I'm really happy with this game. I don't usually go for turn based games but it feels like a great Gears experience. My PC is running it fine. Ryzen 2700x, Rtx 2070, 16 gigs of Ram. I purchased through Steam.
I really miss the old war gear day's. I don't really like a swarm all that much. I always liked the locusts way better it was my favorite to play as them in multiplayer when i was a kid.
Yeah it seems weird but really I was into the lore of the locus but It would be cool if there was a hidden locus settlement and the locus are also being kidnapped and converted so the cog and locus would maybe make an alliance or something
I don’t know how much you are actually following the game lore, but Swarm in essence are locust. Plus the Scions are the locust. They are still here. What you truly miss is the banter in the game. The banter has definitely gone down over the years. Especially with the old cast leaving, the current cast is boring. The banter is PVP is bland too. I remember squeaking “Shit yeah” as a 13 year old kid all the time when playing Carmine. I remember learning to wall bounce, glitch out the map and etc. This side of Gears has been lost and now I never truly play multiplayer.
@@shira2151 The Swarm are the "Next evolution" for the locust but it doesn't really mean much when the Swarm honestly seem dumber then the Locust not really doing anything to stand out, the drones and soldiers at least, most of the Swarm creatures, other then juvies and snatchers, seems kinda cool except they don't really show or really even prove to be an evolution they could've just been thrown in with the Locust

Looking forward to a hopefully close translation to the X. I hope this does really well - I honestly believe that you can take several franchise universes and succeed in making a Tactics game from them, shame we don't see more of these.

Clearly we're on the same page with this, to the point where it's sort of a head-scratcher as to why more studios don't take a chance on the format - I'm guessing it's a gamble and all, but look at the new Xcom pulling in all sorts of players who'd never tried a turn based tactics style game ! I’m in the middle of the third act and so far love it. Been playing Gears since the first one and this game’s cutscenes capture the older tone of Gears so well. I like that there’s no base building but it could use an extra something.

This isn't just Gears the smoosh thing has happened to, but pretty much all the violent games coming out for the past few years. It wouldn't surprise me if game publishers are now required by law to tone down or not to feature too much realism if there's violence involved. Graphics are so good in games now that there is a whole newer level of potential to motivate sick individuals into doing fucked up shit, especially with VR now being a thing.
I think alot of people missed that, including myself until playing the second game... I remember going "ohhhhh wow... How did I not catch that earlier" lol
Chimera seems kinda like the developers testing out different things they might wanna add to XCOM 3. Isnt it only like 20 bucks? I'm gonna pick this up over it, but that is a hard to say no to price
For anyone into Warhammer 40k I’d absolutely love to see them make a multiplayer mode for this game that’s heavily inspired by Kill Team, only have a select amount of turns for each character on smaller maps with key objectives
Pretty cool to see a Mexican/Hispanic representation without it feeling forced like Kait does for 5 and what’s funny is Gabe’s her dad. Sad I have to see an ip that’s from Xbox come out on pc first(I know it’s Microsoft but still). Also the reviews on steam are just bad because it’s being review bombed by Chinese who can’t log in to Xbox live and idiots who didn’t see it’s a windows 10 game.
@@dushikorsou1 it came for Xbox 360 first then a few months later (or was it a year?) They launched the PC port with new exclusive chapters with a Brumak. Which of course would later be included in Gears Ultimate Edition
I can't wait for this to come to Xbox, I have been replaying all of these with my nephew so we can play gears 5 together and it has made me want this more than anything.
@@S2GamesBench why would they? xcom 2 sells more on pc than xbox during the first week of release for each platform, it makes sense to focus their game on pc first console later. Not to mention there is at least one graphic options that console just couldnt handle at solid 60 fps like planar reflection.
As a long time Gearhead, I find the narrative of this game to be really important and necessary, for the sole reason of knowing more about Kait's parents and the backstory of The Diaz family. Since she virtually became the main character of the story, due to being able to choose between killing J.D. or Del in Gears 5.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache, As most, I would've preferred another third-person shooter Gears’ game to express these narratives. However, it's a great game so I won't knock it.
This game is legitimately so much fun. I have been playing it the last few days and I really like a lot of its core mechanics more than XCOM. Very different feel to each game and both are fun, but this feels so polished. Some people say it's a little samey and I get that, but I have certainly enjoyed the dozens of hours I've put into it so far.
I found out about this game about two weeks ago. I was really excited about it coming to Xbox, but then I heard that I wasn't coming to it on the release date. I was a little sad because I've been there since the beginning days when I first saw a berserker and was scared beyond belief as a kid. I haven't really liked the newer games because I miss gears 2 and 3. However, this seemed like it would reboot my love for the franchise, yet now I have to wait longer. The wait is fine, I'm just lost as why they decided to not try and push it to console where the fans were first at.
I bought an Xbox for Gears of War. It has always been my favorite franchise for Xbox, reviews for this title have been pretty good I hope we get to see it soon on the Xbox as I don't have a decent rig.

