All the chaos of maintaining life, planning my life, getting stuff done, stress, anxieties, I put this show on and for a brief moment, I’m totally content and at peace. Yeah this was honestly quite the somber retrospective, hopefully we can look back on these troubling times in the future with a deeper appreciation for the art that helped keep us focused on new goals.

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic year in gaming, and a big thank you to Coury and Try for your continued hard work, and for being such cool guys.
I'm so glad that I don't play any Metroidvanias other than Metroid and Castlevania. Metroid Dread has been nothing short of incredible and is one of the few games that rejuvenated my interest in video games.
I look forward to this video every year. You guys have inspired me to keep track of the games my son and I play together throughout the year. Thanks for the great content and Happy New Year!
I always feel a ting of sadness everytime i start to hear that ending theme during the last shot, knowing another fantastic video is coming to an end. Cannot wait to see what 2022 holds for the MLIG channel. HAPPY NEW YEAR Try and Coury!
Thank you for all the content and fun you guys provide throughout the year! I'm always feeling remorse that I can never catch your live streams due to my work schedule, but I'm glad to be a supporter and a friend no matter what!
On Metroid Dread: Look up early morph bombs. Once you get that first sequence break the world opens up into an incredible matrix of challenges. The map doesn't make much sense at all until that point then suddenly everything feels placed with care as you carve out a stylish path.
This was, hands down, the best “2021” video I’ve seen from all the channels I’m subbed to. You guys make such top notch content. I proud to have been subbed to you guys from the beginning. Wishing you both, and everyone reading this, a wonderful 2022.
It's that time of year again! Can't believe this is the third year now in a row I get to see this compilation uploaded! Great job on the channel you guys and keep up the fantastic work!!
Happy New Year! Watching these "Games We Played In XXXX" became kind of a tradition for me in the last night of the year. Thanks for all the work in 2021 and a great 2022 to everyone!
58:42 - Another World is easily in my top ten games of all time. It really changed my outlook on what could be done with video games as a medium when I was younger. It's certainly not the most "replayable" game ever, but I do like to play through it at least once every year or two. You can finish it in maybe half an hour once you know what you're doing, but it's still such a cool game, and it's really fun to watch someone who's new to it figure out how to progress.
I absolutely look forward to this video from you guys every year. I love it and really enjoy watching it in full. If you ever made a directors cut talking longer or showing the games in more depth I would absolutely watch that. Have a fine 2022 Gentleman.

Another World is one of the best games of all time, but you weren't impressed with Metroid Dread or Resident Evil: Village? Nostalgia is one helluva drug lol. Thanks for a fun video.
Ok, I'll take another crack at Ghosts and Goblins Resurrection, get out the arcade stick, finished Parasite Eve four times when it came out, love that game. Yes, I had great success cleaning goo from sticky labels, etc, off second hand controllers with Colloidal Silver, used it on an old copy of Sacred 2 360 I picked up recently and it nearly got the ancient label gunk off with a q tip, took all the sticky out anyway, it's great because it evaporates with no trace, also very effective against mouth ulcers. Thanks. Happy New Year. (If anyone's reading this, I mentioned this in the chat some time ago :)
Control was one of those games I started but, never finished... dam, I am going to have to go back to it... It takes two... picked up and waiting for my brother (we also enjoyed No way out)...he's been busy.. so I am going to ride him about it. Happy New year ! Looking forward to more content !
What a well crafted video. I really don't need any more games added to my backlog, but I might just have to pick up a couple of these. I really need to start clearing mine out. Lol I ended up picking up the Cotton Reboot after watching you playing it one Sunday livestream. I haven't opened the seal yet, but I will have to play it one of these days.
Man I felt EXACTLY the same way about Jedi Fallen Order, Try. Was like someone yanked a game out of the PS2/Cube era and brought it to modern platforms. Just a fun action adventure with some solid platforming and simple but good enough combat. Not my favorite game ever or anything but it felt nostalgic in a way, both good and bad.
[Try4ce] Yep that was just my image of the game my whole time playing it. It coulda been a disappointment, and yet it just felt comfy and nostalgic for being so earnest and simple with what it tried to be.
Interesting. I found that game to be the worst parts of the souls-like phenomenon. Painfully slow traversal of boring empty levels with occasional combat that was super frustrating and likewise SLOOOOOW. It's like every few hours you would see something awesome and think YEAH THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!! and then it's back to slow traversal and boring repetitive combat. I wanted to fight some freakin' dark jedi and ride some speederbikes not take the long way round countless rooms in swamps and frozen empty caves.
