Great video man. Lots of people are scared of opening laptops and videos like this help them gain the confidence to finally crack it open for that long awaited upgrade.
I have been wanting to add an extra m.2 ssd to my laptop, but i was too scared to do so, but with gaining enough confidence (which your video played a huge role in) i finally cracked open the laptop and installed an extra m.2 ssd and then after a while upgraded the ram. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Hi. I was hesitant to upgrade, not really knowing how to get started. This video really helped me. THANKS. P.S. I am an elderly person so it seemed difficult at first...
Hello. yea just take your time. Make sure the pc is shut down completely and double check after every step. Often when i use youtube to help do tech stuff i have it on my phone so i can pause do 1 step then play and do the next. Good luck and feel free to ask questions!
Nice! Make sure you update the firmware. The 980's have firmware that will lower the longevity of the device. Install samsung magician if you haven't already and it will tell you to upgrade. Hope it goes well.
Thank you for the great video!! I was able to add 4T of storage to my laptop with ease. You made it simple and easy for a dork like me to make it happen. I appreciate it. Thanks buddy. 😁
Thanks for watching. Take your time and be grounded if you can. Be patient when plugging in the ribbon cable. Make sure it is all the way in before you snap the latch down. You will need to format the drive so windows can see it after.
I don't remember the exact size but it's a small phillips screw. Any electronics kit will have the right size. The driver was actually a bit big that I used but still worked. Hope this helps. Feel free to subscribe!! I would appreciate it 😁 ask any other questions if you need help.
So funny, I just did this exact upgrade on the exact same laptop today! The only difference is you got 1 tb on the 870 evo lol. And I got the 980. I learned that even though it's a gen 4 m.2 SSD it is fully backwards compatible with the gen 3 motherboard. It just writes/reads at the gen 3's max speed.
@noahrasmus7612 hey my guy. Thanks for the catch. Was working on a desktop that the 980 pro was going into at the same time. Good news for you as you can easily return it and get the 980, as that one without a heatsink will fit.
Thank you! I did it and it was a success! Warranty sticker was placed on the centre right screw though so I traded warranty for that extra 2tb and 32gb of ram. Worth it?
Yes i believe you are right. Someone berated me and i distinctly remember them blaming me for it not fitting. You won't have heating issues without a heatsink at all in my experience. Glad you liked the video. The 980 i put in there is still running good. Just remember to do a firmware update right off the bat if you choose the same drive. Some versions of these had defective firmware.
@@TritonTv69420 thank you. I have ordered a newer one without heat sink and also ordered a thin copper heat sink wrap that apparently helps.. trying to record HDR gameplay in OBS so it may get warm. Will reference your video when I install. Thanks again 👍
Never upgraded a laptop before, would you recommend backing up my files before adding the M2 and the SAYDA? Or will it be okay? And will I need to reinstall windows?
When you just add drives you won't need to back anything up. Just make sure it's unplugged from AC power and unplug the battery (can't remember if I showed that in this video. It's the ribbon cable right next to the battery). As long as you aren't erasing your main boot drive you should be fine and not loose any data. It's SATA :) good luck feel free to ask questions I will try to check this comment. Good luck
@@TritonTv69420 thanks buddy - sorry I’m typing this at 4am so my brain went brr on the spelling there haha! Thanks again and I’ll deffo look into upgrading my drives and RAM. 10/10 instructional video and no doubt gonna be super helpful when I get around to it! ✌️
Nice. Take your time. Go to ifixit.com and order a toolkit with spudgers. They are basically plastic guitar pick things or little wedge tools (depending on which style you get). This will help you pop open the clamps holding the case together without damaging it.. As for the battery thing. I realized mine was still plugged in but the pc was OFF. Not asleep. OFF. Make sure its fully powered off. The ram sticks are just held in place with a little tab from what i remember. Make sure you get the right style. It might have to be ddr4. Any time you take stuff apart dont pull too hard. If you have to pull really hard a cable might still be plugged in, tab still clicked in, or screw still in place. Always take your time and you will be happy nothing breaks and your upgrade goes smoothly.
