- "A frightening, and fiery, scene occurred during an Asian Champions League quarterfinal match between Iranian club Sepahan FC and Al-Ahli SC of Saudi Arabia at Shahr Stadium in Iran on Wednesday. While a teammate was arguing with officials near a corner flag, Sepahan midfielder Adel Kolahkaj picked up something off the ground and casually tossed it off the field...".* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur break it down on The Young Turks.

A real grenade would kill everyone with in like 10 Ft or something because of the shrapnel
Grenade? That's a match bomb, a harmless prank in that situation.
The grenades that I played with in the army, 34 years ago, never made ANY flames (let alone a cold red flame), they were lethal to anyone standing within 3 - 5 meters... that looked more like flash paper or loose black powder in a paper bag. Harmless prank.
What's a gambit?
How did you miss the explosion? And where was the gas?
how did it do no damage to the advertising board?
I tried watching this video on yahoo... but the video didn't work.
How do you know O.o this information were you there ?
imagine fifa afghanistan 2022
***** That would be fun :p
what do you base the statement that it was a "fire cracker" and not some kind of improvised explosive on?
That was amazing piece of video. Their must be a lot of pressure on the players and referees.
wtf number 4 walked towards the explosion ?
they gotta put an area mic in the control room so we can hear what they are saying (just have Jayarr turn the volume up or down as necessary
Exactly.
If that is a grenade, the 3 men 1 meter away are captain america, the hulk and iron man.
Was that a smoke grenade? There wasn't any shrapnel. I'm confused
do they tackle like they do in football?
why, pray tell, is the word grenade in quotes?
I don't even get this point
The concussive force on the brain of heading a football is actually greater than that of someone being slammed in gridiron.
I got a soccer commercial before this vid lol
Thank you-I'd forgotten about the 'Fire Festival'.
Isn't if forbidden in some areas?
then wouldn't it have gone off when it hit the field?
Oh well that makes the whole situation so much more pleasant and good-timey-feeling
Ok, upon further examination you are correct. The flag stand (not familiar with soccer, the yellow post thing with fabric on it) doesn't even wiggle and the yellow smoke is extremely odd for a conventional grenade.
not all grenades have shrapnel????
weird it didn't detonate on first impact from who threw it the first time...
Portuguese?
True, not all grenades are the same, but that thing look like an hand made big firecracker, you can see the dust igniting in a big cloud of fire so perhaps the dust was poorly compressed or poorly contained.
Of course, holding in your hand would result in a big damage so it's not a joke, but grenades are designed to kill people, and if they fail the target being 1 meter away they have not much use.
it's either a hand made "bomb" or a big firecracker, but not a designed weapon.
"You all talk about Mary every time you get upset"
Hahahahhaha, you mean "porca madonna" ... yes we do, ask google translator what that means XD XD XD
Why am I not suprised that this happened at a soccer game
It exploded about 25cm above the ground, and had previously fallen presumably at least 10m to land on the pitch; clearly it had a time fuse.
I honestly thought his arm was going to get blown off.
3:15 (in the background) That's John's laughter, alright. lol
...what?
Maybe it was an impact not a timed grenade?
Your logic is devastating, if no one dies, it is not a grenade. Thumbs up dude.
Typically explosive spherical throwing objects are referred to as grenades, kind of a generic term.
it may have been a decommissioned grenade packed with gunpowder or something else.
that was 'grenade' the same way a BB is a shotgun slug.
If you're implying that it is therefore harmless, I want you to hold one in your hand while it explodes to demonstrate it.
Nah, it is 25 feet kill radius and 50 feet injury radius
Wikipedia says the death range is 8 meters, and the shrapnel radius is 15 meters.
The word "fire-cracker" means that, hand made or not, it is designed to make noise more than to kill people ... of course it's very dangerous, but the point is that a grenade is a wepon designed to kill, those things explode at least 50 times at every soccer match, because for some reason they like to hear the "boom".
i like how one of the players just threw their hands in the air like wtf is htis...cant we play
To show that serious injuries do occur in football, in this case your leg being almost broken completely off.
when there is a top game especialy two big rivals they do this
I've seen bigger explosions than that trying to get rid of an infestation of Emus
Also, at a 200 when he needed to be at a 0 - lol - love Ana's smirk at the end.