Its really good, certainly very impressive early on and when you get new mission types they are fun, as it goes on it gets a little repetitious and the impact wear off but it's a great start to hopefully a new series
Customization is nice, but they should have included some form of base management. When I get a class unit, I never really need another and if you could send some out on missions that would help. It just felt pointless to have more when I can only send 4 out. The game as it is is worth more like $40-$50.
i think its important to understand this is the 1st entry of this type for gears. if this goes well, they can expand on it in a sequal. people need to appreciate a game for what it is instead of expecting things before hand.

Great game if you’re a fan of turn based tactics!!! It’s on the gamepass ultimate for the PC. Amazing story, I deff recommend if you enjoyed Xcomm, mutatant year zero, Narcos, etc
I'm glad to see Gears Tactics is such an off genre and quality hit. Really shows the potential of game pass really letting microsoft get more out there with their IP's and making cool stuff.
Was first hesitant to get it but it’s really a great type of game that takes so much stress off of players having to masters different little tricks to pop shot gnashers or cancel cover slides to pop shots, it appeals to the hardcore players and the casual players since a game of this type is more based on mental thinking and planning then actual gunskill so I feel more people will have fun playin it
It sucks that it doesn't have co-op. A few side missions, either statically made or procedural generated, that you can do with a friend and get some side gear off of would make for a really fun re-playable experience. But overall I would agree with your review: it's pretty enjoyable but could be so much more. Oh and stat wise: 3900x, and 2080 Ti both OC'd, I hang near 100FPS at max settings 1440p. It's definitely GPU bound more than CPU but it seems to not be fully optimized in my opinion. With a top-down view and less NPC units - there's not a lot that needs to be rendered. Compared to gears 5 which I get 144+FPS on.
I wouldn't be surprised if DLC comes out with exactly what you said in a couple months. The first Xcom didn't have multiplayer until the expansion came out
Like it so far. Someone on twitter said a Horde mode would be perfect for this style(which I hadn't even thought of yet), and I really like where this game could go. I really like the customization and lite RPG elements with the class skills. Really hope future Gears games add that.
Never understood the hype of strategy games. I'd rather control the character myself to shoot other characters instead of watching them shoot eachother, to each their own though.
@@notname4414 I gave Gears Tactics a try last night for a bit and just couldn't get into it. If the gameplay picks up alot more than basically what goes on after like the first few missions then I'll be happy to continue. But I'd rather be told whether or not it eventually picks up instead of finding out for myself.

Just picked it up again... needing a break from gears 5 multiplayer but still want to play around in the gears universe. I was gonna start a campaign over again but then I saw this gem on gamepass and remember really enjoying my first playthrough. Now going back through a 2nd time and enjoying it just as much as the first. If you have gamepass, it comes with it! No brainer
Hardcore Gears fan, Seriously 2.0/3.0, hate 4&5 so you know I'm legit haha I absolutely adore this game, its simple and fun, it's Gears to the bone and has really good gameplay. Idk if it is worth the 70 bucks but no game should be that at launch for the normal edition! Playing on an I5 + 2080ti watercooled. I couldn't get the game to load longer then five seconds before it would crash! Turns out it was my frame limiter, RiviaTuner was seen as a hack/cheat and so the game wouldn't load. Turned that off and I'm good to go, 4k@100fps all day no problems! Great game if you have the game pass, if you pay 70 then you better already love gears but this game is amazing fun and chill while keeping gears at it's core.
This game made me really miss the Locust even more. I just don’t like the Swarm, they don’t feel the same. Seeing Drones and Brumaks and Corpsers really took me back. That being said, as someone that tortures himself on XCOM daily, this game can be fucking balls hard, and there’s no save scumming here. Took me 10 tries to beat the fourth fucking level because Grenadiers are bullshit. But man, the mechanics are great, the game runs FANTASTICALLY, and it’s just a blast to play.
Gears of War was my first game on Xbox and hell I still play it to this day, ( on PC now but still) I got the game waiting watched this before playing and truly hope some good dlc or even some good updates come Edit: and yes I am a gears if war fan boy when I was like 15 I wanted the red cog as my first tattoo even THANK GOD that didn't come to happen. I'm digging it. The old days of gears is the best vibe. Gears 4 was ok but tbh we need more prequels because 1 what happens at ashpho fields? If you all read the book you know it's good. 2 lets get more Info on the other characters we lost like see more of Tai, and Kim and the relationship that Dom and Marcus went through. The sequel 4 and 5 ehhhh I think the game was better off ending on 3. I dont hate the 4 and 5 I just think it's kinda think it was a lousy attempt to make some BS that a human was a locust queen or something. Just leave it at that. It doesnt make sense that a super sonic beam shot around the word killing everything only to say "the locust been sleeping" seriously? Were supposed to believe every locust knew to go to sleep?

