I don't know why this got recommended to me and I know nothing about painting but this was really well done and informative and I feel like I learned something new.
Cheers 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed it!
Quick, get out! You still have time! It's only a matter of a few more videos before you're sucked in and buying models and painting them...please! Heed my warning stranger!
😁
Welcome to Warhammer 40K, you now have a new addiction but fear not, plastic crack will destroy your life much less than actual crack.
Side effects include: Screaming For the Emperor! at random strangers, drinking paint water, and having no money in your bank account while having a mountain of unpainted minis clogging up your storage space! Welcome, brother!
You're putting out tutorials better than some of gw's
Cheers
Absolutely love using Black Templar for my black weapon profiles. It was nice to see in this video!
Tested this tutorial and my first squad member is looking rly awesome, thx for the tips. Chest eagle was the hardest part to highlight, but it managed to get pretty good!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
With my army mostly red, I made haste to watch this content ASAP! :D I Learned a lot, as I do not keep things simple and that makes painting even one model wayyyy too long, and I hope to speed things up significantly after this! Thanks again and Looking forward to the next one : )
Cheers! Glad it helped!
Daaaaaamn that was really fast and so god damn VIBRANT! I love it :3
Cheers! Turned out really well!
really great demo!
Thanks!
Epic, this is like a cheat code! The how to paint colours videos are excellent.
Cheers 👍🏻
Amazing tutorial. Thanks a lot for that.
Glad you found it useful!
Oh wow that Baal red looks amazing and covers so well! I may have to pick up a pot or twenty lol
Works great!
This video is so cool. I want to see Blue Armour. 😊❤️ Best regards from Italy.
Cheers Nico - am struggling to get the blues to work
This red looks nice and bright compare to some of the newer tutorials for blood angels. It’s a nice blend of the newer darker red and the old bright red of the blood angels
If I was to spray my miniature white for a base and then use baal red for the first layer. I think it would look so good. Really helpful video.
Very nice. I'm going to use this the ball red and then I'm going to dry brush with the wild rider red and then if there's too much I'll use the Baal Red again. Oh it's "DEE-cals" fyi
Solid recipe, definitely have to give that Baal red a pickup sometime soon. Have you considered doing an updated Night Lords recipe? Would love to see your take on that.
Cheers - no not really - i could do if I had some spare chaos marines lol
@@ThePaintingCoach Noted! Would love to see some in the future if you get any. Cant wait for your next recipe or project. Keep up the great work. It inspires me!
Cheers Niko!
Great Uplaod
Thanks!
Did you use this straight out the pot or did you use any contrast medium. awesome vid
Cheers - straight out of the pot 👍🏻
Great tutorial. I’m new to 40k and will be following this guide as soon as my modeling tools arrive. What color should I use for close support troops? There’s too many shades of yellow for me to choose.
Imperial Fist yellow if you are doing contrast method, but don't spray black underneath
You rebel, using Pro Acryl ....
😁
@@ThePaintingCoach …and VMAC to… 🤣
Wild west over here!
First of great video! I've been looking into getting this paint myself for BA but your video is the only one so far where the Red has looked "proper" as other videos I have looked at later they have all looked almost pink-ish in comparison to yours, is it because of your thick amount of paint or lighting you reckon?
I want to attain your color but i am afraid i am going to be left with something looking more pink as a result 😅
It's probably because I have slapped it on near from the pot - it's a really nice red over the zenithal. I can confirm that in person the red is the same as you see here
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you for the reply! appreciated :) i will order some 👍
No problem 👍🏻
Looks great! Is blood angle contrast thinner than Baal red? Similar to black legion and black templars?
Hmm no it's darker, and I think Baal ared is single pigment so coverage is much better. The finish is a lot better in Baal Red too
Would love to see how you use "Black Legion" next
I probably won't do a video on that one - as it will be no different to the other black armour tutorials I've done. I use it a lot in these quick videos for things like leather and under armour ribbing etc
@@ThePaintingCoach no problem. Love your videos. I used Black Legion as a base over white scar for power armour just curious if you would put a wash or drybrush it to give it some depth and make it a bit interesting. I do love how black it is though.
Not sure if you need a wash - but check the black armour video I did a couple of weeks ago where I show you how to highlight it
For me as a Blood Angels player this is a brilliant 9.5 out of 10!
You lost half a point for the red helmet w/o a skull or drop of blood on its forehead to make it a Intercessor Sergeant. So this is a Blood Angel Assault Intercessor, a Close Support and that role has yellow helmets.
To me it is somewhat harder to paint the helmets to the right Battlefield role (red = Battleline, yellow = Close Support, blue = Fire Support and gold for Veteran & Command like Lt. & Cpt.) than just paint all the minis in red.
Glad you liked it - easy enough to leave helmets off and paint them with imperial fists yellow if you want an easy yellow helmet
Brilliant video as always, if you feel like trying a Flesh Tearer to round off the red series that would be cool 🤣
Cheers Jono - just use Flesh Tearers red 🤣
@@ThePaintingCoach keeping it simple, I like it 🤣
I'm sure I've got a FT tutorial on the channel 🤔

Hello can you do a vid for speed painting on the green contrast coloris for exemple dark angel please.thanks.