Seconds away from serious pain
YOU GUY'S BRIGHTEN MY DAY ;)
This was in Iran, hooligans in europe is not as prevalent as it was in the past.
If that was a real grenade, those 4 people wouldn't be around to talk about it.
you have to remember a football pitch is usually hard ground so all the blast goes sidewards not down like it does on soft ground, someone would at least have been knocked over if it had been an m67 which has a bigger blast anyway.
0:36 "there is no blow up action, just smoke and sound" -goooooooooooooz
I friend of mine who used to be in the army told me that minimum safe distance from a hand granade is 14 feet at ground level so this wasn't a granade... smoke granade?
for a moment I hot snookie had invaded the pitch....
That's no grenade. Some kind of fireworks. Pretty wild, though.
"You Catch Some Feelings Right?" .....lmaooo!
Must have had a faulty fuse, the impact clearly set it off when he threw it. It's lucky it didn't go off on initial impact.
not all grenades have shrapnel.
It exploded on impact, I doubt it had a timer, a lock or anything like that.
American football should never be compared to a bunch of guys playing footsie with a ball.
I would argue that a lighter is not designed to be thrown.
"There are no Italian atheists"
LOL, who told you that? Google translator? XD
Soccer is seen as a kid's game? I lol'd
Don't pretend, Steve.
i thought grenade explosions where bigger
Football shouldn't be this violent...respect.
someone give this guy a medal
Grenades have about a 15ft kill radius and 45ft probable injury radius. If that had been a real grenade, those guys would be riddled with shrapnel.
If this is *normal* there, I'm glad I'm here.
You see the little box next to you? Take it, open it, take the pills, go to bed.
I guess you didn't see one of the guys grabbing his ear...
I now nothing about this, I'm serious when I ask you, what was it then?
wait, that's the strength of a grenade?
haha the ref though it was his spray can..watch him. so but who is juan zatawany?
If he had held it for another second he wouldn't have lost his hand. It was an impact grenade meaning it doesn't explode until it hits something.
How pissed must that crazy bomber been? He goes to all that trouble and some INCREDIBILY lucky player tosses his shit away like it was nothing.
One does not simply ignore their caps lock.
Its not a (hand) grenade, they would be sprayed with shrapnel.
Its more likely a flash-bang or similar.
That's not a grenade... no shreps. Just an explosive.
I'll take your word for it but that's quite a fireball and shockwave for a 'firecracker'! o0
that is not a real grenade, i can assure you i mean look how close
Yeah I know. So therefore it wasnt a real nade. It was maybe at most 10 feet away.
I love how he says, "I guess they're looking for some sort of excuse to be violent or ridiculous. Whether it's England or whatever.." :P
probably not a fragmentation grenade. Didn't even look like military issue with such a small explosion.
Seen the footage from another source..there is NO ball of flame.
Search for "grenade" on wiki. First sentence:
"A grenade is any explosive device designed to be thrown by hand."
that grenade was not live until he picked it up... im 100% sure he looked at it and realized what it was, pulled the pin and tossed it
Perhaps it was Peter Griffin and his "Thinking Grenades"
You should try stand by it and hear it blow.
tsk! tsk! what's up doc?
A grenade exploding that close to anyone would have ripped them apart...it was probably an improvised explosive.
Why shoudn't they bring role-playing games into the stadium?
Soccer player accidentally saves everyone... lol
It is counterintuitive, but yes, it looks homemade and even old conventional grenades had fuse realiability issues. My guess is, the "device" needed to impact the ground in a certain angle to detonate.
If he would have kicked or waited a second or threw it near his teammates....it would have exploded.....
Thats really a narrow escape
I'll admit this, but that grenade explosion caught me off guard
that was not a smoke grenade, smoke grenades don't explode like that. he though it behind the wall so it didn't much damage and the smoke that was seen was dust from the feild
i think what detonated it was the force ot hit the ground with
The game was in Iran and it was a "team" from Saudi Arabia vs a "team" from Iran
