Thanks for the list as it’ll help me inventory what I still need for my own personal physical collection!!! With a quick glance, there is a small amount of games listed that I know I do not own physically.
Thanks for the list. Just as a reminder: all three Spyro remakes are only on the disc in the collection together with Crash Team Racing. At least as far as I know.
In South America, we got a very special God Of War release called "God Of War Omega", which includes both compilations (PS2/PSP) on two discs inside a steelbook. It's technically a compilation of compilations! It also included a box with illustrations and a very nice, hand numbered sculpture of Kratos, made by a very famous artist.
@@xmaverickhunterkx I've been doing a God Of War platinum marathon during the last two weeks and finally played the games from that Omega compilation. I had forgotten God Of War 3 is also included, so the whole Greek saga is actually included (3 discs).
On PS5 theres: - Hitman: World of Assassinations - Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves - MGS: Master Collection Vol.1 - Ninja Gaiden Master Collection - Mega Man Legacy Collection
I've been playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters recently and I would absolutely love it if we could get a Phantasy Star Pixel Remaster collection in a similar manner done by someone like M2.
11:41 and let's not forget so many companies throw out their source code thinking that they don't need it anymore or don't store it properly. That goes for both Spyro and the Silent Hill games that had to be recompiled in strange ways to make it as jumbled as it is. At least for Spyro they had the use of an emulator and had a program to easily help them manage how enemies and objects were placed in the world to help them out
I’ve always had a theory that a game’s source code was theoretically hidden within the game itself. You just have to reverse engineer it, it just takes a really long time. Take FF8 for instance. It was reverse engineered for its “remaster”. I think Kingdom Hearts 1 was programmed from the ground up for its remaster because the source code for that one was lost from what I’ve heard, correct me if I’m wrong.
I always love when a new video showing off HD & Compilations are highlighted, I hope they’ll be a part 3, you guys did an excellent job as always! ❤❤ 10:20 I managed to play both versions of Sly 1 for both PS3 & PS4/5 & there were a few details left out that’s worth mentioning about if others are looking to find the PS3 version. The Sly games are notorious for not emulating well to this very day, so it comes as no surprise that the PS3 version has visual & audio bugs; such as incorrect shadows & audio de-synced with dialogue from Inspector Carmelita in the intro stage as an example. Not to mention that for some reason, they decided to re-record the soundtrack for Sly 1, which is fine; but it also leads to some problems like the Ms. Ruby boss fight to not work properly, making it harder than it needed to be. There’s also cut content of the developer commentary tracks when beating the time trials on missions. But all these hiccups are nitpicks, as the game itself runs just fine on PS3. Heck, I even got the platinum for all 3 games & throughly enjoyed my time with it, not noticing the bugs. While not the best looking for motion blur & less than ideal resolution, I’d personally recommend the PS5 port as you can adjust the camera control by remapping your controller & you get a little bit more content that the original game developers intended to be there & no audio or visual issues. 11:07 I think it’s worth mentioning that the myriad of graphical & audio bugs present in the Silent Hill HD Collection was because of the fact that Konami lost the source code to both games; as well as trying to find new voice actors for re-dubbing because of not wanting to pay royalties to the original actors. It was simply rushed & under-developed because of the unfinished code they were handed. But this collection serves as a powerful reminder that video game preservation is key to keep historical context alive as ports are made for newer hardware. 18:53 Another one with a bit more detail I figured out after playing Super Mario 3D All-Stars myself is that all 3 games had to been not only been ported; but essentially changed essential code for it to run on Switch hardware. Some examples off the top of my head is Mario 64 being the Shindou version that’s been translated into English, which included rumble, more voice acting from Mario & bug fixes. Though some argue that the bugs like the famous long jump backwards stairs glitch used for speedruns are iconic & shouldn’t have been taken away. But a nice thing to note is that the NSO version is the original North American Release, so all the glitches & skips are intact in that version. Super Mario Sunshine had to have the game’s pressure sensitive triggers changed to 2 different pressure triggers for Joycon controllers, along with it based off the PAL region of the game, which include bug fixes. They also cut / edited voice lines to compensate for the new controls. (Luckily, after some patches, they added back in Gamecube & N64 controller support, so they can re-instated the original control style) Finally, Super Mario Galaxy is actually based off the Chinese Nvidia Shield that produced HD ports of several Wii games, so they managed to use that as the base of the controls & overall graphical fidelity.
