Apparently the Japanese cartridge has a version of Operation C compatible with the Super Gameboy, featuring its own set of colors distinct from Europe's Gameboy Color version.
I remember reading that some fans of Operation C prefer the color choices in the Super Gameboy over the GBC version.

If there's one compilation that really stands out to me in gaming, it's the original Super Mario All-Stars for SNES, containing 16-bit remakes of the original 8-bit Mario games for the NES, including a merciless Mario game that never previously got localized: Lost Levels.
Capcom also had their own SMAS: Mega Man: The Wily Wars for Sega Genesis.

Wily Wars is hot garbage due to it's borked walking animation. There's like a weird startup animation frame that holds for 2-3 in-game frames, making every single ground movement feel laggy, ruining these tight, tough games

In Brazil, Tectoy released 10 Super Games in 1997 or so for the Mega Drive, it's basically 6-Pak with California Games, Sega Soccer, Flicky and Super Hang-on, it was still an appealing cartridge even then. Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Sonic 1 and Columns are popular enough, the cartridge only lacks a RPG so it would cover basically all main genres.

  • @GTXDash

I got my Mega Drive about 10 years ago from its first owner. It came with 6 cartridges and 2 of them were the 6 in 1 and 3 in 1.
Here in South Africa, the Sega Mega Drive was crazy expensive, probably because of the British Pound to South African Rand exchange rate since all our Mega Drives were from the UK. And these combo game carts made the deal more digestible.

This was a fun exploration of the various compilations over the years! A notable one that Sega did for the Saturn was the Sega Ages USA compilation. It features perhaps the best port of Outrun ever made. 60 FPS mode and supports full analog steering and full analog gas and brake, which makes it easy to use with a racing wheel (looking forward to this on the MiSTer core when further peripheral support is added.) Afterburner II and Space Harrier are included on the same disk and have analog/Mission Stick compatibility also. The Taito Legends compilations also rock.

34:19 The NES version of Pac-Man Championship Edition actually began life as a ROMhack developed by Coke774, before he was approached by Namco mid-development to turn it into an official release that came as part of this compilation.
It also uses the N163 mapper: two channels for music and two for sound effects. (the other four go unused due to a design issue with the N163’s mixer that causes bigger sound aliasing issues the more channels you use)

I used to really enjoy the various collections during the 5th and 6th generations. The Namco Museum and Sonic Mega Collection stand out fondly for me. Over time, I've slowly started to dislike them, especially in the modern era, as they're usually riddled with vast amounts of input lag, bad video filtering, and/or sound issues. I tend to gravitate towards original hardware (or Mister/FPGA equivalent) unless the game was completely reworked for the new target platform. There are some amazing exceptions like the various M2 Shottriggers releases. If anybody is into shmups/bullet hell they should definitely check out some of the Cave ports the M2 Shottriggers team did for Switch and PS4.

Gunblade is probably one of the last arcade memories I had as a teenager. Bowling alley had a really nice arcade and my friends and I would go to it in our pre-college and pre-21 days. I only played Gunblade a handful of times, but it had this bass system that really made you feel like you were weilding that massive machine gun while on the helicopter. I was so happy to be able to re-experience some of that in surround sound.
Time Crisis 2, Crazy Taxi and Crisis Zone were probably the last real arcade games I got to play before 'the arcade' became filled with those $1-$2 per 2-3 minute Raw Thrills rail-games.

I love compilations especially the ones released during the PS2/XBox era like the Capcom Classics Collections and Midway Arcade Treasures (especially MAT 3, which had a generous 4 ports of late 1990s arcade racing games, two of which are based on the Dreamcast versions, plus the untextured polygon Race Drivin' and S.T.U.N. Runner and a couple of overhead racing games).
I was thinking about getting the Sega Genesis 6-Pak specifically for Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi, which I don't have on cartridge and which I can't play on the Genesis Mini either (yeah, I know they're both on the Mini 2 but having to order it from Amazon Japan with intercontinental shipping to Canada put it well out of my price range for what I feel like paying to play 16-bit games legitimately). I actually do "own" both of those games on the Sega Classics Compilation CD-ROM that came with my Sega CD unit but my Sega CD hasn't worked in years.
I also like pinball compu=ilations, I have both the Williams and the Gottlieb Pinball Hall of Fame collections for PS2 and some tables on Steam.

