@@polyfission2776 Yes, I know but in this case I've got the vibe that they didn't even try to look or feel a bit different. Like "lets swap some textures and go on" type of release.
It's funny how much the pc characters stand out and have been patched in with the sole intent of keeping the blood thirsty gaming media from writing their usual smear pieces. It's too bad because these characters have the potential to be interesting and go through the hero's journey but the laws of pc culture will not allow such characters to have any flaws, to make mistakes, to fail, to learn from their failures and flaws and become heroic. They must be the best, they must be leaders whether they've earned it or not and that is not immersive and worst of all is predictable. A carbon copy of the many other forgettable characters that we usually see in AAA games of today. Other than that the game is great and it runs beautifully in a Ryzen 5 2600 4.1ghz, 16 gb ram and a 5700XT. 120 fps @ 1080p maxed settings. Vram use is also below 4Gb so those of you with 4GB GPU's should be ok. Enjoy!
Nice PC specs, I have the exact same specs as you!

It would be good to talk briefly about the quality difference between Ultra and the lower settings for those folks with lower spec. Does it still look good? Are you losing quality in a major way. Sometimes, there's not much difference. Cheers Mac.
Finally played this game today. It made me want to reinstall X-Com 2 and play that instead. So that’s what I did. And it’s not about taking sides. Gears Tactics annoyed me right from the tutorial mission. Bleh.
Instead of spending £50 on this, why not just rent it for 1£ with game pass and donate the other £49 to Macks channel, as he has probably saved you more than that this year alone, if your an avid gamer.
The only other channel I watch for reviews is Jim Sterling and rarely, Angry Joe. Angry Joe is a bit too much of an idiot but you and Jim are brilliant and unbiased voices in the industry and the fact that AAA publishers avoid you like the plague really says a lot. I'd always trust your opinion.

I don't get why Mack never mentions Divinity Original Sin 2 for great turn based strategy? It was the best I thought, maybe this is better but still deserves mention.
Put my guy on overwatch with 2 ap points. THen a locust walks into view and my heavy machine gunner is shooting the medic in the back twice. I was awed and pissed at the same time lol. I was like why didn't it say I could shoot my guys in the back. ALmost lost that mission.
Great review, as soon as I saw the overwatch feature I wanted to buy the game. Btw have you heard about the game Troubleshooters - abandoned children? Supposed to be a xcom type game with jrpg elements, would be interesting to see your thoughts on that game. Anyways, love your content!
It looks really good. I love xcom. I guess the one thing I wish would be different would be the mission and level design. In xcom 2 there was so much variety in the levels and almost never seeing the same place twice was my favorite part
Glad you liked it, im playing it through game pass as i seen on steam it was £49.99 and thought no chance, after playing it for over 5 hours i got to say its worth the money!
I think that was the general consensus. Everyone assumed it would be a bad or boring x-com clone. However, it seems like most reviewers are giving it praise and having a good time. I checked it out and its pretty good. Been enjoying it so far.