I have the same laptop and recently (the day before yesterday) I saw an Acer official video that said the opening of the back plate should be started at the exhausts side. Should have looked at it sooner. Like you, I too opened the machine from a random and now forgotten spot when upgrading the RAM to 32Gb (for faster video montage) and added a half a terabyte SSD. I underestimated my needs with this last though and the second M.2 shall arrive as soon as I can find it at a bargain price.
Yea i keep finding that even if the extra price seems a bit much. Its usually better to double the storage amount you think you need. That way it takes longer to fill drives. Hopefully the video helped.
@@TritonTv69420 Well, I had that Samsung SSD wandering around lost and unused in my toolbox (I actually have another too there, branded Kingston) and thought, "why not, it's free", or I'd have given priority to the M.2 slot. I may end up subbing it for something bigger, but only after having equipped the rig with a new maybe 2Tb M.2 drive, or maybe leave it there if the new drive results being enough, we shall see. PS The Acer video suggested disconnecting the battery before proceeding, I didn't, like you, and like you had no issues. I just wonder...
Its a safety thing. Its better to do any work with no chance of power. Im willing to bet those motherboards support hot swaps but its just better to be safe. The cool thing is if you do another Samsung drive you can use Samsung Magician to clone the new one with the old. Remove and you will be exactly where you were. If you havent already i suggest installing samsung magician. Its a really good software for drive health and over provisioning. I use the suggested 10% over provisioning. My main drive is going strong since july of 2017 with tons of terabytes written.
@@TritonTv69420 Samsung Magician, huh? Well, for the cloning it will have to wait I find a Samsung M.2 that fits me, but even should my second M.2 not be Samsung, the second SSD only has some games and easy to copy over data upon it, so not really an issue. The health management is a good tip though, thanks.
For sure. The reason is pretty simple. Ssd's have what's called the block size. Its basically the minimum size of data saved at a time. Files hardly ever are the exact size of the blocks. So the internal memory controller regularly moves junk excess data around to clean up the blocks. Its like one of those puzzles with limited space. You leave space so the drive has room to move blocks around. With no room it has to do inefficient things to save and move files. The larger the over provisioning size the longer the drive is supposed to last but... you obviously lose that space.
its 100% worth going as big as you can. I just installed a samsung 8TB SSD and a Kingston KC3000 4TB nvme to the spare slot in the Acer Nitro 5, cant be bothered with a nas just yet so set up a windows raid to mirror a couple of partitions. Just need to upgrade the 32gb ram to 64gb ram which I heard can be done as bluestacks cracks up running apps like Tiktok
Thanks for the video. Can I add a 2TB M.2 slot, or is there a limit? Do I have to use special M.2 slots, or are they compatible with any brand, such as Samsung or Crucial...?
Brand doesn't matter but the length does. I think its standard 2280. Size of the storage shouldn't matter as well. Some people here have claimed there is a limit. I will look back at pictures. Desktop m.2 setups have multiple spots tp screw in different length ones. I believe there are two options. 2280 should be safe though.
Thanks for the video. I have two questions to ask but I plan on adding a 4 TB SSD once I order it online off Amazon but if I replace the 512 GB SSD with the 4 TB SSD will I lose all the stuff that I installed on the 512 GB SSD? Also it shows on my Acer Nitro 5 that there are available slots for 2 X SSD + 1 HDD so does that mean I can add a Gen 4 M.2 4 TB SSD without replacing the 512 GB SSD?
Hello. The motherboard on the acer nitro 5 has spots for 2 RAM sticks, 2 m.2 SSD's and 1 2.5" SATA storage device (can be HDD or SSD). If all you want to do is add the 4TB m.2 SSD then no need to clone and whatnot. If you remove your main boot drive yes you will want to back it up or clone it to another drive. If you really want to do that I suggest adding the second one that you want as your new main drive, then cloning it via samsung magician (called data migration) or similar software with a built in tool to actually clone the drive. Otherwise I feel like the best way to do that is create the windows install media (USB works fine) then get your second drive setup as a boot drive. Make sure it works to boot in to, then move all the files from the old boot drive to the new one. Then you can remove the smaller original one and replace with a larger one. Having a third USB drive is not a bad idea for something like that. You can move games and whatnot to that one then move over as needed. Hope this helps and good luck!
@@TritonTv69420 Sorry for the late reply but did you happen to have the links for where you ordered the M2 SSD and the SATA SSD? I just realized my Acer Nitro 5 is the AN515-55 as well which is why I ask

