Hey all! I hope you enjoyed the video. I'm completely overwhelmed by the love and support this video has received, thank you! I recently put out another video titled "I Played Five Burnout Clones (and here's what I think!)" In the video, I play Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2012 and four other games I think you might like if you like Burnout. Check it out! Link: th-cam.com/video/SKPIcd-6U0Q/w-d-xo.html
im late but algo brought me all i want to say is my kid actually had a PSP and I should have gotten it for that and we all had a DS but it looks like broken spy hunter lol we had every console version (I still have my Dreamcast - it would have been bomb af on that) and yeah remastered with more islands would be really cool - they remastered the orange box and TF2 still had the original glitches in it, just in 4k (starting to think that was actually intentional for Valve to yet again give M$ the finger); it was pretty hilarious but from Burnout 2 forward is THPS legendary status territory, *especially* the soundtracks. I have never understood why the franchise was killed or mothballed or whatever...
Burnout 3 deserves the praise it gets, the visuals are sick, the music is sick, the driving is awesome and the amount of content you get is mind boggling. I absolutely agree it's one of the best driving games ever
in my neighbourhood, everyone played burnout 3, and i mean everyone, the girls the guys the fathers the uncles the kids, everyone wanted to play burnout and have fun and laugh, especially multiplayer with the 2 screens and all, that tells you how LEGENDARY the game is, and i cannot believe how dogshit EA is for having the franchise hostage, they literally will have insane amount of money just by remastering 3 and revenge and having it on pc
My father almost completed 100% the game twice but 4 year old me weren’t so good at english so I accidentally deleted his file both times and then he gave up 😂
The thing about Burnout Paradise, is you can tell it was designed more with multiplayer in mind than the previous games and it showed. I had tons of fun in the multiplayer of Paradise, just doing challenges or racing randos. Then you had all the DLC which effectively breaks the balance of the single player because they wanted to give more toys (literal in some cases) for the multiplayer.
Paradise was my first real online gaming experience. Spent hours in lobbies running races, freeroam events (stunt runs at airfield ofc), and of course raging at that one dweeb in a toy Nighthawk...
For a short while I held the 1 rank in the world on Paradise, I absolutely adored it as a teen Would get home from college, boot up Live join a lobby with my friends and we'd just race, chill and chat absolute nonsense all evening!
@@Pherdburfell I had gotten Paradise for my birthday that year around April when it came out. I was 9 years old and remember being the happiest kid with that game. I probably have 6 years worth of time played on Burnout. I remember when I finally finished the last race to unlock the Krieger WTR and felt like I had just won the olympics. Good times man.
There's nothing in this world that slaps quite like hanging out with your friends, smoking some weed, filling your belly with diet soda, and playing burnout revenge for the PS2
Its funny plenty of the bands on the soundtrack enjoyed this game while getting loaded. I remember playing Dominator bored before a show I was playing... I needed/ or didnt wanna blaze alone so I invited a dude who seemed chill to join in on some doobs. He later on turned out to be the singer from one of the bands. I told em truthfully.... i loved the song in game and Id even skip other bands who were more popular to hear theirs in game. The reason why EA had soo many punk bands on the soundtrack is a friend of mine dated a chick nicknamed "Ultragrrrl" who started a small indie label imprint off Island and was instrumental in getting some of those bands promo. Nightmare of you was one of the bands in FIFA 07... she helped with that. Now as to who the person was who put blink and afi and madden? I dunno or Story of the Year in NFS underground? Im not sure as I wasnt in the industry yet.
@@DirectorX59 As they said Atomica was Paradise's DJ. Fun fact he was also the DJ for SSX3' Big Mountain radio. Both Stryker and Atomica are also actual real world radio DJs.
Burnout Revenge is my all-time favorite game in the Burnout series. While I enjoyed Burnout Paradise, the open world format didn't quite resonate with me. I believe that individual tracks are a better fit for a Burnout game. One significant advantage of individual tracks is the variety of locations they can offer. Each track can provide a completely distinct atmosphere, whether it's a high-speed chase through the snowy Alps, a thrilling race through the neon-lit streets of Tokyo, or a scenic drive along the coast of Italy. In contrast, an open world tends to have a uniform vibe throughout, even if it includes diverse environments like seaside areas, mountains, and urban landscapes. The consistency of the world can make different areas feel similar, losing the unique feel that distinct tracks can provide. Another reason I prefer individual tracks is the learning curve they offer in a high-speed game like Burnout. Much like in an F1 game, players can memorize the layout of each track, mastering the optimal lines for entry and exit on corners. This deepens the gameplay experience, making it more satisfying to perfect your racing technique on familiar tracks rather than plowing through the open world. What I really want is another Burnout Revenge, but I doubt that's likely, given the current trend favoring open-world racing games.
I want another Burnout game in the Burnout Revenge style, Paradise just doesn't hit the same for me. It's a great game but in a different way, if that makes sense.
Burnout Paradise was a great map that encompassed a lot of what the prior games had for the "US" region. The race layouts were dumb though. They should've done checkpoint races like the bikes or the big giant arrow walls on intersections like previous games. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to have a little circuit race through downtown Paradise dodging the L-train posts.
