63 YO grandma here;) Just got a Quest2 and I'm already loving it so much. I've been only looking for exercise and non-gaming Apps and ways to also get VR experiences with things I already do. This was all SO helpful! Thank you. I've used Google Tilt when I was teaching elementary and middle school. A also purchased a museum experience (created by the Tate Museum in London) and it was amazing for my classroom. Walking and interacting with Mondrian's studio was wonderful! My (Apple) school bought me a PC (whole other learning curve I had to muddle through alone) just so I could use VR with my kiddos (Vive at that time). The kids were so engaged when they had their turn using it. I retired at the start of Covid and now so happy I can keep learning and play around again with VR and without the expense of buying a gaming PC. Being untethered is game changer! After watching your video it looks like there is enough here to keep me busy learning and exploring, for awhile. I only wish I had other retired gal pals IRL that I could share my excitement with...so spilling over here. Apologies.

Love this comment as well. Some perspective; my grandma owned 40 acres of bottomland (pecan groves) but lived in 2 room house, water was by hand pump and the shitter was out back aways.
That was about 60 years ago.

Don't underestimate the social interaction value provided by the multiplayer games. Getting the Walkabout Mini Golf, Golf +, Eleven table tennis, and First Person Tennis games have allowed me to interact regularly with friends ad family around the country that I would otherwise interact with once in a blue moon. It's turned out to be by far the best thing about VR for me.

Absolutely agree with your list! In addition, I would add: 1.) *LOST RECIPES* - the best description I can offer is that it is a "relaxing cooking experience." I was shocked at how enjoyable this was, puttering around in ancient kitchens learning ancient cooking techniques. It's really great, I promise! 2.) *PUZZLING PLACES* and/or *CUBISM* - relaxing tactical puzzles games with 3D pieces that float in the air around you. Cubism has the option for passthrough view. 3.) *DANCE CENTRAL* - even just the free sample is fun to dance on a real dance floor and learn some moves. 4.) a *TH-cam VR EXPERIENCE* - like floating over Las Vegas is a crowd pleaser for newbies.
I would also suggest *MALOKA* as a great meditation and relaxation app. It gives you your own peaceful "mediation island" that you build out and design the more you mediate.
For anyone new to VR, you will be surprised by how much meeting in VR can feel like a more "real" or "natural" way to hang out than having a video call does. I have far-away family and hanging out with them for a round of golf in *WALKABOUT GOLF* or some bowling in *FOREVER BOWL* or watching something in *BIG SCREEN* actually feels like hanging out. It is 1000% better than sitting still in front of a zoom screen. It may not be intuitive if you haven't yet tried VR, but spatially it feels a lot more like we are "together" having a fun shared experience and joking around, than staring at each other awkwardly on screen does.
TIP: When we have people over who want to experience VR, we project what's happening in VR to our big screen TV. (Popular when using *GOLF 5 eClub* - to watch everyone's attempts at the driving range) Do a web search for easy instructions. In my case I need to connect to my laptop via the meta web link logon, initiate connection while wearing the headset. I then use the "project" function on my laptop to easily project to our smart TV. (But everyone's tech and connectivity will be different.)

I think a lot of people underestimate how much real experiences be replaced by virtual reality experiences.

So far I have seen and managed VRT for drones, Geo positioning, AutoCad for infrastruktura mapping. One will win Microsoft for business, Meta for fun and who know maybe google will make something nice too. and Steam for gaming hard core fans.

It requires a PC, but SpaceEngine. (Can also be run outside of VR on one's PC.) It lets you visit the worlds of our solar system and the universe. Hover over Saturn. Stand on a Jovian moon and look up to see how Jupiter would look from that vantage point. This would fall under an educational app. It does deliver a strong dose of awe if one enjoys astronomy.

Polarized eyewear is a minor distraction for most audiences, although it does reduce brightness. Stereo imaging in a theater projection setting is very difficult to "get right" due to the varying geometry required for different seating positions. Sit to far away, and you get "stretch". Too far left or right from center? Not good. Also, the range of interocular distances in the audience must be accommodated to prevent smaller interoculars from becoming excessively "wall-eyed". Even the screen size itself makes a variable to be considered. It ain't easy, and it's amazing it works as well as it does. VR eyewear has distinctive advantages that overcomes all of the above (except the need for special eyewear).

Good point but in VR you would sit in the perfect spot. Everyone can. You wouldn't have to sit in the nose bleed balcony top left seat to watch a film. So unless the purpose of the app is to explore a theater rather than to watch a film, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

      3D movies, overrated
      Virtual painting, yawn
Travel around the world, too limited
      Attending events, booooooooring
Get in shape, annoying and uncomfortable with VR (sweating on hardware) better do it without VR
      Graffiti, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING
      Hold meetings, Annoying with vr
Watch TV, uncomfortable, just do it without VR
      Socialize, meh....
      Meditate, uncomfortable
Learn , what a gimmick, just learn without VR headset on ya face
Study sculpture, Meh...... go to a real arts class to do that
Poker, more fun face to face
Compete in a sport, again same as mentioned before as "get in shape" it's uncomfortable

@@thomasherzog3318 you don't have to be tethered and the next quest 2 pro or Cambria or whatever will be a lot more like ski-goggles or something instead of the pretty big boxes we have now. if I had to guess it'll be 5-10 years and then everyone will own a pair of AR/VR glasses just like everyone has a smartphone now, I think AR will be key to getting the mainstream since most people will want to see the real world most of the time and AR has the potential to replace pretty much all screens we use now..

This could be a great method to attend support groups for ppl who've become house bound. Have a moderator and maybe 15 people or 20. Gets crazy after that. I used to lead men's support group in Toronto but nothing here an hour north. Is this a possibility? Ps I've only just begun after seeing Kayak Oasis. Luckily bought on sale. New head strap is crazy needed. My psvr headset is a perfect fit. Strange company but excited. Hate FB tho.

I only ask because I'm really interested in getting the Quest 3 for meditating on the beach but always wondered if it allows you to feel like you are actually walking on the beach or any other location. I hope that makes since. Have a great day.

You spoke about the great fitness apps you can use instead of playing games but many of the games are pretty good at keeping you fit as well. Beat Sabre is one of the most popular games but it is also great for keeping you trim and supple even if it is not building muscles. Alternatively just try the game that the kids all love, Gorilla Tag. Because you move around fast using just your arms it gives you a great workout. One warning though, make sure you have plenty of space around you and ideally find a small rug to stand on so you do not move too far as that game is responsible for more broken TVs, hands and Quest controllers than any other game!