Hi, thanks for the clear instructions, before i install the m.2 drive, i notice that where the 2.5” SATA ssd goes, it was already installed by acer. So my concern is would that affect anything? Because ive got two 1 TB m.2’s and will install them into the laptop and dont want any problems.
Ok that means that is your boot drive. You won't have any issues but.... it would be faster to load the OS onto one of the m.2 drives. If you are up to it you might want to move your OS onto the m.2.
@@TritonTv69420 ahh thank you so much for the information. I probably would keep the os on my boot drive and wont fiddle around with things because im still a beginner and wouldnt want to mess up anything. Thank you so much for helping me out tho man! Defo subbing with the notis!
Hello! Great question. The battery on this computer, and most laptops, is connected by a ribbon cable that comes from the battery to the motherboard. Scrubbing through the video you can pause here 8:15 (edited stamp) and see the connector(s) from that battery to the motherboard near the top of the screen (near the RAM). If you have issues I can make an unlisted video (or maybe a listed video) for you and send you the link as a reply to this comment. I didn't have any issues but it's always the safest way when working on laptops. As long as the computer is shutdown for at least a few mins the residual electrical charge in the capacitors will dissipate. People caution others to do this because if you cause an electrical short while working on it you can damage components. Let me know if you find the cable! I believe it is just one. All ribbon cables have a little latch that holds them down. You will pop the latch up and carefully remove the cable. An easy test to see if you got the right cable is flipping the laptop over and pressing the power button you will know it was the battery cable if nothing happens. Make sure the AC adaptor is unplugged of course otherwise it could still power on.
i just upgraded mine with a 2TB SSD drive, and 2 x 2TB samsung NVME express drives.. reinstalled windows 11 which was hard as the device drivers were a bit of a chew on to install, but now i have a laptop with 6tb LOL my next job is to upgrade the memory
Nice! my suggestion is higher clock speed and 32GB just make sure the motherboard/bios allows. I don't know what speed this system will allow for RAM clock speeds. Good thing is laptop RAM isn't that expensive. Sounds like a fun upgrade. You can sell your old boot drive and old ram too to offset cost. Boom. What CPU did yours come with? I think mine was 10th gen i5. Also.... if you dont already have it, download and install samsung magician. Its a great software to manage their drives. Setup "over provisioning" with the recommended 10% free space. It will keep the drive running fast and smooth for a long time. My main drive is from july 2017 and still running strong with i want to say over 100TB written. Last suggestion... bookmark the asus webpage with the driver and bios downloads in case you need them in the future. It makes it easier if in like 2 years you forget where to find things.
Hi what do I need to do after I put an SSD in the laptop how do you install it on windows 11 or do you need to clone anything? Thanks so much my Acer Nitro 5 is AN 515-52
@@Power_C123 You can add as many drives as you want up to the two available slots. You can do either or at any time. The motherboard doesn't care. Hope that helps.

