Really very useful tips Jarrod, I think some of the same advice can go with a PC too, like cleaning the motherboard after every month, always using high brand thermal paste, better ventilation or keeping a CPU in a dust free area, not using cheap components only high quality ones, I think it can make a gaming PC last for many years if bought the latest technology.

Do not change your laptops thermal paste unless you really really need to. It's added advantage is very minimal and if you already did not know 90% of the tips in this video, chances are you don't know how to do it right and will mess up your system. You are better of buying a laptop cooling pad and call it a day. Also don't go for flashy RGB cooling pads if you really wanna see a difference in temps. Get a cooling pad with atleast 2 120mm fans running at 1500 rpm up. Do this and you don't need anything else.
@@JarrodsTech Big fan of your content! I have a question, I read in a manual for ROG laptops to charge 3 hours before first use in battery mode. What if the ROG laptop was used in battery mode right away using it until reaching 15% and then charged for 2 hours then reaching 100% without following the 3 hours charge before first use, will it have bad effect on the gaming performance or bad effect on the battery health of the laptop? Is it okay to not follow the manual of 3 hours charge before first use? Because I did not manage to follow it sadly.
Used your video to tutorial to undervolt i7-8750H last year, it was great help. tried using it again Last Sunday and I discover that intel has now locked the CPU... my laptop is basically an oven now.
short, sweet, no bs, no over explaining. lets me do my own research and felt like i should finish the vid without skipping through stuff which is good for your algorithm. thumbs up all around.
if your laptop is thermal throttling i recommend going to power settings, click edit power plan, advanced settings and decrease maximum performance to 99%. what this essentialy does is disabling turbo boost, i personally decreased my temps by 15 degrees with no performance loss.
When on battery power only, I set the CPU Frequency to 80% in Windows Power Plan Settings. It helps the laptop go longer on battery only before needing a charge. Although I notice a difference in how snappy the laptop is, it’s not too much different. It runs cooler and the fans do not need to turn on/spin up as often, saving that battery power for processing by staying on passive cooling only most of the time. This will vary depending upon how good of a heatsink your laptop has. The one in my laptop is pretty good. Razor Blade 15 Base early 2020 model

Pro tip: customise the fans speed for better performance. Enable custom fan speeds and you should get to see a graph, then turn all the interactive figures up by minimum 10%. Sorry if the explanation is a bit poor :(
Can you elaborate a bit more on the battery tip? Shouldn't the power brick stop sending voltage when the laptop hits 100% battery, and not damage battery lifespan? Also, what kind of third party software do you recommend for limiting charge power if your computer doesnt come with that built in function? Thanks in advance!
I just assume that the power from cable will stop redirecting to the battery and instead directly power the component when it's at 100%. Is that not the case?
The software would have to gain access to the bios from the OS. I am sure it might be possible with Linux, but for Windows. Not so sure, and you would have to be careful which software you would give access to it.
For thermal paste, I highly recommend using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut! 12.5w/mK is one of the highest ratings. It spreads very evenly. In personal tests I have done, it not only performs better than other TIM's, but it is also very effective at lowering core to core temperature differences. This can mean a lot where it comes to thermal throttling, be it CPU or GPU temps. Built in algorithms are based on temperature headroom, so lowering the temps will naturally increase clock speeds, and keep them there for longer periods of time. As for the batteries, yes. If you are using the while plugged in, limit the charge to 80% if possible. This of course comes with a caveat. You should charge it to 100% every so often, and drain the battery completely, then charge to 100% and reset the charge limit back to 80%. This is to insure that the battery doesn't develop any "charge memory" issues, where it it fully charged, but thinks it only has say 70% charge.
for the battery charge limit, is it really necessary to have it? and is there any trusted third party software for it? cause apparently i have none of those on my laptop.
@@marcelhrtn They would have to access the motherboard bios, because that is the only thing you can make changes. And it is important to know which apps you would give them permission to make changes within the bios. But, some laptop brands like MSI already have software that allows just that and more.
I used that on mine and has been a bit hotter since I did it. I'm going to retry it when I get some more since I didn't have much left and might have been too thin.
if you have an intel system, check out ThrottleStop. This will give you greater control over your thermal performance (overclock and undervolt options), allow you to set a more specific performance setting while on battery mode (eg, only use X% of the CPU power and to boost or not boost) and with the help of additional programs, allow you to set your screen to automatically change refresh rate when plugged in or on battery. I combine this with HWiNFO64 so I can put my thermals, CPU usage and GPU usage on my task bar for easy monitoring.
I used a gaming laptop in a friends house for a few days and I had to use ThrottleStop from techpowerup and saved me. Disabling the turbo it was all it needed to stop overheating and freezing. Do you use for any other than that? Curious too about the Hz change...that saves power.
0:10 I just got a lenovo laptop with a 3050ti and ryzen 7 but idk if it is worth connecting another monitor for a 17% boost... is it really worth cuz u would think that it will lessen the performance of the laptop becuz it has to display on 2 monitors instead of one