@@ModelJames13Totally! I’m quite curious to know how they think of the Sonic Origins Collection, along with the modding scene for Sonic games fixing all of its issues emulating the games properly. Not to mention all the Mega Man collections having several bonus materials not found in other versions, like arcade game ports or even documentary videos! ❤️💙
Woah, I had no idea they added a unique Luigi sprite and physics to the All-Stars + World combo cart. That sounds pretty entertaining. I'll have to give it a try soon. Another one I've been enjoying more is the Arcade Party Pack on PS1 (I think mentioned in the previous compilation episode). You can put Smash T.V. into 240p and when upscaled via a RetroTINK 5X, it fits the edges of the screen perfectly and looks gorgeous. On a CRT it goes well into the overscan area for some reason and looks weird, so you're typically stuck playing in 480i instead which doesn't feel as responsive.
[Try4ce] The physics are the same on SNES, but Luigi does play differently on GBA. His sprite there is different from the All-Stars + World sprite too.
All those compilations locked in the PS3 prison are a big reason why I want to pick up a PS3. Why they were never ported to the PS4 is a frustrating mystery.
Because porting anything that was a PS3 game is nearly impossible, it doesn't even use the same coding languages as EVERY OTHER CONSOLE & PC ever made. Games from that generation that get remakes usually use the PC or 360 version to start, and just change the button prompts to the PS icons when they convert them to PS4/5. It's why I still have two PS3's in my set-up, one set to 720p and hooked up to my 75" TV through an MClassic to play at 1440p with an integer scale, and one set to 1080p and connected to my 3DTV for the 3D versions of games and 3D Blu-Rays.
@@casualcadaver Because a lot of those games don't work very well on PS3 emulators yet, and are a way better experience on real hardware still. And the PC you need to run it at 4K costs about $3,000 unless you fake an "I can build a PC better than a PS5 for $500" video on here, and they already have a motherboard, and a PSU, and a monitor, and a gaming keyboard and mouse, and a friend to do a fake E-bay auction where the buy a used 4060 for $32 to pretend high level PCs aren't way too expensive. 80% of what the Steam survey says PC users have, would struggle to upscale the PS3 720p to 1080p with frame skip on. With the games that work well. I know what PCs are and how emulators work. But. If you've already got a PS3 and tons of games, there's no way you're getting real hardware level performance on every game in any emulator no matter your PC specs, at 1440p, in HDMI 2.0 colour space (I have an LG TV, they use the same algorithm for HDR injection that X-box use on Series consoles, so it looks awesome) and with extra AA, for EVERY game on the system, by only spending £106, some other way. And have the same little dongle that does the same for every other console I have that I can get HDMI out of. Which is technically all of them at this point. I have a loss less de-interlacer and line doubler for 240p (It was built into a SONY surround sound system that came with their super expensive $8,000+ posh people TVs they sold in Selfridges for home cinemas back in the day, and it turns component, composite and S-VHS into HDMI 480p too, best £70 I ever spent on E-bay, the surround sound is awesome SONY make good audio tech and this was high-end user audio tech from back in the day) so every console gets 1440p, looks awesome in fake HDR, makes every game progressive scan, and all with real hardware, real controllers and other accessories, playing the original games. I even ran an Atari 800 XLE through it not long ago with yellow and white mono component, it was kind of hugely pointless, but hey, I got to play Zybex at 1440p in fake 12 speaker + 1 subwoofer surround sound, on a 75" inch TV, with HDR. I'm a little gutted my 48K+ only has Rf out, or I'd be doing it with Spectrum games, even if it was just once to see it like that. For £176 total, including a bad ass home cinema surround sound system thrown in as well, I might use pounds but I got more bang for my buck out of that than anyone building a $190 PC ever did. And don't get me started on setting a Series X to 720p for back compat games (and those original Xbone 900p games, downsampled to 720p so extra AA before the upscale starts) and FPS boost games that loose their 4K features at 60fps. 1440p, locked 60, Sonic unleashed with no massive emulator hangs anyone? Same for GTA4 and that Gay Tony thing? Both versions of Forza Horizon 2 @ 1440p, DOA4 and 5 as well (the others are already 4K 60 on Series X, native for 6, back compat boosted for 1, 2 and 3), damn I started already, I better stop before I get to all the F.E.A.R. games at locked 1440p 60, or Ridge Racer 6, or Forza 6 (the last one everyone liked) or hell even the old Forza motorsport 3&4, and Project Gotham games that aren't back compat on the actual 360.