@@TritonTv69420 nope, it’s specifically my m.2 that’s causing the problem. Whenever I take it out it my computer loads up just fine. Whenever it’s inserted back in, it doesn’t load up. I can load up the BIOS and I see the M.2 in the information tab but it just won’t load up.
I know nothing of this stuff just new to it now, will I have to move everything onto a hard drive to save my stuff when upgrading the storage? Will I lose my files and such when upgrading? Thanks for the great video!
Hello! Thanks for watching and smashing the like button😉. Good question you aren't the first to ask this. It's a very common concern. You do not have to clone your drives or do anything special. All you are doing with this is ADDING storage. Make sure you SHUTDOWN your device and let it sit off for a few mins before ever doing anything with electronics. If you are super concerned, unplug the little ribbon cable connected to the battery. It's just like the cable i unplug and zoom in on for the sata drive, it has a little tab that holds the ribbon cable in place. You will not lose anything if you follow the steps I do. Just make sure you are formatting the new drives which will be very obvious in the disk manager. It will be the drives that are all black meaning unformatted space. Formatting tells windows that xxx space is available to use for files. Good luck have fun and take your time removing screws and popping the clips. Anytime you take apart electronics do not force anything. If it isn't coming off double check all screws are removed and slowly pry around the edge of case.
@@TritonTv69420 perfect thank you good sir, I shall give it a go! System has 512gb but I’d like to get 2 tb for videos and editing as well. It will make a huge difference.
Hey that is an excellent question! So in this instance I was simply adding a drive, so no cloning or new install needed. However, If i wanted to faster speeds of the samsung drive, I could have cloned the main boot drive to the faster drive (or fresh install). Then formatted the old drive to just be another extra storage device. Anytime you just add a drive AND as long as you don't reformat it, erasing the multiple partitions that are created during a fresh install, no extra steps needed. It's just plug new drive in and format it (tells windows or other OS, hey here is some free storage space, us it bro) then you can start using the new drive. When installing windows it typically makes 3 or 4 partitions on that drive. Other drives that aren't your boot drive typically only have 1 partition. Thanks for watching and hope this helps your understanding.
I bought a WD Black SSD for my Acer Nitro 5 but it won’t show up in Device Management, when I press F2 during boot up it stays that the drive is installed. I opened the computer back up to see if anything looked off and it looked just fine. What do I do?
hello! Take a deep breath Triton is here to help!! Go to this timestamp 10:00 and watch carefully how I format the drive. It isn't showing because it isn't formatted telling windows where the space is and how much is here. You are almost there!! You can also just type in computer management after left clicking the start menu to open it.
yea same instruction! you need to format the drive. You can open up the control panel then click system and security, then open the administrative tools, then double click on computer management. After that click on disk management on the left below storage. It should give you a pop up since windows will know you have a new drive not formatted. Follow instruction in video after 10:00!!!! You can also just copy and paste this into the file explorer address bar (windows + e) " Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools "then open computer management that way. or... you can type in computer management after left clicking on the start menu and open it that way.
@@TritonTv69420 FIXED THE PROBLEM, for some reason the drive was placed in the storage pool, therefore locking it from being used or seen in Disk Management. I removed it from the storage pool and then it finally appeared in Disk Management.
hello. The main benefit is added storage. If someone wanted faster boot and load times you could swap the main drive with the samsung drives! Thanks for watching.
Hello. Good question. I just wanted to show putting both in. You can do either or!! Feel free to ask questions and hope the video helps! SSD's are getting cheaper and cheaper 1TB is like 60usd right now!
Honestly from a hardware standpoint the motherboard doesn't care. I think windows has a limit of 256TB for a single drive initiated as NTFS (default) so basically put the largest size you can buy.
Hi! I've just installed two disks on a Nitro 5 and only one of them is showing in the BIOS, just like what happened to you at 9:30 . All disks show up in Windows though (which shouldn't be possible...). I'm curious, did you ever manage to make all the disks show up in the BIOS or does this BIOS just have a bug? Thanks.
Hello thanks for watching. I did get them to show up once I reseated the ribbon cable. Maybe just double check that. Perhaps it was connected a little weak and didn't show in bios then was detected after bios. hope that helps!
Its a good idea. They are only like 3-5$ links in description. You can get by without as long as you don't touch any metal contacts. There is no garentee that you don't have a charge though. Its up to you. If you get one you have it for any future electronics upgrades. Good luck!
Hey thanks for watching! you can always just add one drive as you wish. If you do add just one drive I would suggest the m.2 drive (plugs directly into motherboard without cable).
The battery? You shouldnt have to change battery. If you mean disconnect it thats a good idea to be extra cautious. Always make sure your computer is completely shutdown for at least 2 mins before doing any work on it.
I think you should switch slot the pre installed Nvme 500GB WD SN530 to the M.2 slot #2 and put your Samsung 980 to M.2 slot #1 then and install your Operating System in Samsung 980 since it is way more faster than the pre installed Nvme where your operating system was running. If you run your operating system in Samsung 980 you will have blazing speed laptop and a lightning boot speed. Sorry for my bad english.
It boots up in less than 10 seconds anyway so it never bothered me. Thanks for input. From what i saw the speeds weren't too much difference. Your english is great 😀

