    FINALLY! I'm 60+. 3D art is still in its infancy to me. Working from the costumes to the bones is absolutely an alien concept. I've always started drawing with the bones for positioning, implying muscles, then working on the skin and clothing. Thank you for showing me that rigging the animal, or human first CAN be done. I'm crying happy tears right now.😂

    Just something I noticed at the start, when you're doing the bones on each side, you can just make one side and then use the symmeturies operation. This also symmeturieses the constraints and stuff

    • @jakehero4
      @jakehero4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea symmetrize saves a lot of time instead of making it all over again for the other side

      Ooohhh nice!! I always thought that was limited to humanoid rigs!! Will try it 👍

    • @umoyGC
      @umoyGC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      But keep in mind to name all the bones with "*.L" (or "*.R" depends on the side :) ) before symmetrize. This will keep it organized ;) symmetrize will name it with the other side index :)

    • @sakariheinonen5252
      @sakariheinonen5252 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perfect! Bear in mind that symmetrize seems to only work in the x-axis.

    • @SakuraWitch
      @SakuraWitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sakariheinonen5252 its best to think of it like directions
      x axis is left and right
      y axis is forward and backwards
      z axis is up and down
      a reason why the x axis gets mirrored is if you think of human anatomy, its your left and right side that looks the same otherwise it be kinda weird to have a face on your backside or another butt on your front side

  • @LANGIMATION
    @LANGIMATION 2 ปีที่แล้ว +121

    I recommend working on one side and adding _L or .L at the end of each bone or R if you're working on the right side and then when all of them are finished select all, right click and select symmetrize. It'll save you a lot of time.

    One thing you can do that might speed things up even more: instead of axis locking, set up pole targets in the IK Constraint. The IK constraint will arc the IK chain in the direction of the pole target more or less automatically.

    • @Voreoptera
      @Voreoptera 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was thinking the same thing. For the objects he is creating locking constraints makes more sense because there is locked movement in the joints. For other things pole targets would be better then locking. Also if he used pole targets then there may be small movement in unwanted directions.

    Nice workflow! One way to get around rigging completely in animated (hard material) assets is creating static parts with the center coordinate on the location you want it to rotate on. Creating assets in this way in blender made me able to use them directly to create mechanical arms and objects in Unreal attaching and rotating parts, I'm pretty sure it's useable within blender itself in the same way. For sure you'd want to rig any complex moving skeleton, but with things like roboting arms, gears and things that open/close I found it the fastest way to achieve it.

    Awesome tutorial, it's much better and shorter than the previous one :) I can't wait to try doing it myself.

      Thanks so much!!! It felt weird recreating an older tutorial, but I felt so bad that so many got stuck because of my weird workflow in that tutorial

    Great tut, but we need more about driving the actual animation. How do we get remove foot slippage without key frames?

    For batch I just use Bone relative in ctrl+p without deforming or adding weight painting. I also have a python script named parent_to_nearest_bone(armature) in case all else fails.

    Yeah I figured this is actually how one should do it. And not build the armature afterwards. Build it first. Thanks for this. Sometimes confirmation is all what is needed.
