Hey Gameranx, my cat of 15 years old passed away Monday. Your informative and entertaining videos give me some comfort in some weird way. Thanks for the great video of games again.
01:56 you have room if you use the Party Limit Begone mod. Why would you have to leave companions at home when everyone can enjoy the journey together. By far, the best mod for this game.
I have two other games that give you freedom of choices, You basically create your own story and come across other people doing their thing in the world in both games. These games are: Tale of Immortal (A Cultivation game) and The Matchless Kung Fu (A Wuxia Game). These games are open world and let you create your own choice about how things will go and how you will deal with pretty much everything. Also these games have permadeath but worry not they are neither roguelike nor roguelite, You basically live your life and die as if it's real life.
I want the illusion of choice with a satisfying, yet decisive conclusion. I lean on the side of considering convoluted plots that end on multiple ending that keep you guessing is just lazy writing going for a cash grab. Too much choice just becomes painful to manage at a certain point for me. For Honor, which I’ve mentioned way more then I should on this channel is the pinnacle of simplicity and depth of choice
I love that they review ALL TYPES of games. Like that game Shadows Of Doubt I’m never going to play but it’s cool to see other genres of game I normally wouldn’t play.
Ehhh assuming you’re talking about the first two. BioWare infamously dropped the with ME3 and that’s not even getting into the ending. I love Mass Effect but it’s kind of a blatant offender where your choices don’t matter
@@bronzin1445 It’s been TWELVE YEARS and people are still salty about the ending? Lmao ME3 is still in that conversation despite people still being butt hurt about the ending even when BioWare decided to fix it. All 3 games will still be in the conversation that changed gaming

I play games so I can enjoy not having to make so many choices for a little while. It’s probably why it typically takes me over 2 hours to fully customise a car in GTA V Online to my precise liking lol, there are just so many great options.
Mass effect really does it well along with FO New Vegas. The choices of characters in ME is crucial and changes everything. Although, some choices are easier than others. I always save ashley in every playthrough. Kaidan is just meh to me. However, the other choices are not that simple. Its also very cool to see that you have to play the next games to see what happens with your choices. I loved that aspect. Its also very realistic results. The only problem I have with some of these games is the tediousness of some battles, parts, and dialogue. Glitches also suck when they ruin a game and you didn't save before the glitch except for the one time 10 levels and 8 quests back.
Yo! Blastcorp!! Oh man, I LOVE those moments when something/someone reminds you of a game you loved and spent so much time with decades ago that you kind of feel a weird bit of guilt you forgot even existed, welp I know what ROM I'm playing later tonight! 😂 Good shout Jake!, good shout 🤙
Pave my path with corpses, build my castle with bones. You dont need to go evil with The Dark Urge in BG3 tho. I feel it's so much more rewarding to go on a redemption run with that character, which to me is the true protagonist of the game!
Played New Vegas for the first time last year and it completely changed my perspective on what a game could be! Playing Tale Of Two Wastelands now. Just finished DC (FO3) at level 47, and traveled to the Mojave to start second playthrough of New Vegas... And it's immediately a completely different playthrough! With high stats and perks like Lady killer and Child At Heart, I have many more dialogue options (choices). Fwiw, this go round, didn't listen to a word Vulpes Inculta had to say before I vaporized him! Caesar is next on the list. 😁
i think mass effect is the perfect balance because it's not too many major plot choices *per game* but over time the effects of these choices really compound.
Literally my first thought when clicking this video was Disco Elysium. Once again, People just continue to ignore it's existence, Shame cause it's seriously one of the greatest games I've ever played.
To be fair to Baldur's Gate 3: Larian was going for the same amount of choices that you have in D&D regularly. They did, of course, take out some of the more silly choices a player can make in the tabletop like using a handkerchief as a weapon. (Improvised 1 + STR damage).
Nice video, but like a few other videos, i felt like a game like Football Manager could be on the list, i know its not kind of the games you usually cover or play but it's a special game.
I played through each Mass Effect as they released on the 360 and then played through them all again in a few months on the PS5 with the collection when it released. Truly, sincerely, one of my favorite game series, stories and even the soundtrack and lighting in that game has a unique feel to it. Truly, not much like it, especially carrying over such narrative game to game. WIsh there was another coming sooner as all we got was a teaser for the, proper, sequel years ago and no word since :(
Just throwing out this as an idea for a list - Games that might not hold up if you're playing them for the first time now. ie, they could be widely agreed upon as good, even great, games, but objectively part of that came from experiencing it back when standards were different. I've personally had that happen a few times and would be curious if others have too (and with what).
