    Everyone talking about that metaverse but no one talking about the eye strain you get whenever you use VR for an extended period

    • @laartwork
      @laartwork ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a sign your ipd isn't set right. If it is then next question is do you wear glasses? If you do then you need to have your glasses or prescription lenses. Yes especially of you are near sighted. But having spent thousands of hours in VR and never felt strain (except with a headset that could not get my ipd right).

    • @ItsPaulby
      @ItsPaulby ปีที่แล้ว

      VR can potentially cause eye strain for some individuals, but it's not inherent to VR technology itself. Eye strain can occur due to a few reasons:
      1. **Motion sickness:** If your VR experience causes motion sickness, it can indirectly lead to eye discomfort.
      2. **Low refresh rates:** Some older or less advanced VR systems may have lower refresh rates, which can contribute to eye strain.
      To prevent eye strain in VR:
      1. Adjust settings: Ensure your VR headset is correctly calibrated, and the interpupillary distance (IPD) is set to match your eyes.
      2. Maintain proper lighting: Avoid excessive glare or too much brightness in your VR environment.
      3. Use quality equipment: Higher-quality VR headsets often have better displays and refresh rates, which can reduce eye strain.
      4. Stay hydrated: Keeping your eyes hydrated is important, so drink enough water.
      5. Limit usage: Don't spend excessive hours in VR; take regular breaks to rest your eyes.
      If you experience severe eye strain, discomfort, or any adverse symptoms while using VR, it's essential to discontinue use and consult with an eye care professional.

    wear a battery pack on the back of your headset, its a game changer. It acts as a counter weight to the front of the headset AND extends the playing time of your headset. Before my neck would get sore after just 30 minutes, now the battery will run out and there's no sore neck issues whatso ever

    • @robnjk

    This is particularly useful for the folks who still have a Quest 2, and don't know the potential. You might not be able to answer, but if I'm cutting a video in Premiere, can I use one of the virtual displays as a video monitor with mercury playback? And can see 3 displays on MacBook Air M1 or M2? That woud be beyond spec, which rules. I travel and edit a lot so it'd help me cut down on weight. Thanks.

    • @robnjk
      @robnjk  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally! So it’s possible to have up to 2 virtual displays along with your laptop monitor, so in theory you could have one monitor that’s your timeline, one that’s just video playback, and one that has your media bin. They only caveat I can see here is the fact that Workrooms needs you to establish your desk first and I’m not sure if there’s a workaround this (maybe using a plane tray table with suffice?) alternatively you could try the app Immersed VR which isn’t quite as slick as Workrooms but allows for a lot more customization, but if you just plan on editing in Cafes or hotel rooms than it totally works

    I can kind of work in Meta Workspace with simple drag and drop projects but for more technical projects its difficult. Now I never tried Meta Quest 3 maybe thats better. I love the fact that I can put myself into an immersive world but unfortunately I feel like I am looking through a scuba mask to work. I think VR work does have a future. VR work would be great for those trapped under Evil Corpo florescent lights.

    Subscribed. Watching this a month after you posted it, but a cool thing that happened to me this week was some new opportunities to collaborate in the metaverse and possibly get into some unity and 3d modeling side gig work as well as work for my fulltime job to extend to our clients. Short term work looks like building out some 3d spaces and interactive experiences. Longterm, who knows...but I would love to find more people looking to just chat and hang out in workrooms during the day and shoot the breeze or collab on things. I do wish you could have multiple screens in a meeting, but I get that there are limitations.

    How is the FOV? i was so excited when i first started researching about vr until i found out about the limited foc vr headsets have, does it kills the immersion? im planning on getting a Quest 2 but im not sure if i should wait for the upcomming Quest 3

    • @robnjk
      @robnjk  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never found the FOV to kill immersion. One thing I was surprised about when I got my Quest 2 was the cone of clarity in the middle of the lenses. Just beyond the centre of the lenses, you can see a noticeable drop in resolution (in your peripheral vision). My guess is to keep processing power down. I believe this isn’t an issue with the Quest Pro because of the eye tracking - if you can get a good deal on a Quest 2, then it might be worth going for it because I’ve had a lot of fun with mine, but I wouldn’t buy one for full retail price at this stage
