Today I check out a high gain guitar amp I didn't realize ever existed. The ‪@LaneyAmplification‬ Ironheart (IRT15H) Revision 2. This inexpensive lunchbox amp was only made for a few years and has been discontinued. But this amp sounds killer and given the recent release of solid-state small form factor amps from Laney, it would seem this updated version of the amp may have been axed before its prime!

Great demo of this thing! Might have to pick one up as my first high gain head

They pop up used here and there and are pretty inexpensive overall. Decent range of tones and my favorite thing is the top end isn’t super harsh or fizzy!

Nice demo. The Laney Ironheart series is really cool. The 60-watt versions are pretty darn versatile as well. It can get plenty of great tones.

I would like to check out the big brother amps sometime if I can find a good deal on one!

That thing is rad. I didn’t know about it until your first pic. Also, the demo/mix tones gave me Killswitch Engage vibes!

@@BaritoneGoatStudio that's awesome! You nailed that sound whether you meant to or not! They used Ironhearts at one point in their career.

Killswitch we’re using the iron heart for a while and they had the red led light changed to a dark blue on their amps

I was basically given this amp by a friend, trying record some multitracks with it but having a hard time dialing in the sound to blend well, could you possibly give some pointers on what settings to try?
    Context:
One track is an ampsim the other was recorded with a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister (same cab for both)
Guitar is baritone tuned to drop f#, style is early death doom like paradise lost, my dying bride.

For this amp overall I would focus on the "Tone" control knob and the Mids. it you want it to cut more, up the Tone control to get more presence out of the Power Amp section. I would also recommend re-amping a DI track and messing with the controls on playback. If you aren't using a mic and real cab, using a load box/DI box combo is the best and third party IRs are better than the built-in emulation. I am also not sure if the Line Out on this amp bypasses the power amp controls or not. Either way I wouldn't use the line-out for anything other than a gig situation.
If you are just looking to use this amp as a blend for beefing up the existing tracks, scoop the mids a bit more than you would typically and see if you can get a little more growl from the dynamics control knob. If your main tracks are pretty gain heavy, which I suspect they would be, you can dial back the "drive" control here and lean more on the pre-boost to fill out the tone. Again, the best way to blend the amp is to be able to mess with the controls on play-back if possible.
Also, for mixing in general, I recommend having plugins that will allow you to widen the stereo image of the guitars (especially for secondary tracks), add saturation to a separate mix-bus for these tracks, and a having dynamic compressor on hand to tame frequencies at point where they conflict with the mix.

@@BaritoneGoatStudio Thanks for the well written response m8, I didn't buy the amp so I never really sat down to figure out how it works and kinda just tried to copy the settings from my H&K which definetly seems to be the wrong approach

Are you using a gate? Pretty low noise for a high gain head if not.

Oh yeah! I have an ISP Decimator between the boost pedals and the amp. Without it, I would definitely be getting more ambient noise and possibly a bit of feedback when the boost pedals were on.
