I've gotta say, this is probably my favourite Warhammer channel on TH-cam. Your videos are full of character and not so clean-cut which sets them apart from Warhammer TV videos which I find are very informative but get a bit dull after a while. Your videos on the other hand vary between tutorials, reviews and other cool stuff which I find is far more entertaining to watch, particularly your 'eavy metal marines series.
I'd love to see you paint Alpha Legion, just because you see so little of them. Iron Warriors would also be pretty awesome, their armour is god-tier aesthetic.
I'm 2 weeks into the hobby. And I know I'm never gonna reach this level. And that's okay. Because I love the process of painting and I also love seeing this sick ass shit. Your work is incredible
Never say never bro. I used to paint when i was a tee, i had clean but not more than decent resoults. I started painting again 4 y ago and it’s incredible how my paintjob stepped up in quality with the help of practice and the best youtubers (scott being one if them). 4 y ago i’ve never heard about a wash, and the first use really made me think “liquid talent!”, now painting minis is not just a way to kill time when home alone, it’s a true passion, and thanks to these videos i have teachers and peaple to share my hobby with. Good luck for your painting future 🙂
@GeoffreyPeas I haven't touched paint to brush in almost 2 years lol. I'm fishing now. Habits changed. Moved into a different place, not really any "workshop" room. Had a couple kids. Just how I goes sometimes.
Man, I wish I'd found this earlier in my Dark Imperium painting journey. As much as I love the Warhammer TV tutorials and the beautiful Duncan, they just don't go into this level of detail. Really love these vids, great job!
i am a total outsider to the tabletop but a huge fan of the books comics and videogames surround the 40k universe and i have to say that i really love and respect the work and details people put into these, in this scale it is just incredible to me how fine and small some details are.
Great video and great paint job. 'Eavy Metal's recipe for Blood Angels is 50/50 Mephiston & Evil Suns for the basecoat, that's why they're brighter. Over white primer, too, I believe. Shade is Khorne/Black 50/50. Edges are Evil Suns, Troll Slayer, Tau Light Ochre, and Tau/White 50/50.
Found your video's yesterday. Been watching ever since. As stated before by others gonna try and catch one of your streams. Keep these video's coming, they're epic and some of the best around!
Loved the tutorial and how you explain everything step by step, even common errors. Also the video edition and quality is very good, you improved a lot in illumination and camera angles, congrats!
I still struggle with edge highlighting. I've practised lots but still just can't seem to get the hang of the technique. My edges look wobbly and uneven
I still can't get over how professional your videos are. Way better than watching someone hold a damn cell phone cam up and it not focusing and ugh. Awesome mini!
That's not how welding works, you are thinking of soldering/brazing where the base material is not melted. Fun fact: The only difference between soldering and brazing is that soldering is done below 840°F and brazing above 840°F
Another, albeit riskier method of gap filling (if you don't have Milliput or Green Stuff) is by mixing a bit of the Tamiya cement with plastic shavings and mixing it to a paste
Your attention to detail is awesome. The humor is kind of odd which makes it even better. The GW employee I talked to today told me to use Mephiston for the base on blood angels, and not blood angel red which is what I was expecting him to advise.
Sweet! My Know no fear set arrived last week, and I just couldn't decide what chapter to make my Primaris. Finally on Saturday I decided to make them Blood Ravens, and the paint scheme you used looks much closer to BR than BA, bar the bone colored shoulders Ravens use. Thx for the awesome guide.
Yeah i checked out the photos as well, and its why i decided to go for it: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/9/9c/40kSM_ChapterTacBloodRavens6dayt.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170719174209 shows pretty similar colour to what you used . Also i didn't say it before, but great job, that Primaris looks magnificent.
I always build my minis before painting and basing, because i'm worried it will interfere with adhesion. This sub assembly method you demo'd really makes you commit to painting but offers superior ease to get all those nooks and crannies.
