Does anyone remember the fake viral post that circulated on tumblr claiming there was a different species of human born with purple eyes that will grow no body hair for their entire life.
That's still in circulation on Pinterest and my soul leaves my body every time it asserts itself into my line of sight. I don't look at anything remotely related to it, and yet it continues to haunt me like the spectre of a lover from my past life, unable to let me be free. As someone who has literally never used Tumblr, I feel like I'm a wizard discovering an ancient and bizarre civilization with a dialect few can still read
I've got that, mixed with the drastically opposing feeling of knowing that I'm actually older than these ancients.
As someone who only saw like 5 tumblr posts a year because of pinterest... it really is
I joined tumblr in early 2015. And by then, i wasnt even aware of Dashcon, or culture surrounding the platform before.
What i did witness was the height of the Steven Falls Over (and other cartoons) during 2015. I remember it being called: "The Great Summer Hiatus of 2015" and almost every cartoon fandom was making up crossover content to get through.
Oh and 2017-2018, i also witnessed a Boom in the Teen Musical fandom with the formation and height of "Hamilton Heathers Hansen" ( and later Be More Chill).
I kinda felt a sense of misplaced nostalgia seeing everyone talking about superwholock , Onceler, Homestuck, etc..

@erin Its ancient history at this point. but after The Fault in our Stars came out it blew up on tumblr. both the green bothers had a pretty visible presence on tumblr and would directly interact with fans when they would tag them ect, which looking back is a recipe for disasters but this was like 2012-2014 and no one really knew any better.
Also at the time when you reblogged something you could edit someone elses post and make it look the said something else. So someone edit a john green post with some wild nsfw paragraph and it became a meme. Shortly after that ability was taken off tumblr and the rumor was that John had been the reason for that. He said recently that he never went to tumblr about it and it had nothing to do with but who really knows.
But john did become a huge victim of the "I hate it because its popular" complex that was rampent on tumblr at the time and people would make nasty hate posts about him, accuse him of wild stuff ect and tag him in it. I think he left tumblr shortly after that and I am not surprised.
People still joke about bullying him off tumblr but i think as a whole people are better about not tagging creators in hate posts about them.

It’s kinda crazy because when this was all happening, I didn’t have tumblr but had Instagram, so I just relied on this insta account to post screenshots and this is how I saw all of these relics and got introduced to superwholock via osmosis