@@darinherrick9224 Great settings, enjoyed the combat on Jedi Master (bit of a Souls fan), but then hit a boss and put down to story to progress. Bit of a getting lost simulator for me, didn't think much of the characters. Some parts 9, others 7 out of 10.
@@mylifeingaming am I the only one who hated this game? The combat felt terrible compared to Dark Souls, the exploration was limited, the bosses were annoying, and the performance on PC with random stutters was terrible. It started off great but then about 5 hours in I was bored to tears.
@@happyloaf you are not alone. the endless "shimmy though this wall to get to the place you need to be" sections really got to be annoying, along with other things...
I don't know man, Metroid Dread was awesome for me. My ONLY disappointment was the water boss. I had a hell of year of gaming with my daughter on live streams! Great video as always guys.
Wonderful year in review! I have really enjoyed Alex Kidd DX. I played a lot of Alex Kidd when it was new and I loved it then but I've had a harder time enjoying the original these days. This reboot did everything I needed to make the game a real joy to play. Unlimited continues being the real stand out. The game is still very challenging but the slog and frustration is (mostly) removed.
Happy New Year guys! I enjoy all of your videos and live streams however I always use these year end video find some games to add to my collection. Try I know you have talked about the cases you use for your PC Engine/TG16 hucards before but I can’t remember where you said you purchased them from.
[Try4ce] Gosh, what were they called? Came from eBay but I haven't had to order any extra in a long time. I believe they are intended for use with some kind of old PC card hardware or something.
Always love your end of year round ups. This approach always feels so much nicer to me than ranking the games and focusing on just what came out this year. Plus, I never get through a load of new games each year. I can't afford that. Most of my gaming is split between retro stuff I'm playign for the first time (Battlemania Daiginjou is my retro pick this year) and games I missed from the last few years.
Lol never woulda thought the Xbox would read the saturn discs as a CD but now I have to give that a go. Thanks for a fun video to get me through this busy last day of work! Happy New Year to you and thanks for the excellent content this year and all the years prior :) Edit: I hear you with the metroidvania fatigue, it has stopped me from enjoying titles like Hollow Knight and other very well done games of the genre just because it felt like I've been there done that and just want to go back and play SOTN for the millionth time. Maybe I'll give dread a go someday but for now imma wait for the very elusive chance it will be discounted for more than a few bucks.
@@mylifeingaming Hey thanks for the reply! I appreciate that :) I think i've heard that noise you are talking about with other games, nice to know what that is now! I just had a giggle about that even working so now I have to see it for myself. Cheers, and have a great new year!
44:08 If you haven't already, I'd recommend you to play Hollow Knight. It completely reinvigorated my love for the Metroidvania genre, not just because of the quality of the typical Metroidvania elements themselves (complex map layout, exploration and backtracking, rpg lite progression, level design, combat, platforming etc.), but because of the incredible aesthetics and world building that really sucked me in. In the last 10 years only Bloodborne had a comparable impact. I think it's because of how compelling and coherent the vision is, and how consistently well it's executed across all aspects of the game's design. It's unbelievable how such a small team was able to craft such a masterpiece of an indie game.
Very sad to hear you guys didnt like Dread. For me, it was the perfect sequel and somehow lived up to the 20 year wait for me personally. Such a fun game that I beat it 5 times in its first week, and I am very happy to get a Metroid game with actual sequence breaks in it again.
[Try4ce] To be clear, we didn't dislike it. It just didn't rock our worlds or anything. It's sad for us too, but we're just a bit burnt out on the genre at the moment, I guess.
Awesome vid guys... Top quality entertainment as usual 👏 So many cool recommendations, new it was going to be great when the first game was Eswat and then G&G 👍 All the best for 2022😉
Great and informative video. I bought and tried out the Tanuki game; yes, it's fun and the control is very tight, but I can tell it was created by just one guy. I'd say it's a far cry from the depth (and equally excellent control) you get in Circle of the Moon, Might Gunvolt Burst or similar titles. It feels like a too-easy version of Legend of Hero Tonma. Re: Metroid, I think most metroidvanias aren't worth my time, so Metroid was my GOTY. Nintendo tends to nail its big-name titles, and for Metroid I trusted (and believe they succeeded) at hitting the balance among all relevant factors -- good control, some added novelty, growth from exploration with increasing difficulty, interesting puzzles, memorable environments, etc, and most importantly, the time investment required to get something out of the game. I like that I don't need to devote tens of hours to get some enjoyment. Many developers assume everyone is an unattached 17-year old minor with no job.
