I am confused about people who fel this doesn't fit, because it goes well with the cover system of the Gears game. It makes sense. At least in theory. I haven't played it yet.
I never thought that I'd see Gears of War get turned into a turn based strategy title. However, somehow, it ends up working quite nicely. Gears of War has always been about it's visceral and brutal combat, which translates well into Gears Tactics. Despite the change in gameplay and perspective, this is still a Gears of War game at it's heart. That's what's important. Having said that, I will definitely have to give this one a shot. Otherwise, thanks Karak once again for another great review. I really appreciate it!
The more I see Gears Tactics, the more its graphics and art style remind me of Dawn of War II. Yes Gears does take inspiration from WH40K that's unmistakable, but Tactics just makes the similarities just that much clearer as far as strategy games are concerned.

Gears 5 got a %50 discount shortly after release, will hope this gets the same , Gers 5 turned out as a pleasant surprise to me, this seems fun and will be worth it at around $30.
This is a pleasant surprise, I didn't think much would come of this game. I would love a Fallout game in this style (like BoS), but it looks like this game and hopefully Wasteland 3 will do for now.
I thought that Gears would make a great SRPG years before this was made and was so glad when they announced it but less so that im still waiting for the console release date.
W40K kinda already have Mechanicus & Space hulk Tactics for a more XCOM-like TBS games. Although I admit I would love to see something like this or maybe even more personal story based like Valkyria Chronicles games, with unique characters (different backgrounds, quirks, etc), vehicles (like APC, tanks, etc), third person character movements, & maybe also a organ based attack system.
Warhammer 40K is a RIPE universe for excellent games. It’s mind blowing to me how we have seen so many releases using the setting yet so few of them are good. I would freaking love a 40K game like this.
Thanks for the amazing content. I love watching these videos. You have saved me from buying terrible games. You inspired me to do playthroughs of excellent games on my channel like ff7 remake, death stranding, and judgment
I actually like the more zoomed out view more... I don't need to see the close up detail of the gun on my squad members... because I KNOW who my squad members are and what I ARM them with because I made damn sure every member has a role to fill and where I need to place them and I don't just slap some guns to them and forget about it 10 seconds later. And if by SOME REASON I forgot... I can see the weapon they had from the icon of the weapon card on the character as I cycle through them. The more zoomed out view gives me better view of what is HAPPENING and WHERE are the important things are located (ie: my squad members and the enemies) I don't understand why ppl want to get closer to the ground on a TACTICAL game of any sort DURING the actual command phase given your ENTIRE success rely on having situational awareness and the closer you are to the ground, THE LESS you can see of what's happening in the larger picture.
Iono Sama I think it’s because you are looking at it based on a purely mechanical feel while others may be looking at it from a presentation perspective. You know, that feeling of being down there with the troops.
Movement is a bit more like Valkyria Chronicles it seems. But quite a bit more depth, even the VC4. Day one purchase for me. Thanks for the review. I'm not into narrative or lore in games (much) so I won;t miss that part of XCom 2 (Which I have over 1,000 hours in on Steam and never watched a cut scene.. literally never. No interest) So this seems ideal, Looking for a new turn based challenge. That said Xcom2 Complete is another day one purchase for the Switch in May for me
Excellent review as always but for me, not a buy. I do have several games like this but for me it seems to be missing a lot of something, atmosphere and camera angles. Ill wait until it's $10 or so.
Surprisingly fun game. I really loved the execution mechanic, rewards you for playing aggressively. Storyline/setting/characters were rubbish, but the gameplay was solid!
I can’t blame them. If I were to make a game it would be a final fantasy tactics inspired game (not that this is, but the tactics in the name obviously comes from that game and tactics ogre).
Who knew that X-COM would have such a great influence on game developers? What's next? Witcher Tactics? VTM Tactics? Fable Tactics? Cyberpunk Tactics? Resident Evil Tactics? Dark Souls Tactics? I mean, the list could go on forever!