@@NoMooreMercyTV Here’s a thing I never truly understood - the problem people have with Burnout Paradise’s “open world”. Even the creator of the video mentioned at some point he thought it was a waste of time. But an open world racing game is NOTHING at all like something like GTA. In non-open world racing games you get guard rails that stop you from straying away from a set path. Burnout Paradise is exactly the same, except the guard rails are off! The guard rails are instead replaced by indicators on the UI. As a matter of fact, I’d say it leads to even better gameplay because you don’t get penalized for hitting an imaginary wall. You can still try to carve your way back to the main optimized path the game recommends (and other AI opponents follow). Am I crazy for not understanding the dislike for the open world thing?
I think the ideal would be a series of smaller cities/locales that can either be played in restricted races or explored freely. Like, there's restricted race routes you can play as events in Motor City or you can just explore all its streets for collectables etc, then warp to White Mountain and do it again. Best of both worlds.
Fun fact" burnout 3 was orignally supposed to be more horrific, cut impact time backing ambience had screaming and more violent noises, theres a teaser trailer that has almost no music and is actually kind of creepy.
THANK YOU! I always said when I played the demo for Burnout 1 in my mind I was saying to myself "I swear I played an arcade game like that" when I went to check a video about Thrill Drive the memories of me playing that arcade game came back to me. Still Id rather play Burnout Revenge than Thrill Drive now though :P
The satisfaction that comes from dodging traffic in 3 is much greater than the thrill of smashing into everything in Revenge. When you get a clean run in 3, avoiding all obstacles, the sense of speed and satisfaction is unmatched in any other racing game ever.
They balanced the difficulty in Revenge by adding more environmental hazards and more hazardous traffic alongside the checkable traffic. Revenge isn't actually easier than 3 overall for this reason.
This comment again. Near misses in Revenge are still advantageous over mindlessly traffic checking everything. You're getting bigger boost refill and don't lose speed with dodging, while traffic checking has it use with taking down larger vehicles and opponents. It also helps with pacing as you don't automatically crash with smaller mistakes, while overall traffic is increased.
@@d.ryan96 I think Revenge is a 10. I think everyone should play it. But at the end of the day 3 has the added thrill of a perfect race that I don't think is quite as good in Revenge. That said, the way you can so easily ruin a perfect run in 3 can be frustrating, but I feel the payoff is worth it.
I think the highlight of Burnout Paradise was the DLC Big Surf Island. It’s packed full of tight races, really big jumps and just an overall more compact experience. If you haven’t played it, give it a chance!
I’d agree. Big Surf felt so dense. When I revisited the game over ten years later I was shocked to see how small the island really was. The spots for exploration really made the co-op a fun experience.
I definitely need to give it a shot! I originally wanted to check out Paradise with its DLC, but my 360 died in the middle of recording soooo... oof 😅. BUT, I'll certainly check out Big Surf when I can! Thanks.
Very true! The level design was amazing and changing the races to using waypoints like Midnight Club was a huge improvement. I really wish we got a Paradise 2 with design more like Big Surf rather than the lazy remaster.
I used to play burnout 3 online on Ps2 back in 2004-2007. Only two guys that were of a good match was 2 Japanese dudes (other ones nick was sasuke889(?) or similar..) Literally the races were so intense that you could not crash once during the whole multi lap race or it was all over. We went racing many long 3 lap races on every circuit without touching walls or crashing onto traffic, always using the fastest cars or even the formula cars. The wins where always by cars length or even less. The sense of speed when playing this game was insane.
I'm gonna be honest, when I was a kid I caught a trailer of Burnout 3 and I really loved it and wanted to play that game but then my dad brough home Revenge instead and y'know what ? I was just as happy lol Playing Burnout 3 much later down the line it sure is a fun game but because Revenge came first I have a heavy bias towards that game... that and I wasn't a fan of needing to dodge traffic cars lol
@@JakeLong-f6tI mean not really burnout revenge is essentially same but better in almost every way , better shortcut , better music , better takedown mode and do on.. It's just it's not big jump from birnout 2 to burn out 3 , that's why takedown was so legendry..
Always respect and appreciate a fledgling youtuber who doesn't ask/beg for subs and likes but just lets his/her content speak for itself. Earned yourself a sub man 👍
Burnout 3 takedown. Wow so much nostalgia behind it. After playing both revenge and paradise. It doesnt compete with takedown. The pick up and play action of takedown is what brings me back
Awesome video man. Burnout Paradise has to be my favorite. Being a 12 year old kid It is legitimately one of the first games that I remember being completely astonished with how realistic the crashes looked. The map was amazing and to this day I go back and play it every now and then just to waste some time. Also the DJ in Paradise is awesome. Would love to potentially see a game like paradise in the future that somehow implements a real in-game radio even if it's just for a year where players can call in or write in about their experiences in the city.
i grew up playing burnout 3. personally i think alot of its success is also owed to not just being one of the best racing games at the time but one of the best games period back then
Bullet For My Valentine recently popped up in my playlist and I instantly thought of the good times playing Burnout 3, so I just started playing Burnout Paradise again. I’m glad your video popped up in my recommendations. It’s a great video, very well put together.
