Acer Nitro 5 2023 first impressions! The change to 16:10 is a nice one. The price will determine whether this is a hit in 2023. Hope everyone is doing well!
One thing I didn't like about it is the bottom bezel of the display, increasing the overall size. While switching to 16:10 displays, most companies like Asus, Lenovo, were able to utilize the bottom display bezels of their 16:9 15.6" displays to fit a vertically longer 16" 16:10 display, hence without increasing the Laptop size. Here it looks like that Acer has almost same amount of bottom bezels in these new 16:10 16" Displays as it was in their previous 15.6" 16:9 displays.
They really watch the reviews. improved quiet a lot from 2021 model
Hi, I have a question: can you possibly have a new nitro sense on a 2021 model?
@@IvanKoroban yes its available in every nitro sense model i think cuz its a software not a hardware
@@123Suryasis While that looks better i think it's also more expensive to pull off because companies like Asus have to bend the display backwards (near the chin) to make space for all the connectors for the display
Big battery and removal of the 2.5" drive bay, about time!

Hey! No spying on your competitor
still weak hinge which will break in few nonths
Jarrod what's with the new amd naming?? 30, 35, 40, 45 series??
It's very very very confusing and which processor performs how much better than the last gen 6000 series?
The normal naming should have been continued
@@trexxtechs2857 30 series is Barcelo-R, which is Zen 3.
35 series is Rembrandt-R, which is Zen 3+.
40 series is Phoenix, which is Zen 4.
45 series is Dragon Range, which is Zen 4, up to 16 cores.
The 40 and 45 series are the only ones that are new, 30 and 35 are basically leftovers are that are being rebranded and reused as new chips.
It's good to know that Nitro 5 is improving for the better. I still use my Acer Nitro 5 from early 2021 (AN515-55). The change to 16 :10 screen ratio will definitely improve the use for my professional work (other than gaming). 😄
i litreally thought its a time stamp and clicked it.....
I have one from 2018 my screen is fucked. Both my hinges broke and it's slow asf. Though, i have to upgrade the ram and ssd n shit
does thermals good for long use?
Mine is 2019 and still great, except for fan issues since they are both on one side.

ACER makes the best budget gaming laptops hands down. I'm still rocking a Helios 300 from 2018 with Core i7 8750H + GTX 1060 6GB + 32GB RAM. While the laptop initially ran hot out of the box, after undervolting the CPU & GPU along with new thermal paste, it was the fastest 8750H+1060 combo of that time, and it still is. I'm not a heavy gamer, I bought the laptop mainly for MATLAB & AutoCAD and this thing still flies in 2023. My screen is 60Hz which is fine for me, but its beautiful with 98% sRGB.

definitely a client of Acer here. Ending 2021 I was looking for a gaming laptop, where gpu prices for desktop where insane, laptops were the option. Best switch i have ever did. I endep up buying an ACER NITRO 5 17.3 inch. 144hz with 3060gpu, with an insane fair price of 999 euros, it came with 8gb of ram so i have to buy new ram but still the best price by far that i found.
Still using it now, im gaming, editing with this laptop at the date, no problem at all, have to tweak the voltages for lower temperatures but thats normal in laptops.
Hand down to acer, they are making GOOD, durable, price performance laptops. I would definitely buy another with a newest gpu. But so far this model that i have still rocking it.
people saying acer nitro 5 from 2021 and 2022 do not have a good hinge. What do you think about the hinge ? is it durable ?
@@vasifgurbanov2858mine is fine, just it'll shift side ways after some time open and closing. Also being wobbly.
I have the old one with 10th gen i7 and 1660Ti, its nice to use but gets really hot on the keyboard, the fan noise is loud too. Nice to see the Nitro 5 has evolved so much
thats not old, I have the 8th gen GTX 1050 :(
bro you need to do the thermal repaste and buy a cooling pad it will be good then
try undervolting
I have the 3050 4gb 2021 model it’s really good I get 450 fps in esport games like Fortnite