I did bright green last week - I wouldn't recommend dark angels green as the finish isn't great
Man, I need to work on my touch with the spray-priming. I found Baal red WAY too opaque for my janky priming. I got very little shading. I think I just went too heavy with the light. I also did a 3-layer prime with black, grey and white, so maybe that is too much for Baal red? Yours looks super. Fortunately, I am just getting back into painting and don't much care if some of my individual units come out janky. Great video! THX! :)
Glad you liked it - yeah I think you need less of a transition with the Baal Red so whote over black is fine
Hi, ive bought all the paints in this vid because i love your vids and want to emulate, im struggling to get the red to look as smooth as yours? I feel like the contrast paint is very watery and doesnt stick, am i doing something wrong? Is this something that needs applying drying and recoating a few times ? great channel , thanks for all the work you put in!
No it should go on in one coat - make sure you have plenty on your brush. Also make sure you give the pot a really good shake - are you using Baal Red over a zenithal primer coat?
@@ThePaintingCoach Yeah but i did the zenithal primer coat trying to remmember how much you coeverd your model, should have re watched! You seem to really give it a good coating in white scar white primer , that reccomended then ?
Yes to get the vibrancy out of the red, as well as the deep shadows in black
@@ThePaintingCoach Okay i will throw together a new assault intercessor and try again!
Cool
Man I wish I could paint the details like you. My hand‘s just too shaky to do it and I have to clean up a ton
Drybrushing is the way around this problem, a problem I share with you. However, I watched and practiced how Artis Opus dry brushes his edge highlighting.
I’m assuming if you want to go for a darker look priming it with Grey Seer might be a better choice is that correct?
Yes could work - but still over blackto get those deep shadows
Between layers, how long do you let the paint dry before proceeding further?
Normal acrylic dries pretty quickly so no more than a fee minutes - contrast paint is a bit longer deoending on how thick you have put it on
Hi please can u give some brush recommendations for someone on a budget but still retains a shaped tip
Winsor & Newton Series 7 is the premium option, otherwise try Rosemary & Co series 33
@@ThePaintingCoach do u know how much that would be
Not of the top of my head - but Rosemary & Co are a lot cheaper - W&N is about £18 a brush
@@ThePaintingCoach were would u buy these from
W&N link in video description otherwise direct from Rosemary and Co website
Might be a dumb question but do toy use contrast paint straight our of the pot or do you thin it down with water?
Straight out of the pot - you can thin it with contrast medium to make some glazes
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you so much
Can I get the same gradient effect with Grey Seer Spray Rattle Can? (I'm out of the White Scar right now)
Yes might not be as bright on the high points though 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach ok, I’ll be patient and wait for my delivery of White Scar, thanks 😊
I know this is an old video but what do you do to get your contrast to not appear streaky? Every time I use contrasts they turn out streaky.
Depends on the contrast you use - the Baal Red here has a very strong pigment so covers well in one coat - for others you need to use a bigger brush than normal, and keep an eye on the paint as it dries - check out Juan Hidalgo for a contrast expert 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you so much! You're a real one :)
Sorry for the daft question, can someone explain the technique at the start with the spray cans
No problem - basically you spray the model black, and then from above/45 degrees you spray white - this gives you a gradient to paint over, which gives you automatic highlights and shadows - the technique is called zenithal priming
@@ThePaintingCoach do you move the can/model with the white? I didn't think you'd get that kind of coverage from one direction and angle.
Thanks, love the work
Just build up the coverage in passes - you will have to alter the angle of the can but you are essentially painting everything but the underneath - and want the uppernost layers with the msot white coverage
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you so much for the help
No problem
Can you use baal red to paint vehicles? Like with just a brush or airbrush?
Definitely with an airbrush - you might be ok with a normal brush as well but I haven't tried this
@@ThePaintingCoach I’d like to do it with baal red because it’s the only red that I like. Keep seeing people say contrast paint(with a brush) aren’t good for vehicles
The Baal Red used a single pigment, so it covers really well. Generally contrast paint over large flat panels performs poorly because of how it pools. Generally though the single pigment contrasta are pretty good.
You could test it on a cardboard box - spray it with some primer and see how it applies over the surface
@@ThePaintingCoach i didn’t think of that lmao. Really thought about buying part of a rhino just to test it
😉
Sorry mate can you please tell me how to make black templars look better be simply as I’m a beginner. This is because when they are plain aboddon black they can look unfinished
Just paint it over a light undercoat and it will work - check my last few videos where I use it a lot
@@ThePaintingCoach sorry paint aboddon black over a light undercoat or is that not what you meant
No paint black templar over a light undercoat
how do you get into the belt without getting paint all over the surrounding area 😂
Good tip on your brush and not too much paint!
Fastest red ever... and you don't have an Ork.
Ya fukkd it up, ya git!
🤷🏼♂️
just spray paint it red
dude
dude
I've a colour for you: Troll Slayer orange ....
I personally prefer the dip in red pot method, much faster