@@casualcadaver 3D is far more interesting and immersive than 4k. If you set the PS3 display size to 10" in the XMB, you fix the underwhelming 3D in PS3 games. Of the 3D games mentioned here, only ratchet and clank collection has bad 3D. The others are awesome. RPCS3 can also output 3D SBS if your PC can handle it.
Best way to end the month and the best way to start a Saturday evening watching a new Mlig video ! Thanks for the upload always the best retro game related channel and content
Now when HD Retrovision announced their soon to be released Dreamcast component cable could you guys please make a video on Dreamcast and its different ways to hook it up. It’s such a weird console when it comes to video cables. Thanks!
[Try4ce] He was supposed to be at the Southeast Game Exchange in early July but he had to cancel. Paul Eiding was there though, got to talk to him very briefly.
The Castlevania Dominus collection recently released, and my current debate with myself is "PS5 for 4k, Switch for portability and Touch Screen" and my big thing was "which one has better layouts for integer scale?" While it was immediately shadowdropped a few days ago and not in this video, I'm very glad to be reminded this channel exists for all else. I wouldn't even be debating this concept if I wasn't introduced to it from here lol.
15:20 In addition to this Tales of Symphonia Collection, in the German Speaking countries of Europe (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) there was also "Tales of Graces F + Tales of Symphonia Chronicles" that gives you 3 games on a single disc.
ZOE2 HD on Xbox One BC has a ton of improvements that weren't mentioned. Performance: The patched version runs closer to 60 frames per second Image quality: The output resolution is 1080p with higher resolution HUD, text, and menu elements Visual effects: Textures are cleaned up and corrected to match the PS2 release Depth of field: Depth of field is rendered at a higher resolution using modern techniques
Rayforce does not use polygons at all, it is 100% 2D elements cleverly manipulated for achieving some amazing 3D looking effects. Use of these techniques granted a signature look to some games on the Taito F3 hardware.
SM All Stars was the first way I played any Mario games as a Sega kid. My parents would go over their friend’s house and the mom had a SNES from when her kid would visit, so I’d sit on that for hours
PS3 had other really cool disc compilations such as Borderlands Triple Pack, CoD MW Trilogy, Darksiders Collection, DmC HD Collection, Splinter Cell Trilogy and Tomb Raider Trilogy. Great video nonetheless.
Worth noting that those Thunder Force Gold collections on Saturn have really compressed audio, they sound quite poor compared to the MD / Gen originals.
So, with the Tales of Symphonia Collection, the reason why they kept the PS3 version down at 30fps instead of the 60fps of the GCN version is because it's based on the PS2 version of the game, which was locked at 30fps. People have tried bumping it and the later ports (like the Steam version) up to 60fps, and it seems the physics are tied to the frame rate, so... it does bad things. ToS Collection is still personally my favorite way to experience both Symphonia games, however, even with the lock to 30fps. The extra content is worth it, imo, though it might not be for everyone. Here's hoping with the Remaster Project Bamco is doing, we might get Chronicles on modern platforms!
[Try4ce] I've generally never been a huge fan of content added to RPGs after the fact, and while I don't know about this content, to me it would make sense to just go back to the original code!
@@mylifeingaming It's also possible they didn't have the GCN code, but I don't have any evidence to that! Could've been deals with Nintendo, too, but no way to know that either, unfortunately.
"Asia" releases usually cover Hong Kong (maybe not anymore) and thus are more likely to also have the English translation. They're also usually cheaper than the Japanese release.
Really fun video to watch, appreciate the section towards the end as I’ve been getting a few more things from playasia. Try, I hope you do get into Etrian Odyssey this time, as it’s one of my favorite dungeon crawlers of all time! 😀
I know you guys have played around with an MClassic before, and didn't really like the difference it made. But you (and Digital Foundry) didn't do it right You can get adaptors for like $6 or $7 that make the device work at 1440p with any TV/projector with a 1440p mode (most 1440p modes on TVs are only for 120hz and don't usually support 60hz at 1440p, so you only get 1080p, this adaptor makes it work at 1440p 60 instead), and having your console output 720p gives you a 4x integer scale, and 480p consoles have a 6x integer scale, and with the anti aliasing it makes 360 and PS3 games look amazing. Those PS3 remake collections look like another step up remake wise than they do now though an MClassic. 1440p 60fps God of War remakes, with Anti-aliasing and better colour curve compatibility with modern TVs, yes please. (Leaving your console set to 1080p, or not using the adaptor and upscaling 720p output to 1080p, looks awful because of the lack of integer scale. IF your TV has a 1440p mode, it's made to look good on the 4K screen.) And for none X-enhanced back compat titles (360 games that are still 720p), FPS boost games that turns the 4K enhancements off, or original xbone 900p games on a Series X, set to 720p output (so down-sampling with extra AA for the 900p games, and then an integer scale and even more AA with the MClassic) lets you play GTA4, Sonic racing Transformed, and Sonic Unleashed at 1440p locked 60, with that extra AAA, and makes stuff like Split/Second and Burnout 4, that are back compat but never got a res upgrade, look amazing. No matter what you do though, it's terrible with 2D games, it's only good for old polygon games on the older consoles (full 3D and 2.5D like Streetfighter 4 etc...) I mean, when you add that $6 adaptor on to the cost of the MClassic, so you're guaranteed to get 1440p, it does mean it's only $646 cheaper than a retrotink 4K now, and because of the extra AA and colour curve alterations, it is actually WAY better for 3D and 2.5D games. But yeah, it's still not gonna upscale Mario 3 as well as a retrotink, but that's why God invented scanline and lottes shaders on retroarch, older 2D console games are more like CRT through emulators with shaders, than through upscalers without them anyway.