Hello, I recently just added the 980 SSD to my nitro 5 and it shows in the BIOS like in your video but I don’t see it in the disk management, how do I fix this? Thanks in advance!
You need to format it in windows. It won't have a name yet and the bar for showing partitions will be all black. You right click on it and create new simple volume. If it shows in bios it should be showing in disk management. It won't show in the file explorer (windows key + e) until its formatted. If its still not showing. Double check the ribbon cable is plugged all the way in, facing the right direction, and the latch is snapped down.
That shouldn't be a problem. From a hardware standpoint the motherboard doesn't care. Someone in the comments was claiming that is the max but i don't know of any limitations.
Hey this might sound stupid but I’m considering to buy the ssd 980 2tb as I only need 2 tb as it works out cheaper than buying two separate I’ve got the same laptop nitro an15-57 would it work or no? Thank you

I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-55WL and can't find the right m.2 ram for it. Can someone help! I've bought 3 from Crucial/Amazon and returned them all because after installing, I get the message " no bootable device. "
Hello. So first of all we need to get some terminology correct. There is no such thing as m.2 ram!!! m.2 is a form factor for SSD's (data storage). Ram is for Random Access Memory. This is not storage. It is volatile memory. Meaning it is gone when you power down the machine. I'm sure you are talking about the storage devices because this is what this video is about and your error suggests a few things. 1) you may have removed your original drive??? 2) you may not have formatted your new drive (again this would only not boot like usual if you removed your boot drive) 3) you changed the boot priority and deleted the main boot drive? I don't even think this is possible. check out these writeups and hope it helps!!!!! community.acer.com/en/discussion/541255/acer-nitro-5-an515-51-ram-upgrade www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/acer/nitro-5-an515-51 If your issue is just a formatting thing check out around this time stamp of how I format the drive... after installing a new drive you need to format the drive so that windows recognized the free space!!! watch from here 10:00 good luck!
Hey thanks for watching! check this timestamp 5:03. I believe they are m3 x 3 (I might be wrong on length) standard hdd screws. Make sure you are getting hardware for a 2.5" SSD or HDD. Those are standard sizes so any computer store should have them. Good luck!
I'm assuming you are talking about the SATA SSD. After looking at the footage a bit I think you can. As long as you get two screws in from the side (side that you can remove two vertical screws on) it should be secure in the bracket. Your main issue is you will have to attach the data and power cable before putting the SATA all the way down. So If you remove the two screws on the side that you can, then place the drive in the silver bracket and tighten those two down (while the drive is propped up with enough room to plug the power and data cable into the drive). Then plug the power and data cable into the drive, set the drive down all the way and tighten the vertically facing bolts of the silver bracket. The silver bracket thingy is very flexible so you should be able to bend it up with the drive on one side while the other side is still attached. I would try pushing harder with the driver before applying any torque to remove the bolt you might be able to break it loose unless it is just spinning. Electronics have threaded inserts and if the insert spins in where it is pressed in the bolt wont move. Hope this helps! **edit. Ok i suppose if you remove the battery you can plug the data and power cable into the drive after it is already all the way down. I think you got this. Worst case just set it in there and hot glue it haha
Sir, I want to ask, when you add a total of 2 TB of storage. No more settings needed?? because I read on the official Acer website there is an upgrade limit on the SSD slot, only 2TB in total with the factory default SSD
Hello thanks for watching! The only thing i needed to do was format the drives so windows could see them. Even if you add larger capacity drives there still shouldn't be any other steps. The website might be saying that 2TB is the most you can get from the factory? That's my guess.
@@TritonTv69420 Yes, on the Acer Indonesia website and I also asked the admin directly. The maximum limit for SSD upgrades is only 2TB in total. I haven't tried it either because I'm unsure, if I buy a large capacity later it can't be used. That's why I'm trying to ask you because you have already upgraded with a total storage of 2.5 TB
Hmm there shouldn't really be a max limit. Windows doesn't care, neither does the motherboard. Ram is limited by windows though. I wonder why they are saying that? My laptop works fine and it shouldn't be an issue to put in a 2TB m.2SSD and say a 8TB HDD.
@@TritonTv69420 Yes, I agree with your opinion. I also know that. The reason I ask is that I have encountered problems several times with my group, there were problems when upgrading a ssd with a total of more than 2TB and by seeing your video and asking you enough to convince me to upgrade and I am very grateful to you for taking the time to answer my question.
Yes when you add drives it won't affect your files in the other drive. Just make sure when you format the new drive that you are formatting the right drive. 😀 Also before taking apart your laptop make sure it is fully shutdown. Let it sit for a few mins too.
O i see what you are saying. It should be m key. I believe that is standard. I have never had to double check and that is the key type of all my m.2 ssd's on my desktop and laptop. Thanks for watching hope that helps!

