Football Player's EPIC Trash-Talking - Guilty Or Not Guilty?

  • "All eyes will be on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning in this year's Super Bowl, but all ears are pricking up to hear the Seattle Seahawks' cocky cornerback, Richard Sherman.
    The third-year defensive star has grabbed the spotlight for Feb. 2's big game - and that has to do with his noisy talk as much as his outstanding play.
    Sherman made a game-clinching move in the final seconds of Seattle's win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, then dove headfirst into a trash-talk tirade in front of a national TV audience moments later.
    "I'm the best corner in the game!" an animated Sherman told Fox Sports' Erin Andrews. "When you try me with a sorry receiver like (the 49ers' Michael) Crabtree, that's the result you are going to get! Don't you even talk about me!""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

    What the hell is up with the racist comments about this incident? White hockey players literally beat each other's brains in night after night and most people just cheer. A black man gets heated and brags and all of a sudden it's cause for a racial condemnation? WTF? Double standards much?

    crabtree was talking smack the whole game mainly because they were ahead of the seahawks until the 4th quarter. and its true, sherman didn't get many plays because colin was throwing the ball anywhere that sherman wasn't. so that's why sherman went off. colin failed the 49ers they should be pissed off at him.

I didnt watch the whole video because I quickly realized it had no actual content to it besides football talk.. which I could care less about since I watch TYT for news and commentary on things that matter. Football isnt in either of those categories for me.. So when I see a 14min video on sports and a 3min video on things like Iran.. Ill point it out as it should be the other way around.

    Football is a very violent and competitive sport. The culture embellishes a violent behavior so much to the point even the fans are violent and competitive. You tell this man he has to be toughest player on the field and be aggressive then when he's off the field you want him to act like a gentlemen. I'm sorry it doesn't work that way.

    The bottom line is that Sherman is getting all this flack, because he's a black man who has the audacity to be talented, and not be modest about it. Ali's trash talking ways weren't accepted until after his boxing career, Kanye's trash talking will never be, because in all honesty, he takes it to another level that's just weird. Floyd Mayweather is another great example, he's good and has the audacity to tell you, he knows he's good.Point being, society, wants the exceptional in the black community to not acknowledge their own exceptionalism. They like the example's of MLK and Nelson Mandela, in sports and entertainment, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods (pre-affair at least). These are all examples of exceptional black men, who were non-confrontational and at least when it came to public image, kept it very humble (Jordan was an asshole, but he kept that close to the vest, media never saw that). To a degree this applies to people of all races, granted. But you look at Dan Marino and Brettt Farve, these guys had the same "diva-ish" tendencies that T.O. and Randy Moss were accused of (not wanting to practice in the off-season, belittling teammates, shirking responsibilty, not being accountable, etc.) it had a different flavor, so to speak, because of the cultural differences, but the behaviors were the same, the backlash wasn't. Props to Richard Sherman.

    • @Shineynsparkles
      @Shineynsparkles 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know what kills me most ...Whites will spend millions for season tickets and cherish black players that represent their teams on the field then when they realize that the black player is far more superior to their white counter parts they freak out.
      One day when Blacks start owning and running football and basketball these closet racist white are gonna have as fit and idk why!!! They hypocrisy is to real!!!

    • @derekj773
      @derekj773 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't go that far, man. It would be great if there were black owned sports franchises. That's still a ways away though. But I'll say that I have no problem with anything the man said, he's a football player, he gets paid, very lucratively, to play a violent sport, it doesn't surprise me that after playing said violent sport he's super hyped. Nothing was directed persoanlly at Erin Andrews, but her reactions and the visual of "angry black man" yelling at "little white blonde girl" got alot of people's goat. Everything he said was completely within the bounds of sport, he didn't take his comments off the field into the personal (at least during this interview, dunno what he did subsquently) so outside of the tone and the visual as I said earlier, I don't know what he did wrong. Was it smoooth, no. Was it standard sportspeak, no. But I didn't know, not being smooth was a crime. In that case I think many of us are guilty of that crime.