You know what's a weird little footnote? The Donkey Kong Classics combo cart on NES. On the face of it, fine, it's another game with multiple NES ROMs and a selection menu right? Not exactly. For whatever reason, instead of doing that, they truly combined them into one ROM with a singular title screen with left and right to select which game and up and down selection the modes, alternating between the two game's title theme songs and even going into demo modes by swapping back and forth between the two. It's an odd thing for Nintendo to do for these games. But, what really confuses me is that for all the work they did for sheer presentation's sake, they didn't take advantage of the expanded ROM space to add in the factory level that was missing from Donkey Kong's original NES version. No updated features at all.
The Entrain Odyssey collection might be my favorite collection of resent years. Especially, considering how expensive part 2 and 3 can be these days in great condition. Hopefully Konami doesn't mess up Vol. 2 of the MGS collection. And seeing remakes of Metroid Prime part 2 and 3, and getting all three titles in a sweet collection (again) would be pretty sweet. 😅 Still dreaming of that to happen.
36:15 The Special Support screen with "Thank you for your support!", I wondered if there was untranslated text. Using Google Translate the middle text says "Alpha System Co., Ltd." Weird that they left it like that in the English version!
The UBISOFT Collection with Beyond Good & Evil HD is still my favorite find I ever had in a Retro Store as I had no idea that compilation even existed. And yes, BG&E HD is worth it. The new remaster is nice, but it also makes some stuff a bit too real and the HD version is much closer to the original, more cartooney style (no real animal skin on this Uncle Peij) while still offering higher resolutions as the old and even the PC version.
47:27 Most Japanese Nintendo published games actually use a universal SKU, I feel like something like Famicom Detective Club might be an exception because of issues related to voice actor royalties. Definitely seems like the exception rather than the rule in my experience.
[Try4ce] Perhaps I should've looked more into this. There's so little reason to import Nintendo published games though, so yeah, the one that actually would be useful to import being an exception gave me that impression and I perhaps over-assumed it as the norm.
[Try4ce] Yikes! Not surprising though. It's just the same ROM as-is. It even says 1993 on the title screen and has SNES buttons on the screen when choosing a game. They probably did the PAL version just so it would have the PAL colored buttons.
>Ratchet & Clank collection >occasional graphical glitches aside Shows that you never played the originals (as you admitted). Those glitches are not "occasional", those are deal breaking.
[Try4ce] Coury was hoping I could do Cosmic Fantasy and Valis together but my Cosmic Fantasy hasn't been delivered yet. I'm expecting a similar situation though to the Valis games, which would be way worse with an RPG, having the English just in another box elsewhere on the screen.
The Sly Cooper Collection is great, but it is worth noting that the Mz. Ruby boss fight in the first game was ruined. It's a rhythm-based boss that was a lot of fun in the PS2 version, but is out-of-sync in the collection, making it very frustrating. Other than that the remaster was very well-done, but I thought that was worth mentioning.
Very cool stuff. The lack of M.U.S.H.A. may have been a low key reference to Classic Game Room. I feel like Mark is still reviewing everything in the intergalactic space arcade. Maybe reach out to him
I'm among those that would also appreciate US releases of the remaining Toaplan Arcade Garage volumes. Especially since I really haven't figured out a way to get JP DLC. The PCE CD versions of Hellfire and Zero Wing are definitely worth a goaround
PS3 seems to be trending on my feed. Just pulled out my fat backwards compatible model and installed webman and a ton of other packages and wow, so much development going on for this system.
