Blender 2.8 Hand & Finger Rig with Drivers

  • In this Blender 2.8 video tutorial I show how to create a finger rig with copy rotation constraints so that you can just rotate one bone (the first one) and the other bones will follow.
    After that I add a driver to the first one and use a regular mesh as a controller to make controlling the finger rig more easy.
    I added this the a whole hand rig that you can see n action and that I will add to my Unreal Engine 4 Low Poly FPS Kit.

    If your looking for Finger Rigging this is perfect.
    If your looking for Hand Rigging this is click-bait, there is nothing about hands in this video just the fingers.

    Whenever I try to rig this up at a point that isnt (0, 0, 0) the bones don't rotate properly (they scrunch up behind the driver or I have to move the driver out of the viewport just to see movement). Is there any way to do this at a different value without having this error occur?

    Maybe a good idea to edit the constraints to only the relevant axis, I.E the X in your example. Just in case you want to spread the fingers, like in a peace sign for example.

    Could you do a tutorial on creating the hand model seen at the end of the video? Hand topology is proving difficult and I can't get it quite right.

    • @Jonny-wv2fc
      @Jonny-wv2fc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ik this is 4 years late, and i am by no means qualified to talk about topology, but loop cuts really make a big difference when it comes to bending fingers, joints like the elbow and knee, and other stuff.

      No, I am still developing it, but I have quite a few projects. Currently I am working an a sculpting helper addon and the batch FBX export, then I go back again to Fast Carve.

    When I add the copy rotation modifier and rotate the middle finger bone the tip finger bone just stays at the same angle as the middle bone instead of bending inward like it does in his video. Not sure why but I have followed like 6 tutorials now for this and none of them act the way they do in the video...

    • @zoeydionne6378
      @zoeydionne6378 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured it out. He said nothing about picking armature and then choosing the middle bone under bone...

      Also if the fingers curl up all strangely after you add the driver on the sphere make sure the origin of the cube is at the bottom part of the extended bit.
