  • The video review is going to go into more detail than this (sorry that it's 15 minutes) so I'd recommend starting out there.
    Starting out with the unboxing, I didn't mention this in the review, but the packaging was expert. It all fit into a reasonably sized box with all the pieces neatly laid out in cut out spots. There is plenty of packing, so everything stays in really good condition. The majority of this is largely put together and, even if this isn't your first time putting a printer together, it's really just a handful of bolts that get screwed into place. The included instructions aren't really even needed... the bottom piece of the base has a good visual instruction set, but definitely use the instructions if needed.
    The main reasons to go with the Pro over the original is for the silent 1.1.5 mainboard (uses silent TMC2208 drivers), blue Capricorn (I believe it's using that brand - tighter diameter so there is less wiggle room of the filament for more consistent results), stiffer yellow springs (makes it so your print surface needs to be leveled less and reduces vibrations), and the red metal extruder (compared to the plastic on the regular Ender 5, this puts greater tension on the filament again... more consistent results). This is really a great start for a first time printer because these are largely the upgrades that most people end up doing anyway. Might as well just let the manufacturer do it and reduce any mistakes that could possibly happen.
    Overall, this is a great great great first printer or second or third or fourth. I barely needed to do anything out of the box and it's printing beautifully. I'm really excited to add this to my printer roster and can't wait to see how far I can push it! Thanks for reading and watching!

    Thanks so much for this comparison! I have an old ancient CR7 (yeah, the little one) which is already loud enough with steppers and one fan, plus little dampener feet. I was IMMEDIATELY in love with the silent board feature shown here cause it sits right next to my desk and can get annoying. I recently pulled the trigger to get a 5 Pro and it's arriving on Saturday! So excited to hear nothing! 😅 This video played a good part in my decision cause all the other reviews are from people who had the 5 Pro sent to them which I can never trust cause you KNOW those printers were handpicked and made sure to be PERFECT and probably won't be what most experience. Also like you said I was originally gonna get the regular 5, but figured I was gonna spend the difference on upgrades so I just tossed in the extra $50 for the Pro. Thanks again man! 🙂👍

      Completly agree. In so many sectors, noise level is ignored but to me essential, also the top metric after product end result quality (cars: I went electric and my diesel feels like a steam train, computer, appliances, etc...).

    I’m very new to 3D printing and plan on doing a good bit soon as I get my first printer. I have been trying to decide if I should get the 5 or the 5 Pro for the last 24 hours and no one I asked knew the differences between each machine (most of the people, I talked to have some variant of the Ender 3). Trying to find someone comparing the 5 to the 5 Pro has been harder than I expected but I’m really glad I decided to watch this video because now I know I’m definitely getting the 5 Pro. Thank you for posting this. You earned my subscription.
    Side note, maybe you should consider changing the title of this video to something like Ender 5 vs Ender 5 Pro” it may get you more views and honestly you deserve more attention for this video.

    I've done a lot of work with my 600x900 Chinese laser cutter, at 10 times the cost, which has a REALLY lousy operating system that is an unreachable black box. I prefer not to make the same mistake with 3D printing, which is why I've waited so long to get one (living in South Africa BTW - support is non-existent for a lot of stuff).

      ABS prints just grand if your settings are right and you have your printer in an enclosure. Otherwise, expect the first layers to start to peel up with ambient temperature changes.
      Yeah, mine came like that. There are varying versions of the Ender 5 and some have it, some don’t, some have a different Z lead screw... I genuinely have no idea how to tell you what you’re going to get. Creality keeps making minor alterations.

    Hey, question, I'm new to 3d printing so go easy on me. I'm getting the 5 pro but can't find any free slicers out there that have an Ender 5 pro profile. I was wondering if you have any recommend slicers or if there are any good profiles out there.

    • @plasticmakesperfect5863
      @plasticmakesperfect5863  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey no worries! We all start somewhere. There are a few free slicers out there, but I personally prefer Cura from Ultimaker. I've heard others have had great success with the Prusa slicer, but I haven't spent enough time with it to really know the differences. The last few version of Cura have had an Ender 5 profile. I just checked mine (version 4.8.0) and it's there. They have it under the non-networked printers > Custom > Creality > Ender 5. There should effectively be no difference between a standard and pro model when it comes to the slicer. Hope that helps!

      Hey friend! Another friend just asked me the same question so for the sake of efficiency, I’m just going to paste what I said to them here. Cheers!
      ---------------
      Hey friend! I’ll give you my personal opinion, but I just recommend you do your research and really consider what needs you have compared to the needs these printers can offer.
      So with that caveat, my personal opinion is that I would still go with the Ender 5 Pro. Like I said in my review, it’s all about the rigidity for me. The touch screen is a gimmick in comparison (personal opinion) to the overall stability of consistency of the 5 pro. I’ve had both and I can say that I had two 5s and a 3v2 and uh… I still own two 5s. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      Again, do your research and go with what’s right for you. I just really appreciate that model sway is a non-issue on the 5.