New to this channel and I gotta say I really enjoy your channel. Your paintjobs are very nice and the Metalhead aesthetic makes me happy on the inside. Keep it up.
I've never used one of those spray cans, so I can't say with certainty, but I'd hazard a guess that you can get a thinner application of paint with an airbrush than you can a spray can. The flip side of that coin is that a spray can is much faster cause it'll probably cover in 1-2 coats, it also requires less maintenance. If I were painting an army of blood angels, I'd probably opt for the spray can.
Picker up some space marines for the first time the other day and watch the warhammer tutorial on painting blood angels. It was very... Vague so after watch your mine come out a treat
I actually have no interest in Blood Angels, but this came on through autoplay while I was scrubbing stripped minis. I really liked all the information about modelling at the start of the video, and the commentary about various painting techniques as you went along. I wasn't watching much because I was paying attention to getting paint off, so I appreciated the soundtrack in the background as well. And again, I appreciated how the ad placement was handled.
For cleaning miniatures if it’s greasy or has stuff like that, use isopropyl alcohol, it gets rid of oils and dirt and excess stuff and dries really quickly! Edit: also it doesn’t do anything to the primer
Wonderful video and another tremendous model! Your Eavy Metal Ultramarine brought me to your channel but your wealth of hilarious, interesting, helpful and awesome content keeps me here. Keep doing what you do! I'd love to see a Space Wolf
Looks better than the present studio scheme. It reminds me of the mid-90's orange Blood Angels. I thought you made a retro tribute untill I saw the end of the video.
Awesome video and a new sub! :-) Oh, living in the U.K. I can tell you that after slecking with the actual guy from eavy metal who paints blood angels, the base coat is a 50:50 mix of mephiston red and fiery orange. :-D enjoy.
Excellent colour choices like the more muted red and especially the pinks for the purity seal, never been sure on the green seals often seen on red and superb edge highligting. Vallejo plastic putty is an excellent filler for thin seams and a little quicker than miliput. Also for panel lining try gloss coating the minature then using gloss nuln oil/reikland flesh shade (2 or 3 to 1 mix) possibly (used 3-1 with druchii violet on the Soul Drinker I tested it on).
Ouch... Seeing you put on that black over the red base really made me realize I need to thin down my paints... a LOT! But hey, thanks for the learning!
I said it before and I'll say it again; kudos for doing all that edge highlighting 'cause GW/'Eavy Metal sure does love them some edge highlighting. Watching the prep was an interesting touch, as was seeing it done in sub-assemblies. As for the latex glove... well... I mean I guess it was a good thing? Honestly I only ever use one when I'm laying down a coat of primer because otherwise they're kind of superfluous when you're also using cork/wood/painting stands.
Yeah, part of the reason why gloves are nice is because If I get stuff on my hands and go to itch my eyes or eat food with my hands, I dont want to get paint/primer chips all up in by bizness.
This may not be perfect red tone for Blood Angels, but it's pretty much on point for Blood Ravens (DOW games chapter). I painted my Blood Ravens this way, used Zandri dust for shoulderpads and that's pretty much only difference from this scheme.
I really like the result, I love the comicish clean 'eavy metal style and often try to copy it too. One thing about the slightly orange look your mini has at the end: If you try to highlight a bright red any further it always becomes orange or pink. To smooth things out a bit I use slightly brighter highlights than I'd like to and put a couple really thin glazes - really just reddish water - of the base red color over all red parts. Takes away some of the orange without killing the highlights. By now I do this with every color I paint but with red the result is the most obvious.
Tamiya putty or perfect plastic putty are a lot easier to use and fill small gaps well. Miliput is awesome but for big stuff. Perfect plastic putty is easy to clean up with water too.
Another reason people wash mini's is because whenever anything is diecasted or injection molded, the mold has to be coated with some kind of lubricant/release agent. That release agent can disrupt paint adhesion and cause streaks. The problem was worst with the old pewter mini's, but can occur with the plastics as well.
