    See how I catch a lot of speckled trout in this fishing trip to the Trestles in Lake Pontchartrain.
    In this video you'll learn what makes the Trestles such a great fishing spot, from its inception in the late 1800s to its present configuration.
    You will also learn my preferred method and fishing tackle to catch speckled trout there, as well as redfish, flounder and more.

    Another great video! I was out there Sunday, with the rest of SE Louisiana. It took me a few minutes casting around the boat, up on the pilings, under the bridge, and away from the bridge before I found the bite! Once the bite was on, I put 5 nice trout in the boat, 2 big freshwater cats, lost a few more nice ones at the boat with 3 throwbacks in the mix. Then, the thunder and lightning I had been hearing from the west hit with the monsoon. Tried hiding under the Hwy 11 bridge and let it blow over, but the wind got so strong it pulled my anchor loose. I headed for the house with a VERY wet ass. Thankfully, it's only about a mile to my dock!
    I can't post a report to the groups b/c I'm in Fb jail until May 26th. LOL.

    Went to Delacroix Saturday, the wind was blowing and the water was dirty in most places.
    We did poorly but like I told you before we do the same spots every time. At the dock everyone was complaining about the fresh water messing things up. They had a bass tournament which says a lot about the water down there. My brother in law finally said after all these years, we got to do things different. I tell him to watch you all the time but he is to smart for that. Please post videos so I can have some hope.

      Hey Bart, thanks for commenting.
      Delacroix has had a freshwater influence since the 90s, when they built the diversion at Caernarvon at the request of the oyster industry.
      The fishing is good, but it has definitely changed.
      I have not been making as many TH-cam videos as before because I am working on overhauling Inshore Fishing 101, my flagship course.
      It sounds like your brother in law could learn a thing or two in it, but if his mind is closed then he'll never learn anything useful anyway.
      I thank you for your viewership and am happy to tell you that I recorded a new video yesterday and will get to processing the raw video today.

    Man, man,man ……. Love these videos!!! You’ve got the most informative videos with the best cinematography by far. I like how many of your videos make it feel like , the viewer, is also a part of the fishing trip. Like getting gear ready and discussing tomorrow’s trip, then beginning the video at dawn with the first cast, then the thought process behind each move, showing the catches and the misses, talking fishing to the camera during the trip as if it were a buddy, then the conclusion with final thoughts. It’s a winning format. One question: why are the trestles such a draw as opposed to the other bridges? Maybe that’s not even the case but it seems as though everyone I talk to that fishes Lake Ponchartrain rarely mentions other bridges. Thanks

    I caught a limit today in big lake ,west side of LA. Using info from your videos and I’m using all daiwa reels. I’ve never fished the east side of the state but from the looks of it, it seems to be a better fishery there. Our limit is 15 trout here and we don’t have nearly the marsh. A lot of open water type fishing. That being said I can still take away info from your vids and apply it to my area. And I’m just a fan boy! Keep up the good work.

    Also I fish the Ms Gulfcoast and there is a trestle I fish a good bit. It connects from Bay St.Loius to Pass Christian. Anyways I've just started fishing it here lately using only artificial. Mostly matrix shad. I'm catching trout here and there, but my question is, how deep should I be fishing. Is there a certain depth they prefer during the summer? Since this trestle runs for several miles, I'm having a hard time figuring where to set up 😐

    Hi Devin. Your editing is really professional. Unless you have done editing you can't appreciate the work that goes into your vedios. The water at the trestles was great Friday. Fishing was OK but not super until I fished rock points
    Makes me wonder if the big trout have not arrived yet. Your thoughts.

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am of the opinion that they Trestles action is largely over and, any trout action that does heat up will be quickly pressured.
      The key to getting the Trestles when it's good is fishing it before people are talking about it.
      That's why I HATE when people ask on Facebook if "they should fish spot x" because they were "just wondering".
      It's a good way to miss a lot of good fishing. My advice: just go, keep reports, learn from them, adjust for the next fishing trip.
      I'm sure there are still some fish to be caught on the tracks, but if I were you, I'd be looking for where they're moving next.
      I've already done that, limited out yesterday and today on speckled trout, and nowhere near the Trestles (but fishing the same area).
      Check LAFB Inshore for the full report.

    Recently went in a charter and used a drop shot which worked very well. I love my baitcaster tho and I noticed it seems you pull out more line to get to the bottom than other times. Would it be safe bet to pull out a decent amount each time to ensure getting to the bottom? I’m a newbie with the trestle

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, indeed. You'll know the jig hits the bottom when you see the slack give out. This guide explains in detail: www.lafishblog.com/lake-pontchartrain-bridges/

    Tell me what tide ur looking for and how many hours before the peak tide do u start? Lastly what is cut off of wind mph that u are willing to fish the lake?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I covered this in the video. You are stuck fishing what tide you get. What's key is fishing what you're given. Where was I during an incoming tide? A falling tide?
      As for wind speed, it depends on the wind direction. If it's blowing 20mph from the north then guess which side of the lake won't be rough?

    Hey man, just curious as to why your are flipping fish into your boat and letting them flop everywhere if you're going to release them. They aren't big and that definitely hurts them right?
    I keep most of what I catch, but when I have to release something I try to treat it as gently as I can.

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you just making stuff up based upon how you feel or do you have some kind of hard science you can link up?
      I get comments like yours every once in awhile and all I can say is that if you're that concerned about the fish, and really feel that releasing back into the water is somehow on par or worse than into the cooler, then my suggestion is that you just avoid fishing altogether.
      Or, you can learn the real science behind catch and release. Yes, jacking them in the face with a sharp steel hook and having them out of the water isn't exactly conducive to their health, but these fish are much hardier than you realize.
      If you haven't listened to Chris Bush's (Speckled Truth) podcast with Dr. Greg Stunz then you need to. Otherwise there's just no point to having a conversation here. Find it on Spotify.
      Let me be clear: I am not releasing fish to virtue signal my righteousness, I am releasing fish because this is something I do for a living and I firmly believe catch and release will make a better fishery here in Louisiana.
      There is always (and always will be) the "next step" in conservation, and what I mean by this is that there is always some detail you can add to make the catching process that much easier to the fish.
      Instead of boat flipping them you can gingerly pick them up. Then you can wear gloves. Then you can wear a face mask to avoid breathing on the damn thing. Then you can handle it in the shade so the sun doesn't get on it. Then you can give it tickets to a Dave Chappelle show before sending it off on its way after having harassed it with a fake meal.
      Actually, why not don scuba gear and jump in the water with the fish so it never has to leave the water in the first place?!
      Or, better yet, I will put out flyers underwater asking fish to volunteer for my next TH-cam video, so that way no fish are being hooked against their will.
      I think you get it.
      So where do you plan on drawing the line?
      This brings me back to my first sentence "then my suggestion is that you just avoid fishing altogether".
      My brand name is very clearly "Louisiana Fishing Blog". Not Texas Fishing Blog. Not "wherever the hell you're from fishing blog".
      And here in Louisiana the very first step in conservation is getting people to stop eating everything that swims.
      Geez, people here will kill a fish just because.
      Just getting these fish back in the water in the first place is a HUGE WIN.
      Hopefully you understand that.
      Thanks.

    Great video. If you are going to release the fish you catch you should do everything you can not to damage the slime on their skin which can lead to sick fish. Boat carpet, gloved hands, towels all remove the slime. Don’t take them out of the water. Unhook them in the water with a de-hooker. It’s not that hard to do that. And if they get off so what. You are releasing them anyway.
