I got the newer version, but lower spec of this laptop off of prime days. Dude has been a life saver with storage and helping me upgrade memory and storage. I havent done this stuff since my early 20's so this video was very helpful.
I have this model variant with Intel i5-10300H and RTX 3050. Such a good budget-laptop! I upgraded this laptop with SSD Nvme WD SN750, 16 GB RAM sodimm Corsair Vengeance. Now, my laptop works way better in terms of performance and thermals. In addition, you made this video looking very easy to do for ourselves. Thank you!

Thank you. I have taken this laptop apart twice before for ram and 2nd m.2 drive upgrades, just got a 2.5 ssd to max out the storage and thought I was going crazy with no connector, but you reminded me of the hdd connector and screws in the box. Thanks again.
Thanks, I just upgraded RAM on one of these using a plastic card to pry it open without damaging anything. very easy to upgrade RAM / SSD on these, but seeing how simple it was from this video really helps!

I own a smaller Nitro 5 and desperately need to upgrade from the single 250GB SSD. I'm a hobbyist not a professional, and you answered every single question I had. Dope video man. I got one just to do stuff when traveling and to take classes. I always look up videos of other people disassembling laptops before I try. So easy to upgrade this laptop. Thanks for making this~! I am going to travel and was thinking about how much storage I have and wanting to add more this is perfect.
So My main question is, can you use all 3 slots simultaneously and what’s the highest GB capacity you can go in each individual slot? Like what capacity do they cap out at?
Hey, you can, as we show in the Video, use all 3 slots simultaneously. There is, technically speaking, not really a limit. NTFS, which is the filesystem of Windows 11, can handle up to 8 Petabytes per Volume, but there is no way to put that much data into the Nitro 5 :). Currently I think the most you can do is around 12TB since 4TB per drive is currently what consumer SSDs will offer. However, if you happen to have VERY deep pockets there are 16TB SATA SSDs around as well. But you can get about 2 to 3 Nitro 5 for that kind of money.
I have to admit , that a bit of an overkill but at least I know when the time need it , I can be sure to have lot of space hahaha, (especially if there new warzone update )
@@nezunish-2-824 hey man, I See you Play warzone too. Do you have any problems with the game playing on a Acer nitro 5? I have set the settings on the low but still on caldera the game crashes almost every 2-3 games.

Hey was there 2 slots for RAM? It says in task manager that there is 2, and only 1 is used (8gb) and I wanted to add another 8GB stick for dual-channel performance and more RAM in general, but it's not clear from the video if there's 2 or just 1 slot for RAM

Hey did you upgrade the laptop's RAM? If so, is there 2 slots or just the 1? In the video, he replaced the RAM stick, but I want to add another 8GB RAM stick ontop of the original 8GB stick that is already in the laptop. I'm not sure if there is another slot, as it's hard to tell from the video, and he doesn't use it. Thanks in advance
@@proventus7 yes brother it has 2 slots for ram so adding more sodimm its available. I could tell you this cause i immediately add more ram when i bought it.

Question : can the second nvme ssd burn components below ? since the nvme is unprotected, and i understood it can get quite hot. I wonder if some kind of protection should be added between the motherboard and the second nvme.

My question that I can't find an answer to....is there a limit to the amount of storage you can install? I had thought 2TB was the biggest drive i could install, but I saw in the video you installed a 4TB SSD SATA. My question is, for both m.2 nvme and 2.5 SATA, how high can you go, and if there really isnt a limit, what max is reasonable for under $300?

How do you transfer the OS from old ssd to new ssd. And do you need to install drivers manually for ram and ssd?
Can I ask, what is the actual max memory that can be installed in the AN517-54-72Z3? Acer claims the max ram is 32 Gb, but Intel claims the I7-11800H can handle up to 128 Gb of ram memory and while looking for information I found a company MemoryStock claiming and selling 64 GB for the aforementioned laptop. It's all very confusing when everyone gives you different specifications and I am upgrading the ram and a 2nd PCIe SSD and want to get the most ram I can safely handle. Thank you in advance...

hey, i’ve heard lots of people saying that if you don’t have matching ram sizes, it can cause issues for the laptop or can be slower? has having an 8gb ram and a 16gb ram inside the laptop caused any problems for you?
@@metroditeNope, its just fine. But ram speed goes to 2933mhz from 3200mhz because it's not identical ram (even with same 8 + 8 gb ram). I prefer replace OEM ram with kit

No not a noticable difference in battery - a new RAM stick would only have a small increase on powerdraw, so I don't think there's anything to worry about :)

Hi. I can see you replaced only 1 ram stick to another. Did you upgraded from 2x4GB to 1x4GB+1x8GB total 12GB?
I don't think that the Nitro 5 comes with any 4GB sticks, and it says in task manager on my Nitro 5 that there's 2 slots, one is used by the shipped RAM stick. he prolly upgraded from a 1x8GB stick to a 1x16GB stick

I wish the part about form factor was clearer…sounds like S O dem form factor or something at 1:10. I ordered the wrong type. figured whatever you said at 1:10 was important though i couldn’t understand it. so i told the store i had a nitro 5 and said any ddr4 ram would worknso i got the wrong kind.
is there a limit to 2.5" drive size? im seeing that the specs on the newer nitros say max 2tb 2.5"? seems awfully small considering 4tb and 8tb drives are readily available

The screw for the storage upgrade isn't screwing out when i try to screw it with all different sizes of screwdrivers

Hey, well yes, but at the current SSD pricings, there is just no reason anymore to buy a HDD. The performance aside, SSDs provide other benefits like being way more resilient to shocks and other environmental influences. They also draw less power and are completely silent, while HDDs may be audible while being accessed. You're totally fine to get a rather cheap QVO or dramless SSD for that purpose though.
Glad I bought this laptop. , I got it as base version with Intel I5 11 gen with GTX1650 , the only problem I have is the 8GB ram , and thankfully there two Ram slot so I can run dual channel instead of one , didn't know you can put 3 storage inside tho , that a bonus ngl

Couldn’t you also just buy a HDD upgrade cable somewhere else or do you recommend just getting it from acer?

Hey, there is no reason why it wouldn't run 2x32GB. But there may be certain models with older or low-power CPUs around we don't know, since there may be a lot of regional differences. Best way to check memory compatibility is to check the specs of the CPU on the manufacturer site.
How do you know what kinda size hdd you need so it can fit into the laptop and how many GB your laptop supports?

Hey quick question! I have the 2022 Acer Nitro 5 with a i7-11800h with a RTX 3050 and 8gb 3200 sodimm Ram. Can I just buy a 16 ram and use the second slot or remove the 8gb RAM and just buy a whole new ram kit 16gb? Please let me know which is best. I have RYZEN desktop so I know having dual channel ram is important but does it matter on the laptop to have same brand and speed?
You notice how the base has some heatsinks for the ssds. The heatsinks also have a thermal pad attached to it. I been wanting to replace the pads on mine as they seem dirty and worn out. Where can I find such pads my good sir?
I don’t even know there are people who opened the back of the laptop to upgrade without shutting it down. It’s like doing a surgery on an alive patient.

Yeah you just pay more and get a different laptop, you just need to weigh up cost of both and do whatever is cheaper and better for you.
