For anyone looking at this tut for Blender 4.0, The armature layers have been removed and have been replaced with a more robust system, simply "bone collections" which has an eye to turn certain collections on or off.
Hey, Dikko! I may be a year late to say this, but; This is such an awesome series. I really appreciate you sharing your craft with us. I've followed your walkthroughs and I now have a very robust rig that I can easily use to animate for a game I'm working on. All thanks to you, man! Quick tip: You can actually speed up your renaming of duplicates (like in 6:39) by using the Regular Expressions option in the Find/Replace fields when you Batch Rename (huge asterisk near the fields). Find: \d{3} Replace: 001 This will look for 3 digits and replace them with 001. With regards to their dupes, blender will do its magic and increment them accordingly. Also, F2 is shortcut for rename, which brings the text field right next to your mouse cursor. Trade secrets for lazy pips like me. *wink wink*
It's hard to imagine how fast time flies and we're reaching facial rigging soon. Is there any chance you'll cover rigging for jiggling/waving bones like a scarf, backpack straps, silly spring hats, and the like?
Thanks for another great tutorial, Dikko! I'm hoping there's a video showing how to use the same rig for multiple characters at the end of this series, since I'm working on a project with 5 humanoids.
If you edit a bone's start or endpoint slightly, to make the thumb bend slightly different, should you always reparent with automatic weights? Or a slight tweak still inside that area of mesh, is ok?
Is there a cheat sheet somewhere to troubleshoot solutions for rig issues? I'm trying to find out what I did wrong instead of just making a new rig but I don't know enough to properly troubleshoot
Troubleshooting usually just involves moving part of the rig around and seeing how it breaks. If then it's a specific body part, look through the bones carefully to see you haven accident place the wrong constraint or driver somewhere
I've been working on rigging a character I've made, but whenever I try to move the mesh in pose mode my computer starts to lag horribly. I tried to check 'simplify' but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Any idea what I can do? Been stuck like that for a while now :(
@@Dikko thanks for the reply! The armature is on top of the modifiers stack. I tried to rewind a bit, and the lagging seems to start once I parent the hair, which uses a particle system. Wondering if there's a solution to this for my rather ordinary computer 🤔
@@ayas1325 make sure your fur/hair is above the subdivision surface modifier. Or optimise your hair to require less particles. Personally I avoid realistic hair when I can simply because of the performance hit.
@@Dikko I was looking for a realistic hair. But i have some problems with the particles, they make my pc pretty laggy when i swich to particle edit mode 😐 Also i want to thank you, your "Modeling for Animation" tutorial helped me A LOT. I would like to show you how do you helped me improve my modeling skills but youtube keep deleting my image links 🙄

Now that is something I did not know! Thanks!
An IK finger guide would be insane. Looking forward to the next one.
Man, couldn't thank you enough. I've just discovered your channel and you demistified a lot.
Glad you're finding this stuff useful :)
love it!
Great tutorial and I finished sculpting the head. Well, you just have to persevere and improvise.

I second that.
yes pls!
Thank you for these videos.
My pleasure!

On the hands now... i hope you'll cover the additional parts like the shirt / jacket too.
THANK YOU KEEP IT UP!
2:21 Ha! Looked at it
Yeah i wait for it

Just A little tip for changing bone name
select bone press : F2
This shortcut save lot of time

YUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Great video. Do you plan to make a similar series focused on animation?
That's the plan :)
Hello dikko
please make a tutorial on how to shading character
like littile bit light pass through character
you should do a detailed animation and rigging course if possible
It's on the cards :)
Hey dikko can you do bones that can make body parts bigger at will like in cartoons when character wants to punch his hand would become bigger
Dunno why but while editing my fingers bones on the left, the right side got messed up. Good thing a simple armature symmetrize fixed that issue

Wooooo veiw number 116, miss his old content
There will be plenty of new character and modelling content once im through this :)
Looking forward to face rigging.
Hopefully you'll see something pop up in a couple days :)

Under the simplify button did you reduce the subdivisions to zero? Also make sure your armature modifier is on the top of the stack

Hi Dikko! Can you make a video about hair modeling? It would be a great help
Are you looking for realistic hair or stylised hair? Cos I've already done one on stylised hair.