    " You are not bragging if you can back it up" -Muhammad Ali- Sherman was not bragging, he is the best cornerback in the business today. And the guy worked hard at it, since he had to switch offensive wild receiver position to defensive, and he is good at what he does. I'm sure he has a beef with Crabtree going back since last summer, he felt he was disrespected. He was emotional, fired up and wanting to win. All NFL coaches would love to have him in their teams.

    Ya know...I was totally on the side of Sherman being a prick and a disrespectful player when this first happened. Then I re-watched the game footage, listened to him miced up during the game and watched that final play and confrontation with the mic on. Sherman really did show respect to the refs and the other team. Even offered Crabtree his hand after the game telling him "hell of a game" and then Crabtree punched his face mask. He then went over and told other niner players good game and professed that he hoped Navarro Bowman was ok and even said "Tell him Sherm said he hopes he's ok." Sure he let his emotions get the best of him in the interview after being fired up by Crabtree's antics. But he was well justified when I found out all the shit Crab has been giving him all year from a celebrity golf and softball tourney as well as during the season. Sherm made a mistake, however i'm willing to give him a pass on this one now that I have all the info and have come to an informed conclusion. See...Even I react on emotion and say shit before thinking. GL in the superbowl Richard.

    Grew up a Niners fan, born and raised in SF. First of all, I KNEW Kaepernick was going to throw an interception. Watching it online, I called it 20-30 seconds before it happened. Anybody who's watched football game after football game has seen this same fucking scripted story over and over again. The game is close, the team behind is about to come back, but then, "awww, man" the QB throws an interception JUST as they're about to score. Bullshit.
    Second of all. Of course he had a right to talk trash, not only before and during the game, but also after the game as well. So I disagree with Cenk. Where I agree with Cenk is the choking part. If he wanted to do that before or during the game, alright. But after the game, doing the choking gesture is excessive.

  • @Boom-wd7pn
    @Boom-wd7pn 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think one of the reasons people hate Richard Sherman is because he is without a doubt by and far the best CB in the game right now and every single time he talks trash he backs it up. Not most of the time - every single time and he's a more intense consistent trash talker than anyone else. So you have to hear him talk all sorts of shit before the game and then play him and get shut down and beat and then have him tell you how much you suck afterwards and how he's better. It frustrates people because the only way to stop it is to beat him and no one really can.

    Sherman made a game-winning play to take his team to the Super Bowl, none of us will ever know how that feels like. We don't understand the emotions rushing through him as he made that interview.
    Let's not forget all game long the 49ers avoided throwing the ball in his direction and then with the game on the line Kaepernick throws a potential game-winning touchdown to the guy he's defending in the endzone and he makes an incredible play to stop the 49ers comeback and give his team the win and a Super Bowl berth. That might have been the best moment of his life so far, don't hate the guy for it!

  • @DustinMikkelsen

    Cenk, Manning won't go near Sherman, he's got four other guys to throw to. I think Seattle's safeties will have a bigger chance of making an impact than Sherman. Peyton knows how hot he is right now, there's no reason to test him. The Broncos will run the ball and throw off of play action, watch.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again - I don't see what the problem is. The guy just scored a huge pivotal victory of the season and finally defeated a personal rival who he claims talked trash about him earlier. How do you expect a young, hyped-up man full of testosterone just winning a football game will react moments after winning? It doesn't make him dumb or classless at all. Dude had a 3.9 GPA in college, so he's probably not a dummy. I'm sure you could get Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins, Francis Collins, Michio Kaku and Stephen Hawkins (if he could shout) to react like that too if you put them in a certain situation. Everyone still has human emotion.
    The only people who should be upset should be 49ers and Crabtree fans. lol

      G0d1e55Marcu5 The problem with Richard Sherman is that he did it right after a big game by intentionally rubbing in the guy's face. Instead of making it about his team, he made it about himself!! He didn't even get the interception!! His TEAMMATE DID!!! All of those other players you mentioned did talk trash but they do it before and during the game! Richard Sherman did it after a great team win thus making the victory about himself which was shameful, selfish, and pathetic!!