Great video! I like these types of video as well, and as for thermal pastes, what would you recommend for longevity and minimal pump out . And another good addition in performance tuning will be to tune power limits if thermals are issues via XTU or AATU
Not sure if you'd read this Jarrod, but a friend of mine has a Dell G7 7588 and we recently found out that the newer bioses actually prevent undervolting (they block intel XTU and throttlestop). I was wondering if you knew any way around this or had a way to enable undervolting again, as it would help his laptop from overheating
The fact they've locked your friend out of undervolting should mean that there's an even BIGGER issue with the hardware that they can't get around and preventing undervolting has proven to be something that diminishes the chance of that issue occurring. I'd steer clear of undervolting and get a cooling pad for that laptop, cheers
By wall power, do you mean just plugging the charger into the laptop to game or is there a power cable that bypasses the battery to power the laptop? I'm confused Also 0:18 what kind of laptop stand is that?
Nice stuff! I only have some doubts regarding dual channel memory. I set up this in my 7700hq, and overall the only thing I noticed was the increased heat on the ram modules area....
well for performance increase you DO want dual channel memory but you also want to "balance" the load by finding a "sweet spot" or conservative setting for the ram modules so you are not cooking the board :D
Hey Jarrod, this year's Acer Predator Helios 300 has two variants. One with the 10th gen Intel i7 10870H and the other with 11800H. The laptop itself is an intriguing competition to thr Acer Nitro 5. Would you look into it?
Here’s a hack for laptop users: go left, forward, forward, right, right, forward, forward, right, forward, back to the store where you bought it and ask for a refund
My tip: overclock your screen! Most of screens can support refresh rates a bit higher than the default one. All you need to do is to open the Nvidia configuration pannel (just right click on the desktop to open it) and go into "change the resolution". There you can customise the resolution and also the refresh rate of your screen. You can find the maximum refresh rate supported by your screen by increasing the refresh rate 1 Hz by 1 Hz until some weirdnesses appear on the screen. Do not expect a massive gain but on one of my computers I can use my 144 Hz screen at a 157 Hz refresh rate.

Dear Jerrod and everyone, I would like to ask what cooling pad do you use in this vid or what do you recommend best laptop to buy for a laptop? thanks so much!
0:35 would this be the same if you plug laptop into a battery bank/solar system glamping ? as it also is dc. ? 0:50 any thoughts on negative advents if you just remove the battery and plug in to wall ? IE like is it bad to plug battery in before unplugging wall ?
Your break from your usual speech candor at tip #10 was endearing, I actually don't mind the predictability of your tone of voice at all but hearing something different and tinged with emotion to boot was cool
not sure if this is super relevant to anyone but I started getting super bad performance on my 2070 laptop and I randomly came across someone mentioning going into the nvidia control panel and enabling the limit framerate option and setting it to your monitors max framerate. Literally improved every game I played apart from watchdogs legion even cyberpunk 2077 started running alright at 40-50 mark whereas before it was 20-40. So if you think your system should be performing better than it is, I highly suggest trying this. It boosted a bunch of games performance by an extra 10-20fps
Bro you're not lying about the external screen thing. I'm not sure if this is the same, but I had an old laptop that was really laggy. When I hooked it up to a screen projector it ran 60 fps. Pretty crazy
my laptop is 8 years old and still runs fine and is quite fast. The only thing it can't do is gaming (it runs LoL at 50fps on max settings 1080p), but everything basic like web browsing, document editing runs perfectly. I just replaced the dvd drive with the cheapest ssd I could find and the laptop became 10 to 20 times faster. It was a 40$ upgrade.
Using a stand can dramaticaly drop the laptop temperature espesiacy those with fans, not that the fans do anything fancy but the open side beneath allows the laptop to breathe.
ONe thing to keep in mind is that by replacing the thermal paste, you may void your warranty so be careful if there are stickers over the screws that hold down the heatpipe and fan assemblies for those components as I have seen some that have tamper-proof stickers, so I would only do this if it doesn't void your warranty and/or your laptop is out of warranty.

