  • Late December 2021.
    Irish Bayou (caught 8 total redfish and was given 2 trout by a couple of nice boat fishermen - “Thanks!!”),
    Chalmette (couldn’t find the bass or reds, so went all the way out to the Chalmette wall and caught some nice, big trout),
    and Chef Menteur Pass (found a few reds and bass in some small marsh canals).
    Thanks for watching!
    Hope you enjoy the video.

    Noticed no pfd while crossing locks, please wear one at that point at least, you never know and current is super strong.
    Also, prior to crossing locks between the wooden guides and rocks can be a great place for some bass, reds and flounder. I’ve caught some really nice flounder in there and when they’re there, they are stacked, the roc’s are great place for the trout as you’ve seen, you really covered some water. Just came across your channel, good stuff.

      You’re very correct… I need to put that PFD on in those situations - and more often in general.
      Thanks for the comment and info.
      Hoping to get back out to that area at some point ahead.
      Hopefully more videos soon as well. Trout bite closer to home should be picking up in next few weeks.

    Hey Mark, I've been watching some of your older videos. I like this one as it highlights areas somewhat closer to Baton Rouge which is where im at. Thks for including the launch names and map pics!

      Ha! I gotta be honest, that last one got a LOT bigger as I inched closer. I snuck by them pretty quickly after that!! Luckily they were enjoying the sunshine too much to bother.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment.
      Cheers!

    What kayak are you using?

    • @ThePentUpAngler
      @ThePentUpAngler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old Town Topwater Kayak PDL 10’6”.
      Here’s a link to a video and full review.
      I highly recommend.
      New name - Sportsman PDL 10’6” and 12’.
      I also recommend the Old Town Salty - new 12’ and light and fast, still with good stability.
      The instant reverse is a game-changer in these Old Town kayaks.
      And 1/2 price of Hobies.

      @@ThePentUpAngler I ended up picking up a nucanoe pursuit for $225 off Facebook from a guy down in Des Allemands. I'll have it done and ready for this upcoming weekend. Can't wait to get out on the water, my 6 year old son is pumped too.

      I would love to see that. Hope it treats you and your son well. Glad to hear some updates once you’re out there … and maybe run into you on the water. Good luck!!

    What was your bait/rig setup for fishing near the wall?

    • @ThePentUpAngler
      @ThePentUpAngler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I was trolling a good bit, I went with a slightly heavier jig head - 1/4 oz. instead of the usual 1/8 oz. The jigs were mostly DownSouth jigs - dark body with chartreuse tail.
      Just trolling slowly - about 2mph and dragging it along in about 4 to 7’ of water. 20lb braid with a 12lb fluorocarbon leader.
      Much prefer casting, but the trolling helped me cover more water and find them, then could cast an area after finding them. Great area there along those rocks!
      Thanks for watching! Good luck.

      Love the place but indeed it has taken a beating. Need a break from all of the storms. And the pandemic. Hope 2022 cooperates!