12:20 Peace Walker is an absolutely criminally underrated game, and one of the best MGS titles around. It's the "true" MGS5 game, and unlike its next-gen copycat sequel, it's a properly finished game.
38:26 Surprisingly enough, the Valis games all being in Japanese, is actually a blessing in disguise since the American version of Valis 3 (Genesis and PC-Engine) cut content compared to their Japanese versions, also Super Valis 4 is also easier on the Japanese version as well (as that game doubled your damage and halved the damage you gave to enemies in the American version only, it also made Easy Mode a cheat code in that version only), the rest of the games that weren’t American versions, were only released in Japan anyways (spoilers, those are half of these collections). Look, bro, at least these alternate versions are different experiences and at least kinda justify existing, vs some other collections I can name which just have multiple ports of the exact same games which basically play the same but they had to bloat those numbers anyways. Edia literally offered these collections on Japanese crowdfunding sites at the time, gauge people’s interest in these, since they exist, proves people were ultimately interested, fun fact, the 3rd collection actually contains the 3 part old school Famicom Valis commercial complete with anime segment directed by Hideki Anno of Eva fame, it even includes an old Super Valis 4 commercial of the time as well. I get it, these collections aren’t for ya and I understand that, at the same time, I can’t cut all the slack either on slandering some pretty good games (including the Home computer version (MSX2 in this case) of Valis 2, which was a much different beast compared to the PC-Engine version.
Unless I missed it Coury , why no mention of R-Gear, the cancelled sequel of RayForce on the Ray’z Arcade Chronology disc (which imho was the only reason for waiting two years for Strictly Limited's release)?
Love seeing Coury reppin the Video Game History Foundation. @ everyone who sees this, please go check them out! They do insanely good work preserving games, gamedev history, magazines, all kinds of stuff.
13:05: I'd argue it's not as huge of an issue on PS3 as it is on 360 since the PS1 game disc can be played on all PS3 systems, but xbox 360 owners don't have a way to play the game on their console.
Imagine playing Jak and Daxter and never playing 2 and 3. Jak 2 and 3 were a quantum leap in quality. One of my absolute favorite games on the PS2. And I'm not even that big of a fan of platformers! That's prolly because they incorporated a large open world, vehicals, a great story, and even racing and dune buggy exploration and resource gathering. I consider Jak 2 was when naughty dog became the developer we know today.
[Try4ce] I think there are a ton of people like us who stopped after the first one. The change in tone was really jarring and seemed so much like they were just chasing trends of making the characters edgy. I'm ready to give it a chance now but at the time the shift was a huge disappointment.
You can switch the camera in the ps2 port of jack and dexter. U habe to push a combo and u dont get a confirmation. I forgot what it was but it is easy to google Edit: go to the grafics menu: hold up on the d pad and click R3
I hated when developers said that they "wanted" to keep the FPS at 30 to "preserve the cinematic experience". That's just BS corporate talk for: 1. The console is too weak to run the game at 60fps. 2. They're not skilled enough programmers to make the necessary optimizations to improve the framerate. 3. They're just lazy.
I would NOT recommend Sly HD Collection to newcomers, it has plenty of bugs across all three games on top of half-assery going on with 4:3 assets displayed in 16:9. That PS2 emulated Sly 1 (and PCSX2 for the other two) isn't a bad compromise at all compared to that.
[Try4ce] I used to be all for inverted X and Y for camera control, but starting with the PS3 generation, when third person shooting was kind of refined, the line between aiming controls and camera controls became blurred. Aiming, to me, makes more sense with mouse-like directions (up is up, right is right). But I was having a hard time with games like Uncharted and inFamous, where camera controls kinda overlap with shooting from the hip. I realized this was the direction game controls were going, and decided to just get used to it non-inverted camera. I used to be a big proponent of it, because inverted X and Y is how you push the stick on a tripod. Just made sense. But the growing overlap of camera and aiming controls just made it difficult to reconcile the two together, for me. It can be hard to go back to how things are in the PS2 era now, although GameCube and N64 controllers tend to automatically put my brain into "back in the day" mode and muscle memory takes over and I can deal with inversion pretty easily on those systems.
@@mylifeingaming Thanks for replying! I totally get where you're coming from. As a fellow tripod user, inverted Y-Axis makes sense to me. But my first inverted game was also Star Fox 64. That and the inverted cannon controls in Mario 64 really cemented the inverted Y-Axis in my head. However, I prefer regular X-Axis controls where left is left and right is right. Having them reversed is just way too confusing for me. It trips me up when I go back to Mario 64 and C left and right do the opposite of what I'm used to.