Sounds like a thinner version of XCom. Meh - Id say id give it a try for the story, BUT-- I cant-- they couldnt get the console version ready in time......thats a mistake. What is going on a XBox? Its not like they have many exclusive games to worry about, then one finally comes along and it launches, but not on console? Sometimes i think Microsoft is run by the team that created Windows Me.

The game looks cool. I have never played any gears of war game before and dont care much too learn about the story but I have played a lot of Xcom and that's what got me hooked on this game, however, This game is not worth 70 bucks. I mean not a single other pc game is that expensive unless you got some special edition. I'd say it's worth about 40 bucks, 50 bucks at most.
Anyone else want a tactical modern warfare (I'm only using cod as an example) type Isometric game. Hear me out, how awesome to play as diffrent factions that have characters such as spec ops, grunt, sniper, medic, and generals that can use baldurs gate type rpg elements and dialogue. I mean how awesome to either side with a rebellion and create a new country or, crush the opposition and unlock new areas and unlock updated technology for a price. I mean no one has even tried s ol nothing like that. The possibility is endless (copyright by me lol developers lol).
I was recently presented with a choice. Buy Gears Tactics for $59.99 or buy Gears Tactics AND Gears 5 for $49.99. I thought. Now is my chance to try out Gears 5.
Well, I'm not a hardcore fan, I have not played the original trilogy. I watched the story on YT, cause I couldn't afford a console back in the days. But somehow I think that the lore would benefit if there were games set in the Pendulum Wars. Games are like Locust only and that seems very repetetive.
Got it for 1 dollar on Xbox game pass for 1 month! Im normaly a PS4 gamer but wanted to try Gears tactics. First hours have been great. Easy learning and smooth game play. Let´s see if i still play it after my trial month on game pass is over or if im skiping renrew it.
Game looks cool, and the Gear of War franchise is a natural fit for this type of gameplay. And kudos to the Developer for NOT forcing the player to a grid-like movement (movement by squares). It looks much more natural the way they did it. My PC will never run this, so I will have to wait for an XB1 release.
I bought it on steam. It gave me a warning that my card was bad which is a 1060 but I had no issues. Game is fun I enjoy it more than xcom 2. Worth the 64 bucks to me. I'm hoping for dlc the game could use more hero characters and modes.
I still believe that this should have been a regular gears game. This felt just like Judgement so having it not playable in classic gears fashion is a HUGE missed opportunity

What I got out of this is that the Xcom series has more depth and currently more value since it's cheap. If you're bored of Xcom, you buy this while waiting for Xcom 3.
I think they made too many gears of war games. I'm not too excited about the 5th game but I'm sure I'll play it. However this one does look really pleasing. I can't wait for it to come to the Xbox.
How about like a how about a multiplayer game of it where you vs. Your buddy will using your own special characters and so forth going in a one-v-one sort of fashion but with your squad of special units

my gpu is incompatible or something and I cant get above 60 fps on the lowest graphic settings. rip

@@bolt8056 you really don't need 60 fps and max settings to play. 30 w/low settings is decent unless your one of "THOSE" PC players.

Yeah the gore has been severely downgraded since then, the original trilogy had better gore and Gears 2 (imo) had the best gore

My gripe with the customization is that headwear can't change colour and that the undersuit for the legs is the same as the armour colour.

I bought an Xbox for Gears of War. It has always been my favorite franchise for Xbox, reviews for this title have been pretty good I hope we get to see it soon on the Xbox as I don't have a decent rig.

