Just a few notes: The Seal Performance will do 0-100 in 3.8 (yes under 3.9) every day of the week so I don't know what you did wrong. The only MG with a LFP battery is the base (best buy too) and the only one you can charge to 100% like the BYD. So basically you get the same usable KW as the next model up. The Seal(s) are far nicer finished inside than any of the MGs. If you drive a Seal you'll want to own one. Most reviewers do not drive one long enough to work out all the tricks to making it almost perfect (for the money) and a car you just want to drive. Pro tip: Some Aussie power plans now offer 3 hours per day all you can eat free power. This means 700km/week of free driving.

The Seal Performance made my head spin when I launched it during a test drive 🤣 First time I was in a car with such acceleration and I loved it. Just a shame the footwell is so high compared to the seating position. I wouldn't want to drive it for longer trips. The Atto 3 on the other hand... 😍

What a nonsensical review here. Bad headline too. I've driven a MG ZS EV Long range Luxury edition since december 2021 and I have to say: All lies. Best car I've ever driven, by far, and I've driven many rentals and lease-cars and whatnot. This review is simply incorrect. We barely have to charge the thing with its 69.9 kWh battery. What pleases me most about this car is that we can enter and leave the seats without needing to squeeze anything, it's so roomy and silent, it is fast too, at stoplights here in NL we pass by all others, I really don't see a flaw with it, aside from perhaps some efficiency because it is a little heavier and less streamlined. But here in NL we're not allowed to drive faster than 120 km/h anyway, mostly even 100 km/h max, so all speeds beyond that are useless.

All the others even the Dolphin feel incredibly small inside. The MG4 is like sitting in a pregnant skateboard! I'm more of a sedan guy, so I tend to gravitate towardst the BYD Seal. In Aussie, the base Dynamic starts at 49,888 which is pretty compelling. It is heavy though, near 2 tonnes, which makes something like the Ora (Funky Cat) very interesting for weighing "only" 1500kg. That's positively feather-weight for an EV.
Overall I agree with the list, but might put the Seal Premium at the top of the list.

Seal and Model 3 have near identical dimensions also.
The higher range Seal does go well over 2 tonnes, and is therefore much heavier than the Model 3 LR and Performance

It would be top of my list too, but the low ground clearance might be a deal killer for me. A driveway at work already catches the front of my Leaf, Seal would be painful there. But the Premium looks the goods, arguably a better deal than the Tesla especially at the price.

All the batteries are fine. BYD batteries go in the Berlin made Tesla's. GWM have had their own battery subsidiary for decades, who do a lot of research. MG have great batteries too it seems. Only one's I've ever heard could be dodgy were LG Chem batteries (e.g. in the GM Volt). There have been 6 EV fires in Australia.... 2 were arson, 3 were when the house caught fire first, and one was just a battery pack left out in the rain. ICE are 20x more likely to catch fire.

@@justice4g Combustion cars can and do burn while off, to the point that some BMW models had advice from BMW to not park them in your garage. Yes, EVs are harder to put out if the main battery goes into runaway, but they burn a whole lot less. Also you've seen loads of EV fires? Do you mean youtube videos, or actually seen? Cause there have been really very few EV fires. I've seen one (hybrid), but it was arson. There are loads of cheap ebike/scotter etc battery fires as they are often not standards compliant and don't have proper management but that doesn't equate to EVs.

I used to think like you until my own parents in law’s 6 month new Subaru SUV had an electric system issue which resulted in frying and smoking and the car was totalled. They told me that luckily the car was not parked in the garage or near anything that would catch fire easily. I have driven the MG ZS EV Mk1 and the basic Ora and they are both excellent cars. As you comment, the Ora could do with a bigger boot. The range of both is perfectly adequate for city cars. The second-hand MG ZS EV Mk1s are very good value. More advanced cars are coming on to the market but these cars still do their job and do it well. It is true the MG ZS EV is built on a multi-setup platform which can be used for petrol, plug in hybrid or BEV but it is still pretty efficient and hopefully the common platform will make it easier to obtain the parts that are common to the ZS EVs and the ZS petrol cars. Both the Mk1 and the Ora have plenty of power compared to smelly cars.

MG stands for Morris Garages, the name chosen by MG's founder Cecil Kimber as a show of respect for his then boss, William Morris. Cecil's vision to produce world-class sports cars quickly became a reality, and by the 1930s, MG cars were winning races across Britain and Europe and is now owned by SAIC and has its headquarters in the United Kingdom, with production in China, Thailand (since 2016), and India (since 2019) but the primary design was based at the Longbridge, Birmingham headquarters. The studio is based in a newly renovated building in the heart of London on Marylebone Road. “A completely new product on the electric car scene. A fresh, elegant and refined model that combines practicality and style”. This is how Oleg Son, Chief Designer of MG, describes the MG4, the latest zero-emission model presented by the Chinese. Volvo, polestar and Lotus are also now owned by chinese automakers. For the uninitiated, an NMC - Nickle Manganese Cobalt battery - should only be charged to 80% not 100% like the battery in an Atto 3 for instance and has the potential to be a fire risk. There have been many EV fires with this battery chemistry and when I ordered my Atto 3 two years ago, it was the first thing I checked to make sure it wasn't an NMC traction battery. MG4 is the most fun to drive, can go around a marked 45km corner at 80km plus, fully planted and controlled 50/50 weight and rear wheel drive. Everyone goes on about battery range when really the issue is bladder range, and mine is about 2 hours, also most highway codes recommend 15 min break every 2 hrs.

On the MG site I just looked at they say you can buy a new MG car (petrol no doublt) for 19,990AUD. I couldn't find an electric car there under 42,000AUD. Maybe EVs are loaded with too much computer stuff and display screens etc making them too expensive for people to buy. The price difference could buy years worth of petrol. Not hard to work out why the percentage of new EVs been sold is less than 10%.

    • @stormjuice

3- if the head lights is on and you lock the car the lights will still on. ( I believe we figured it out back on 90’s but this smart car don’t know)
4- The system doesn’t save. To drive using one pedal mode and eco. I do need this every time. (4 slow steps to get there)
5- Car Play keeps disconnecting even with genuine cable
6- If the car is charging and I lock it when I do unlocked makes a loud beep and wake up everyone around.

easy... firstly, it's not really price you need to think about... it's VALUE FOR MONEY. And then you have to think about your own use case.... you might need an SUV style (so Atto3, Kona, E-Niro or Model Y are your best choices, depending on your budget and what they offer), or a hatchback (so a base Ora is the best value, but only if you don't need a bigger boot).
I think the European marques are the worst value for money (Merc, BMW mainly). They are also amongst the most inefficient. Efficiency is KING for EV's. Check out the EV Database and filter for efficiency.
I have a rule though.... if whatever EV you are looking at, is within $10k of a Tesla.... get the Tesla.