[Try4ce] Yeah I'm pretty sure it's X axis inversion that trips up people more than Y axis. It was really common in that generation though, with no option to change it.
Maybe you haven't played it but I would push back hard on Peace Walker not being a big loss. Peace Walker is essentially a proto-MGS5 and is one of the best playing games in the series and has a fantastic story. 100% not a game to skip just because it was originally a PSP game (the other MGS PSP game is absolutely fine to skip though, plays like garbage)
[Try4ce] I don't think Coury was saying he didn't like it, but he was saying some may say it's not a big loss. I like it as well. The story didn't make an impression, but the game was fun and I remember particularly enjoying the boss fights even though they're mostly big robots and not more imaginative characters like the other games. I enjoyed it a whole lot more than MGSV.

I though the same thing lol
i did the same haha
Yup me too
We need a compilation episode of episodes compiling game compilations.
I also thought the same lol.
In the end wasn't there a full collection in one disc released globally? I remember seeing it bundled with the PS3 super slim.
@@xmaverickhunterkx I've been doing a God Of War platinum marathon during the last two weeks and finally played the games from that Omega compilation. I had forgotten God Of War 3 is also included, so the whole Greek saga is actually included (3 discs).
On PS5 theres:
- Hitman: World of Assassinations
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves
- MGS: Master Collection Vol.1
- Ninja Gaiden Master Collection
- Mega Man Legacy Collection
I gave this video a like for the sole reason of introducing me to some new retro games. Great video guys!
I've been playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters recently and I would absolutely love it if we could get a Phantasy Star Pixel Remaster collection in a similar manner done by someone like M2.
The downgrade from 60 to 30 on Symphonia might be because the remaster was based on the PS2 version (which was JP only).
11:41 and let's not forget so many companies throw out their source code thinking that they don't need it anymore or don't store it properly. That goes for both Spyro and the Silent Hill games that had to be recompiled in strange ways to make it as jumbled as it is. At least for Spyro they had the use of an emulator and had a program to easily help them manage how enemies and objects were placed in the world to help them out
didnt bluepoint state back then that they didnt even need the source code for these remasters? ivaguely remember something to that effect
@@zexalsrevenge511 in Kingdom Hearts' case they used a reverse engineered a retail copy I believe
It really is amazing. How hard is it to throw your source code on some thumb drives and hard drives? 😎
I always love when a new video showing off HD & Compilations are highlighted, I hope they’ll be a part 3, you guys did an excellent job as always! ❤❤
10:20 I managed to play both versions of Sly 1 for both PS3 & PS4/5 & there were a few details left out that’s worth mentioning about if others are looking to find the PS3 version.
(Luckily, after some patches, they added back in Gamecube & N64 controller support, so they can re-instated the original control style)
Finally, Super Mario Galaxy is actually based off the Chinese Nvidia Shield that produced HD ports of several Wii games, so they managed to use that as the base of the controls & overall graphical fidelity.
There's gotta be a part 3+. We have a lot of Mega Man and Sonic compilations to get through. 😎
Always fantastic videos, the info about the PS3 HD versions being best is very helpful to me personally.
Haha the shmup joke was the highlight of the video for me. I literally laughed out loud.
The 3D is cool but why not just play PS3 at 4K on PC?
Quite a lot of those compilations have bugs and glitches that make them worse versions.
Best way to end the month and the best way to start a Saturday evening watching a new Mlig video ! Thanks for the upload always the best retro game related channel and content
Compilation time games galore blessed to see and have all from 1980-Now what a life of gaming throughout the decades/generations
We need some “Try Approved” stickers added to the merch store!
Now when HD Retrovision announced their soon to be released Dreamcast component cable could you guys please make a video on Dreamcast and its different ways to hook it up. It’s such a weird console when it comes to video cables.
Thanks!
I love multi-game compilations! I just beat Langrisser I last night from the Langrisser I & II compilation. 😎
I actually got my MGS Collection autographed by David Hayter in June!
[Try4ce] He was supposed to be at the Southeast Game Exchange in early July but he had to cancel. Paul Eiding was there though, got to talk to him very briefly.
The Castlevania Dominus collection recently released, and my current debate with myself is "PS5 for 4k, Switch for portability and Touch Screen" and my big thing was "which one has better layouts for integer scale?"
While it was immediately shadowdropped a few days ago and not in this video, I'm very glad to be reminded this channel exists for all else. I wouldn't even be debating this concept if I wasn't introduced to it from here lol.
