The Defiant has long been my favourite starship. Lovely work. I think I'd have lost my mind with those decals. Also, really enjoyed watching the wormhole take shape. Really impressive.
I have this kit in my ever growing queue of models that need building. The Defiant has always been my favourite ship in Star Trek. This turned out great!
Scribing really gives the model more interest by giving it definition and makes the model eye catching. Wormhole was nice touch.(loved the toothbrush technique). Well done!
I just finished building this model about a week ago as I was telling you in a comment from a different video. I built it along side a Romulan Warbird. I did this one a lot like you except I did a Tamiya Ocean Gray wash. Multiple coats. Also I used Tamiya 79 semi gloss and I think it’s too shiny. So I am waiting on a back order for Tamiya 80 flat cost just like you did. Excellent job brother. You are the one I learned from after all. Also I wish my wife would paint the bases like yours does. Mine bitches about the messes. Lmao. Anyways live long and prosper my friend.
Finally! Someone adding a bit of Weathering to a Starfleet Model! Utopia or not, things that are Used Show signs of that use! Without it they just resemble Cartoons!
Sooooo......as usual awesome!!! What a treat watching your partner paint the wormhole. I got excited when you first mentioned it in the video. So awesome the detail.......wonderful! Just finished the star blazers dreadnought following your video.....it came out awesome. Keep up the great work and videos!!! I need ya to make another star blazers ship please!!! How about some Garmillas now?
Wonderful job on that kit. That painting on the base is absolutely stunning. Such talent!! I've seen the studio model in-person, and it is surprisingly grungy. I don't know how much of that was applied intentionally and how much was poor cleaning during it's display tour, but it's pretty dingy.
No you should always apply the wash over the decals, otherwise you'd just be covering up all the detail. I always apply a gloss clear coat over decals before doing any weathering or washes, just to protect them from liquids which might affect them someway, especially a wash which might stain a decal if you applied it straight over.
I bought this model kit because of this video. It came way sooner than expected so now I'm scrambling to buy all the materials, paint, etc that you are using. Did I mention this is my first kit ever? So I have absolutely no supplies at the moment... or idea of what I'm doing/getting myself into LOL
Is there a link to the needed paint? Not sure what to get. I didn’t know I would have to paint the clear bits... I looked up “Testors Starfleet” and it pointed me to 9115x, but it’s not spray cans for the clear colours
Thanks for the build video i was on the fence about buying this kit i thought it was smooth & decal heavy without panel lines & details like most of round 2 small scale Trek kits.. i was wrong. i could have bought this kit along time ago😁
Hey im new to models and i was wondering if someone could share me a link for some good modeling glue and the thing to cut parts of the holder thingy lol
I dunno. For me Defiant looks goon in 2 instances. 1. Half covered in dark while undocking 2. skimming past the camera with guns blazing. Seeing it static it's just a pancake with a pig nose. Doesn't hold a candle to saucer designs IMO:)
Polar Lights 1/1000 USS Defiant model kit: amzn.to/2Bp9MbN
i guess it's kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new series online ?
@Jaxson Grady try FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Cristian Spencer Yea, been watching on flixzone for since april myself :D
@Cristian Spencer Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!
@Jaxson Grady Happy to help :)
One of Starfleets' finest! The build was awesome and the wormhole base was a nice touch🖖
Great job to both of you!
Thank you!
That wormhole was an awesome touch!
Thank you!
The Defiant has long been my favourite starship.
Lovely work. I think I'd have lost my mind with those decals.
Also, really enjoyed watching the wormhole take shape. Really impressive.
Thanks Bjørn! It was a fun process to watch. 😁
@@modelchili yes, it was wonderful watching it develop through the process. Final product is amazing.
The finished Defiant came out great too.
I've watched this whole video at least 10 times. It's incredibly soothing.
I have this kit in my ever growing queue of models that need building. The Defiant has always been my favourite ship in Star Trek. This turned out great!
Thanks!
I love the work on the model and Debz is a fantastic artist!
Thank you!
Base is stunning!!
Thanks!

Nice paint job Debs.
Amazing build. Much respect for painting a concave image on a convex surface.
Cheers!
The wormhole base......brilliant idea and beautiful execution
Thank you so much 😀
I love the base painting! It looks great.
Thank you!
Good job on the defiant - and the base is a wonderful match for it. Hopefully more collaborations in the future.
Thank you! Yeah I hope so too. 😀
Can't wait for another collab, I love painting space stuff.
Beautiful :) the wormhole turned out great
Thank you! 😊
Nice job on the model. The base idea for the worm hole is outstanding. Gave me ideas. Cheers to you and Debz.
Thanks!
Got this one built on my desk at work, great little kit! That base is amazing!!! Tell your friend she did a great job!
Thank you! I will for sure. 😁
Thank you! I loved painting the base
Nice built sitting here watching DS9
Stunning... Model and the painting of the Wormhole. Amazing work!
Nicely done ship. Love the base. She did a very good job on it!!
Thanks, yes she did!
came to this video for my first model for help with decal placement , didn't add anything but what the kit had but oh my god your version is amazing!
Thanks! I hope it helped. 😀
Just bought this kit today and find your video to be very inspirational
Nice! I hope it goes well. 😀
Very nice. Tell your friend they did an awesome job on the wormhole stand.
Thanks! Will do!
Really great! The collaboration is special as well. I am glad you are still doing TH-cam.
Thanks!
As soon as Sam said multiple thin coats my brain immediately snapped into Warhammer mode
It would be nice to see him do something like a Leman Russ or a Valkyrie, hell even an Imperial Knight
Sweet build that wormhole base is really awesome!
Glad you like it!
Quedó súper bueno, la base espectacular felicitaciones
Really enjoy the ambient music in this video. Great build as always, Sam!
Glad you liked it!
Absolutly nice work!
Thanks!
love the wormhole base!! fantastic work overall!
She may have flaws, but she has teeth.
Amazing build!
Cheers!
Wormhole base is very nicely done.
Yeah she did an amazing job!