I really wish Paradise offered both options - like, either linear menus of races (you instantly arrive at the relevant intersection, etc), or the open world version
Burnout 3 is my favourite. Burnout revenge is a close second but unlike you I personally didn't enjoy the traffic checking system as it made the game a little too easy for me. I personally hated Paradise for its open world and still can't get along with it to this day
Ha! I just commented the same: Checking through cars as if they were cardboard boxes (physics-wise) took fantastic arcadey racing to a stupid absurdity... 😅
Not gonna lie, after playing Burnout 1 so many times on the channel, it's a little funny to see people play this game so timidly. I'm not sure if it's intentionally programmed that way, but in Burnout 1, cars have slightly faster top speed if you drive on manual instead of automatic. The Saloon for example has a top speed of 130 MPH on automatic, but can reach up to 137 MPH on manual.
At least Burnout Legends took the cars , elements and physics from the Burnout 3 add the cars and tracks from Burnout 2 and carried over the PSP which is currently better than the DS
I sold my DS, big carrying case, and all my games to my little cousin for next to nothing just so I could buy a PSP. In hindsight, I wish I'd kept it, or at least charged him more than $80 for all that in 2006 lol. That said, I loved the PSP even more. I ended up playing Burnout Legends more than any other Burnout game. That, Twisted Metal: Head-On, Daxter, and Tekken Dark Resurrection were my first games and they absolutely amazed me at the time. The graphics truly shocked me in the mid 2000s. God of War: Chains of Olympus was also a technical marvel when it came out. Great system. All my DVDs, VHS tapes, games, and consoles were sold in a yard sale in 2010 by my parents while I was at college because I left them all at home and they needed to "free up space". I was asked if they could sell some of my "old toys" in the basement, to which I didn't give a second thought and said sure (I might have been a little drunk/high when they asked me too lol). Didn't realize it meant selling EVERYTHING I'D EVER SPENT MY MONEY ON from age 8-18. I bought all my consoles and most of my games myself from money I'd saved up from odd jobs, a $5 a week allowance from chores, babysitting for neighbors, and eventually pizza delivery. My parents definitely didn't realize or appreciate just how valuable all that stuff was to me, both financially and sentimentally. I had some games that would go for a lot more money today than I paid for them at the time. They essentially gave them all away for pennies. RIP my PS2, PSP, GC, N64, and Xbox 360. I miss them!
@@amphibeingmcshpongletron5026 Thanks for sharing your story! That's a shame about your things, but it's never too late to buy them back! Start small and slowly build back, that's what I'm currently doing. I emulate most of my games these days, but I just love how they look on my shelves.
@@amphibeingmcshpongletron5026My PS2 had its days in the when I overplayed too much Burnout 3 , the closest Burnout game Ive played was Burnout Legends on The PSP , that too My PSP broke less 3 years later fast forward when I have my first phone when I was 18 , there a emulation for PSP on android when I found out from my friends and told me how to download and run game through emulation , after finished my school , got a job and one of my guys at work gave his PS2 console over to me and it is still 100℅ working since he was moving over The USA with his family and kids and thus I bought Burnout 3 along a controller with and boy it was worth the wait after so many years later :3
Hmm my best friend is a guy called Allan he sucks at racing games except CTR nitro fueled but racing games were the first genre I got into and always end up way better at the game than him so it's not really a fair competition ☹️
I still remember the adrenaline i got from playing Burnout 3 on a gaming expo in my town for the first time. It was so god damn impressive back in the PS2 days. The graphics, the sheer speed of the cars moving, the music. To this day i never had that feeling again
Revenge was the game I had as a kid; hours upon hours of fun and I still listen to the soundtrack today. I lost touch with racing games for a long time but the Burnout Paradise remaster helped me rediscover how fun they are so that game is special for me too. Great video!
Paradise was my personal favorite. So much to do, and the open world feel had so much extra past just the races. The expansions were awesome and the variety of cars was massive. Online was one of the best ways to meet new people and game with friends.
Fun fact: Dominator on PSP has 2 DLC tracks, which, according to beta and unused stuff from the PS2 version, were originally cut tracks for the PS2 version.
I never thought there would be somebody who dislikes DJ Stryker. In my experience playing Burnout 3, he helped making the whole environment around the game feel natural. I just loved his stories and coments throughout the races lol
honestly I think Burnout Paradise may be the best implementation of an open world in that gen, because 1) you never have to trek across the map to continue the main content (except for the last license) and 2) all the obligatory open-world collectibles are directly useful in events.
I've been playing Burnout since the first game was released, and it's been one of my favorite childhood games. The series holds a special place in my heart, but I think many people are sleeping on Burnout 1 (Xbox). The first game in the series feels grounded, and raw. The cars aren't overly souped-up, making it feel like you're an illegal street racer breaking the law. I often compare the Burnout series to the Fast and Furious franchise. Both started small and grounded but became more over-the-top as they evolved. This progression isn’t a bad thing; in fact, it adds to their charm. The first Burnout game, for example, had impressive lighting and locations that set a cool atmosphere and mood for the courses, especially those set at night or in the rain. One thing that disappoints me about the later games in the series is that the first game was the only one that let you drive a large utility vehicles such as a bus or a tow truck in regular events. My ideal Burnout game would combine the atmosphere, continent locations, and heavy traffic design of the first game; the crash physics of Burnout 2; the soundtrack and aftertouch mechanics of Burnout 3; the traffic check, and shortcuts of Burnout Revenge; and the graphics of Burnout Paradise. Just wished there was another installment to excite my love for the franchise again.
There was a solid two years where every day after school me and my boys would boot up Burnout Paradise. Loved the car selection, customization, open world, physics and destruct ability. Man I gotta play it again.
