It amazes me they managed to keep the unintentional but utterly valuable "wall bounce" from the mainline games in here as an actual FEATURE. You watch a pro Gears player literally bounce from cover to cover, sliding along like they're on greased skates...
I just started playing this today and holy hell does it have that “just one more turn” feel to it. Was planning on just the opening and a first mission and 2.5 hours later..it was dinner time. No builds yet but thanks for the ideas.
Rock Paper Shotgun it is also frightening the speed of the game (outside inventory..sigh..what is this 1990?). It just flows so smoothly for no reason I can determine. Also, sorry babbling, the ability to jump from unit to unit, spends a point, move to different one spend two pints, etc....damn now I have to go play again..brb..maybe...
In the past few months the RPS channel has become my favorite gaming channel on youtube. Just wanted to leave a comment to say I appreciate all the new content and work the video team puts in to making these videos!
These are actually really good tips. Never would have thought about some of these, super cool! Awesome that you've clearly enjoyed and got familiar/granular with this game
Yeah, I kinda love this game, which was a big surprise. Still grinding away in veteran mode, which is a good sign. I also hate tips that just repeat the tutorials, so try to avoid that where possible.
I call this the true sniper build. For the sniper the damage bonus from Run and Gun , Active Reload , Alpha, Omega all stacked together, combine this with the weapon attachment Powerbolt and you will deal a preposterous amount of damage. The Powerball attachment gives you -2 ammo so it becomes more accurate to a Gears of War Longshot sniper rifle.
I have been using the scout build for scavenger missions and have to give props to you for coming up with it! It's pure cheese and ridiculously effective - I love it!
Nearly 200 hrs in, 30 something veteran rank, and I had no idea you could set waypoints! Btw, this is a great game. Everyone should buy it so we can get a sequel. I actually enjoy this more than the normal games in the series.
Abb0able You mention that as if it’s some obscure indie title, lol. I’m all about XCOM and anything by Julian Gollop. Firaxis is bringing the XCOM formula to Marvel in a few months and I can’t wait.
@@phrozac Ah well, i got from your comment that you bought it because you liked gears. Let me test your X-com credibility did you play X-com UFO defense on a amiga or 486 computer? :P Dunno about the hero thing could be good but if Chimera squad is an indication it might be less sandbox and more scripted, Chimera was nice, but i like sandbox allot better for a full priced game.
@@Abb0able I had OG X-Com on PS1. We had an Amiga 1000 but it was nearly a decade old by the time X-Com came out. I also have Rebelstar and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars. I'm a total Gollop simp lol. I even helped to back Phoenix Point during its fundraising campaign but have yet to play it.
Demolitions Scout carried me pretty hard, with full epic Uir gear she can get grenades down to a one turn cool down, oh and if she shoots and downs someone the same turn it refreshes the cool down. Paired with a Support that gives her more actions it is pretty insane, oh and she can just go invisible if in a pinch for 2 turns while still planting and throwing proximity mines. Expertise on the weapon also means she can stay invisible the entire mission
Thanks for the tips Matthew. I’ve only played the very first mission so far but I’m already really enjoying this game. I can’t wait to see if I can put together a squad member as powerful as your heavy and sniper.
Cheers JP. Glad you're digging it - one of the good things about it is that whichever direction you go in the skill tree you have some fun. Good powers everywhere.
Got it on Xbox. I've found myself moving quickly but still spacing myself from enemies, so I've opted to not use the Heavy or Scout class, as Heavy is too turtley for me and Scout is too aggressive. I've been using 2 Vanguards, 1 Support and 1 Sniper build atm. In Act 2. Have had an idea for a very grenade heavy build, so I'm trying to get UIR armor for all my units, but we'll see how long that takes. The builds have been working out really well so far.
The part about the ctrl button, i didn't know about. The scout is my favorite class in the game. However, scout + support make for a extreme powerhouse. Use teamwork on the scout then have the scout throw a grenade, the support will get alot of actions.
I love that grenades behave the same as they do in other gears titles. Really hope to see more come from gears tactics. Hoping it’s not just some one off that we never see anything come from.
Just installed the game, first video I've watched on your channel. Second channel I've visited and definitely will stay around. Liked, Subscribed mate!