I will never understand how people can feel like more choice = bad. I get it, people suffer from choice paralysis, so science tells me, but for me having more and more options extremely outweighs feeling of not being quite sure what to do in the moment, especially when it comes to games. More choice = more ways to play = more unique and interesting gameplay = more value for your money.
Number 8 really hits home if you’re like me and live in a rural area without access to high speed internet. A 60 gig game takes about 2 days to download if you’re lucky
One that gave me anxiety? Path of Exile. If choosing which gems to socket and which support gems to go with those socketed gems, while hoping for something to drop with the exact links and colors to match, or the currency to make something yourself wasn't enough of a set of choices, then you had this massive skill tree to build your character in that if you didn't read (or google a build) before you started taking skills, you prolly messed your build up with the first choice. The story was at least fairly linear with little branching narrative to it, but the depth of it's gameplay and character building was insanely deep with choices.
I can't wait to see the Custom Battles of DB Sparking Zero. You get to make your own stories with 182 characters/Transformations. Imagine the Team Battles. 🤯
BG3 should be #1 when it comes to choices and decisions. No other game has as many diverse choices. Mass Effect is my favorite series and most played game series of all time though. Favorite sci-fi too.
"we're not here to tell you whether it's a great game or not" Chrono Cross IS a great game without a doubt. and doing the Chrono Cross for the last battle is a must. sometimes tricky to do, but a must. also if you wanted to talk about choices in characters Suikoden I and II beat Chrono Cross. physically, visually, i always play as the same dude in F3 and FNV lol the first time i played F3 i liked him so much i face swapped him into FNV and whenever i replay either game i get my guy his face back. same goes for F4. i just can't possibly imagine playing as anyone else. one older version of my F3 guy actually surprisingly looks like Jacksepticeye and i wasn't even trying. defo not playing as that version though lol have nothing against him but i don't wanna play as him.
Fun fact, when you have Glen with you, if you go to the other dimension with him, you can pick up the sword you find him next to the grave with, and you can then dual wield after that with him.
I feel like Yakuza Like A Dragon and Infinite Wealth could be a good fit. On its premise, it's a Yakuza drama with turn-based strategy gameplay, BUT there's also golfing, swimming, batting cages, darts, karaoke, go-kart races, slots, built-in Sega emulation. There's almost too much in the games
Dead by Daylight needed to be on this list. Are you going to play killer or survivor? - Which character do you chose? - Do you go with an original or one of the licensed ones? Perks you chose determines your playstyle both on killer and survivor... then if Survivor what item/add-ons are you going to use? - if Killer what add-ons? - Do you want to bring in an offering that gives you bonus Blood Points or chose a specific map, or some of the other options? - then there is the cosmetics - How are you going to dress your character? - - - - lots of choices.
Surprised there was no Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The number of ways you can do tasks, defeat enemies or solve puzzles is only limited to your imagination. Definitely unique in that regard.
Fallout New Vegas is a perfect example of how to design a game with infinite choices well. Sure you have the classic "good, neutral and bad" choice, but if you have low/high standing with a faction, super high (or low) trait and/or a specific perk you suddenly have additional dialogue or extra interactions. All depending on how you play the game.
It's all the choices in Baldur's Gate 3 that helps really capture the feeling and experience of playing a real D&D game. But, yeah, it's a lot. Just think of it as an opportunity for replays.
Clancy Brown doesn't get enough love. Best Lex Luthor. On a level that Conroy excelled as Batman (Rest in power) and Hamill did Joker. Captain Hadley was another tremendous performance of his.
I like choice in my games, so long as those choices are few in number and highly impactful. The greater the number of choices, the less likely they are to be truly impactful. When they cease to be impactful, they cease being actual choices.
I really hate to be this guy, but this is another one of those Gameranx lists that ABSOLUTELY should have included Warframe somewhere in the list. This game continues to be a glaring blind spot for you guys on so many levels. I know many looter/shooters have a lot to them, but Warframe absolutely takes the cake in this regard, and many other, in the entire scope of gaming. "If you aren't paying attention to Warframe, you aren't paying attention to gaming and where it's going." - SKillUp
For BG3, I had no idea what I was doing for my first run and I played the game without the help of friends and a guide and I just had to restart from the very beginning to get it full experience from it. I ended up doing the 1 and done for this game and being truly satisfied with what I accomplished for it.
