    I've said it before and I'll say it again. The seagull is THE car that I want to buy next, I don't need anything bigger. I've got an MG4 and it's great so I'm more likely to buy another one of those than buy a Dolphin which is the same size but not as good or an ATTO 3 which is nice but too big.

      USA here, I have Chevy Spark EV version of your car, sadly it is currently at the dealer as the battery pack is showing signs of failure. I would purchase the BYD if it were available here, it has twice the range of the Spark EV and is essentially the same size, the blade batteries are also interesting. These small/city size EVs are perfect as the mass market really isn’t looking for an $80k plus EV.

    Why aren't we getting this EV in Australia and more affordable cheap small EVs like this? This could replace a lot of 2nd cars in households that are desperate to get into EVs. A budget version of the Fiat 500e at a bargain price. Similar dimensions, weight, battery size, range etc

    No car should be charged with superficially high price like what the Americans are paying now. Chinese companies are more consumer oriented and more humanistic approach to consumers. Whereas the American companies are typical capitalistic and profit driven mentality at the expense and misery of consumers. It should be the choice of consumers what cars they would like to purchase than dictated and imposed by the government what car should buy and what car should not buy. The Seagull is available where I live, but I hadn't even realized there were different trims/batteries. Good to know. I'll have to ask again, but I think locally it was the 405km (stated) range, but nice to hear that that's the model with the liquid cooling. What's crazy is that it's 20KUSD here... Still, the 405km range is more likely close to 320km in real life driving conditions. Thing is, I wouldn't use it for daily driving, more like the odd weekend getaway, so it's hard to justify either the Seagull (even less so the Dolphin or newer e2) vs a cheap 1000cc Toyota or something that costs the same price. I might take it for a test drive to see though. Plus, the local EV network is horrendous, but I assume it'll only get better. I really want an EV, but it's hard to find a good one for a decent price (my research seems to indicate BYD is better than say, Wuling).

    In amman we see a ton of VW I4 and I6. Some have the standard german (english) lettering. Others which are cheaper have chinese all over the back. It seems the chinese made ones don't work nearly as well and VW will not repair under warranty, or maybe at all? I know people at the German Embassy who say owners of the chinese ones are always contacting demanding repairs. How old can any of these be? 3 years tops?

    My wife and I are in our 60's, I'm just recently a pensioner!
    We routinely only do low mileage per annum of about 3K miles.
    Given this would it be so necessary to have the liquid cooled battery version or would the so called air cooled version still see us out for as many years as we would be capable of driving?
    Thanks for posting.

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Barry, the heat is the main issue. If you live in a climate such as the UK and you don't routinely run the battery to zero, and don't park it at 100% all the time (although with LFP chemistry it should really cause issues with the chemistry), then you may just be fine with the cheaper ones, but for about one or two thousand pounds more you can get the larger battery with full proper cooling, so its definitely worth getting that one. In the UK, it's hit and miss with how the batteries have coped over ten years on the Nissan Leaf. Some are great and others are not. This is almost entirely down to thermal management. So, it depends on where you live as to whether it will have a good chance or not. Thanks for getting in touch and please feel free to let me know if you have concerns or thoughts.

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm still blown away by this whole internet thing. Having people in Louisiana watching me rant on about things is crazy :) I recently did a poll, and 80% of people agree with us, it should be default on any car to have full proper thermal protection. Of course, LFP chemistry won't likely explode on you or have a thermal run away situation, but it can still degrade because of the heat. Thanks for the comment :)

    Hi,
    I am willing to buy a Seagull but
    I saw a video saying that the battery of Seagull is one piece, and if one or more of its cells is damaged there is no way to change a cell and you should change the whole battery and it is expensive, is that true? or is it possible to make maintenance and change the particular cell instead of the whole battery? if some knows about this issue and can tell me if is it possible to make maintenance to the battery or no.

      you have full warranty from byd, no worries.

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there, this is not true. The BYD Seagull battery is made from individual cells, all placed into a metal case. The case is bolted to the car underneath. But it's quite a routine thing nowadays to open them up and replace cells. This is going to be more ordinary on a car such as the Seagull because it is going to be a common car because it's made for the 'mass market' and not the 'niche market'.

    I've watched a lot of TH-cam videos about the Seagull now, but not a single one mentions anything about regen braking and one-pedal driving, an absolute must for me -- just as true, Tesla-style OTA updates.
    I guess the motor in the Seagull is too small to handle proper regen braking, so it's back to the old changing brakes every other year, just like in the bad old ICE age? Sad, considering that a 250 kW motor costs just a few dollars more than a 55 kW ditto to produce.