I still use my Acer Nitro 5 2018, I7 8gen, still doing amazingly with 32gb of ram and 500gb m.2 ssd. I'm a fan of the nitro 5, it's a good laptop for it's price point
First review of a 2023 laptops let's go!
After watching the videos some thoughts are as follow:
-It's seems that we're basically getting an HS series of the 6900HX since it's Zen 3 with new naming scheme.
- Digging the new look although the logo on the screen could be a tad more subtle.
- Old keyboard but we have a turbo mode like the Helios 300 from yesteryear.
- Still waiting on that RTX 4070 reviews. This embargo period is really coming up. Pretty sure it's around February since that's where all the sales kick in.
Can't wait to see how capable those chips are. Hopefully those new naming scheme gets an upgrade over last time cause otherwise, we're basically getting the 6900HS.
The QHD version is interesting, will have to see how prices compare to Legion 5i Pro
Got the 3070 ti with 6800H version for ~$900, absolute freaking steal... it also has 1440p with 165hz, I manually upgraded its 1 TB SSD to 2 and 16 gb ddr5 ram to 32 for $120, super worth it
Im looking at one for 1100 with 32 gb ram, how hot does it get?
Woah where’d you score such a deal?
Last year i bought nitro 5, cant really agree with saying its a budget laptop. Overall i really like it, so far all games i played runs smooth and good at ultra settings. The only thing i hate is how hot laptop gets. On games like rdt2, roe, csgo, dayz it gets up to 94celsius. Bought cooling pad, so its little better now, up to like 89-90. Price was about 2200 euro, it was on discout + got extra discout since it was last laptop they had on the store(display model), so paid 1800euro for it.
Specs are:
17inch
Rtx3080
Qhd 165hz
AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX
16gb of ram
1tb ssd
idk i just got the nitro 5 with rtx 4050 and an i5 and 16 gbs of ram.... that was only 800 which i would consider a budget laptop. guess it really depends what model you get, seems like theres a different nitro 5 for every price point lmfao
Dude ofc its not a budget laptop. U literally picked 3080 for that thing.
I never thought to compare my nitro 5 to others, they all seemed the same - at least visually. Now I’m wondering which year had THE BEST price to performance? Is it going to be 2023?
looks good but i think they wont be appealing to the budget segment anymore. But still a Great laptop if the price is right and performance
I cannot wait for your full review on the latest Nitro 5 model. I am currently saving up to buy a gaming laptop and I have been an Acer user since primary school. Seeing the latest model boosts me to save up more.

Acer makes the most cheap looking laptops, props to them for this
Cheap looking laptops?
Bruh are you criticising them or praising them?
Makes sense though, their stuff is usually aimed at the Asian market so the gamery cheap looking design works cause the Asian market loves it and also priced slightly below the competition like their aspire line also looks a little bit cheap and always is cheaper than the competition for the same specs
@@raviundhad1929 it's true. Looks damn cheap
@@carmeloanthony5267 dude it's budget series
Besides see rest of comments most of people including me liked the new design, if you feel like that it's cheap then there's something wrong in your opinion
@@raviundhad1929 dude haven't you seen any of the other laptops? And do you seriously think the 40 series will be cheap? Lol. Acer literally said Nitro series is gonna be more expensive. And at that price point just get a legion or rog. Nitro has features but the second worst design after the MSI budget series.
It's about time I upgraded my 2017 Nitro 5 model😆. The reason I waited so long is I wasn't particularly pleased with the newer ones but this one is probably gonna be the one for me.
What I want is more $1500-$2000 midrange ultraportable options in the ballpark of 3.75-4.25lb/1.7-1.9kg.

