  • If you're a boxer or you're interested in the sport, you may have noticed that your hands often get bruised after training or fighting. In this video, we'll discuss why a boxer's hands hurt and get bruised.
Firstly, it's important to understand that boxing involves a lot of repetitive impact on the hands. Every time a boxer throws a punch, the force is absorbed by their hands and transferred to their opponent's body. Over time, this can cause micro-trauma to the bones and tissues in the hands, which can lead to pain, inflammation, and bruising.
Additionally, boxers typically wrap their hands with hand wraps and wear gloves to protect their hands. However, these protective measures can only do so much, especially if a boxer is throwing a lot of punches or hitting hard surfaces like heavy bags or mitts. Even with hand wraps and gloves, the impact can still cause bruising and soreness.
Finally, a boxer's technique can also contribute to hand injuries. For example, if a boxer doesn't have proper form when punching, they may put too much stress on their knuckles or wrists, leading to injuries. Similarly, if a boxer hits an opponent's elbow or other hard parts of the body, this can also cause bruising and pain.
Overall, a boxer's hands get bruised and hurt due to the repetitive impact of throwing punches, limited protection from hand wraps and gloves, and improper technique. It's important for boxers to take steps to protect their hands, such as using proper technique, resting when necessary, and seeking medical attention if they experience persistent pain or swelling.

This is the first guy ever on TH-cam or someone i meet yo say never do heavy bag under 16 oz gloves and his right . Mine is 150 cm 63 kg hell naw with 10 oz you can break your fingers easy , even with 12 oz is painful 😣 . Especially the middle finger , knuckle. Most pain you feel when you hit liver body shots cause most of the finger area lamds on the bag too . Also on every website youll see gloves size depends on height and weight parallel. Ideal weight for fighters is 6-8 kg under your height. Example if you 170 cm you gotta be 163 -161 . Something like that . We talking about if you wanna compete .

I know I'm a little late, but I started boxing maybe a week ago or two, and I think I actually punched the bag wrong, because now my wrist/base of my hand has been hurting, any advice yall could give me?

How do you manage to still fit your hand into the gloves when using sponges? I tried the Hayabusa knuckle guards, but my hands won’t fit well into any glove while wearing them. I’ve even tried two brands of 16 oz gloves (Cleto and Hayabusa T3).
Even training only once a week, my hands are incredibly sore for 5-7 days after 1-hour sessions consisting mostly of mitt work.

New gloves that arent quite broken in may make it difficult to fit until you have fully broken them in. posibly try using less wrap on top of the knuckles to decrease to volume they take up (the sponge should be plenty of knuckle protection. Pad work depending on who is holding them can be hard on the knuckles if your coach is slapping your gloves hard. Try adding in some heavy bag or aqua bag work to supplement and mabey cut back on the mitts. Hope this helps!

What If my whole hand hurts, not the nuckels, the palm area. It even hurts when I’m squeezing my hand a little bit

Sounds like you may need to refocus on form rather than force. When I solidified my form and mastered the technique (as well as best fitted gloves and wrapping!) I can punch as hard as I can for a while w MUCH less pain, bruising and injury

the only thing that hurts when i get done with bag work is like my palms... like not necessarily my palm but like the base of the thumb like that thick piece of meat. it doesnt feel like any bone strain... more like muscle soreness

On a bag over 52-55 kg gloves over 14 oz ! dont care your size or weight . Obviously the more taller you are and more weight bigger gloves . Your phalanges under the knukcles will hurt the most when you hit those liver / body shots , with lighter gloves you gonna feel the pain the most .

I had joint pain (I think from tight wraps) and I went to a masseuse and she did a tendon release massage on every one of my fingers for literally maybe five minutes on each hand and the pain completely went away. Just get a masseuse to do that for u