      It’s possible that your bed knobs may have been compressed more than mine from the factory. You may need to do a more typical bed-leveling with those knobs to get your nozzle properly trammed. Torn between the pro and the plus. Not sure if I need the added print space. Price isn't an issue but don't want to have a big bulky machine if it's not worth it.

    • @plasticmakesperfect5863
      @plasticmakesperfect5863  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Drawdy sorry for the slow reply! The Plus does have benefits that the Pro doesn’t, such as a 32-bit main board, dual Z screws, a BLTouch, a touch screen, and obviously the bigger build surface. Two of my buddies have one and they’re huge! I mean, he basically had his arms as wide as possible to carry it in.
      Honestly, it’s really dependent on what you want to do with the machine. For my needs, the Pro is sufficient in size plus I love to tinker so my pro is largely a Plus already, minus the build size. I’ve heard there are some issues with the Plus, but in the year or so my buddy has one he hasn’t had any issues so your mileage may vary.
      Hopefully that helps you out some, but the Ender 6 is also either around the corner or out now. That one uses CoreXY kinematics so you can print much faster and it’s more stable.

    I'm going to get basic Ender 5 and do an immediate upgrade to a direct drive, decent hot end, and an SKR main board (I have electronics experience so I'm not worried about doing that). I'll end up with a better printer than the Pro for not much difference in cost. Sure, I may want something with a larger bed down the line, but I figure this will get me through learning and be able to print a lot of useful items.

    • @plasticmakesperfect5863
      @plasticmakesperfect5863  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is essentially what I did with my two standard Ender 5 printers. The I went with a BMG style extruder using direct drive on a TriangleLab Dragon V6 style all-metal hot end. I did a full rebuild of my Sunlu S8 to include an SKR v1.3 swap with TMC2208 stepper motors. Worth it for sure. That is definitely a viable path for some, but others may feel more comfortable just getting a lot of these stings straight out of the box.

      @@plasticmakesperfect5863 I totally understand that. If I was strictly focused on out of box to first print with no fuss or assembly, I'd just get an Elegoo Mars or similar. One Z-motor makes this frame obsolete, for you to get the full potential of the box frame your bed needs to be supported by at least two sides, I would suggest the Ender 5+ as it already has the BL-touch, 2x Z-screws and motors

      @plasticmakesperfect5863  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know that I’d agree that it makes it obsolete, but it does pale in comparison to the 5+, I’ll agree with that. A quick print of super struts largely fixes the issue (in my experience) and still leaves the Pro as a solid option. Thanks for your comment!

    • @plasticmakesperfect5863

      I'm still in love with this printer. For a consumer grade one, this is still solid for this price point. I have three Ender 5s in total and they are my work horse machines. I converted two to direct drive and made other modifications, but I leave the pro stock because it's known-good for me and just has been great in general.
      I think that my only complaint, and it's absolutely personal opinion, is that I wish I had a bigger print surface. I know I can go to the 5+, but I think I'm just getting into other things that require a larger print area so I may actually end up buying a 5+ as well in the near future.

    Thank you for this review, really appreciated! I'm going to be honest here, I am currently thinking about buying my first 3D printer and before I saw this video, I was 95% sure about buying the Prusa Mini+.
    After this review, that percentage is now 50%-50%... I would probably buy both of them, if I could, because they both seem doin' a very good job. I see that the Ender doesn't have an auto-levelling bed as the Prusa has, but that manual levelling didn't seem difficult at all. All Prusa's have their Prusa Slicing Software, which seems to come very handy on adjusting printing settings based on Default/Custom Profiles that can be used as well as regarding the printing materials used on each print.
    Does the Ender have something similar to this?
    On the other hand, this Ender seems much more robust and reliable, just by looking at its construction architecture and used materials. I loved that kinetics thing about the bed just moving along the Z axis (in the Prusa Mini+ it does move on XY axis instead).
    I'm really undecided here... :).

    • @plasticmakesperfect5863
      @plasticmakesperfect5863  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leveling isn’t super difficult, especially if you’ve been through the process a few times. You can definitely add a BLTouch to an Ender 5 to allow for auto bed leveling. The other thing you’ll lose by going with the Prusa Mini is build space. The Ender 5 has a good amount more in all directions.
      Ultimately though, you’ll need to really consider what you’re going to be printing and go from there.

      So with that caveat, my personal opinion is that I would still go with the Ender 5 Pro. Like I said in my review, it’s all about the rigidity for me. The touch screen is a gimmick in comparison (personal opinion) to the overall stability and consistency of the 5 pro. I’ve had both and I can say that I had two 5s and a 3v2 and uh… I still own two 5s. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      Again, do your research and go with what’s right for you. I just really appreciate that model sway is a non-issue on the 5.

      Vin it’s a way of leveling the nozzle to the bed that professional and industrial machinists use on big CNC machines. Basically you don’t want the nozzle jammed to the bed because then the plastic can’t come out. And u don’t want it too high or the plastic won’t adhere to the bed. So he is saying to get the nozzle so close as to only be able to slide a piece of paper between the nozzle and bed with just a tad of friction. Do this for all 4 corners. And your bed will be level and set at the right distance for the printer to operate