Burnout Paradise is my fav of all in the series. I bought it used when I was a kid after I completed Burnout 3, and it blew my mind. Burnout Paradise realized all of my “what ifs” in my small child brain, so it has a special place in my heart. Replaying it as an adult, the gameplay can get stale due to playing the same race again and again to upgrade your license. However, it is still a fun and visually spectacular piece of entertainment.
The key to Paradise was the online play! There was so many challenges and unlocks secret cars and so on. Thats where this game truely shined. It got a DLC expansion Paradise Island I think its called. Though I never got to it. Paradise was an amazing online game. Basically Burnout with ur squad
As someone who played the Burnout games as a teen, seeing this on my feed was a "must watch". I don't understand how you don't have more subscribers. You're clear, concise, open minded and best of all, you're detailed and not afraid to be honest. You've earned a subscriber out of me, and I hope you see a massive influx of subs in the near future. Keep being you. As far as I can tell, you're the only you out there, and that's someone I know I want to watch more of. That came out wrong lmao
And to answer your question: Burnout Revenge has the most vivid memories in my mind, but Paradise is a close second. Unfortunately, I played Revenge long before Takedown, so it seemed to very much lack alot in my eyes.
Just wanna say this is one of the nicest comments I've ever gotten and I wanted to say thank you. You'll see much more coming out of me soon! That also came out wrong lmao.
To this day, as a 29 year old ps2 owner i have not genuinely beaten NFS most wanted. I LOVE that game tho. Still my favorite racing game of all time. Celldweller on the soundtrack was insaaaane.
@@waxmandr Yeah, the developers, Three Fields Entertainment, did have to come out and say they do not have EA's money backing them like the Criterion days, and it will reflect in games like Dangerous Driving, and it did. And as for NFS MW 2012, that is basically Paradise 2.
That Burnout 3 intro just shot me back to 20 years ago! Great review man! I had a great time with both 3, Revenge and Paradise. Glad I still got the games!
Burnout 3, Revenge, Dominator, and Paradise are my favorite Burnout Games. Dominator was originally going to have crash Mode and WAY more stages, and can you imagine, They removed AN Entire offroad class
Paradise's big flaw was ultimately, that there were no course restrictions in the races. 8 Locations on the outer edges of the map, which means every race ends up funneling into the same optimal routes fairly quickly. If it weren't for that, it would be incredible. But like it is, it sort of wastes a lot of the map's potential.
Great Video man. Burnout Paradise was so much fun, I spend countless hours racing around, goofing around and just enjoying the scenery flash by when I was just roaming around. They even added different cars as DLC, one could switch boost type, one had a boost that once you used it, it couldn't turn off, but it was the fastest car. Man I miss it...
Great video. I picked up the series with 3, and share a lot of your opinions! One thing I do feel differentiated 3 and Revenge was the difficulty level - I felt that traffic check made the game a lot easier, and very much changed that knife-edge feel of dodging traffic that 3 had. I also sort of slept on Paradise for a while when it came out, but at some point it clicked and may be my favorite in the series now , especially with the remasters. The handling is so good, all the cars feel unique. The sense of speed and danger is crazy, and the crashes have so much momentum and look incredible . And I had a great time exploring the map for the collectibles. The parking garage mini-platforming puzzles were a ton of fun. The map is really well thought out in general. And learning the city and the best routes really rewarded you the more you played. The more time I spent with paradise, the more I loved it. I still play it every couple months.
It seemed like everything EA released around that time held that aesthetic. _BattleField_ _2_ on the 360 looked _exactly_ the same: dark, brown-haze, excessive 'blind your character' bloom/lens-flare, occasional shiny bits because, "ooh, H-D!"
Revenge and Point of Impact will always be my favorites. I still remember seeing Burnout 1 at a Blockbuster when I was kid and begging my mom to rent it for me. Ever since it's been my favorite racing franchise.
Burnout Revenge is one of the few games I keep coming back to year after year. Perfect racing title! The PS2 version is in heavy rotation on my Steam Deck these days.
Man, when burnout paradise was at its peak, it was so fun. The multiplayer was so fun, especially because it had voice chat. You could sit on this game for hours
Amazing video boyo! Not too many people talk about Burnout in my recommended videos section. One thing you forgot to mention in Burnout 3 was when you crashed during races, at the bottom of the screen it tells you what your car does as it comes to a halt. I always loved that detail and my cousins and I would try to make a Tony Hawk style challenge with it. I was sad to see it gone in Revenge (Excluding Crash Mode) and above.
You forgot to mention the whole point of Burnout Revenge: The actual revenging! The feature that allowed you to revenge someone else ^^ But it's not even a big deal feature-wise, and the rest of the video was awesome. Thanks for the nostalgia.
This is a loveletter to an amazing franchise from our childhood, and I thank you for putting this much heart and dedication into it. I grew up with every title on PS2, and had Paradise on 360 during college. Old consoles came and went, memories of the PS2 titles are fleeting, but thankfully Paradise is available on Steam, and more recently Switch, so it's always been by my side. I would love to see a sequel to Paradise, but even if it never happens I'm more than happy starting fresh on Paradise over and over when the itch needs scratching.
Might get called crazy, but I'd say Dominator is my favourite. Sure, it's not objectively best, but still, i love it. One of the reasons is probably because it's my first burnout. Although i only got into the series around last year. I also believe that Dominator is one of those games that got me through my last year of high school (which i finished a few weeks back) so it's definitely another reason i love it. I believe the soundtrack for the game is quite underrated too.
