    SIDENOTE: FOR ANYONE WHO HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE "Symmetrize" function, you must have named the bones to be mirrored, with the .L or .R suffixes.

    This is truly a wonderful tutorial. thank you very much! and for those who have or will come across the problem with the automated weights heres my fix since nothing happened when i pressed ctrl+p and tried to move the ik bone in pose mode : before you press ctrl+p to automate weights ,select the arms mesh go into edit mode and select ALL vertices with a (having the vertices mode checked in the upper left corner). then press m and merge by distance.. it removed two vertices in my example that sneaked themselves in. so merge all vertices by distance and then do the step with ctrl+p automate weights . have a nice day

    I've tried 3 times now and up until 13:26 it all works, but when I do the automatic weights, it gets all f***** up. Suddendly the opposite bicep moves when I move an Arm Target and none of the forarms are even connected to the armature. When I switch to weight painting all it shows green on the right hand and the rest of the vertex groups are just blue.
    Has anyone experienced this?

    For some reason I had some kind of issue with the global positioning when using the symmetrise option. The armature would duplicate but not go on the opposite side. If you have this issue then try the following. Select the armature in object mode, under Object, Apply, click Rotation and then try fiddling with those.

    • @WilliamAdelstein

      Another thing to watch out for is that both arms normals both the same, otherwise you might experience differences between the arms. Spent hours looking for the problem, turned out it was the normals were flipped (one red one blue).

    If anyones having problems with parenting the mesh with the arperture, and esp if youre using a higher poly mesh -- it might be a topology problem and fixing it on 1st level of subdivision is much easier, so just check any problematic areas you might have with the higher level mesh and spread out/tidy those areas before subdivision. Easy and it worked for me

    If Symmetrize isn't working, and none of these other fixes have worked, try applying all of your transformations and then symmetrize. It's also possible that it was caused by my orientation being different (using different axes than in the vid). This fixed my issues.

      @Asdafadas Qwe fandas I'm not so experienced, and this is just a guess, but try looking at the names of objects. It has helped me before, to label them like "Arm. L" for the left and "Arm. R" for the right.
      Just a small thing that can be easily overlooked, like applied transforms, global vs local space, axis orientation, etc sometimes it slips my mind.
      Other comments probably have more useful info
      Don't be worried about starting from the beginning again if you can't find the issue, this has saved me more time than not.

  • @bekek7135
    @bekek7135 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm just wondering if anyone had this problem - The 'IK.Arm Target' bone does not rotate the hand as expected. If e.g. I want my wrist to rotate around like it were a helicopter motor, it just doesn't. This makes animating borderline impossible because of the limited movement. The 'Palm' bone, however, seems to be able to rotate fine in the problematic axis, but doesn't move the hand in any other one. Anyone has some ideas? Any way of improving the tutorial skeleton in this regard?

    • @bekek7135
      @bekek7135 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've found the solution - The creator is using a 'Damped Track' modifier on Palm bone to copy the rotation of the Arm Target, but it limits the movements in certain axes, it seems like a huge oversight and I have no idea why he has not mentioned it.
      Instead, I've used the 'Copy Rotation' modifier on the Palm bone, and everything seems to be working as expected.
      Hope it help anyone with the same issue.

    • @SingleSapling
      @SingleSapling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Making the armature the parent of the mesh with automatic weights made everything wrong. Moving the bicep affects the bicep of the wrong arm, moving the wrist bends the whole arm beding the wrist, and using the IK pole makes the entire thing twist. The weight paint tool doesn't help either, as it's still treating both arms as a single large object
