Heya! Just to say, the spires/ pylons that protrudes out of the Habitat Ring are Phasers and Photon Torpedo Launchers-“The Emissary Part II.” When the kit was originally released the Ore Processing Facilities was always in Red Clear Styrene. I still have my Original Kit that I built twenty years ago although I bought it prior to leaving home to go to College. I remember purchasing the Kit in 1992/3? Bought it along with my Halcyon BTTF and Aliens Kits. I Love your presentations. I watch them avidly. I’m looking forward to how you build this New Version of a Classic!
Thanks for the review, it told me pretty much what I needed to know about the kit. I do plan to get it when it reaches our shores in Oz. Glad to see the extra ships and the runabouts still being included. BTW The runabout launch bays were on the habitat ring.
I 100% agree that first shot of the galaxy class with the station is way out of scale. This is deffinitly a 1/2500 model but I understand why they would choose not to label it so. The defiants size alone fluctuates sporadically for the most dramatic shots
I knew this was coming but I thought the keldon was new, didnt realise it was part of that set assumed it was a galor, not that they are much different. Really glad it comes with those decals if only to use them as a drilling template.
In high school, my best friend bought the fiber optic version of this kit and I assisted him with the build. I still have the old instructions. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure that they show making holes for the wiring.
I'm very curious how painting goes for this model kit since it's all clear plastic. My general experience with clear plastic model parts is that you really have to dig in pretty far with the sanding to get the paint to stick.
This may be a dumb question but, does the clear plastic make it any harder to paint if you plan on painting by hand ?? Never built a model with clear plastic before.
Yeah, enterprise D should have been like twice as big compared to DS9 in the pilot. later seasons they show a nebula class docked and its also way too small. Defiant on the other hand is often shown as too big compared to DS9 and Galaxy class. They never got it right. The design of the ship also makes very little sense as an ore refinery. How is both tue reactor and the ore processing facility all crammed in that relatively cramped area? it makes much more sense as a spaceport and/or defense platform.
Got a fleet of defiants I wanta get 9 total then the pylon part of the ring be where my cargo ships dock and I’m not gonna get a galaxy or nebula thinking ambassador class my fave enterprise, but each ring part would have 3 defiants yes I’m preparing for a invasion lol, gonna print off some runabouts and cargo ships im surprised we don’t get at least one cargo ship
Where did you get this from? I have been waiting months for a preorder and still waiting. I always thought preorderes were filled and shipped first. So much for preordering these days!
The main thing that puts me off from building Trek kits is the scale. I cant handle 4 ships in 1/350, a few in 1/1000 a few old ones in 1/650, and then the two ships I love the best are 1/2500 1/1400. Voyager > DS9 IMO Also B5 > Voyager > Ds9
@@lovecchio420 They make the Klingon Bird of Prey in 1/350 and I think there is talk of another one in the pipeline (Reliant I believe). I've always felt 1/1000 was too small. I like the 1/1400 scale for a lot of them even though it's awkward and doesn't match much of anything else.
@@christopherh4653 I also want them to each have an optional lighting and decal set, not just one here, one there. I really want to get into LED's but would rather just buy it in a kit.

Oooh, looks like the Keldon comes with the parts to where you could still make a Galor class.

I would love to see a build video on this!
Looking forward to your build videos, presumably one of the Defiants will be cloaked!

@@SeansModelBuilds the ships in the kit are the exactly same same as the ones in the cadet series kit, but without the Miranda class

Can't wait for the build
Hope with those 3 Defiants, someone brings out some 3rd party decals for Valiant and another ship.
Sao Paulo would be a good choice too, since that was the second Defiant. :)
@@gregsaum1701 thanks, that's what I was thinking of and couldn't remember.

Thanks for the review, I'm certain everything will look fine when assembled.
It’s kind of both scales. The habitats ring and the docking ring scales are off from each other.
Just bought the original one with fiber optics for 70$. What a deal
I've been eagerly waiting for this kit.👍🖖

:O My old DS9 kit only had 1 Defiant. I wonder if they did this for the review copies of the kits.
I want the ds9 model so bad
This may be a dumb question but, does the clear plastic make it any harder to paint if you plan on painting by hand ?? Never built a model with clear plastic before.
when is this being released?
I think they just gifted you the extra defiants and the normal kits won't have 3.
It's molded in clear plastic. No drilling needed to light it.
Some how I don't think the Keldon class ship is the same scale as the Defiant.
Can you help me to ascertain the scale of the station and the two ships, please?
@@DavidRLentz the Defiant is 1/2500, DS9 1/3200. Not sure about the cardassian ship.
@@markbelsom3174 Thanks. I am poor at maths. However, a reliable source assures me that I am in 1:1 scale.
Amazon’s listing for this kit shows the scale as 1:3300, so a good compromise overall…
Is 1:3300 correct?
Might be a dumb question or I missed it, what’s the scale of this kit?
That is the big question.
0805 smd's will work just fine on this kit
What is the scale? Computerboy2k cites a kit Amazon lists says upon the box 1:3300. Austin Arnold insists it is 1:2500.
3 Defiants? Sold. Is this kit ABS or clear polystyrene?
ABS I think.
Polystyrene.
So many defiant class ships, I can hear the borg and dominion cowering in fear.
Great review!
Looks great. So is this a similar clear plastic as the Voyager, or more the brittle kind you have to be more careful with?
Think the kit is made of ABS.
It’s the more brittle kind but it still doesn’t seem as brittle as some clear plastic I’ve seen
question comparing the size between this ds9 model and the eaglemoss xl ds9, are they about the same size?
this kid is quite a bit bigger than the XL eagleMoss model

This is a review sample direct from the manufacturer. They have not been shipped to distributors yet
If, hypothetically, you wanted to sell me a defiant... my kit i bought was missing one. no idea why... exact same kit etc.

I agree, however, they are too large to make that practical.
@@christopherh4653 1/1000 of every ship would be ok. I do like the 1/350 large kits, but I need more than just the Enterprise and D7