@@Sryloth It released suuuuuper late into the PS2's life cycle, I like to look at it the same way I look at GTA Vice City Stories. Great game, totally underplayed and underrated.
@@NoMooreMercyTV agreed. Speaking of vice city stories, i think that it has the best theme song in any GTA. Too bad I can't find any ps2 copies since I don't have a psp
I have to thank you for this video! It’s awesome to see such evolution in racing arcade games, all of these games are absolute bangers, but I have to stick to paradise as being one of my childhood favorite memories. As soon as the remastered came out with all DLC included, I had to give it a try and it really felt like a warm hug in the heart, you should give it a chance! It surely changed the burnout formula, but man, it sure is a fun game to spend hours playing. Thank you so much for this!
Great vid! I grew up on burnout 3 so that was my jam for a long time. I think i had multiple save files with 500+ hours lol. If i had to list top 3 id say 3, paradise, revenge. 3 for blowing my 6 year old mind and being the first game i 100% (best soundtrack), paradise for loving the open world, and just played revenge this year for the first time and it was so nice to be transported back to my childhood. And traffic check was such a nice change!
Absolutely loved this video. Instant subbed!! To me personally Dominator ranks above them all purely because I used to play multiplayer with my (dearly departed) sister a lot! We'd spend hours and hours over the weekends. She'd even completed the campaign mode a few times herself. I also enjoyed Legends on the PSP. I liked the handling aspect + the vehicle selection. I think I finished the game within 4 days.
Thank you for the kind words! I could never get my sister into these kind of games, she was always glued to Final Fantasy. 😅 I'm glad I'm hearing from so many people about their experiences with the games, good and bad. Appreciate y'all!
I completely agree with you. Burnout 3 was my first my own game ever on PS2 (when i skip games that i got with PS2 Slim buying), and omg, my love for racing games is thanks to this game, truly. Nostalgia fits everytime i see Takedown. Then I got revenge and also dominator, when they came out, and same as you, I like Revenge the most. I think i played it and enjoyed it the most. It was upgrade from Takedown in everything. The only "bad" thing for me was the color scheme, it was too "orange" i guess. Same problem with Dominator. Great game, but little chaotic thanks to the colors, it was just too colorful. Years later Paradise came out and i was sooo happy, but yea, good old days were gone and i guess there wont be another game like Revenge and Takedown. What a time to be alive, really. Thanks a lot for this video, you unlocked a memory I thought was lost.
Hey Mercy, long time viewer - first time poster. I love Burnout, It's my favorite car game right next to Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One and the Windows and the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Keep up the great videos, This is the industries first AAAA.
Tbh I do love the PS3 era, when graphics used to be all sepia styled and overblown with bloom. A lot of people do complain about the lack of color but I do like it. Represents my teenage years of gaming!
Dude! How could you not mention how amazing the crashes look in Burnout paradise? I've spent countless hours playing road rage in that game, great video btw
Man... I am so obsessed with Revenge... Finished it multiple times on my PS2 when I was a child, then on 360 and recently on PCSX2 (finally works flawlessly). I enjoyed 3 (it's a close second) and Paraside too, but Revenge is definitely the peak of Burnout, it's Burnout 3 on roids. Great video!
@@HelperUnknownGB Yes and no. They always sucked in some ways. Look up how they screwed over the Ultima devs in the 90's. Also, they bought all the sports licences and monopolyzed that market, compared to the 90's when a bunch of different developers were giving their shot at some sport. Basically, EA always sucked to some degree but they got MUCH worse with time.
Paradise and Revenge are incredible. Still play Revenge to this day. However Burnout 3 Takedown is the best burnout and the best racing game of all time and I will forever die on that hill. The Physics are incredible and more realistic, as far as realism goes. The soundtrack is arguably the best in the series. The replayability is endless. Yes, there’s no traffic checking and Revenge looks way better visually. But the sense of speed provided an experience no other Burnout can replicate. It is the perfect Burnout game. I have a copy of B3T on display in my house for a reason.
Great video - I always loved the Burnout games, they were so much fun! Burnout 2 was, imho, one of the biggest gaming glow-ups of all time, and the improvements it made over its predecessor were vast. Also, the 2-player, split-screen pursuit mode was so much fun it was unreal 😄
Burnout Paradise is a masterpiece. The only reason you didn’t appreciate it as much as you should have is because you didn’t experience the multiplayer to its fullest extent. It is one of the games I played the most on the PS3 and I still play it to this day. It’s a timeless game. The DLC content also expands on the existing map adding verticality and fun challenges that can be done with friends. It’s easily the best game in the series, and it being non-linear in its approach to gameplay and map design is what makes it so fun. You get to explore the world at your own pace.
Yeah, Paradise is Heavily built around online multiplayer. Had he played Paradise when it was released, his opinion on it would probably put it number 1. Imo hands down best burnout game.
THANK YOU! I always wandered why people only talked about 3 and why Paradise is the one still being sold everywhere, I knew I wasn't the only one thinking this was weird. Suscribed!
