To those interested: buy the kit. The RTR has crap electronics and a radio much worse than a diy arduino. You’ll need your typical electronics to finish it. Although it is 100% a bruiser clone, it comes with half the assembly done for you. You can use a bruiser manual for disassembly and it’s almost exactly the same, only some minor changes to the transmission. You’ll want to move your steering servo to the front, and mount your shifting servo as close to the transmission as you can get. It takes a minimum 10kg servo where 15kg is preferred. You’ll also want to buy a bearing kit and a hardware kit. After those simple mods this thing is good for a lifetime. I have mine running a 12t titan 550 with a 70a Bluetooth esc and a flysky i6x(highly recommend the i6x) and a 3s 2200. Don’t expect this to be a good trail runner, or a good fast truck. You buy this one because you like the way it looks. Drivetrain is 100% solid and you’ll never break a gear under normal use. This RC should last 30+ years if you take care of it.

I think the tires are fine, but the diffs need to be stiffer. I will add 500‘000 sct silicone oil to make them stiffer. Yes I was a bit too fast around the corner...
Can somebody tell me the relevance of the Arduino receiver? I'm a drone guy, usually using 7 or 8 channels from my 16ch Tx, but over here in "car world" lol I've seen Arduino receivers mentioned a few times here. What's the purpose for it? I figure it must have something to do with additional channel needed for the transmission gear select, so a 3 channel Tx and Rx with 3 PWM outputs is all you need, right?
So how does this work with three gears I can't just buy a regular controller I have to find a controller to switch the gears I'm basically only going to run it in 3rd gear I'm not a big crawler guy

@@TheDIYGuy999 the only thing that stopped be bashing mine was that the front wheel nut came loose. kind of convenient that the nut stayed inside the wheel. i didn't have to go looking for it in the construction lot.

That's just how I do it. You can also use standard receivers and transmitters with an additional s position switch for the transmission.

You can lock the diffs, at least the rear ones, like in a real Hilux
I know, but I don‘t want to lock them completely, just make them stiffer

The automatic transmission shifting sound is just a simulation. You don't need a real shifting transmission.

Is it normal that the gearbox doesn't shift unless you apply some throttle. Is it even possible to shift it manually by hand?
Of course it's normal. but there were other issues as well

did anything break yet? what grease did you put on the transmission and diffs? i just got mine today.
No, the only problem so far is, that the 2nd gear and the 4WD are not always properly engaging. I will disassemble the gearbox. Have fun with yours!
In the diffs, I'm using extremely thick 500'000 CST silicone grease. This will make them stiffer, but not completely locked.