My two favorite games I played in 2021 were Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Persona 5 Royal. With both games I loved them so much that I got the platinum trophies for each of them.
My favorite games I played this year were Sekiro, which was my first FromSoft game and DOA6. Sekiro is on my favorite games list now, it's just really satisfying to play I love the combat and the setting, I've finished it like 5 times now. As for DOA6 I've been trying to get into fighting games for years now, I've tried Street Fighter, SoulCaliber, Tekken and a few others but none of them clicked, but DOA's triangle system just worked for me. Ive been playing online and having a ton of fun, and then learning about frame times, mix ups, safe vs unsafe attacks, I finally feel like I'm starting to understand fighting games on a deeper level. I gotta say though fighting games have some of the greediest business models ever, it's sad to see. Anyway happy new years!
Legacy of the Wizard was one of the first games I ever played, that I can remember at least. Been meaning to go back to it for a while to see if I can actually figure it out 33 years later lol.
Regarding Control; "I'm still thinking about it 6 months later" - Coury. It had the exact same effect on me. It was hard to mentally take myself out of that world initially, and then the experience has never left me. I can only attribute this to the masterfully haunting and deep storytelling and engaging gameplay. It was easily my GOTY in 2019. If you're into the supernatural or science fiction, this is an absolute MUST play.
That was exactly how I felt, Control left a deep mark on me, it's a game that I'll treasure for the rest of my life, and it made me play Quantum Break and Alan Wake
Great video, I had an awesome 2021 finally finishing Super Metroid after hiring it back in the 90's and also finished the amazing streets of rage 2 and re played the amazing super Castlevania 4 and f zero on the SNES, my lowlight was trying to play Castlevania bloodlines on the megadrive after super, CV4 is a masterpiece bloodlines just feels like a regular platformer.
[Try4ce] Yeah I wish I'd had more time to elaborate here. It's a very charming game but boy I don't know how anyone could have ever figured it out on their own and the block pushing and bosses are maddening!
@@mylifeingaming Yeah definitely. My favorite part is for sure the structure of going down and down. It feels a lot like terraria. I think it might have inspired Hollow Knight too, the devs say they were inspired by a lot of NES games. It's a hard game to play but it was ambitious and forward thinking. One of those games that you want to try again and again but every time you start it you realize why you dropped it last time 😅
One of my favorite games that I was able to play in 2021 is the indie game title "Kaze And The Wild Masks", which is a 2D-style platformer with fun yet challenging gameplay that is surprisingly a lot like the Donkey Kong Country games, except you're able to play as a cute bunny instead of a hairy ape. ;)

Nice video! I was suprised neither of you guys played Returnal. Please give it a shot! There is a new DLC that is co-op as well
My favorite games I played this year were Sekiro, which was my first FromSoft game and DOA6.
[Try4ce] I started Sekiro this year but I had too much else going on and didn't get too far in. I'd like to restart it and finish it this year.
Resident Evil 8 is amazing!
Love the Bulk Slash music at 56:15
Sony should do Ape Escape Trilogy Remastered.
Legacy of the Wizard was one of the first games I ever played, that I can remember at least. Been meaning to go back to it for a while to see if I can actually figure it out 33 years later lol.
Happy New Year, guys. Looking forward to the next stream to hear how you got to 80s minutes!
Try's perspective on RE8 mirrors my own.
Looks like I am grabbing Panzer Paladin and Cotton Reboot today!
The elephant part in It Takes Two got to me 😆😆😆
You guys need to do updates game room and studio setup tours in early-to-mid 2022.
Legacy of the wizard is one of my favourites NES games. I can't explain it really. I just love it :)
maybe its the falcom ost.... yeah it's definitely the falcom ost 😅
One of those games that you want to try again and again but every time you start it you realize why you dropped it last time 😅
One of my favorite games that I was able to play in 2021 is the indie game title "Kaze And The Wild Masks", which is a 2D-style platformer with fun yet challenging gameplay that is surprisingly a lot like the Donkey Kong Country games, except you're able to play as a cute bunny instead of a hairy ape. ;)