Hello. You can buy Samsung and other SSD storage devices on amazon, other major retailers or any local computer store such as a best buy. If outside the US look for other local computer retail stores. Good luck on the upgrade! Its an easy one to do. 😀 thanks for watching. You can also get other brands like western digital or seagate. Im currently adding ssd m.2 2tb. My unit cant read the 2tb if the stock was installed. The 2tb will be detect only if the stock was removed. Can you give some advice on what to do or there are limits on both slot? 1tb each? Thank you in advance for response.
There shouldn't be any limits as far as i know. What do you mean stock? You will need to format it like shown in the video (i think around 10:00) for windows to recognize the device. If it isnt showing in BIOS try re seating the ribbon cable for the SATA drive or for the m.2 make sure its plugged in all the way. Make sure device is shut down all the way for a few mins before unplugging or plugging anything in. *maybe you mean the stock main drive?
I have a question, after putting SSD cards in the laptop do I need to install Windows again or is it just like adding RAM, you just turn it on and it's good to go?
Hello! good question. So watch carefully towards the end of the video (around 10:00) when I format the drive. In order for windows to recognize it, it needs to be formatted. In this video i left the main boot drive in (m.2 512GB western digital ssd) so i didn't have to reinstall windows. As long as you are just adding one or both drives as shown you can just plug in and format and go. If for some reason you do want to also replace the main boot drive, then and only then, will you have to reinstall windows. Total there are 2 m.2 slots (1 empty, 1 main boot from factory) and 1 2.5" SATA slot on this motherboard. Hope that helps i will check this comment to see if you have any more questions.

Hey mate not sure if you can answer but can you switch out the original 512mb drive for the 1tb evo and then add another 1tb both nvme pcie 4 and then get pcie 4 speeds?
Hello! I believe so. I would have to read up on it. I will see if i can find out. I'm pretty sure you would have full speeds. That would be a huge development oversight.
so i know little to nothing ab computers and i bought the WD Blue SA 510 1TB SSD and it came without a cable or screws.. any idea on which i should buy?
Ok so i have a few questions for you. 1) do you have this same* laptop? ( they make a bunch of different versions but the nitro laptop) 2) what is the physical size of the drive? If it is 2.7" wide and almost 4 inches long it is the SATA drive. If its about 0.75" wide and about 2" long it plugs directly into the motherboard and only needs one screw. See other replies below.
www.acer.com/us-en If in US use this link and contact support. Find your exact model number. Type in sytem information after clicking the start menu. You will see the system model number. Mine is (Nitro AN515-55) Give them that and ask what cable you need. First confirm if its the sata drive. The m.2 drive plugs directly into the board. You will be able to tell between the two based on size. I show plugging both types in. If it is the m.2 you can get those screws by typing in m.2 screw for ssd drive into amazon or similar retailer. They are metric 3mm screws i think.
Hello good question. There are a few different types of computer data storage devices. Technology has evolved a lot since the invention of the transistor in the late 1940's. Traditionally when home computers where readily available and you had the storage capacity up to around 1 Gigabyte of data the most popular storage technology was Hard Disk Drives or HDD's. These devices required a spinning metal disk(s) to be magnetized very locally with an arm that could read this magnetization as well as magnetize the metal disk. The limitation of this tech is the speed at which the disk rotates as well as how fast the arm could move in and out of the radius of the disk as well as how fast it can read the localized magnetization. In the 2000's and 2010's Solid State Drives or SSD's became more mainstream and economically viable. Instead of spinning a disk they stored the bits on very small (microscopically small) memory cells stacked in certain arrays. This changed the game as the devices no longer required moving parts to store energy. There have been many different form factors and SSD's come in many different types as far as how they send data to the CPU. There are internal SSD's that use the SATA interface which is typically limited to 6GB/s of data transfer. There are usb sticks that use the USB interface and depending on the generation can transfer data from 12Mbps up to 40Gbps. Then the most current iteration are the m.2 SSD drives. The SATA SSD used in this video is just a device to store data (pictures, video, music, software, games, ect) which has a capacity of 500GB of data. The transfer rate maximum would be about 520-550MB/s which is not near as fast as the newer m.2 SSD's which plug directly into the motherboard above the BUS. Which is where the data is being shared between all the computer components. The m.2 storage device in this video has a max read and right or around 3000-3500MB/s. So the TLDR is the SATA SSD stores up to 500GB of data and I'm able to access the data at around 1/2 GB/s. If you want to learn more about SSD's I suggest this amazing video. This yt channel will teach you everything you need to know about computers! Thanks for stopping by. th-cam.com/video/5Mh3o886qpg/w-d-xo.html

