment Thanks Enjoy watching you work 😊

5th year hobbyist. Love bees.
How were your other mite counts? What is your threshold before treatment?
Mostly 1s and 0s! I am typically unhappy with anything over 1% (on average). Over 3% trending and we're dropping what we're doing to treat.
Not at all haha! 400 is a commitment too.

Will the bees stop using my sugar syrup when the flow starts? I have heard this
Yes, but ideally you should stop feeding before the flow starts so you don’t end up with sugar in your honey.
Great job Jake 🐝🐝 i make sample to 20% from my hives
The more the better. That’s a great strategy.
Beekeeper here. Pulling my supers in 2 weeks
Can’t wait!
Great stuf Jake. Dont like distance camera shot. Majbe put camera closer so we can see bees. Kep good work. 😉
Thanks! Come be my cameraman! Lol
@@beekeeperjake You doing it 100 time better than me. Yust like to see bees. 😁😁😉 Greetings from Bosnia 🍯🍯🌞

I'm a sideliner (60 hives) looking for ways to stream line my operation and grow a little up to (100).
Nice! Thanks for watching!
I'm curious to say the least, is 3000 colonies the magic # or is there a cap?
For us, we hope to continue to grow every year. It’s all preference. My dad operated closer to 2000 for several years before I got serious about it. I hope to reach 5 digits in the next 5 years.
I run around 1000 colonies and have been looking for a channel to watch that was more commercial..... 😊
Awesome! Where?
Aspiring beekeeper here
What the URL for the Bee Informed app?
Unfortunately BIP is no longer :(
3 rd year with bees
