GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid 2024 review: Ultra | Long-term small SUV test of Toyota Corolla Cross rival

  • The 2024 GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid is looking to make its presence felt in the Small SUV segment, which now has no shortage of hybrid models on offer - look no further than the Toyota Corolla Cross, Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro for proof of that fact. Point being, the competition is stiff.
    But does the Jolion Hybrid stand out from the crowd? Well, its styling certainly goes some way in helping it do just that. But, of course, there’s a lot more to this Haval’s story than how it looks. Under the bonnet, it has a punchy series-parallel hybrid powertrain that’s hoping to deliver performance and efficiency in equal measure.
    In this expert long-term review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Tom White lives with the Jolion Hybrid’s Ultra flagship for three months to find out just how well it deals with the trials and tribulations of everyday life. That’s right; a hybrid small SUV has to deliver more than just electric grunt and low emissions.

    GWM produced a very beautiful car here. My most favorite feature is that big screen on the dashboard. Lovely.

    Some people have gotten around 7.0L/100km on average so to get 5.0L/100km is excellent and right on the money for the segment. The Lux spec is an absolute steal at thirty six thousand dollars including on road costs with inflation driving the prices of vehicles higher after years of COVID related issues.
    Well done GWM HAVAL the Jolion Hybrid is a fantastic SUV for the money even with a few niggling issues such as not being able to turn off some safety features permanently and the gear selection dial issue. I would like to see some sort of fabric inserts in the middle of the seats but generally the interior and exterior styling are excellent without any strange styling elements unlike some of the competition a big thumbs up from me.
    A great SUV and well suited to use as the family chariot.
    I hope they do a utility vehicle or a small truck with the same drivetrain for Australia.

    I tend to rag on this car unnecessarily but I do try to keep an open mind. You can tell the Jolion is popular for good reason, and the hybrid really solves a lot of the problems of the regular ICE version too. Thank you for the review!

    the base model called "premium" is way cheaper and has everything you need. including the turbo engine, traffic sign recognition with speed alert, adaptive cruise control, and 7 speed auto. To compare it to the MG, compare the middle of the range model, the "lux" with the 2nd top MG the "excite" (which also has the turbo engine) for about 3 grand more than the lux and about 6 grand more than the premium jolion

      It’s a proximity key, leave it in your pocket. If you can’t do that, to the left of the gear selector there’s a small storage area suitable for keys etc, as per the review….

  • @wcrash9361
    @wcrash9361 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Vinylly seats ?? GWM never tried to claim they were leather but still better quality then the horrible plastic feeling Toyota vinyl seats
    The haval name in seats has now been removed in new models
    The lka is not violent at all just another reviewer exaggerating , feeling a vibration in your wheel if u get to close to the line is nothing to complain about
    The slowing down using cruise is only a few kms on bends and this is mainly because if you have lane centre if on when adaptive cruise is on it knows u should skis down in a bend to stay centred
    I use cruise everyday and no problems at all
    Have had zero issues with this car. Quiet smooth responsive zippy with great fuel economy
    The rotary shifter fuse lock into d n and r and it does not free spin
    Also swiping right on screen to adjust seat heating volume etc fir passenger is very simple and driver has volume control on wheel anyway so not worth worrying about

    Seeing this review again I realised how much of a whinger this guy is . Sounds like he read a few people whinge about lka and acc and just repeated them . I’ve had this car over a year and never had and slowing down using acc and have spoke to many other owners and they agreed that they have not had issue either .
    Regarding the lka I’ve never found any need to switch it off as it works just as it does in other cars I’ve driven

    The Jolion is still very average overall. Not what I'd call inspiring . My previous 2022 Diesel VW Tiguan did about 1300 km to a tank , 400km further than the Jolion give or take . My current Touareg does close to that but admittedly has a 90 litre tank .

    • @wcrash9361
      @wcrash9361 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No comparison, the Tiguan is riddled with issues . A Touareg is no comparison because u solid for fuel for those extra kms in the hybrid u don’t and your getting 3-400 kms extra in top of the standard jolion

      You have zero idea obviously , there are bad car makers everywhere. You can lump all 113 car manufacturers in the same pile just because they have their business in China. Many major reliable car brands build their cars in China. Mercedes , Volvo, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover and now Kia are making their new ev5 in China .

    • @samuelcraig

      I had the 2023 version of this car - not EV. Honestly I was hesitant at first too but it drives great and never had any problem. Also, servicing was really good. Of course this depends on the service centre but you're treated like a premium customer. You also feel safe driving it due to the size. The only bug bear I had was the cruise control. It slows down whenever it detects a hazard (even when there isn't an actual hazard, like a bend in the road).