Very correct! There doesn't seem to be much mold release on new plastic kits now-a-days, so people skip this step, but I find it was great for getting rid of all those little fuzzies from sanding, etc.
Blake Presson I'd imagine that even the oil on the model from touching/holding it can cause slight issues so it's surely good to wash the minis no matter what
Blood Angels have squad markings on kneepad and company markings on shoulderpad :) the blue one means 2nd squad. But don't worry, I've done exactly the same mistake with my Dark Angels :D I have to say that your videos are awesome and I really enjoy watching them, truly one of the best channel on TH-cam :) greetings from Poland
Regarding Milliput: I've personally discovered you can manipulate the setting/hardening time by using incrementally smaller or larger amounts of the catalyst part. I discovered this accidentally when I used a little more of the second part than the first part and got hammered when my stuff hardened before I was ready. Better than the other way round I guess, giggety.
I've been watching all of your videos since I subscribed last week, and this is my favorite one yet! You're an inspiration, man. I ordered some Astra Militarium just to get back in the game because if you!
scott: Dont be afraid to go back and fix things Me: NEVAH! everything gets one shot! if I fail, I'll do better on the next mini. As I have no one to please except myself :D I probably would fix more of my "mistakes" if the pantjob held some sort of significance though, I never entered any competition, and I usually want to paint more minis than to have a single perfect mini.
Greetings from Mexico, i really love your videos, those super-clear shoots are awesome, and gotta love the sarcasm, my favorite "painting miniatures" channel. Keep it going!
Great paint job, definitely going to shamelessly copy this for my Primaris Blood Angels, subbed.
same. Knowledge is power, guard it well, brother
18:00 Don't worry about the knee pad. For Blood Angels, knee pad denotes what squad they are in. Great job!
I've gotta say, this is probably my favourite Warhammer channel on TH-cam. Thanks for the good feedback, my friend!
Miniac no problem mate, just speaking the truth!
Literally could not agree more. Solid videos and not overly cheesy style. Also great content. Keep it up!
Demon 117 if there's a cool mini, sure
I don't even play warhammer and I love this channel!
I'd love to see you paint Alpha Legion, just because you see so little of them. Iron Warriors would also be pretty awesome, their armour is god-tier aesthetic.
@@gabrielotoole three headed hydra decals are a beautiful thing
100% agree on the gun barrel.
Cerberusarms oh, hi D
Son Sukcharoen bye!
Miniac wat
It seems that every painter has his own style/methodology. It's really cool

I'm 2 weeks into the hobby. And I know I'm never gonna reach this level.
And that's okay. Because I love the process of painting and I also love seeing this sick ass shit.

There are a few milestones that everyone hits that levels them up hugely - one is a wet pallette; you will get there
Hey how are you getting on with the hobby now?
@GeoffreyPeas I haven't touched paint to brush in almost 2 years lol.
I'm fishing now.
Habits changed. Moved into a different place, not really any "workshop" room. Had a couple kids. Just how I goes sometimes.
@King-ci8sk good to hear you're finding something fun to do though regardless of what it is
Man, I wish I'd found this earlier in my Dark Imperium painting journey. As much as I love the Warhammer TV tutorials and the beautiful Duncan, they just don't go into this level of detail. Really love these vids, great job!
I get anxiety just watching someone edge highlight, let alone doing 3 rounds of it :'(
See a doctor
Charlie Andrews see a therapist
Being a very visual and tactile learner, this helped so much.
Thank you.
i am a total outsider to the tabletop but a huge fan of the books comics and videogames surround the 40k universe and i have to say that i really love and respect the work and details people put into these, in this scale it is just incredible to me how fine and small some details are.
Hey @Miniac , thanks for giving me the courage to shade using a paint instead of a wash/shade. I now love my work on a whole new level.
You deserve so many more subscribers. Best Warhammer modeling/painting tips, advice, and tutorials on youtube by far.