I immediately thought "hey has carrack put music from predator on the footage"...and then bam you called it out.. WOW so close to predator!
Gears 5 got a %50 discount shortly after release, will hope this gets the same , Gers 5 turned out as a pleasant surprise to me, this seems fun and will be worth it at around $30.
Xcom 2 war of the chosen wasnt as hard as it should be? Wow I thought that game was quite challenging. Your a gaming monster ACG
I think he's talking about Chimera Squad which released a few days ago, not XCOM 2
Very excited for a gears game without micro transactions.
For now...
First xbox exclusive game to not be on xbox. What a time to be an xbox user.
This should have been Dawn of War 4. It's so almost 40K that it might as well be 40K.
Would definitely love a combination of DoW 1 and DoW 2 put inside this turn-based combat system. It would lend itself too perfect for this.
The hair on the main character looks like Guts' (Berserk) hair if he got an undercut.
If metal moments i gaming isnt a subreddit, someone gotta make it
with 70 euro price tag this is not just a NEVER TOUCH but also a SEED UNTIL THE ENDTIMES.
Thanks for the amazing content. I love watching these videos. You have saved me from buying terrible games. You inspired me to do playthroughs of excellent games on my channel like ff7 remake, death stranding, and judgment
thanks
I didn't even know about this game so thanks TH-cam recommendations! Will be buying this tomorrow!
I remember the first time I played XCOM and thought straight away , gears would be good in this style as a strategy game
Music reminds me of the original predator movie so much.
yu[ iit does
Awesome video, TY How is the replayability? TY
The more zoomed out view gives me better view of what is HAPPENING and WHERE are the important things are located (ie: my squad members and the enemies)
I don't understand why ppl want to get closer to the ground on a TACTICAL game of any sort DURING the actual command phase given your ENTIRE success rely on having situational awareness and the closer you are to the ground, THE LESS you can see of what's happening in the larger picture.

I think it’s because you are looking at it based on a purely mechanical feel while others may be looking at it from a presentation perspective. You know, that feeling of being down there with the troops.
5:36 very predator movie style, nice
Movement is a bit more like Valkyria Chronicles it seems. But quite a bit more depth, even the VC4.
Day one purchase for me. Thanks for the review. I'm not into narrative or lore in games (much) so I won;t miss that part of XCom 2 (Which I have over 1,000 hours in on Steam and never watched a cut scene.. literally never. No interest) So this seems ideal, Looking for a new turn based challenge.
That said Xcom2 Complete is another day one purchase for the Switch in May for me
ya movement system is interesting
Excellent review as always but for me, not a buy. I do have several games like this but for me it seems to be missing a lot of something, atmosphere and camera angles. Ill wait until it's $10 or so.
Thank you and I get that
Thanks for the review. I think it’s really reinforced my decision that Desperados 3 was a better purchase.
This game is fire 🔥
I love Gears and Xcom but I don’t use my Xbox for anything anymore. But maybe this’ll make me plug it in
Surprisingly fun game.
You do know that Fallout Tactics is also a thing, right
Im so certain they either have a cash shop now or will patch one in within the month. Ill let things shake out before considering it
Awesome Lanny Poffo reference!
A lot of people throwing the name XCOM out there.
I like that.
Can't wait to play this. Thanks ACG for the awesome ass reviews 🔥🤙🏾
Woh woh woh you you said no mtx AND you didn't run into any bugs? Are we sure this game is releasing in 2020? Lol
Doom Eternal and Final Fantasy 7 Remake also didn't have any microtransactions or bugs
randomguy6679 yeah, plenty of games don’t. That’s not to say that none do, but it’s felt a lot less problematic to me this year, so far.
I think turn based tactics is my favorite genre so I'll definitely give this a go on game pass
Great review man, love how detailed and deep you went into this game!
oh cool, Im glad to see they put some good effort into this, I will of course give it a shot. Great review 😁
Who knew that X-COM would have such a great influence on game developers? What's next? Witcher Tactics? VTM Tactics? Fable Tactics? Cyberpunk Tactics? Resident Evil Tactics? Dark Souls Tactics? I mean, the list could go on forever!