Great review. Will love to see this paired up with the Asus Rog Strix G17 laptop.
I brought a Nitro 5 in 2020 with the Ryzen 5 and a 1650. It was decent but the GPU is no longer detected.
Same thing happened to me
I'm hoping to upgrade my 1070 desktop this year and I'm likely to go for a laptop instead, and I'm really looking forward to seeing just how much power we will get this year on more efficient chips. The Steamdeck has impressed me for what it does at such a low power draw and I'm hoping a sub 100w laptop will be able to power modern games at 1440p on high settings. That's my metric for finally upgrading my desktop. Raw power is nice and all, but I also appreciate efficiency as well.
Issue with laptops is shitty batteries and chargers. Temps are also a big factor. Be aware that the better the GPU/CPU the more power draw you will have. Overall, though, if you are aware and take care of it the portability of laptops are a huge plus.
Bear in mind you have a much smaller upgrade cycle on a laptop, they don’t last as long as desktops as there is so much heat in a small space.
You can do things like disable turbo on the cpu to reduce heat and prolong life, unfortunately though any attempt to reduce power usage on GPU on my ASUS Tuf results in a black screen note sure why. Results may vary! Picked up a TUF with 6900H and 3070Ti for 999£ was a good investment price to performance, don’t recommend buying at RRP!

Can you make a comparison video of this laptop and the predator helios 2022 after you gpt the retail version of this laptop?
I'm going to buy a laptop mid 2023s and I'm choosing between this nitro 16 and predator helios 2022. It's quite hard to choose what to buy.
Why, why do they have to destroy the laptop with a numeric keyboard - you need the space to maybe turn the speakers to the side so the motherboard can use more space for cooling.
OMG! I should have waited. I was choosing between the Air M1 base model or the Nitro 5 2022 but opted to get the Air M1 base model due to eco system.
If I waited s, I could have gotten this. Tsk tsk.
Nevertheless, great vid as always, Matt. Excellent job! 👍🏻 💪🏻
Those are two totally separate computers for different use cases. Ones a great thin and light for general office tasks/ web browsing and great battery life. The other is an entry to mid level gaming computer that can handle games and heavy 3d applications. Not sure why you would be deciding between the two, as it should be fairly obvious which one will fill your need.
Both laptop cannot even be conpared at all comparing macbook to gaming laptop its like comparing cars and truck
Thanks for the comments, I compared them because of the price difference though. Air M1 is 799 and the nitro 5 2022 is 799 as well. So the new nitro 2 could be around the same price of the m2 Air makes it comparable.
But I guess I was wrong with comparing them as you guys are right, the air m1 is for productivity use while the nitro 5 is for gaming.
I hope for you all a good day
Its funny because all the people I know who bought an Acer laptop regreted it sooner or later. Last year I was looking for a new laptop and found lot of reviews saying wonders about the nitro line. I though maybe they finally got it right. Since I needed something less bulky and a touch screen for quick drawings I discarted it right away. But a friend asked me if he should try the nitro 5.
I was like: I dont like Acer (always been Toshiba user and Im, still, in deep mourning) but I´ve read good things about it. So he went and got it. After 6 months of constant troubles with mic while gaming, overheating, sudden blackouts, excesive noise etc he just returned it. So they still suck at making laptops or u get a big chance of getting a bad unit.
@@garrusvakarian8709I wished getting a laptop was much easier like getting MacBooks, windows machines are so bad especially laptops. If only I can game on a mac.
@@Okamine buy the high end ones, budget ones will always be having issues.
You guys are making me doubt whether I should buy Acer Nitro 5 with i5 12th gen, 3050. My friend got some issues in his screen of Acer Predator laptop which he got about 6,7 months ago and he sent it for repair as he had warranty left
i bought my acer predator back in 17/18 i think and it still works like a boss. heck now that i have completely optimized it works even better. opened it multiple times , run heavy games for long time have used it heavily and no signs of anything dying. so yea idk what ur talking about cos acer is definitely one of the best companies out there when it comes to making laptop.
@@zenoafro stuff like that can happen thats why warranty exists. if u have a good deal and u like the form factor and it has good thermals you should go for it, the only thing i would suggest is looking for a 3060 one because the 3050 and its 4gb vram is going to get obsolete soon.

When closed, 16x10 big heatsink gaming laptops look like the laptop that got me through college...playing Warcraft 3 on a 4x3 screen.
The frustrating part: these 16x10 machines will require you to use either a messenger bag or a bigger backpack sized for a bigger 17in (ie nothing like an XPS 17) just to fit that depth. Which could be avoided if they didn't taper it so much towards the front so you have more space for the battery down there.