Its really good, certainly very impressive early on and when you get new mission types they are fun, as it goes on it gets a little repetitious and the impact wear off but it's a great start to hopefully a new series
seeing stuff like this makes me wish for a true to form Warhammer 40k game, where you can play as all the different factions.

Customization is nice, but they should have included some form of base management. When I get a class unit, I never really need another and if you could send some out on missions that would help. It just felt pointless to have more when I can only send 4 out. The game as it is is worth more like $40-$50.

i think its important to understand this is the 1st entry of this type for gears. if this goes well, they can expand on it in a sequal. people need to appreciate a game for what it is instead of expecting things before hand.

Great game if you’re a fan of turn based tactics!!! It’s on the gamepass ultimate for the PC. Amazing story, I deff recommend if you enjoyed Xcomm, mutatant year zero, Narcos, etc
If you like Xcom or Gears Tactics, check out Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. That game is seriously underrated.
Yeah fantastic game! I loved being able to be able to meticulously plan my attacks and upgrades. Literally every point of damage mattered in the game!

try using a trainer on it for fun, did it on my second playthrough, and you'll get a nice surprise

I'm glad to see Gears Tactics is such an off genre and quality hit. Really shows the potential of game pass really letting microsoft get more out there with their IP's and making cool stuff.
BUT does it have the infamous Xcom "aiming"?
Was first hesitant to get it but it’s really a great type of game that takes so much stress off of players having to masters different little tricks to pop shot gnashers or cancel cover slides to pop shots, it appeals to the hardcore players and the casual players since a game of this type is more based on mental thinking and planning then actual gunskill so I feel more people will have fun playin it
It sucks that it doesn't have co-op. A few side missions, either statically made or procedural generated, that you can do with a friend and get some side gear off of would make for a really fun re-playable experience. But overall I would agree with your review: it's pretty enjoyable but could be so much more.
Oh and stat wise:
3900x, and 2080 Ti both OC'd, I hang near 100FPS at max settings 1440p. It's definitely GPU bound more than CPU but it seems to not be fully optimized in my opinion. With a top-down view and less NPC units - there's not a lot that needs to be rendered. Compared to gears 5 which I get 144+FPS on.
I wouldn't be surprised if DLC comes out with exactly what you said in a couple months. The first Xcom didn't have multiplayer until the expansion came out

Hopefully this game will be easy to mod. Xcom 2 has SO MANY awesome mods that makes the game so much better
Like it so far. Someone on twitter said a Horde mode would be perfect for this style(which I hadn't even thought of yet), and I really like where this game could go. I really like the customization and lite RPG elements with the class skills. Really hope future Gears games add that.
My potato can't play it... Not even at the lowest settings... Guess I have to wait for the Xbox release...

Never understood the hype of strategy games. I'd rather control the character myself to shoot other characters instead of watching them shoot eachother, to each their own though.
Give a try, i have a brother who thinks just like u about strategy games. And he end up playing 5 hours straight last night. You might as well like it
@@notname4414 I gave Gears Tactics a try last night for a bit and just couldn't get into it. If the gameplay picks up alot more than basically what goes on after like the first few missions then I'll be happy to continue. But I'd rather be told whether or not it eventually picks up instead of finding out for myself.
@@notname4414 Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna be that asshole that trashes these types of games, I honestly just think the pace of the game is what makes it not my preference, I'm into fast paced games.

Just picked it up again... needing a break from gears 5 multiplayer but still want to play around in the gears universe. I was gonna start a campaign over again but then I saw this gem on gamepass and remember really enjoying my first playthrough. Now going back through a 2nd time and enjoying it just as much as the first. If you have gamepass, it comes with it! No brainer
Hardcore Gears fan, Seriously 2.0/3.0, hate 4&5 so you know I'm legit haha I absolutely adore this game, its simple and fun, it's Gears to the bone and has really good gameplay. Idk if it is worth the 70 bucks but no game should be that at launch for the normal edition! Playing on an I5 + 2080ti watercooled. I couldn't get the game to load longer then five seconds before it would crash! Turns out it was my frame limiter, RiviaTuner was seen as a hack/cheat and so the game wouldn't load. Turned that off and I'm good to go, 4k@100fps all day no problems! Great game if you have the game pass, if you pay 70 then you better already love gears but this game is amazing fun and chill while keeping gears at it's core.