It's too bad Konami screwed over the PS4.
The Switch for me. That way I can just move it forward to their next console.
@@littleguystar with ps4 you can use the touch bad as a touch screen so it’s probably better than switch touch screen if anything
I’m a recent sub, but yall are quickly becoming my fav gaming channel. Awesome content.
15:20 In addition to this Tales of Symphonia Collection, in the German Speaking countries of Europe (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) there was also "Tales of Graces F + Tales of Symphonia Chronicles" that gives you 3 games on a single disc.
Nothing is better than seeing a new mlig drop in your feed
ZOE2 HD on Xbox One BC has a ton of improvements that weren't mentioned.
Performance: The patched version runs closer to 60 frames per second
Image quality: The output resolution is 1080p with higher resolution HUD, text, and menu elements
Visual effects: Textures are cleaned up and corrected to match the PS2 release
Depth of field: Depth of field is rendered at a higher resolution using modern techniques
Great video! Love that you started with PS3 and gave good insights on why I’d want each.
If only SEGA released complete System16, MODEL 1 to 3 and Naomi Arcade Collections ...
Rayforce does not use polygons at all, it is 100% 2D elements cleverly manipulated for achieving some amazing 3D looking effects. Use of these techniques granted a signature look to some games on the Taito F3 hardware.
Don't forget about Jax and Daxter runs on a 3D screen. I will still use it on my theater 3d projector and still looks awesome!
On PS3 of course.
Excellent video guys. Was looking forward to this a lot when you told me about it at LI Retro. And thanks again for signing the M2 documentary!
As in depth as your videos get, it's amazing you get out as many videos as you do.
26:05 bruh did you say heckfire
I wonder if the original game had that name or if he doesn’t say hell.
[Try4ce] Or it's just funny.
Heck yeah!
34:03 The titles are listed as "Thuder Force AC" and "Thuder Force IV" on the select menu.
SM All Stars was the first way I played any Mario games as a Sega kid. My parents would go over their friend’s house and the mom had a SNES from when her kid would visit, so I’d sit on that for hours
Cant believe i just heard Viridian and Silver from etrian odyssey!
Gotta appreciate my life in gaming man!
PS3 had other really cool disc compilations such as Borderlands Triple Pack, CoD MW Trilogy, Darksiders Collection, DmC HD Collection, Splinter Cell Trilogy and Tomb Raider Trilogy. Great video nonetheless.
Saw you guys at the Long Island Expo but didn't stop to say hi, love your channel!
Shmups are pretty cool. thanks for sharing. I really like the m2 Shottriggers portion of this video.
Thank you for making this video! I didn't know some of these collections existed, and it will help me get more use out of my PS3 especially
"Asia" releases usually cover Hong Kong (maybe not anymore) and thus are more likely to also have the English translation. They're also usually cheaper than the Japanese release.
Didn't know about the Baten Kaitos collection! Cool stuff!!
Really fun video to watch, appreciate the section towards the end as I’ve been getting a few more things from playasia. Try, I hope you do get into Etrian Odyssey this time, as it’s one of my favorite dungeon crawlers of all time! 😀
watching this just reminds me how good SotC and Ico are... masterpieces!
Love you guys! 🫶
I know you guys have played around with an MClassic before, and didn't really like the difference it made. But you (and Digital Foundry) didn't do it right
You can get adaptors for like $6 or $7 that make the device work at 1440p with any TV/projector with a 1440p mode (most 1440p modes on TVs are only for 120hz and don't usually support 60hz at 1440p, so you only get 1080p, this adaptor makes it work at 1440p 60 instead), and having your console output 720p gives you a 4x integer scale, and 480p consoles have a 6x integer scale, and with the anti aliasing it makes 360 and PS3 games look amazing.
IF your TV has a 1440p mode, it's made to look good on the 4K screen.)
And for none X-enhanced back compat titles (360 games that are still 720p), FPS boost games that turns the 4K enhancements off, or original xbone 900p games on a Series X, set to 720p output (so down-sampling with extra AA for the 900p games, and then an integer scale and even more AA with the MClassic) lets you play GTA4, Sonic racing Transformed, and Sonic Unleashed at 1440p locked 60, with that extra AAA, and makes stuff like Split/Second and Burnout 4, that are back compat but never got a res upgrade, look amazing.
No matter what you do though, it's terrible with 2D games, it's only good for old polygon games on the older consoles (full 3D and 2.5D like Streetfighter 4 etc...)