In Short: _Burnout_ _3_ was *peak* Criterion. They built upon what was good from the prior _Burnout_ games, innovated (aftertouch, crashbreakers, multipliers, road rage, online multiplayer), and leveraged big publisher funding with minimal oversight (since the buyout came relatively late in development) to crank the audio and visuals to 11. This afforded Criterion both the finances and freedom of maneuver to build the ultimate _Burnout_ game the way _they_ wanted. EA's mountain of money was _really_ put to good use in the _Burnout_ _3_ soundtrack. 44 *solid* Alternative/Indie/Punk Rock tracks hand-picked by the son of one of the developers. They took a bit of a gamble in this regard, and it paid off in spades. When you look at the comparable _Need_ _for_ _Speed_ : _Underground_ , it too had some bangers (albeit more Rap/Hip-Hop), but the licensing costs for high-profile artists resulted in a soundtrack that was half the size. _Burnout_ _3_ : _Takedown_ was basically two entire CDs worth of rising counter-culture, plus the in-universe radio station "Crash FM," hosted by Stryker, a highly popular, real-world DJ, setting the tone for a fun-fueled, immersive, high-octane world where you could vent your desire for destruction while screaming down the road at 100+ Mi/hr. Additionally, the Xbox version of the game allowed users to import their own custom soundtracks, an often touted but rarely delivered strength of the big black 'box of doom.' _Burnout_ _Revenge_ was fun; it carried over a lot of what made _3_ great. It tried to iterate, but the changes it brought didn't make for a better game. Traffic 'checking' was overhyped; Crash mode regressed; shortcuts were underwhelming; exclusive DLC never really panned out in any meaningful way, and a lot of the cars felt soulless compared to prior games. The soundtrack only brought over *four* of the bands which carried the prior entry (approximately 10%), and, on top of that, Indie/Punk Rock had changed in that time. _Revenge_ legitimately has great music, but the selected songs don't quite mesh with _Burnout_ 's gameplay/feel. Gone entirely was Crash FM, DJ Stryker, and the completely polarizing moments of suspension/calm brought on by their brief audio interruptions. Short of a single appearance in the intro video, _Revenge_ is completely devoid of a DJ. This same intro more or less sums-up the disparity from one game to the next (where the latest's opening shares more similarities with one of its predecessor's "Training" Tutorials); _Revenge_ felt like a fraction of _Burnout_ 's former glory, which likely served as an analogy for Criterion themselves at that point. Following that, _Burnout_ _Paradise_ always felt like Criterion was trying to hard to mirror the _Need_ _for_ _Speed_ series of the time, which is essentially what they _were_ doing. Around the time of _Paradise_ 's release, Criterion was given the lead over _NFS_ . Despite EA _strongly_ denying it at the time, this clearly signified the death of _Burnout_ . Cash-grab, throw-away titles don't count in my book.
@@spinneryourdinnerespecially paradise, the fuck? NFS sellout? there's so much passion for the burnout series as a whole in that game that the only thing you could say is inaccurate is the open world (and it's one of like 3 open world games where it didn't feel empty and I always found myself doing something) it really felt like they were doing something different and ambitious for one last burnout game I assume they had much more in mind but could only dish out what we got, which is still amazing
You all really need to play Split/Second. Sure its not burnout, but it is incredibly fun. As for favorite burnout game? Im Gonna have to go with Takedown.
I LOVED Blur, really sad it died out as quickly as it did. I remember having a lot of fun with the multiplayer demo they put out before it's release. Split/Second is a game I've looked at plenty of times, but never played. It sorta looks like Motorstorm: Apocalypse, definitely check that out if you haven't!
Nooooo, I'm happy revenge finally gets recognised as peak but you didn't talk about CRASH BREAKER RACES! The slowdown, the feel of that explosion. The hilarity of it in split screen. I swear I'll make a revenge simp vid someday
Thanks for making this video man. It took me back to a much simpler time of playing Burnout 3 with my older brothers and waking up a 4am just to play Burnout Paradise because I was grounded and if my dad caught me playing I’d be screwed. 😂 It truly makes me miss those days when things were so much simpler and I still spent time with my family. Cheers man.
Burnout 2's boost bar fills most of the way if you use it, but if you don't undertake any risky behaviour while boosting - your chain can end. I was playing it on Steam Deck yesterday 😁
@@NoMooreMercyTV Haha it’s basically a cousin since it’s made by the same developers and you literally have to crash other cars to win some modes especially as a cop. Very good game.
I often forget just how good and fun Burnout 2 was. The sense of speed, the replays, the crashing, even the cars are designed beautifully. I like to keep it at odds with 3, both were revolutionary and went in different directions after and before EA. I still think Revenge is the best, but 2 and 3 have a special place in my heart. Same for Paradise, even though I didn't play much of it.
Wish I played Burnout 2 when it was new, it would've blown my mind I feel like. Super fun game, just doesn't tick the same boxes for me as 3 & Revenge.
Revenge is still my favorite in the series. It just felt the most fun, and I miss its crash events. That said, Paradise has its charms, between the ability to explore and the opportunity to make different routes through the city work in some races, there's enough there to like it almost as much. Motorstorm Apocalypse, DiRT, Wreckfest and Split/Second have all tapped into some of the wild fun of Burnout, but still find myself coming back to Revenge. It's just fun and satisfying. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Burnout 3 is a great game but I loved Revenge so much more. The addition of Traffic Check brought in such a fun and interesting element. Nothing was more satisfying than boosting into same way traffic and sending cars flying into your opponents.