hmm the 980 pro uses the m.2 pcie protocol. I showed how the m.2 SSD and the SATA ones were both connected. Are you using some adapter from m.2 to SATA?
your boot priority list must have been changed. Did you remove the main drive that was in before this? Did you format the drives as shown? I would double check everything is plugged in after a full shutdown and waiting at least a few mins. Find the boot priority list when pressing f2 on startup. Make sure that wasnt changed and put the drive that was on the device up there first.
Only if that was on your main boot drive and that was the max capacity. SSD's are so good nowadays that as long as there is enough room to move files around and for updates they still run well. Thanks for watching!

PS
The Acer video suggested disconnecting the battery before proceeding, I didn't, like you, and like you had no issues.
What lamp/bulb is that in your room? Rather comfy & cozy.
Haha. I wish i kept it! That was 2 places ago. It was there when i got there. It was super cool
its 100% worth going as big as you can.
@TritonTv69420 Thank you very much
of course hopefully it all works out. Make sure to format new drive/s and update firmware. If you get samsung drives download samsung magician.
Also make sure you disconnect the battery....
Ya, that should have been done first.

How do I unplug the battery

If it isn't coming off double check all screws are removed and slowly pry around the edge of case.

for sure no worries hope the install goes well. the screw doesn't need to be super tight. just enough to keep the drive in place. 😀
Pardon my ignorance, but does this require cloning/new windows install, or does this act as an addition to the existing drive?

Hey! Can you tell me what is the maximum storage for each m.2 slot and that extra sata 2.5 inch hdd slot?

All disks show up in Windows though (which shouldn't be possible...). I'm curious, did you ever manage to make all the disks show up in the BIOS or does this BIOS just have a bug? Thanks.

Hey thanks for watching! you can always just add one drive as you wish. If you do add just one drive I would suggest the m.2 drive (plugs directly into motherboard without cable).
Should I change Battery If I would update it to 2TB?

@@TritonTv69420 thank you so much for the reply, the problem was indeed the ribbon cable not being plugged in properly XD

Check to make sure everything is plugged in properly. You have to format the drives. I believe its around the 10:15 mark.
2) you may not have formatted your new drive (again this would only not boot like usual if you removed your boot drive)
3) you changed the boot priority and deleted the main boot drive? I don't even think this is possible.
check out these writeups and hope it helps!!!!!

My HDD upgrade cable didnt come with any screws could someone tell me what size the screws are so that i can buy them
Hey thanks for watching! check this timestamp 5:03. I believe they are m3 x 3 (I might be wrong on length) standard hdd screws. Make sure you are getting hardware for a 2.5" SSD or HDD. Those are standard sizes so any computer store should have them. Good luck!
Do you think it would be possible to install it without removing the silver part?(1 screw genuinely won’t come undone)

Hello. You can buy Samsung and other SSD storage devices on amazon, other major retailers or any local computer store such as a best buy.
@@TritonTv69420 Yeah because I have upgraded my RAM from 8 to 16 and am looking for upgrading my storage which is only 256GB ssd (I have the 2020 version but the inside available component are the same). 1) do you have this same* laptop? ( they make a bunch of different versions but the nitro laptop)
2) what is the physical size of the drive? If it is 2.7" wide and almost 4 inches long it is the SATA drive. If its about 0.75" wide and about 2" long it plugs directly into the motherboard and only needs one screw. See other replies below.

If in US use this link and contact support.

PK37A00J410COE31017100073T6
These might be different based on the model of the pc.
what does the sata ssd do? what benefits does it provide?