I used to paint in my teens.. I wish to rekindle the flame. You’re guides are insane. Subbed
FYI the colored knee-pad has to be on the right knee. Maybe we should send you an Inquisitor :D
Pille Palle or he can make them Thei - blood ravens
Pille Palle Did someone say “heresy”?!
Sniff sniiiiiiif I smell heresy
Love it that you show prep!
I gave you the Thumbs Up just for the music intro, the logo and the shirt. I wish I can give you another one because of the amazing content
I almost did a spit take when you cut to you saying "I know... TALENT" XD you're so good dude, can't wait for the next video!
Techno Lich haha, thanks!!
Dude this is probably the best guide from A to Z for putting together a marine at a top level. Great work!
Thank you!
Really satasfying with the colors. Just looks satasfying to look at.
Really nice seeing someone do edge highlighting so nicely. Gives me a new idea of what to look for with my work.
Found your video's yesterday. Been watching ever since. As stated before by others gonna try and catch one of your streams. Keep these video's coming, they're epic and some of the best around!
Your prep work is legit, this video is so rich with tricks, I'll do my best to catch your next stream :D
TRICK RICH
Oh he is streaming as well ? i had no idea ! ... i'm in an opposite time zone so i'll probably never get to see it but that's great anyways xD
Yeah I stream 5:00 AM - 7:00 AM CST every weekday.
And what's your timezone exactly ? To see if i can catch it sometimes ^^ ( i'm in France so GMT +1 )
CST, Central Standard Time, UTC -6
I love the warmer days
Loved the tutorial and how you explain everything step by step, even common errors. Also the video edition and quality is very good, you improved a lot in illumination and camera angles, congrats!
Thank you very much for the links for the sanding sticks and glue!
Came across this by chance. Very impressed with the effort you've put in with the slick editing and detailed tutorial. Great job!
Thanks!
That is a great look. I'm digging the more orange-red & the black kneepad/shoulderpad. Also, colossal video. Loving the stop motion bit, tone, etc.
Man, painting sure has changed since I was a kid. It was just Drybrush n Go
Vae_ exactly what I was thinking
I still struggle with edge highlighting. I've practised lots but still just can't seem to get the hang of the technique. My edges look wobbly and uneven
Nice tutorial, I like the close takes.
Dude, so far - it's the best hobby channel out there. Thanks for the great work.
When Scott says sorry for the ads but you have TH-cam premium
I dont it even showed that there would be an ad but it didnt play
I still can't get over how professional your videos are. Way better than watching someone hold a damn cell phone cam up and it not focusing and ugh. Awesome mini!

Beautiful and regal as my Brotherhood should be
Another, albeit riskier method of gap filling (if you don't have Milliput or Green Stuff) is by mixing a bit of the Tamiya cement with plastic shavings and mixing it to a paste
Thanks for sharing this video Scott! I was looking through other BA tutorials and this one is top notch!
Nathan Williams you're welcome!!
Snot green lol. Havn't seen one of those containers since my cousin introduced me to warhammer 40k miniatures about 10 years ago, ahh the nostalgia.
Awesome vid! I would LOVE to see you paint some Infinity models. The details on them are spectacular.
I do have a few laying around here somewhere!
Your attention to detail is awesome. The humor is kind of odd which makes it even better. The GW employee I talked to today told me to use Mephiston for the base on blood angels, and not blood angel red which is what I was expecting him to advise.
great job. Looks incredible and I learned a few things. Thank you for making the video.
Check out the photos before making that decision: imgur.com/a/ZV65K My camera's video is kind of playing funny games with the red color.

The dirt water spilled in the intro always gives me anxiety. Good videos, mate!

New to this channel and I gotta say I really enjoy your channel. Your paintjobs are very nice and the Metalhead aesthetic makes me happy on the inside. Keep it up.
I will never have the patience to do this level of detail.
I know it's not a common chapter, but I would really like to see you do a Hawklords model!
sterling painting skills, great tips. Makes me want to start collecting again.
do it!