Going to have to wait for a price drop (not even know if there is a planned season pass, which used to be my default trigger to pause before purchase)
You can get it on game pass for pc for £1
What amazes me is that the recommend gpu is a gtx 970..Like what the hell, the game looks really good too.
recommended =/= minimum.
It’s actually optimised really well
@@SteCollects Yeah It really is. Now I dont have to worry because I have a high end PC but still find it interesting how well they did it.
@@Plague_Doc22 really makes you think about various other games with ludicrous requirements yet not so ludicrous visuals....
A 970 for a top down game is a big ask. The recommended specs for anno 1800 is 970, but the textures are far more detailed than this game.
"50 quid"
*Laughs in gamepass*
laughs in qbittorent
What gets me in games like this is you got basically XCOM reskin with a big brand sticker slapped on it and you have to fork out 50 quid for it....
I mean XCOM popularised the genre, sure, but thats like saying every platformer is just a mario bros reskin. Everything builds off of other successes.
@@polyfission2776 Yes, I know but in this case I've got the vibe that they didn't even try to look or feel a bit different. Like "lets swap some textures and go on" type of release.
At 10:40 I see XCOM probability is present in this game. I love how your guy missed that big ass monster with a machine gun
To be fair, it seems they have to hit the yellow tanks in his back. That big ass monster might be immune to small ass .50cal machine gun :p
I played it earlier and 8 hrs later my girlfriend basically had to drag me off it great game loved every second or hours lol good review Mack 👌
Bleh.
Can't wait to play it when it come to Xbox One really soon. Great review, Mack
Instead of spending £50 on this, why not just rent it for 1£ with game pass and donate the other £49 to Macks channel, as he has probably saved you more than that this year alone, if your an avid gamer.
Awesome video as usual. Ty. Replay value sir?
I wonder if we will ever get a x-com like game with co op
As a massive Gearhead I'm happy to see all the praise this is getting. Now I have to wait for the console version as my hand me down pc can't run it
Maybe I missed it. But how long the game? :) how many missions...
Will you do mw2 remastered?
The only other channel I watch for reviews is Jim Sterling and rarely, Angry Joe. Angry Joe is a bit too much of an idiot but you and Jim are brilliant and unbiased voices in the industry and the fact that AAA publishers avoid you like the plague really says a lot. I'd always trust your opinion.
Early Angry Joe was great but as you said an idiot nowadays.
Why is angry joe an idiot? Hes literally the same as hes always been.
Jim's a sellout shill IMHO
Joe isnt an idiot he's just less harsh and I think some of his reviews are more influenced by others nowadays than before.
TheRPGentleman i find Jim likes his voice too much, i just stick with Mac tbh
First time watching your channel really like the way you review very down and dirty and to the point. This game is free for xbox gamepass users. Definitively will check out your channel alot more
Would you review pheonix point?
Taking cues from the old Fallout Tactics title? Cool...I think...I remembered liking it anyway :]
I love ya commentary mate, top work 👍🏼
Is it normal for AAA games to come at 69 euros instead of 59?
Thanks Mack for yet another great review!!!
its not really 50 squids or whatever, its free on xbox gamepass on PC
Will pick it up as soon as a decent 40k mod comes out for it. Great review
So is this on game pass ultimate? Or is this on steam ?
I don't get why Mack never mentions Divinity Original Sin 2 for great turn based strategy? It was the best I thought, maybe this is better but still deserves mention.
Hi.... i just saw a gameplay of OLD WORLD at a PotatoMcWhikey´s channel. would really know your opinion about that game
Is it worth a buy for 70€ or should I wait for a discount?
“Can’t you just get along, ffs” 👌🏼
Before i watch the review and see the verdict i been playing this since launch and im really enjoying it.
No matter what game he reviews I watch it love it keep it up Mac 👍🏻
I guess friendly fire is a thing. 1st mission shot my own guy in the face. 😅 Devs must have expected that because there is an achievement for it.
Funny lmao 😂
Put my guy on overwatch with 2 ap points. THen a locust walks into view and my heavy machine gunner is shooting the medic in the back twice. I was awed and pissed at the same time lol. I was like why didn't it say I could shoot my guys in the back. ALmost lost that mission.
Graphics look quite nice for a TBT game.
Great review, as soon as I saw the overwatch feature I wanted to buy the game. Btw have you heard about the game Troubleshooters - abandoned children? Supposed to be a xcom type game with jrpg elements, would be interesting to see your thoughts on that game. Anyways, love your content!
I would get this but for some reason it's not on console yet.
This tactical approach is just so much better and more fun than the brainless shoot them up form.
Excellent review mate!!
It looks really good. I love xcom. I guess the one thing I wish would be different would be the mission and level design. In xcom 2 there was so much variety in the levels and almost never seeing the same place twice was my favorite part
Thank you for the lovely video and humor, also the Background music is about 5% too loud,
Glad you liked it, im playing it through game pass as i seen on steam it was £49.99 and thought no chance, after playing it for over 5 hours i got to say its worth the money!
was keen to see ur pov on this since XCOM: Chimera Squad.
"Fast-paced turn-based" 🤣
I wasn't expecting this game to be any good, it's awesome when games surpass expectations! I'll definitely pick this up in the future.
I think that was the general consensus. Everyone assumed it would be a bad or boring x-com clone. However, it seems like most reviewers are giving it praise and having a good time. I checked it out and its pretty good. Been enjoying it so far.
as a fan of the series(I even own the books) I would say...It felt more Gears, then the Gears itself before it...I felt at war and it's brutal
Great timing just looking at this !
is it worth £50 though?
This actually looks awesome.
Honestly didn't expect this to be any good.
