  • The new Haval Jolion Hybrid costs $7000 more than the equivalent petrol version. So, what's the distance you'd have to drive the hybrid to break even? Is it 3000km? Or 100,000km? 500,000km?
CarsGuide senior journalist Richard Berry answers that question in this video along with all the other important things you need to know such as what the Haval Jolion Hybrid is like to drive, how practical it is, what safety tech it has and what it costs to own.
He also fills you in on what its competitors are - and they're not just Toyota hybrid models - and gives you an idea of how the safety equipment operates, and has a deep dive on the design changes between the petrol Jolion and the new 2023 GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid Ultra model.
There's a lot to cover, and you're going to want to see the verdict...

Jolion owner here, as far as the safety features go... whatever you turn on or off, it STAYS that way next time you turn the vehicle on. I have the DMS turned off the first time I drove it and it hasn't bothered me since. No going through the menus every time

Yes but Hybrid petrol saving is not the only saving, Hybrids don't consume brakes and discs as much and will last the lifetime of the vehicle (250k km plus) due to regen braking. Then with the Hybrid, the engine doesn't need to be run all the time so oil filters, fuel filters, air filters last longer. You can be absent minded and skip service intervals 2 - 3 times with Hybrids and it won't kill the car. The 12V battery lasts 8-10 years and doesn't need replacement every 2-4 years as the big Hybrid battery does most of the heavy lifting. So you can see petrol is just 1 equation in dollars saved. So if you are planning to keep the car for 10 years, these savings can be monumental.

36k for this beautiful large car with a premium interior is not overpriced. Fuel consumption is better than most of the hybrid cars in the market. Toyota rav4 hybrid xse fwd 53k gets you fake leather seats and outdated infotainment system.

The Haval Jolion Hybrid in Lux spec is excellent value for money at thirty six thousand on road with slightly better fuel economy and performance than the top spec version with no moonroof present on the Lux spec model. An absolute bargain for this type of vehicle with it only getting better in succeeding models I would imagine.
Obviously it's not without it's faults such as the intrusive safety features and the gear selector dial. But overall it ticks all the boxes with great performance and economy and enough points to get it over the line for an easy win at the price point.
If I was looking for a new vehicle to purchase it would be at the top of the list.
    😎👍

We got a top spec of the petrol version a few months ago as a 2nd car and it is a great daily driver with all the tech and safety kit you could want.
My biggest complaints are it is a little jerky at low-speed driving like around a carpark (I put it down to the duel clutch) and the boot is vary small (compared to our RAV4) so once we put the pram in, there is basically no room for anything else.
There are also a few little nitpick issues I have like how fiddly it is to adjust things in the touchscreen like the climate control functions ect... but overall I would absolutely recommend it.

    • @ryant2568
      @ryant2568 ปีที่แล้ว

@@wcrash9361 I am just giving my personal opinion after a few months of ownership.
Our other car is a RAV4 (they are roughly the same length overall) but it has a MUCH bigger boot. That being said I can see where the space went as the rear seats have tons more room. This honestly is probably great if you have teenagers or adults that need to use those seats but personally, we have a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old so I would prefer more boot space.
As for climate control etc... yes I know that you can swipe or click in the top left etc... but to do that you have to take your eyes off the road and it is just never going to be as easy as an old-school knob. In the RAV4 I can turn on the AC, set the temp and fan speed etc... without ever taking my eyes off the road, you just can't do that when everything is integrated into a touchscreen.
It's a minor gripe though since the car is almost half the price.

I had one as a loan car while my car was getting a tow bar fitted, better than the last Haval loan car I had 2 years ago.
I drove about 50 kilometres country driving so always with the petrol engine running ( even on start up)
It was Ok but not as good as the 3 year old RAV4(non hybrid) I drive for work.
I was appreciative to have a loan car but happy to return it.

The car is nice. Great design. But the price is a bit high. Its almost same as base model of Toyota RAV 4 Hybrid. I think there are unnecessary features like sun roof that push the price up. Also the first thing I noticed when I set in this car is that the start button was not easy to see which was hiding behind the steering wheel. Inside the car looks nice and comfortable.

His opinion on the steeering wheel is ridiculous , have never heard anyone complain , yes it could be a thicker section where your hands go but it’s pretty standard there are no hard edges and if he has long arms he shouldn’t need to bring the wheel closer. What’s strange is he reviewed the petrol jolion which he loved it and his opinion was totally different which seems disingenuous
Have heard reviews from many owners of this vehicle and most are getting 5.5L/100kms
