    Man! I'm looking all around the Internet for Blood Angels painting tutorials as they are going to be my first army (my Start Collecting box is coming this week). And this is the best looking one I've seen. I don't think I'll be able to get even to 10% of this but it's so inspiring!

    Glad to see someone as capable as you talking warmly about contrast, i have just started medling with it but i see that highlighting with ordinary Citadel really (!) pays off. Thanks for this vid, now to practice the gospel!

    I like how you dare to paint broad strokes as highlights and then continue to build from that. I can definitely see how I can learn from this! I guess I want each layer to look good on its own, but I realize now that's not necessary at all.

    Great video, nice and simple so even I can follow. When using contrast paints, how do you prevent/deal with "tide marks" where the paint has dried unevenly? I've found them great on textured surfaces, but a bit more tricky on flat armour panels. Cheers!

    really well done mate! this video shows the true potential of contrast paints, most of the people i've seen use them were just doing one or two layers of contrast and calling it done, but here you've shown that if you put in a bit of extra time, treat it as a base layer and put on a few extra highlights, you can really make your mini stand out.
    in the end though, i personally won't be using contrast paints. not because i think the product is bad, or cheap, or anything like that, but because i enjoy painting mini's for the painting process itself, and i don't actually play any games so don't have a need to get stuff done quickly, for those who do i can see where these will be the perfect tool though!

    • @SquidmarMiniatures
      @SquidmarMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      totally agree with this, its a perfect first step to save some time. Cuts off maybe 2-3 steps with basing and shading. Not as controlled - but considering the time you save if you don't have an airbrush or wet blending techniques i think its a great addition. I will probably buy a couple as a complement, just as i do with Inks or army painter shades. I don't use them on every mini but for certain projects it will be great.

  • @xekon14
    @xekon14 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Those paints look so easy to use as they kinda automatically give small highlights (especially the black one) which is super useful for someone like me who is not very good at highlighting

    Haven't watched this yet but I also prefer darker reds so I zenithal highlighted vallejo scarlet red over vallejo German red brown primer. I then went over it with Blood Angels Red Contrast and used a red wash but pin shading deeper recesses with agrax. I haven't decided on a highlight yet as I just wanted to get my army at least fully painted to a minimum level.

    If I primed it black instead of white - would my Blood Angel Paint be little bit more darker overall? I would prefer little deeper red (just a little). Also that would solve the black parts problem.

      @SquidmarMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on where on the miniature. That's the thing with contrast, it gets different saturation and brightness depending on how the color flows. So some spots will be close, others won't :)