One of my favorite multi-game compilations has to be the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX collection on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It has 4 full games, with updated textures and quality of life updates. They're also localized versions of the formerly Japanese exclusive final mix versions (at least for 1, 2, and Birth By Seep). I mention the PS4 collection over the PS3 versions because the PS4 version increases the frame rate to a consistent 60 fps AND it fixes the weird long loading issues that plagued the PS3 versions (especially the PS3 version of 2 and Birth By Sleep). The collection also features movie-like cutscene collections for the two DS games. Plus, when you beat the games/watch the movies you get PS4 themes based around the individual titles. The only way I could like it more is if they included some sort of museum feature.

Late in the PS1's life over here in PAL land there were a bunch of double pack games including the two Medal of Honor games packed together and Tekken 2 packed with Soul Blade. My favourite is probably Wipeout 3 Special Edition and Destruction Derby 2 though. The version of Wipeout 3 here is a rare version that has more tracks, balancing changes etc etc etc. There was a great charity compilation called 'HELP' too which has Road Rash, Broken Sword and Myst. I think we got a bunch more 'Mega Games' compilations for the Mega Drive too.
I love the SNK collections on the Wii (Arcade Collection, KoF and Samurai Shodown) as this was my first chance of playing games I'd only played on the NGPC before such as Neo Turf Masters and Samurai Shodown. I think these may have been 480i though (as were the PS2 Capcom collections if I'm remembering correctly). Metroid Prime Trilogy is great although I have a sneaky feeling it will be ported soon or made semi-redundant.
My favourite recent collections are the two NGPC collections on the Switch, as well as the amazing 'Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection' and 'SNK 40th Anniversary Collection'. The 'Sega 3D Classics Collection' on 3DS is amazing too... just wish we got all volumes. Don't think I'll ever get over that!
There's the 'Journey Collector's Edition' which comes with Journey, Flow and Flower as well as some early prototype style games. Not sure if these are on the disc itself though as they seem to download directly on to the system when you insert the disc. Deathsmiles I+II is interesting just for a chance to see what II was all about (not much, stick with the first game!!)

Two of the Taiko no Tatsujin games for 3DS which previously were not released outside Japan, were bundled in the Rhythmic Adventure Pack for current systems, emphasizing that they had RPG story modes. Although this was first done in the 3rd DS game and the 1st 3DS game was not re-released, this is still really cool. It's kind of a weird re-release since this games are usually considered replaceable like most rhythm games, many of the DLC songs were removed, a few new songs were added to keep them in line with current viral Jpop and anime songs, and most egregiously removed multiplayer entirely. I really like the song selection tho, probably because that was the era I got into the series and into anime, so it's the only one I own aside from the original US PS2 version since it is its own amazing can of worms. These were available individually digitally, as a single download, and on cartridge in Japan and Europe. Since it wasn't released physically in the US, Rhythm Festival became the first in the series to get a physical US release since the original attempt on PS2

Yes yes yes, do other ones! My shout out would be Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii I believe? And Metal Slug collections.
Also the Yakuza box/collection that came out like 2 years ago with almost EVERY YAKUZA game in a boxset ? Well except Yakuza 7/Like a dragon (and doesn't include Ishin remake, 7 Gaiden and now Infinite Wealth since those 3 came after the release of that boxset)

In regards to Gradius III and IV: while yes Gradius III runs at the same rez as its arcade version, Gradius IV is a bit different. It runs on the Konami Horner hardware, which uses a strange 24khz type resolution (I believe 512×384) only supported by "middle resolution" arcade monitors. So what they did is effectively put the game window in a 512×448 frame and run it in interlaced mode.

I'd love to see more videos on game compilation in the future! And then, after making a bunch of those episodes, you could make a compilation episode of your game compilation episodes! And maybe even through in some extra goodies like behind the scenes, editor interviews, and concept art!

You definitely need to include Taito Legends in the next video. There are different versions seperated by two regions.
For International, we only got two versions of Taito Legend whilst in Japan, they have four versions called Taito Memories and each individual version contain exclusive arcade games that you cannot find in other versions.

The reason why "Probotector" in the Konami collection was left unaltered had to be because of games like Contra Legacy of War effectively ending the pan-European censorship of the series, so Konami didn't have to alter the sprites to robots anymore. Perhaps Konami just kept the Probotector name for European brand recognition. Then again, they kept Gradius' name for the Euro cart instead of "Nemesis", so who knows why some games were re-titled. Also apparently Castlevania Adventure does have a slight performance boost, but if there is, it's minor at best.
19:22 Uh "Battle" DLC? "Battle" is the subtitle for re-releases of Sonic Adventure 2; SA1 was rebranded as DX Director's Cut.