    Coded language isn't really that coded now is it?? Funny how that works

    What the other justices beside Cenk don't understand is that this is a professional job!! In this JOB you have to represent your company in the best light regardless of what some other man was saying about you...Richard Sherman didn't do a bad thing but he just picked the wrong time & venue to do it (do it on Twitter or Facebook when you get home, not on national television)....after the game, it should have been about the team but he made it about himself and it was selfish & pathetic......

On social media though, people may call people racist names when they aren't even racist because of anonymity and they say things they don't mean when they are mad. But TYT in general makes everything a racial issue, but no one would hate this guy if he behaved properly; even though that definition is up to society to define.

    Not Guilty!! If this is what is considered a controversy then we have a problem. This is trash talking that's all. The media acts like Crabtree & Kapernick went to the locker room and started crying. These are grown ass men, if a little trash talk does as damaging to these players as the media is making it out to be then they better stay off the internet.

    I was so happy to see Richard Sherman completely throw the away the concept of "fake modesty" and say what was really on his mind. I have little respect for people who try to convince others that they think one way when they aren't fooling anyone, in that aspect. When you trashtalk someone, you better be prepared to take what you dish out when you lose, especially when you initiate it. It's not like this is the offseason and Sherman is still talking about it, this was literally minutes after he ultimately shut Crabtree up.

"News reporters" wouldn't know anything about that. And another thing, his team won the game, yeah? He can talk as much trash as he wants. "I believe we call that - bragging rights". SMH!

  • @TheTruthDragonNJ09

    So let me get this straight....
    Sherman gets a pass for not knowing when to keep his composure and act like the PROFESSIONAL athlete that he is because "he's just a football player in the moment"? Come on TYT (except Cenk).... Get the fuck outta here with that. Do you realize the implications of those comments?! That's saying that we should never except an articulate analysis of a player describing his own actions because they're just jocks. Holy shit I can't believe Jayar of all people didn't realize what he was saying.

    • @Odysseus087

      "implications of these comments"... WHAT? man, fuck you. If i was in that situation I'd do everything exactly the way sherman did. at least hes honest! at least hes himself! yes, hes a "PROFESSIONAL athlete". but that doesnt mean he can't be emotional and animated about the fucking game.
      Finally we see some toughness in a league full of pussies these days. IF A PLAYER CAN'T TALK A LITTLE TRASH THAN THIS ISNT FOOTBALL ANYMORE!

    • @smoothbrother69
      @smoothbrother69 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      being a professional athlete means you can talk the trash before or after the game. Where in his contract does it say he cant talk like that? As a matter of fact the NFL should thank him for making the rivalry between these teams even more bitter.

    • @TheTruthDragonNJ09
      @TheTruthDragonNJ09 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Messer
      In case you didn't notice it while watching live, he didn't even answer the initial question the report asked! I understand all that trash talking stuff. I was an athlete myself. But there's a way to display it that makes this league only fit for professional athletes. He could have described the play as the reporter asked and *then* thrown shots at his rival. It wasn't professional conduct in a championship game. Leave that shit in the regular season and be humble.
      Seahawks still have to play the Superbowl. If they lose then guess who has more ammo to dish out? Yep, the rival. "You talked all that trash about how you the best, and your team LOST!!!!" That's why the pros stay humble until the very end.

    • @TheTruthDragonNJ09
      @TheTruthDragonNJ09 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      smoothbrother69
      Straw man argument. Every athlete has a conduct clause in their contracts. It's why Terrell Owens kept getting fired from team after team. You can trash talk all you want, it's how you present that trash talk that makes you worthy of being in a professional league. Those guys don't just go out and play ball for *you*, they do it for the money. And to get that money, you have to be an all-around professional by how you conduct yourself. As an athlete, you're your own brand. Stupid mistakes can tarnish it.
      Also worth mentioning, the coach didn't like that interview either. That bit of info came out after TYT did this story.

    Anna's obsession with denouncing 'false modesty' is quite odd. While it is true that often people are lying and simply conforming to social expectations, what's really obnoxious are people who show that they genuinely have no humility, and believe it is socially healthy to constantly boast about oneself. Maybe she has been reading too much Ayn Rand or something.