BLIND GUARDIAN
\m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/
I was about to say :D I confess I'm not *too* familiar with them, but NIME is probably my favourite album pretty much ever.
i see power metal shirt- i like video im a simple man of simple tastes
Blind *fucking* guardian
Tamiya extra thin cement is the best thing to happen to this hobby
Also do you see any benefit to airbrushing the base layer of mephiston red as opposed to using GW spray can of the same color?
Airbrush "sprays" the color thinner than a typical spraycan. So its harder to overdo it with color
Squadron putty also works for small gaps like that. No mixing think wood filler for models.
Washing helps keep the primer to the minis and helps keep paint from chipping from the mini.
Picker up some space marines for the first time the other day and watch the warhammer tutorial on painting blood angels. It was very... Vague so after watch your mine come out a treat
I actually have no interest in Blood Angels, but this came on through autoplay while I was scrubbing stripped minis. PoppyAppletree much love, friend
For cleaning miniatures if it’s greasy or has stuff like that, use isopropyl alcohol, it gets rid of oils and dirt and excess stuff and dries really quickly!

Thanks for the kind words!
Turned out great! Also love the success evaluation part.
That Blind Guardian shirt sure brought on some nostalgia!
Very clean man! The angel would be proud
the blue kneepad is just a squad marking. black or yellow is just as valid.
forget that! your color looks way better then box art. reminds me of the classic blood angel color.
Jesus, I never realized you were down with Blind Guardian. Damn good choice sir! The Bard's Song helped me through one of my Descent minis.
Watching all these etch highlights is the most stressful thing ever!
2:40 didnt click on this video to get a laugh, but i got many. i was sitter here laughing to myself through half the video. awesome vid by the way.
Looks better than the present studio scheme. It reminds me of the mid-90's orange Blood Angels. I thought you made a retro tribute untill I saw the end of the video.
Nope, I'm just bad at guessing schemes!
Thanks. Very nice close-ups.. Good subject . Maybe revisit the blue.. it is classic after all .
Awesome video and a new sub! :-) Oh, living in the U.K. I can tell you that after slecking with the actual guy from eavy metal who paints blood angels, the base coat is a 50:50 mix of mephiston red and fiery orange. :-D enjoy.
So I am not insane with sanding that upper part of bolt rifle and also same way as you. Great job :)
That is a mean looking cat.
Roger Smallman thanks for the suggestions!
Song at 12:20 is Darker Thoughts by Jingle Punks or Silent Partner. If anyone is interested :)
Totally agree on the gun barrel! Maybe we could see some Space Wolves next?
Ouch... Seeing you put on that black over the red base really made me realize I need to thin down my paints... a LOT! But hey, thanks for the learning!
Aaron Fruman :)
If you use Tamiya Orange cap cement you can squeeze chest halves together and "fill" the seam. Of course the easy builds don't need it.
OMFG! i love the finish on theses models. keep making more vid's bro!
amazing ! saying hello from GMT +7 ! i just start this hobby n this helps alot, thank u man ! respect !
Great job man, loving the paint tutorial and final product. You're a character dude, you got yourself a new sub
This may not be perfect red tone for Blood Angels, but it's pretty much on point for Blood Ravens (DOW games chapter).
I painted my Blood Ravens this way, used Zandri dust for shoulderpads and that's pretty much only difference from this scheme.
Looking really great
Dude great work. Now when can I come sit down with you and absorb all your painting knowledge. Knowledges is power!!!
Abbadon Black and then a kazillion times darker....I´m impressed !

thanks dude... this video is basicaly homework for me. i hope that with a bit of close study and A LOT of practice i can become a much better painter.
For those wondering, Dheneb Stone equivalent is Rakarth Flesh.
Love the colour on that guy. He looks great.
Tamiya putty or perfect plastic putty are a lot easier to use and fill small gaps well. Miliput is awesome but for big stuff. Perfect plastic putty is easy to clean up with water too.