I recommend anyone who loves to watch very wholesome and family friendly sims playthrough to go watch Call Me Kevin. He makes some very wholesome content, especially for the SIMS. ....all hail Jim Pickens
Citizen Sleeper. I love the game. Your choices really matter. But you are also at the whims of the daily dice rolls. A character you love could live or die in whether you choose to use your best roll for something or you are desperate for energy or healing so chance those getting the best rolls. Loads of the game is on different timers too so you are constantly juggling personal needs with different story beats. Can you risk waiting a day on one storyline instead of another. It's fantastic but you have to live with your choices and their consequences. No save and reload to get round things either.
He forgot to mention that in mass effect 2 if you make one wrong decision in the final mission then you lose certain characters permanently and they won't be in mass effect 3
These are the games I wish I could have played when I was a kid. But I wasn't allowed to game. I have such a hard time committing to Dishonoured, Prey, BG3, New Vegas, OuterWilds, Deus Ex, Become Human and System Shock. I get paralysis by analysis, get absolutely nowhere in the time I have to play them, and give up lol.

BioWare’s Mass Effect is the definition on how to make an innovative game that’s fun & unique
22:29 It took me way too long to realize that Richter is NOT the bot. How is bro getting rekt so hard by this Level 2 CPU?
I love all of these games! I guess I love having lots of choices.
All the choices in 7 & 6 still got me gaming.
Banger video to drop on my Birthday
I can't wait to see the Custom Battles of DB Sparking Zero. You get to make your own stories with 182 characters/Transformations. Imagine the Team Battles. 🤯
Man I’d love for the new Microsoft to release Rare Replay on PlayStation! So many memories from my N64 days that I’d love to revisit!
BG3 should be #1 when it comes to choices and decisions. No other game has as many diverse choices. Mass Effect is my favorite series and most played game series of all time though. Favorite sci-fi too.
We NEED a full Fallout:NV remake.
Nice vid😊
"we're not here to tell you whether it's a great game or not"
Chrono Cross IS a great game without a doubt. and doing the Chrono Cross for the last battle is a must. sometimes tricky to do, but a must.
also if you wanted to talk about choices in characters Suikoden I and II beat Chrono Cross.
physically, visually, i always play as the same dude in F3 and FNV lol the first time i played F3 i liked him so much i face swapped him into FNV and whenever i replay either game i get my guy his face back. same goes for F4. i just can't possibly imagine playing as anyone else. one older version of my F3 guy actually surprisingly looks like Jacksepticeye and i wasn't even trying. defo not playing as that version though lol have nothing against him but i don't wanna play as him.
Who remembers SPARTAN TOTAL WARRIOR, on the PS2…. I just thought about it, that game was so good
The Binding of Isaac has a LOT of difficult choices and pitfalls. Enter the Gungeon has EVEN MORE. Neon Abyss says "HOLD MY BEER!"
i played mass effect trilogy 5 or 6 times, just to see how the story could change.
my favourite series so far...
There's almost too much in the games
this guy has something against the megaten series and Yakuza series. He doesn't include them in most of these videos.
- - - - lots of choices.
love ur daily videos
Surprised there was no Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The number of ways you can do tasks, defeat enemies or solve puzzles is only limited to your imagination. Definitely unique in that regard.
Fallout New Vegas is a perfect example of how to design a game with infinite choices well. Sure you have the classic "good, neutral and bad" choice, but if you have low/high standing with a faction, super high (or low) trait and/or a specific perk you suddenly have additional dialogue or extra interactions. All depending on how you play the game.
Pentiment simply overwhelms me. There comes a point where i hit too many "what if" moments and I give up to start again.
my Steam library gives me anxiety the most while deciding what to play next
You should check out Majuular's video on Chrono Cross. Not only is it super entertaining but it goes into some detail about the localization process
🔥🔥Jakey’s on fire🔥🔥
The hardest choice in gaming ever-choosing your starter Pokemon
It's all the choices in Baldur's Gate 3 that helps really capture the feeling and experience of playing a real D&D game. But, yeah, it's a lot. Just think of it as an opportunity for replays.
32:04 The meme from Mass Effect "My face is tired" never gets old kkkkkkkkkk
And we're back again with the numbers! Wish I didn't thank you for the names in a previous video as you didn't stick to it!
Sometimes you really need a good guide! Sometimes you just dive in deep! 😂👍
Kinda surprised that the Suikoden games weren’t on this list.
28:50 Now I want to know about the adventures of Cwagaihjapijaavaoino, the armored hero xD
For BG3, I had no idea what I was doing for my first run and I played the game without the help of friends and a guide and I just had to restart from the very beginning to get it full experience from it. I ended up doing the 1 and done for this game and being truly satisfied with what I accomplished for it.
👍🏼
If you were gonna have Smash and Tekken, should have mentioned the big standout of Tekken, the amount of moves characters have.
Cool vid overall.