You guys are straight to the point, well planned and thoughts explained concisely. Great guides and tips, a new loyal subscriber. Also this is the least annoying voiceover I’ve heard! All the others channels are grossly over try-hard, you guys are natural and hold attention of a listener 👍🏼
Hello. I have a question about the xp winning system. What can I do to earn more xp? Where can I get information about how many xp I earned for each mob I killed?
Hey Rock Paper Shotgun! For your "recruits as free lootboxes" I belive when you dismiss a character it will auto unequip all items from them so you don't have to do it manually :)
Every other tips videos were more like, guides on how to play the game.Yours my friend is a propper tips and tricks video. Liked and subbed from me.👌🏾👏🏾👍🏿
I think the Scout class does suboptimal damage compared to most the others, but god damn do I love my scout for combat. I have put her down the skill tree with both double-shot and damage boost when attacking from cloak. It is awesome to have an invisible assassin who can literally put the barrel of her gun against her target's head without the target even realizing it. And my main man Sid is awesome with his bayonet, getting the extra action after a bayonet charge makes it super versataile. Awesome tips man, really appreciate the vid
Have you played with the scout's rampage ability - keeps going until it fails to kill. Get a group of wretches and it's amazing to see. I'm still working out best way to use my vanguard - it's the class I have the least love for, I think.
@@rockpapershot I put my scout down rampage after seeing your review of the game and hearing you mention it. It is amazing, perfect sci fi representation of a rouge. Vanguard gets better the riskier you play with that character.
Fun fact the game actually does tell you in the loading screen about sliding into cover, I don't know if that was later implemented but it exists at the time I am playing
I like the tips to micro manage your path by holding ctrl, why the game never mention that? That should be a given in the tutorial as the 1st thing you learn or did I missed that?
It's not in the tutorial. I mean, it's a staple of RTS movement, so maybe they thought it wasn't worth mentioning? I had to find it in the keyboard options screen.
Thanks for the tips even though I knew most of these. . . but I didn't know that proximity mines will auto close e-holes. I will nolonger have to worry about grenade management as much.
3:03 why looks your interface complete different from my now? i like urs more, cause in my version everytime it switched window when ill choose equiment
So far I’ve found taking Scout with 2 instant kills (support chainsaw/vanguard bayonet) and the 4th as heavy or another scout and just Grenade and prox mine spam with the scouts. Surge, empower(?) and teamwork to get more nades out, gives my support/vanguard opportunity to chainsaw/bayonet targets in cover, but in range. Haven’t found a super niche roll for Sniper or Heavy as much. Nades and the instant kills seem much better than the range and firepower provided by those classes
there are no wrong choices, all the trees have something really good and powerful down the line and you can try different builds easily between the respec option and hiring new grunts
yeah I love the Scout at the moment, free invisibility, extended reach, proximity mines and grenades with heavily boosted damage and radius. . . . she's absolutely wrecking it, especially when she's boosted by other team members actions!!
I wonder is there an indication which cover you cannot jump over (maybe all which are on elevation?), and which corners you cannot set overwatch from (only sideways)?
No, I still use them where I can - might respec the scouts for my scavenger runs. By the end of the game you really need those recruits to finish side missions, so worth levelling them up a bit where you can.
Yes, From the beginning, Recruit them, take the weapon mod and pistol (pistol is all ways better then the start pistol on you first troppers) Then kick them out of you roster to make room. Later armor come all so (Act 2 for me). When you open up for more Recruits on your roster, Then start adding more to get a bigger team. I try to have 1-2 spare slot for add to roster, take what i want, Kick them. For Act 1 i focus on mainly 4, Support, Vanguard, Scout, Heavy with some Sniper. I found out in Act 2 after a few mission, The new to pick for my roster is all ready level 3-4. So don´t see the point in trying to level up to many in Act 1, I like have 4 "strong" and 1 "medium" class in Act 1, Start Act 2. Then add more in Act 2. Yes, I did 1 mission on Act 2 with 2 LvL 2, As sometimes, You other Class cant be use. But on Experienced mode, It was no problem at all. Well that what i did, Not saying it is the best, Smarte, But work great for me. kindly.
This is the third tips video I've watched for the game. It's also the only one with any useful tips at all. Amazing work.
Good to hear!

Something about this gears game has given me more excitement than most other games in this genre
Best damn tips video... might I add the ONLY one with actual awesome tips!