Very quick, even though I don't have a gaming laptop or even a laptop in general I appreciate this video
Great video! I like these types of video as well, and as for thermal pastes, what would you recommend for longevity and minimal pump out .
And another good addition in performance tuning will be to tune power limits if thermals are issues via XTU or AATU
Very useful short video! Thanks👍
I'm confused
Also 0:18 what kind of laptop stand is that?
He means to just plug your charger into your laptop so you can extend battery life and increase fps
In 2 minutes many things can happen. This is the fastest tips that worth watching. Thanks, you've just got a new subs
Badass shirt man, I saw them live with slayer!🤘
been watching your channel for days optimizing my 2021 G14. thanks for what you do
Hey Jarrod, this year's Acer Predator Helios 300 has two variants. One with the 10th gen Intel i7 10870H and the other with 11800H.
The laptop itself is an intriguing competition to thr Acer Nitro 5.
Would you look into it?
Hey Jarrod could you tell me if playing with a charger connected is good?
Here’s a hack for laptop users: go left, forward, forward, right, right, forward, forward, right, forward, back to the store where you bought it and ask for a refund
Nice one 😂😂👍
You got me man😂
Tip number 10 was a game changer, thank you so much!!
Do not expect a massive gain but on one of my computers I can use my 144 Hz screen at a 157 Hz refresh rate.
yes but it might void waranty and will decrease the screens lifetime, if youre find with the fps, dont do it
Im getting a gaming laptop for xmas so this is gonna be great help, thank you very much
the most informative videos on gaming laptop ever.
2:05 I was sitting in the university library doing some of my class work, and this cute university girl was sitting on the other table across me with her MacBook Pro. I smiled at her and turned on my Legion 7 RGB lights full blast rainbow 🌈 color effects and she just smiled at me. Most beautiful smile I’ve seen
Best gaming laptops channel!
the bonus one changed my life thank you very much deserve a like and sub
Dear Jerrod and everyone, I would like to ask what cooling pad do you use in this vid or what do you recommend best laptop to buy for a laptop? thanks so much!
Well made, comprehensive, and compact. THAT'S how it should be done.
Last tip works like a charm!
0:35 would this be the same if you plug laptop into a battery bank/solar system glamping ? as it also is dc. ?
0:50 any thoughts on negative advents if you just remove the battery and plug in to wall ? IE like is it bad to plug battery in before unplugging wall ?
actual great vid, and the secret 10th Tip blew my mind!
Your break from your usual speech candor at tip #10 was endearing, I actually don't mind the predictability of your tone of voice at all but hearing something different and tinged with emotion to boot was cool
I just like all pf his videos. And while im not in the market for a new laptop. I continue watching his vids
not sure if this is super relevant to anyone but I started getting super bad performance on my 2070 laptop and I randomly came across someone mentioning going into the nvidia control panel and enabling the limit framerate option and setting it to your monitors max framerate.
You rock man. My laptop is a beast now.
Nice vid bro
my laptop is 8 years old and still runs fine and is quite fast.
I like how Jarrod is talking very seriously at the last tip but just completely breaks his composure when explaining it
Immediately going straight to the points. Love your quick video man
Thank you super useful ❤❤❤🔥🔥and I'll forget about tip number 10🤣🤣
Using a stand can dramaticaly drop the laptop temperature espesiacy those with fans, not that the fans do anything fancy but the open side beneath allows the laptop to breathe.
The last one worked like magic!
Holy you squeezed 9 tips into a two and a half minute video?? Good stuff man! Most TH-camrs these days would unnecessarily drag it out to 10 minutes.
I love you Jarrod´s Tech
this is the most satisfying one out there .
No. 10 is the pro tip. Love the sound effect.
Now that was fast, quick and incredibly useful
thank you ❤ this video is helpful
Judging by your choice of shirts I'd bet our playlist is quite similar...
Nice vid btw keep up the good work!.
Thanks! 😁
The final tips are amazing 😆
Definitely glad to know about battery limiting! That definitely is good to know about that
Thank you for getting right into it
Thank man, I am a completely new laptop user. And it helped me .