I mean, when you add that $6 adaptor on to the cost of the MClassic, so you're guaranteed to get 1440p, it does mean it's only $646 cheaper than a retrotink 4K now, and because of the extra AA and colour curve alterations, it is actually WAY better for 3D and 2.5D games. But yeah, it's still not gonna upscale Mario 3 as well as a retrotink, but that's why God invented scanline and lottes shaders on retroarch, older 2D console games are more like CRT through emulators with shaders, than through upscalers without them anyway.
at the rls of the mclassic scam, reviews were correct.
and pls stop calling a blur filter AA...
I ordered some of that factor stuff w/your code.. been looking at it, and hey why not support the show!
Another banger of a video 👏
I really like complilations of best of series made into collections - Capcom made some of the best I think.
I'm praying for another Aleste collection with MUSHA and Super Aleste 🙏🙏🙏
I love the MGS HD collection. I still play Peace Walker online on occasion.
[Try4ce] The store I found it in had two sealed copies for only $20 so it must not be too rare but it was a nice surprise!
The original Ratchet and Clank game is my favorite in the series
That Allstars Wii port in PAL was also 50hz only. I was gutted.
[Try4ce] Yikes! Not surprising though. It's just the same ROM as-is. It even says 1993 on the title screen and has SNES buttons on the screen when choosing a game. They probably did the PAL version just so it would have the PAL colored buttons.
>Ratchet & Clank collection
>occasional graphical glitches aside
Shows that you never played the originals (as you admitted). Those glitches are not "occasional", those are deal breaking.
Cosmic fantasy collections will be interesting when the second one comes out :)
A compilation video to go along with the surprise drop of the Castlevania Dominus Collection.
Maybe reach out to him
You could do an entire episode just on the many compilations Sierra released.
I'm among those that would also appreciate US releases of the remaining Toaplan Arcade Garage volumes. Especially since I really haven't figured out a way to get JP DLC. The PCE CD versions of Hellfire and Zero Wing are definitely worth a goaround
why cant you create a jpn psn acc??
M2 mentioned makes this a flawless video, except for that part where ICO is being called AICO 😬
PS3 seems to be trending on my feed. Just pulled out my fat backwards compatible model and installed webman and a ton of other packages and wow, so much development going on for this system.

@@sinister184 yeah, mine is fine. It maxes at 61'c with webman during heavy play.
12:20 Peace Walker is an absolutely criminally underrated game, and one of the best MGS titles around. It's the "true" MGS5 game, and unlike its next-gen copycat sequel, it's a properly finished game.
I would really love to see a vid on those bootleg collections, they were always hilarious to look through.
I hope you do get on the NSO sub. I'd like to know how those versions stack up in comparisons.
A Yakuza spinoff that's nothing but classic Sega arcade games would be fire.
I love Sony’s compilations on the Vita!
2:00 Sly 2 my love 😍

This video certainly came faster than the promised room tour videos 😉
Thanks Guys!
Thanks for talking about the zone of the enders trilogy 😩😩😩
21:51 It was released in Australia as well.
I don't recall Mass Media being defunct. At least, I don't remember seeing any definitive proof that they were.
11:42 it maybe wouldnt have been easy for bluepoint, but they still wouldve done it
Nice ps2 man! I really do like the fat version ps2 with freehdboot on it instead of the memory card free mcboot
Fantastic
The Japanese Etrian Odyssey releases are indeed JP only

@@mylifeingaming 🥹 that's cute
You can switch the camera in the ps2 port of jack and dexter. U habe to push a combo and u dont get a confirmation. I forgot what it was but it is easy to google
Edit: go to the grafics menu: hold up on the d pad and click R3
31:56 Wait whaaaaat? The PS4 collection has RayForce?? My Switch physical copy only has Raystorm and RayCrisis!
I hated when developers said that they "wanted" to keep the FPS at 30 to "preserve the cinematic experience". That's just BS corporate talk for:
1. The console is too weak to run the game at 60fps.
2. They're not skilled enough programmers to make the necessary optimizations to improve the framerate.
3. They're just lazy.
Gamesack brought me here
I would NOT recommend Sly HD Collection to newcomers, it has plenty of bugs across all three games on top of half-assery going on with 4:3 assets displayed in 16:9. That PS2 emulated Sly 1 (and PCSX2 for the other two) isn't a bad compromise at all compared to that.
It hurts me to hear Coury complaining about being stuck with inverted controls (I assume the Y-Axis). Inverted all the way!
I love my PS3!
Mister Clone! Cover it pls!