@@RJA I agree but I have to dodge traffic on real life. That's why I prefer Revenge. I can take out all my frustration from the idiots driving 65 in the left lane on those cars and not crash or die.
Kind of ridiculous how these games have never been packaged together and remastered (all they need to do is 2x the native res and they look great - if PCSX2 can do it, so can you EA!)
I just found this video, and got the iso for Burnout 3 Takedown working on my modded ps2 :). Been playing for a bit but it's super fun. Awesome video too man.

all i want to say is my kid actually had a PSP and I should have gotten it for that and we all had a DS but it looks like broken spy hunter lol
we had every console version (I still have my Dreamcast - it would have been bomb af on that) and yeah remastered with more islands would be really cool - they remastered the orange box and TF2 still had the original glitches in it, just in 4k (starting to think that was actually intentional for Valve to yet again give M$ the finger); it was pretty hilarious but from Burnout 2 forward is THPS legendary status territory, *especially* the soundtracks.
I have never understood why the franchise was killed or mothballed or whatever...

Burnout paradise is not great I think, people play burnout because they want to race, not wander around looking for a race.
It was my most played online game ever, we had so much fun with it.
For a short while I held the 1 rank in the world on Paradise, I absolutely adored it as a teen
Would get home from college, boot up Live join a lobby with my friends and we'd just race, chill and chat absolute nonsense all evening!
@@Pherdburfell I had gotten Paradise for my birthday that year around April when it came out. I was 9 years old and remember being the happiest kid with that game. LMAOOOOO gotta love Smiling Friends

Atomika is only jokingly mentioned (by Stryker) in _Burnout_ _3_ .
THIS @@JZStudiosonline

Still Id rather play Burnout Revenge than Thrill Drive now though :P
Burnout 3's soundtrack is a banger from end to end. One if the best gaming soundtracks ever
Yeah, when I listen to it, it instantly transports me to the mid-2000s.
Hehe, the burnout soundtrack is my traveling music when i take long drives
The satisfaction that comes from dodging traffic in 3 is much greater than the thrill of smashing into everything in Revenge. When you get a clean run in 3, avoiding all obstacles, the sense of speed and satisfaction is unmatched in any other racing game ever.
That's a fair assessment! Depends on my mood, honestly haha. I enjoy them both for what they are, nearly equally.
For that is also the reason why i like Dominator, as i was not realy too much fan of traffic checking, it made the races too easy.
Thanks.

@@Berzwreck who?
Agree, Revenge is easily my fav in the series, I wish we got a remaster collection of the games on modern hardware.
Seeing the PSP vs DS comparison was shocking. I only had a DS as a kid and never realised how bad it was in comparison.
Exactly my thoughts when I see DS vs PSP, our parents got us the wrong system.

I got this feeling when I played Black for the first time, it truly felt like a next-gen game on the PS2.
Burnout3 come out at the golden peak of arcade racing games, nfsMW and so on all at the same time.
Fun fact: Dominator on PSP has 2 DLC tracks, which, according to beta and unused stuff from the PS2 version, were originally cut tracks for the PS2 version.
Fascinating! Any idea why they were cut? Space limitations or something?
What 2 DLC TRACKS? I played this game as a kid.
I never thought there would be somebody who dislikes DJ Stryker. In my experience playing Burnout 3, he helped making the whole environment around the game feel natural. I just loved his stories and coments throughout the races lol
I like him but holllly hell he talks too much!
honestly I think Burnout Paradise may be the best implementation of an open world in that gen, because 1) you never have to trek across the map to continue the main content (except for the last license) and 2) all the obligatory open-world collectibles are directly useful in events.

Revenge's bloom is a crime against humanity. Way, way, waaay too overdone
Hahaha a crime against humanity, thats new.
No
It seemed like everything EA released around that time held that aesthetic.
5:55 "there's no bonus multipliers"
Big "Bonus X14" at the bottom left of the screen lol
Woops lmao, definitely meant bonus multipliers like the pickups in B3. 😅 Good catch!
Popped up on my recommended vids, got my childhood back with burn-out 3, great video and nice commentating!
I'm jealous! I missed out!
That's a fair criticism of the video, It's something I never really paid attention to, but that sounds fun!
You forgot to mention the whole point of Burnout Revenge: The actual revenging! The feature that allowed you to revenge someone else ^^ But it's not even a big deal feature-wise, and the rest of the video was awesome. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Yeah, it was such an afterthought in my mind it completely slipped me by haha. Thanks for watching!
Oh, the summers I spent playing burnout 3 takedown will absolutely be a part of the 7 minute flashback before my soul leaves my body.
LMAO.
Burnout 3 is still the king of arcade racing. I'd kill for a remaster.
Showtime in Paradise City looks like something straight out of Bollywood lol 😂
Might get called crazy, but I'd say Dominator is my favourite. Sure, it's not objectively best, but still, i love it. One of the reasons is probably because it's my first burnout. Although i only got into the series around last year. I also believe that Dominator is one of those games that got me through my last year of high school (which i finished a few weeks back) so it's definitely another reason i love it. I believe the soundtrack for the game is quite underrated too.
Definitely agree about the soundtrack, it's got some killer songs. It's an underrated game in general.
