The Haval Jolion isn't a familiar name in Australia just yet, but with aggressive pricing, impressive standard equipment, lots of safety across the range and an interesting, more-expensive-looking-than-it-actually-is design, it's going to become one of the go-to small SUVs on the market.
The GWM Haval Jolion is a Chinese-made SUV, but it's here to take on the big name players in the small SUV segment, like the Kia Seltos, Mitsubishi ASX, Hyundai Kona, Toyota C-HR and Yaris Cross, and plenty of others besides.
In this review, Richard Berry shrugs off his lockdown tracky dacks and gets back in the groove with the 2022 Haval Jolion, explaining what the name means, why it's important for the brand, what you get in each of the different grades, and he nominates his sweet spot in the line-up. It's not the variant you might expect, either.
It's not all rosy - there are a few shortfalls for this small SUV - but overall, it is one of the surprise packets of the year. Watch the video to find out why, and read Richard's detailed review in the link below.

We own a 2017 H2 Lux and we love it. Very comfy on a long trip. Still looks brand new as it should and has been perfectly reliable. Like this Jolion, was extraordinary value for money. Anyone shopping on a budget should really have a look at Haval.

I’m so excited I pick up my brand new haval jolion ultra in lime green today 😍 it’s the first car I’ve ever owned….I worked so hard to save up for it and I hope it serves for many years where I can take my mum around for road trips 💐 sending good thoughts to everyone

@@mahammadmuradov158 I’ve now had my lime green jolion for a year and I can safely say a big ‘yes’ I would definitely recommend 😍 it has been an absolute pleasure to drive whether for inner city or going on roadtrips. The car has different modes and I enjoy putting it into sport mode and zipping around. Petrol consumption has been really cost effective and omg the annual maintenance cost has been a dream (I only paid $250 here in Australia for the annual maintenance as part of their capped 5 year maintenance plan). My only small ‘critique’ is the sound system isn’t the super duper best (it’s still amazing but I’m spoiled with like top notch sound systems in my house so I can hear the difference between that and the car 😂). I got all the trimmings for mine in the ultra version so it also has an amazing sunroof and I can plug my dash cam straight into the front mirror on the windshield. I’m also a relatively new driver (I’ve only had my license for about 2 years) and it has literally been a lifesaver for me on numerous occasions, especially on the freeway, there’s been a few times where the wheel kind of “takes over” and speeds up or slows down etc etc. I have all the safety features on to the max as I feel like I need it, but if someone else finds it annoying or is a better driver than I am, you could turn them off. Also I love that the driving speed and details are also projected at eye level on the front windshield for me too as it saves me having to glance down. Sounds like a small thing but it’s really not and makes an immense difference (at least for me) ….plus it’s also cool 😂

Love Richard Berry’s reviews. They are easy to watch, practical and honest. I’m sick of some reviewers comparing vehicles across different types of vehicles. An SUV will not handle like a Porsche and a small compact will not ride like a BMW 7 series. Richard gives a practical review base on vehicle and the comparisons are to similar type vehicles.
    Plus he’s knowledgeable and funny.
    Well done mate.

We actually managed to get 7.3l/100km when we drove from Pretoria to the Riversdale, Western Cape. We have the 2021 City version, and I could really not be more pleased with the car. Really good value for money, and the driving feels smooth. Would highly recommend it!

And on top of that, we hand the back seats down and car FULLY packed. So really, long distance it’s a steal. Sure it’s a bit high for short distances, but that goes for all SUV’s.

I'm planning on buying this. How is the power on the car? I'm currently driving a 2019 Kia Rio and it's just has no power at all. 😞😞 I struggle a lot more so when the car has four passengers and luggage. I want to trade in for the premium version. I'm also in South Africa by the way.

The Jolion has a 105kw @ 210Nm turbo engine, and really feel it on the road, especially if the car is fully packed or has 4 people. I’d say go for a teat drive and feel for yourself, but personally, I love it! The value for money is next to none!

  • @MarkoMijuskovic
    @MarkoMijuskovic ปีที่แล้ว +6

I just bought the ultra and I have to say I'm impressed beyond words. Since this review the vehicle received the 5 star ANCAP safety rating and there actually is a hybrid version available. Sure there are little annoying things here and there, for example no knob to manually adjust a/c temperature/power which is annoying when yo are driving but let's face it which car gets everything right? For the money you paid you are getting much more than any other vehicle on the road. I had a WV T-Roc reserved in the basic bare bones version and it was still more expensive that the Jolion in ultra version. To get the top of the line T-Roc I would have to dish out at least 10-15K more. So really the only thing that is stopping you from buying this car is the stigma that it is a Chinese car and if you can't get over that then too bad for you.

I’m sick to death of reviewers ‘taking points’ off a vehicle because it’s not as big as the next one. If it has poor leg room in its class, fine. I swear this is the reason why the RAV4 has tripled in size since inception.
Also mentioning the lack of a hybrid was good as well. I mean how can you guys not let rip at Hyundai and Mazda at this stage in the game for having no hybrid is beyond me. Anyone would think the manufacturers are sponsoring some of you guys. Not this guy though! Great review! 😃

Bought mine 3 weeks ago and I'm loving it so much. Its really spacious and smooth to drive. Not good in fuel economy as they claim in their advertisement though. But for the price of 27k, the car like this is just great.
But few drawbacks about the cars that i noticed are:
    1. There's no Automatic AC temperature control(not in Premium model that i have). I had a car previously which was 11 years old, even it had a feature of automatic controlling the temperature. But for 2021 Jollion i would expect to have it on its basic model atleast.
    2. There's no volume up and down on screen. Its all on the steering wheel. If your passenger has to turn the volume up and down, they gotta use your steering wheel while you're driving.
    3. Temperature readings on AC goes from low to 12(12 is the heater). So you have to fiddle around the temperature that you would like but can't reslly set a specific temperature. And also you have to change the temperature on screen by bringing the notification screen down, so during the drive it could be a bit dangerous.
    4. When you put your car in reverse, it still moves forward. Also, on a hill if you are stopped and then drive then your car moves backwards so you gotta be careful.
    5. Sunglass holder doesn't fit any type of sunnies. Only aviators or same sort but not sports or any other one. Its a bit smaller.
Please let me know if someone has same issue or its just me. I would love to fix them if I could. Apart from that, Jollion is just too great

Gwm long term reliability is garbage. I have seen wingle utes on the road brand new In 2009 , now not a single one you see on the road.
And if you do manage to see one, the interior is hanging on by a thread. Ac vents broken, discolored head and tail lights, even the company that sold them stopped selling them.
Haval and jolion look nice when new , give them 3 years to mature. I see everyone fascinated by the touch screens. It's like they stuck on 2 tablets to the dashboard and everyone is impressed.
No ac controls on the dashboard, it is idiotic to put the ac control in the infotainment.
When the screen goes bad what then? A pioneer stereo wont have the ac control functions.
