    As an Indonesian, I think I would choose BYD over Tesla, you can buy BYD Seal here half the price of the basic Tesla model 3. Tesla infrastructure and support is still considered too remote to beat other competitors like Hyundai or Wuling in terms of infrastructure and support (in fact, almost all electric cars I've seen is Hyundai or Wuling because it is cheap especially Wuling here smashed the electric car market). Tesla is still considered as a luxury car though.

    The BYD Seal has just landed on Indonesian shores this week and it already beat Tesla due to several factors:
    • Factory support - BYD is fully factory-supported and partnered with a well-known dealership network. On the other hand, Tesla doesn't have full factory support over here since it's sold through a general importer.

      as I understand it depends a bit how you park your car, when "Auto shift from Park" is activated, the Model 3 is designed to automatically select drive mode or reverse mode. That is, if there is a wall, for example, in front of your car, the car will automatically drive back when you step on the accelerator and vice versa when you have an obstacle behind.
      The touch screen will show the selected driving mode when the driver's door is closed and the seat belt is fastened. A friend told me about it.

Getting back into the ID4 is a letdown, plus having to always flip the lever twice just to get it into B for Regen, annoying. In the '24 M3 it looks like they won't let you switch one pedal off, while in our '23 there are three brake modes which is great. Tesla and VW are both mistaken. All cars should have one pedal as an option, but allow the driver to choose like our '23. And it should be able to remember your preferred setting. However, there's no denying that BYD offers excellent performance for the price, and the more competition there is among electric vehicle companies, the better it is for us consumers. To answer your question about adjusting the regen braking in the previous version of the Model 3; the previous Model 3 Performance version allows you to adjust the front rear power balance, reduce/remove the effect of the stability control and adjust the regen braking effect down as low as you want in its "Track Mode". This mode was only available in the Performance version but it allows you to make the car rotate in a very controlled manner (a bit like a well sorted BMW M car).
    As you hinted at in the video, the only electric cars that are a practical proposition for long journeys in the UK (or elsewhere?) are the Teslas, for the simple reason that the Tesla Supercharger network is large and well distributed, with many chargers (8-16) at each location, whereas the public network is patchy and you're lucky to find a couple of working charge points at each location.

    Rented a model 3 for 3 days in Canada while on vacation. My car is an X3 and I have had sporty sedans before (being a sort of fan of “nervous” type of cars with character). Conclusion:
    The Tesla won me because it is so easy to DO EVERYTHING YOU NEED ON A ROUTINE basis. It becomes YOU. The control of speed, grip, acceleration, cruise control, charging points and overall FUN while feeling SUPER safe.
    Cons:
    Does not have a HUD, yes I love that in my X3!!! I use it to control the different speed zones and for quick GPS instructions.
    BTW guys there is an option on the 2023 model to adapt de de-de acceleration mode in levels ! My wife never liked it as much as the combustion engine coasting but it just takes a little of getting used to (30 mins).

    Bit of a correction: at 13:22 the "Recall" (a software update) was for Tesla to update their Autopilot driver monitoring system to more actively watch the driver and alert them when they take their eyes off of the road due to a few incidents of drivers abusing the system which lead to injuries or death in resulting crashes.
    The reason Park Assist (along with some other EAP features) isn't working is because ever since Tesla switched to fully using their Vision (camera only) system from the "Vision plus Ultra Sonic Sensors" setup, they haven't fully re-enabled everything. They will re-enable everything in the future however there is no timeline as of typing this.

And if I use my right arm top right on the steering wheel, I cannot see the centre display. All with fancy colours (Red, Green and Black), strings as the door compartments. The acceleration was good, charging quiet fast and the range ok (Munich Nuremberg).
    Just because of the smaller space for the passengers, I would avoid buying it.

    A point of difference is Byd has V2L which is sought after in rural areas.
    The Seal AWD as tested is only £35k in Australia. The 2wd long range version is £5k cheaper (5.8sec) Similarly, the BYD Atto 3 is only £27k. Sales tax is lower than in UK at 10% which contributes to lower prices, but it appears byd still have got room to lower prices in Europe when they are ready!

    • @lowkeyconvert8971
      @lowkeyconvert8971 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      erm, why are you putting the onus on lowering prices on BYD when it's likely the europeans putting their high tariffs on (might even be 100% tariff) to prevent chinese competition?

    • @Sly94
      @Sly94 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They can't lower their prices, it's do with EU tariffs that have more than doubled on Chinese imported cars.
      Germany lost their edge and can't compete so their automotive complex lobbies the EU constantly to get their own way, any EV's from China will have tariffs to jack up the prices of imports and make them look as if they are priced poorly compared to German cars. The goal is to obviously push consumers into picking a German car rather than a Chinese car to fuel the German economy.
      Tariffs used to be 17.1% now they're at 38.4% which has rightly annoyed China along with smaller EU nations as this means they can't get a cheap EV anymore in a time in which the EU have mandated a stop sell on combustion engines from 2035.

      There's a lot of corner cutting in the software for sure. But I think a lot of quality talent is missing in the industry anyway. Taking a CS degree won't educate you on how to make reliable and performance-aware software - at least not if you took it after 1990. Most software is focused on time to market and imagined reusability ("Clean Code™"), in my experience. Tesla's software has some above average software parts but other parts are severely lacking, simply judging from the clock speed of the hardware. I can't speak to QA but they don't have the best rumors. They're mostly focused on impact safety, I've read. It feels like they're cost-cutting and preparing for the future, sacrificing UX in the present.

      Congratulation on your purchase
      The significant difference in price is all down to Taxes to try and limit the growth of china's EV industry. At equal tax rates their would not be a comparison, BYD is a far better choice. Even at the prices shown in UK (about equal) I believe BYD looks a great choice. The only 2 advantages I see to the Tesla are the drive planer ( and honestly this could come soon to BYD or to apps like google maps or waze.), and the drive stability (I.E steering at 50+ M/hr) which wouldn't show in 90% of our normal commutes.
      In terms of looks, interior design, & finish feel i love the BYD seal. Also, in the long term, looking at china's dominance over the battery manufacturing, OEM battery replacement will probably be easier and cheaper on BYD for longevity.

      @@mindtpi I can't speak for New Zealand, but in the makers country, the Seal is cheaper than Model3. so the reason the seal is more expensive in Europe(and I suspect New Zealand) than model3 is because of tariffs that are higher for Chinese brands. US and EU have some tariff easing between them that benefits Tesla. These tariffs are a big source of tension right now between EU and China and are well documented. China increased tariffs on French wine as a warning a couple weeks ago for example.....

    I have one of the new Tesla Model 3s. I prefer the minimalist interior, but I agree they've gone too far with the stalk removal. The turn signal buttons are harder to use, especially when the steering wheel is inverted. The gear shifter is awkward, especially in situations where you have to change quickly or often, like parking. I'd even go so far as to say they detract from safety - you have to look at the steering wheel sometimes to locate the turn signal buttons and sometimes it's just easier not to indicate. Several times I've made a mistake with the gear shifter and ended up going in the wrong direction, it's surprisingly easy to do. I still prefer the new 3 to the old one, but you buy it despite the signal buttons and gear shifter, not because of them. I hope they put them back in a future model.
