  • Before we jump into the nitty gritty, it's a good idea that we talk about some of the common techniques and components you're going to be faced with using when building a character rig.
    In this video I detail my most used methods, and explain why some of these are better for game engines over others!
    In Part 2B we will build each component to learn how they work!

    It was a slip of the tongue, but calling bendy bones "blendy bones" is a good way to remember they only work in Blender.

      The plan is: show how to build these basic bits > build the deforming skeleton > rig the spine > rig the legs > rig the arms> rig the hands > rig the head > rig the face! There's lots to cover!

    The Blender development team should make a game engine that works well with Blender, one that supports all of it's armature features and Blender exclusive things. That would be cool.

    • @eidba7517
      @eidba7517 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there is a gameengine within blender and used to be a project, but it doesn't seem like its progressing anyhow, therefore don't expect too much of it.

    This is an awesome series!
    I have a silly question though, and maybe you cover it in a later episode, but ... how did you name your bone layers? That would be VERY useful, as I'm just getting started with my rigging and I'm constantly forgetting what's where. Either way, thanks for the awesome series!

    The reason why I hardly ever use spline IK is because I have traumatic experiences from 2.7 when I had to keep the deformation bones in a separate armature because of Blender's dependency graph. Also because I have to do twisting manually

    • @Dikko
      @Dikko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's why 2.8 is awesome :). Also once you see the infinite twist set up in a few vids you'll want to check out spline IKs again :)

    So let me ask a question. Are there any channels or discords you can recommend that actually are free and aren't convoluted to the point of secrecy, that I can check out that design and rig and animate speficially for "video or film or even short film" That aren't using motion capture or just doing walk cycles?

    • @Dikko
