  • A video essay about the 3 primary narrative tropes that emerge in multiverse stories, understanding what makes them tick and what separates the good, the bad and the weird.
Can you think of any multiverse stories that don't use any of these tropes? Let me know about them in the comments! I can think of one...

The danger of big stakes is that we don't necessarily believe a creator will pull the trigger, especially if they've faked us out before. That and it's harder to identify with and get invested in the entire universe ending or whatnot. Comparatively small stakes feel like they could actually happen, so they're more threatening.

I love multiverse stories simply because they have the ability to tell the story they want to tell without basic boundaries, without those baseline 'rules' of a set universe they can explore more creative examples of stories we might not have could told sticking to one universe. My favorite example of a multiverse, while not always intersecting with each other or having interactions with eachother (cept for a few exceptions) is the spawn comics because there are several different spawns just with different outcomes from their decisions only being connected by that deal with malebolgia.
Apologies if this it bizarrely worded, I'm exhausted

I think multiverse facilitate a lot of stories in that way, the marvel zombies arc simply doesn't work without a multiverse for instance.
