  • This video is a look at the upcoming 2021 release of the 1/1000 USS Excelsior. In 2016 Round2 / AMT made several changes to the vintage USS Excelsior kit from the 90's.
In this video you'll see several close up comparisons between the vintage kit and the newest release.

The scene with the line about Sulu getting the Excelsior didn't get dropped from the script, it was filmed and exists as a reconstructed deleted scene - it's been floating around YT...

7:29 those are docking ports. They’re usually used when docking inside of a space dock like the one in ST III.

The deflector did have the spokes on the studio model. I mastered a replacement/aftermarket part using some very detailed photos of the studio model. That detail is there.

Ate they going to release the Aztec decals again with this new Excelsior? What are the chances of Polar Lights re-popping the Enterprise-B?

I recently picked up this and the older kit of the Enterprise B. Haven't decided whether or not to do the III or VI version. Could always buy another one, I suppose.
The Enterprise B kit has those things you were calling torpedo launchers molded into those parts PLUS a smooth not stepped saucer so I guess the current molds reflect that change.

Little hint about the windows: I'd put on these window decals on the unpainted parts as a very first step and then use a fine drill to drill out all of them. By that the window decals serves as stencils or template for the windows and the remains can be easily removed without damaging the paint.

Fantastic Idea! I've been going back and forth on whether or not I would light it and if I do I'm going to do this.

Fun fact: The scene promoting Sulu to captain was actually shot. Several times: Shatner just could not be bothered to act. At all. Several retakes and in the end it had to be dropped, because the quality of Shatners acting was so poor. Supposedly he did not enjoy having the spotlight on someone else than himself. Supposed by George Takei. So i get the irony of having Kirk on the cover of the Excelsior instead of Sulu. Fucked over again.

through budgetary concerns preventing the original 7ft model being filmed, Greg Jein was commissioned to build a smaller 36 inch studio model of the Excelsior to be used in Star Trek Voyager. The model features a smaller more streamlined secondary hull, which in turn makes the deflector more pronounced and in my opinion a little disproportionate from a front profile.

🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done on informatively explaining on the Excelsior and I too have a couple of the original older kits and I have a newer one like you have and it totally and most definitely a far more better detailed model than the older kits indeed and a much better decal sheet as well and so forth and so on as well!,👌.

Those two small sqaure sections on the front of the neck ( one on each side ) not everyone knows about are Shuttle Service hangers doors worker bee's use those.

Don’t beat yourself up over the windows. You did a good job. It really looks terrific lit up and nobody is going to notice if they are slightly off.

They could have done even better by molding the shuttles as separate parts all together so you can choose to either use those or any after market shuttles. And they would look more realistic than what looks like a blob of molded on plastic.

The torpedo launchers were not in the neck, the area you painted yellow on the secondary hull in the torpedo launchers

This does have some inaccuracies. The 2 aft phaser bumps atop the saucer are in the wrong spot and need to be moved forward 1 grid line, the lower hull piece is missing grid lines and when R2 made the bridge piece for the NX they went with a design that was tossed out by the people who were making ST III. Also when R2 first released the E-B they made a more accurate saucer bottom which is also included in the Excelsior kit as well as a new top piece for the lower hull. And those 2 clear pieces you say might have been for the E-B NO maybe about it they WERE part of that ship. And last the window decals for the lower hull are inaccurate plus this has 2 pieces which came with the E-B but were not included in the 2016 release of this kit, I'm referring to the 2 hatch shaped pieces that go atop the forward part of the warp nacelles.

I was looking forward to this one, since I want to build two, the ST6 version and a Nebula configuration.

Those neck squares are not torpedo areas. In Star Trek 7 , a work ship is seen leaving the Enterprise B through one. I think they might be cargo doors or some thing.

Is this kit being released in 2021?
    Also does anyone make alternate
decals for the 1/1000 TOS enterprise so
I can make the others like the Hood, Constellation, etc.

Looks nice, though I wish there were more decals included, like for the blue ring under the saucer and triangles on the bottom of the drive section.

There is a separate decal sheet made be AMT with those sections and aztecking as well. They are on CultTVMan Hobbyshop and Amazon. If you don't want the aztecing and only want the blue patterns go to Federation Models(US)

You didn't show the secondary hull, but I'm guessing still no molded windows? That's the one upgrade I'd still like to see someday.

    • @Iskelderon

    I *love* the Excelsior. 💝
My favorite design in the Star Trek universe. As well as the Daedalus-class.
I, too, did not like the design of the Excelsior when I first saw it in theaters. I thought it looked like a whale.
But, then it became my Number One favorite design.
I'm so glad we can finally have the NX version. That is my favorite design.
If I light this when I build mine, I'm thinking of lighting the nacelles in a similar way to the Constitution-class; inboard glow, outboard does not.
I'm looking forward to the rest of this build series.
Thank you for sharing this, and the additional information about the ships with us.
Be Excellent and Party on. 🤘🎸🌈😎🖖