@@NoMooreMercyTV agree, but i believe it would have been more popular if it wasn't a psp/ps2 exclusive
You're welcome! I keep getting recommended Burnout Paradise Remastered, I gotta actually sit down and sink time into it.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
burnout 3 deserves a remake more than anything else i can think of.
that game was magic. nothing more to say.
12:15 stryker is the goat. Wrong opinion. Tune in to crash FM and watch me pummel this guy live on air ! 🤟🏻🤙🏼
Facts !
I'm glad I'm hearing from so many people about their experiences with the games, good and bad. Appreciate y'all!
My favourite song from Burnout 3 will always be Autopilot Off - Make A Sound. I still listen to it to this day
That's a good one, mine is either Breathing by Yellowcard or Congratulations Smack and Katy by Reggie & The Full Effect
@@NoMooreMercyTV Such classics
I rarely played racing games but I absolutely loved playing Revenge as a kid. The art direction, music, and mechanics is a perfect blend.
You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed!
DAMN finally someone that gives props to dominator
I also loved Dominator even tho it wasnt developed by criterion its still great
It's a fantastic game!!! It nails the Burnout formula perfectly
Hey Mercy, long time viewer - first time poster. I love Burnout, It's my favorite car game right next to Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and the
PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One and the Windows and the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Keep up the great videos, This is the industries first AAAA.
How does this have so many likes? 😅😂
Tbh I do love the PS3 era, when graphics used to be all sepia styled and overblown with bloom. A lot of people do complain about the lack of color but I do like it. Represents my teenage years of gaming!
It's so stylized! I know EVERY game from that era had that color palette, but in hindsight I like it. It represents a wonderful time in gaming.
Dude! How could you not mention how amazing the crashes look in Burnout paradise? I've spent countless hours playing road rage in that game, great video btw
Thank you!
Perfectly summed up, Burnout 3 on roids.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
Back then when ELECTRONIC ARTS was actually ELECTRONIC "ARTS"
YES! I grew playing games like NFS Hot Pursuit 2, Underground 2, and Burnout Revenge and I always try to tell people “I swear EA used to be good”.
Agreed a hundred percent. Burnout peaked at 3 and it was never the same onward.
Idk Burnout 3 had such a clean look to it. The maps and levels are so beautiful. I feel it looks better than Revenge.
@@TheBoxNasty I see that, it also just feels better than revenge as well, I think
I like revenge more and feel it peaked there, but could never be mad at anyone who prefers 3 because it's that good! They're both incredible
This is GOOD CONTENT! I loved the Burnout series and you just made me want to break out the old console and just start crashing into stuff
Thanks! I'm glad that it had that effect on you! That's the whole goal of this channel, to inspire people to play cool games!
Banger video, but you know you’re old when hearing a PSP game being referred to as a mobile game makes you twitch haha
@AnabolicRick915 Paradise was pretty mid man. Good and fun enough racing game. Not a good burnout game. It's below 2, 3, & Revenge for me.
Never played Paradise online, but still go back and play it when I want to have a chill gaming experience. Can sit and just cruise around mindlessly.
THANK YOU! I always wandered why people only talked about 3 and why Paradise is the one still being sold everywhere, I knew I wasn't the only one thinking this was weird. Suscribed!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for checking it out.
What a top tier video from a channel with less than 5K subs.
Ill be on the lookout for more from you for sure
Thank you! That's an amazing compliment!
Additionally, the Xbox version of the game allowed users to import their own custom soundtracks, an often touted but rarely delivered strength of the big black 'box of doom.'
_Burnout_ _Revenge_ was fun; it carried over a lot of what made _3_ great.
That’s a lot of wrong in a single comment, but we respect wrong opinions here
@@spinneryourdinnerespecially paradise, the fuck? NFS sellout? there's so much passion for the burnout series as a whole in that game that the only thing you could say is inaccurate is the open world (and it's one of like 3 open world games where it didn't feel empty and I always found myself doing something) it really felt like they were doing something different and ambitious for one last burnout game
I assume they had much more in mind but could only dish out what we got, which is still amazing
You all really need to play Split/Second. Sure its not burnout, but it is incredibly fun. As for favorite burnout game? Im Gonna have to go with Takedown.
Agreed! Split/Second and Blur are two often overlooked arcade racing games during that generation and both are FANTASTIC!
Good call out! I didn't and I should've. If you make a Revenge vid, send it my way I'd love to check it out.
You forgot a game: NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 developed by Criterion. Basically burnout but with an NFS skin.
I'd love to check that out in the future, but that's not a burnout game!
@@NoMooreMercyTV Haha it’s basically a cousin since it’s made by the same developers and you literally have to crash other cars to win some modes especially as a cop. Very good game.
@PixelationMusic definitely excited to take a look at it and MW2012!
As opposed to _Burnout_ _Paradise_ , which is _Need_ _for_ _Speed_ with a _Burnout_ skin. XD
19:52 A game to play when hanging out with friends as they smoke weed and fill their bellies with diet soda.
Ahh, back when games were made for the purpose of fun.
Also removes most of the skill involved with dodging traffic. I think burnout 3 is more satisfying personally.
No mention of Paradise's great music selection. Sad
True, it does have an expansive library of bangers. But every game from 3 on does!
I just found this video, and got the iso for Burnout 3 Takedown working on my modded ps2 :). Been playing for a bit but it's super fun. Awesome video too man.
Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed the video, this was a random suggested video and I’m glad I clicked on. Keep it up my man.
