    Thank you so much for posting this. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my middle knuckle was hurting after class and almost gave up Muay Thai because I couldn't stand the knuckle pain. Now when I spread my fingers out wide when I wrap I have no issues. Thanks!

    Thanks a lot! This was pissing me off to no end. I conditioned my knuckles for a decade, hitting steel, and other very hard surfaces. I reached the point where I felt NOTHING if I were to smash my fist onto a steel table. I also was able to hit the bag WITHOUT gloves, and everything was working great. I started to take the sport seriously and started wrapping my hands/wearing gloves.. and in the FIRST session I felt this middle knuckle pain.. was pretty unbelievable. Thank you for making this!

      My suggestion is go easy the first few sessions. Then get Ice on the knuckles afterwards for 20 mins EACH time . Gradually increase punch power as you feel confident. I'd use 16oz gloves too if you're on a heavy bag. GOOD LUCK !

      @@jayfomin not unless the padding is shot in them. 12oz should also offer plenty of protection. My advice is use 10-12oz for pads ( use a contest weight glove for pads so that you get used to them but use 16oz for heavy bag work for the knuckle protection. Only a suggestion. maybe buy yourself some 16's as a Christmas present !!!

      @@jayfomin is it ok to use 14oz for pads, I’m also having a lot of problems with my middle knuckle, I’ve been resting it the past 6 weeks but it’s defiantly not 100% yet, I’ve been previously using 12 oz then started having pain in middle finger knuckle so I bought some winning knuckle guards and was continuing to hit pads with them but that has probably made it worse and the pain was still there when punching, I’m really eager to get back training in the new year and I’m thinking if I get new 14 oz gloves it will offer that little bit more protection I also have pretty small hands so I don’t want this to be a issue in the future

    • @kanem104
      @kanem104 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I’m not really sure what is actually wrong with it sometimes it bruises up without me really touching it and sticks out a lot more than it used to it’s not really sore to touch but if i was to hit the bag it would give me issues straight away it feels like there’s a penny inside of the knuckle and it doesn’t seem to be returning to its usual shape is there anything you’d recommend to speed up recovery time

    Question. I've been dealing with this sore knuckle thing for weeks now since I started punching the bag. Is this just something to be expected? Or should I be taking a break to let it rest and get better? When I first started punching I didn't wrap my hands, just had gloves. Since the pain I made sure to get some hand wraps and they help but the pain is still there sometimes. I'll take the advice in this video and make sure my fingers are stretched next time. And I'll also do the the hands in ice and water and see how that helps.

    • @Boxercise
      @Boxercise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also just take the first 2-3 rounds easy in each session. Hands take longer to warm up than muscles as most of the tissue is fascia and tendons. They have a poorer blood supply so take longer to warm up.
      When you get back into hitting the bag just do 3 rounds the first day then add a round each day and see how you go. Some peoples hands are good for 20 rounds and others for 6. Take it easy until you figure that one out. Good luck !

  • @dedloz8409

    Hey, thanks alot for you sharing this information with us! I've been doing kicbox for 9 years now, funny eneough I would wrap my hands the wrong way as you mentioned in the video, without really even noticing it, but now recently the pain would get insane in the middle of the workout, to the point where I would have intense pain even if I just squeezed a fist after punching the bag for a while. I went to the doctor and I was told I have a chronic sagital band injury (It's not fractured or anything) just injured from all the years. I was told to have no phisical contact with the knuckles for 6 months, and if it doesn't get better in 6 months I need to take a surgery. My question is, do you think the surgery would actually get my knuckles to their old self? And what do you think my safest method would be to punch, to gradually build up streanght in the knuckles without injuring them, since I can begin punching again in 2-3 months. Thanks for your answer in advance!

    • @Boxercise
      @Boxercise  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Truthfully I’m not an orthopaedic surgeon so I wouldn’t know if your knuckles will get back to ‘normal ‘ . Certainly I doubt it because they will have sustained damage from punching ( just like mine ). I hope it helps a little though

      1. Get ice on it 2 times a day for 15-20 mins
      2. Don't use the knuckle for 6 weeks ( work on other aspects of your training).
      3. See a doctor if it still hurts after 6 weeks.

      3. use sparring gloves ( a good pair)
      4. Ice the knuckle immediately after use

      @@dillonmcculley8224 of course dude ! 3 years or not. I'm a boxing coach and want to help boxers and coaches. It's literally my full time job coaching coaches . I just hope the ice bucket helps you. It's quite common that heavy hitters get this problem.

    My middle knuckle is naturally very prominent/pointy when I make a fist, so when I'm boxing it will often swell and bruise. I don't use gloves because I don't really like to, but I always wrap my hands properly. So I was wondering if you knew something that would help prevent me hurting my knuckles that hopefully didn't mean I have to wear gloves?

      @Boxercise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really I’m afraid . If you do hit hard and you don’t wear gloves the likelihood of hand injury is higher - not much that you can really do about that . Perhaps wear gloves occasionally just to ‘rest’ the knuckles. ?
      It’s quite common for martial artists to not use gloves - they call it ‘hand conditioning ‘ it’s a valid technique but just not practised in boxing very much .

      if it's injured get ice on it and rest it until it's better ( may take 6 weeks)

    I hurt my knuckle months ago like this. It's not getting better. What do I do?

    • @Boxercise
      @Boxercise  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      go and see a doctor to get it diagnosed - it's not possible to dignose via a thread on YT . Meantime get an ice cube and rub it in to the knuckle 3 times a day . But definitely ask your doctor