Looks great. Very nicely done.
Great job, and that base is really sonething special👍
Nice Defiant and the base is amazing, love the vid

Hey Man. Looks like the real thing. Great job.
Thank you!
Looks great!

Thank you! Yeah I'm often surprised at how dirty a lot of Trek studio models are close up.
Think iv watched this video about 4 times now, brilliant!!
Ha awesome!
Loved the build!
Great collaboration as well.
Keep up the good work. :)
Thanks Vaughan!
Nice work guys! 👍
Thank you! 👍
very cool ship, very different. probably my favortie besides the voyager
Wonderful
Thanks!
Beautiful sir and ma'am
I’ve never built a model kit, so I wanted to ask if the wash will cause the decals to come off? Could you apply the wash prior to placing the decals?
No you should always apply the wash over the decals, otherwise you'd just be covering up all the detail. I always apply a gloss clear coat over decals before doing any weathering or washes, just to protect them from liquids which might affect them someway, especially a wash which might stain a decal if you applied it straight over.
Thanks Sam, love the music.

Looks great Sam! I would have painted that brass rod black though..kind of takes away from that awesome base. Just My opinion.
Cheers! Cool idea, I prefer to keep my stands unpainted though. 😀
Love the build! I think you should try building Captain Rex as a future project! 😆
That would be cool!
I just bought this kit, and it is ALL because of your video! (I also liked and subscribed!).
Awesome! Thank you!
Thats alotta water decals
Very nice
Thanks!
Bravo 👏🏻
A credit to your wife for painting the wormhole effect on the model base it brightens up a plain base and yourself for the defiant build.
Thank you!
Is there a link to the needed paint? Not sure what to get. I didn’t know I would have to paint the clear bits... I looked up “Testors Starfleet” and it pointed me to 9115x, but it’s not spray cans for the clear colours
Pretty sure there are after market decals that those brittle sheets.
Would like to see you get into 40k minis, especially Necrons
This is a model I'd like to see about 3 times larger with a light kit.
Thanks for the build video i was on the fence about buying this kit i thought it was smooth & decal heavy without panel lines & details like most of round 2 small scale Trek kits.. i was wrong. i could have bought this kit along time ago😁
Cheers!
More for the landfill.
what is that putty you used for blocking off the clear parts?
That's just blu-tack
What is that putty you’re using?
Polar Lights is notorious for thin brittle decals. They cause me to curse in languages I don’t natively speak!
Same here. I was cussing in Klingon like it was going out of style!
Non mi piace molto l'usura dei panelli che hai cercato di raffigurare... ma la base dipinta da Tunnel Spaziale è un vero gioiello !!!! 👍
Hey im new to models and i was wondering if someone could share me a link for some good modeling glue and the thing to cut parts of the holder thingy lol
Check out my new Amazon storefront! www.amazon.com/shop/modelchiliscalemodels
The model looks great.
The only thing that gets me is how beefy the panel lines are.
You should try playing Star Trek Online! There are lots of unique designs and ships inspired by the originals!
I did play it for a while a few years ago, got up to Captain rank I think.
what did you use to mask the areas?
Blu-tack
Overall a nice kit, but those canyon-like panel lines made this a "no" for me to personally build. Yours came out very nice, though.
Yeah, those panel lines were what kept me from getting the kit.
Cheers!
I agree i think the defiant is scaled too big😳 always thought of it as the size of the Millennium Falcon😁
I think it's bigger than the Falcon. Has a crew compliment of 50.
@@bjrnhalfhand2258 yeah i know but not as big as a Constitution class starship comparison seen in this video
@@scifiguy26 no you're right there. Didn't Constitution crew 100-150, something like that?
@@bjrnhalfhand2258 crew 430
I dunno. For me Defiant looks goon in 2 instances. 1. Half covered in dark while undocking 2. skimming past the camera with guns blazing. Seeing it static it's just a pancake with a pig nose. Doesn't hold a candle to saucer designs IMO:)
🙂👍🏽📽
Seems like it would've been easier just to paint the dark gray parts rather than use the decals...
Just a comment for
the algorithm.
Great job. The Defiant is a very poor design though - looks like some sort of remote control complete with thumb button to me.
Thanks!
Just a comment for the algorithm.