This game made me really miss the Locust even more. I just don’t like the Swarm, they don’t feel the same. Seeing Drones and Brumaks and Corpsers really took me back. That being said, as someone that tortures himself on XCOM daily, this game can be fucking balls hard, and there’s no save scumming here. Took me 10 tries to beat the fourth fucking level because Grenadiers are bullshit. But man, the mechanics are great, the game runs FANTASTICALLY, and it’s just a blast to play.
Gears of War was my first game on Xbox and hell I still play it to this day, ( on PC now but still) I got the game waiting watched this before playing and truly hope some good dlc or even some good updates come
Edit: and yes I am a gears if war fan boy when I was like 15 I wanted the red cog as my first tattoo even THANK GOD that didn't come to happen. I'm digging it. The old days of gears is the best vibe. Gears 4 was ok but tbh we need more prequels because 1 what happens at ashpho fields? If you all read the book you know it's good. 2 lets get more Info on the other characters we lost like see more of Tai, and Kim and the relationship that Dom and Marcus went through. The sequel 4 and 5 ehhhh I think the game was better off ending on 3. I dont hate the 4 and 5 I just think it's kinda think it was a lousy attempt to make some BS that a human was a locust queen or something. Just leave it at that. It doesnt make sense that a super sonic beam shot around the word killing everything only to say "the locust been sleeping" seriously? Were supposed to believe every locust knew to go to sleep?
They should make this into a series, few franchises get a chance at a second life like this.

Sounds like a thinner version of XCom. Meh - Id say id give it a try for the story, BUT-- I cant-- they couldnt get the console version ready in time......thats a mistake. What is going on a XBox? Its not like they have many exclusive games to worry about, then one finally comes along and it launches, but not on console?

The game looks cool. I have never played any gears of war game before and dont care much too learn about the story but I have played a lot of Xcom and that's what got me hooked on this game, however, This game is not worth 70 bucks. I mean not a single other pc game is that expensive unless you got some special edition. I'd say it's worth about 40 bucks, 50 bucks at most.
Anyone else want a tactical modern warfare (I'm only using cod as an example) type Isometric game. Hear me out, how awesome to play as diffrent factions that have characters such as spec ops, grunt, sniper, medic, and generals that can use baldurs gate type rpg elements and dialogue. I mean how awesome to either side with a rebellion and create a new country or, crush the opposition and unlock new areas and unlock updated technology for a price. I mean no one has even tried s ol nothing like that. The possibility is endless (copyright by me lol developers lol).
I was recently presented with a choice. Buy Gears Tactics for $59.99 or buy Gears Tactics AND Gears 5 for $49.99. I thought. Now is my chance to try out Gears 5.
Well, I'm not a hardcore fan, I have not played the original trilogy. I watched the story on YT, cause I couldn't afford a console back in the days. But somehow I think that the lore would benefit if there were games set in the Pendulum Wars. Games are like Locust only and that seems very repetetive.

Got it for 1 dollar on Xbox game pass for 1 month! Im normaly a PS4 gamer but wanted to try Gears tactics. First hours have been great. Easy learning and smooth game play. Let´s see if i still play it after my trial month on game pass is over or if im skiping renrew it.
Game looks cool, and the Gear of War franchise is a natural fit for this type of gameplay. And kudos to the Developer for NOT forcing the player to a grid-like movement (movement by squares). It looks much more natural the way they did it.
My PC will never run this, so I will have to wait for an XB1 release.
I bought it on steam. It gave me a warning that my card was bad which is a 1060 but I had no issues. Game is fun I enjoy it more than xcom 2. Worth the 64 bucks to me. I'm hoping for dlc the game could use more hero characters and modes.
I still believe that this should have been a regular gears game. This felt just like Judgement so having it not playable in classic gears fashion is a HUGE missed opportunity

Under experienced difficulty: very good game. Anything higher: pure bs! Missing shots with the enemy kissing your face bs.
What I got out of this is that the Xcom series has more depth and currently more value since it's cheap. If you're bored of Xcom, you buy this while waiting for Xcom 3.
I think they made too many gears of war games. I'm not too excited about the 5th game but I'm sure I'll play it. However this one does look really pleasing. I can't wait for it to come to the Xbox.
How about like a how about a multiplayer game of it where you vs. Your buddy will using your own special characters and so forth going in a one-v-one sort of fashion but with your squad of special units

This just too big of jump of spec for my PC, game is good but my Nvidia seems incompatible it crashes a lot, I uses latest driver and everything.
