    There's another M.2 slot on the right side. You can install an additional ssd there without the need to remove the existing 512gb. Just an FYI to those who didn't notice. Cheers!

The first time I tried it was with an MSI laptop and it was a complete failure because even after unscrewing it the back wouldn't come off. For this laptop it looks more straightforward.

    Thanks for the great video! I recently purchased the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 and was curious about upgradability. Your video is the best most concise video I have found for this platform thus far.
    Cardinal Sin #1 You forgot to disconnect the battery cable before connecting/disconnecting hardware.
    As another viewer commented about the second M.2 port... I had no idea that was there until reading they're comment.
    Mine came with the 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, & 16GB DDR5. I had plans to immediately upgrade the ram to 32GB DDR5 (2x16gb) and install a 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. I am even more excited about tis laptop now that I found out I can also add an additional 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD... never had a pc with 4TB storage before so that would be cool. Derp

    • @Kenny.J84
      @Kenny.J84 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think he meant unplug the battery from the laptop, as if you were going to remove it. It's always been recommended to do this but I agree with the video creator, if power cord is unplugged and cpu is powered off, I feel that is sufficient enough for me.... he's right, some manufacturers connections are stronger than the material it's made of, therefore susceptible to damaging while disconnecting and/or reconnecting

    • @RoachManTheFirst
      @RoachManTheFirst 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@waynepayne9875 The battery is still connected to the laptop itself, and the power plug leads to that battery. under some tape or whatever is securing it, there is a plug that keeps it connected which can be easily connected and disconnected to completely stop all possibilities of electricity and whatnot. I'm not an expert, in fact I just started to get into this stuff.

    This is a perfect laptop for first time pc gamers. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now and granted, it's had its fair share of problems, but since renewing the thermal paste, removing dust and installing an additional 1TB ssd, it's performing better than when I first purchased it. I'll definitely be looking at upgrading the ram in the future. The amount of replaceable components in the Nitro 5 really enables you to learn about how everything works.

    Second pciE slot used with a 970evo because it is 3rd generation pcie i have in my nitro 5 model, meaning it is a waste of money putting a gen4+ pcie SSD in there. (Even tho it's just 10$ difference)
    Added 16g of ram for a total of 24G, not optimal but fonctional without any issues untill now.

    Actually the video is well explained. If it wasn't for a few concerns on my part. When I switched on my Acer Nitro 5 for the first time, windows 11 home installed because it was on the existing m.2 .
    However, the friendly voice in the video changed exactly the M.2 on which the operating system was.
    At minute 2:57 you can see the second M.2 slot to the right of the lower RAM bar, and the screw for fastening is on the far right of the upper left corner of the usb port.
    The ram upgrade from 8 to at least 16 gb is recommended, but the fact that you have 2 different ram bars with different latencies and specs, is less good.
    At minute 4:23 you can see how the friendly voice restarts the laptop and immediately presses the F2 key to get into the BIOS, because in this state the laptop would never have made it to the Windows start screen because there is no operating system.
    And the one who has already done it the way the friendly voice did.
    Knows how tedious it can be with the operating system and all the drivers that belong to the laptop!

    Curious how you plan on mitigating the heat. M.2 Drives should have some kind of thermal tape across all the chips. Acer looks to have used a single pad for their 1 chip m.2 drive. Did you bother to place a full strip across your new drive to stop thermal throttling?

    • @305TechOfficial
      @305TechOfficial  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thermal pads don’t do much unless you use them against proper heat sink, there’s no space for a heatsink here. This is more of an issue with PCIe4 drives.

    • @GrabLifeByDaPoosy
      @GrabLifeByDaPoosy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gaminggeo2265 There's a greater chance of stripping the screw head if you use a screwdriver too small. When you put the screwdriver in the screw it should fit snugly. If your screwdriver can twist left and right inside the screw head without applying torque then it's too small. I'm not saying it won't work but if you strip the screw it's not gonna be easy to fix due to how small it is and how sensitive the device is. Sometimes some of the screws that go through the case also hold internal components in place so I wouldn't wanna risk it personally. You can buy a cheap screwdriver with interchangeable heads and it will most likely have #0, #1, and #2 Phillips head. Even the m.2 screws for SSD upgrade inside were #1.

    • @GrabLifeByDaPoosy
      @GrabLifeByDaPoosy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gaminggeo2265 It's one of those things where you might be ok but it could cause a much bigger headache than it's worth if it strips out. I would borrow one from someone or just buy a cheap screwdriver kit. Even the cheapest screwdriver or screwdriver kit will be sufficient

    I have a question I wanted to add an additional 2 TB drive to my laptop, which already has a 2 TB drive in the main slot. Do I have to buy anything to put on that new hard drive before I install it? I been reading somewhere something about thermal tape, but I know nothing of that and it didn’t come with any with the hard drive which seems a little silly. I don’t know why they wouldn’t include one little strip, but the new one is a western digital black 2TB , the old one western digital Green 2TB
    I also have one minor concern when I had an Acer predator Helios. I was told that if I wanted to upgrade the hard drive, I had to actually remove the first one and put it in the second slot to keep windows, active and everything where it was supposed to be and install the new slot where the old card was supposed to be. Does anyone know if that is the case with the Acer nitro 5
    An517-55-5354?

    According to Intel's and Acer's sites (I haven't opened my laptop because it still has warranty), the correct memory frequency is DDR4-2933.
    Since I can't find it anywhere, can I install DDR4-3200?
    What problems can I have?

      It’s hard to understand your question, if you have 2 memory slots, one is empty and one has memory already installed, all you have to do is install memory onto the second slot, if you have a single memory slot then you need to purchase a larger single memory dimm and replace the existing one. Good luck!!
