Both very cool amps to own . I have the Laney IRT15 Studio .. its awesome . Also a 1986 Laney AOR30 combo .. it kills ! Here in the mix , the Laney has a nice cut - through mid presence , and its thick and rich . The Orange is different , but interesting as well . But bang for the buck ... Laney is hard to beat . Been a Laney / Marshall user since the 80's . Nice tune there ! Sounds great . Cool demo of 2 great amps and a skilled musician .
Love my Dark Terror. Works fantastic for black/death metal, among other things. Personal favorite shape setting is about at the 10 o clock setting, has a great really heavy sound but also has some nice murk to it perfect for the genres.
I’ve got the micro terror and it’s eve weakest sounding amp for metal I’ve tried, even with a revvg3 and a tube screamer as options. I find myself using the amp as clean and using a metal zone with the tube screamer 😢
I think most people don't consider Laney amps because they are too affordable and so they think of them as subpar quality. I own a IRT15 and an AOR30 and both amps are great adn reliable, I compared them with a Dark Terror a friend has and the Orange doesn't even come close to sound as good to my ears.
Hi I played a AOR 50 once and I liked the sound but didn't care for how the eq knobs reacted with the amp. How does the IRT compare to the AOR sound wise?
Can any of these 2 be used in apartment? Or will I need lots of volume to get decent distorted sound even with a tubescreamer? The dark terror got the gain at quite low volume I saw near the end of vid. But can the IRT do that aswell? In other words... Which one would you pick if you lived in an apartment? :)
Question: If the Laney has a headphone output, does that mean that mean it has a "speaker defeat" feature that allows it to be disconnected from a cabinet without harming the amp?
The Orange has limited EQ but honestly I think that's perfect for the whoever just wants to plug their amp in and just instantly know what it's gonna sound like, both sound great tho
Every amp should have a Pre-Boost or a Pre-Gain stage built in. That's what many guitar players are looking for... am I wrong? To me, a good amp is an amp that does not need any overdrive in front of it!
Great video but you confuse me more than i am already hahaha I can grab orange for 290 and laney for 270...which one will have the best tone for thing like slipknot stone sour soil... BTW your video are really nice !
I tried the 6505mh side by side with a Laney IRT Studio at a local shop. The 6505mh was a nice amp, but the Laney blew it away. The 6505mh sounded fizzy by comparison, while the Laney growled. I ended up buying the Laney, and I'm really happy with it. I don't have any experience with the Dark Terror, so i can't speak to those.
Simple, Laney all the way. Designed and built in the good old industrial Midlands (Where I'm from 🤗). I'm surprised how rare it is to see a Laney about though even in England, out of 30+ guitarists I no only three own one, sad really, their awesome.
The Laney wins hands down. Ive compared both only recently in a music shop and the orange was a bit of a one trick pony. the Laney can get a clean tone believe it or not and you can get nice blues o/d to rock crunch all the way up to high gain metal. And the pre boost kicks it into the stratosphere. Theres just more range and of course it looks awesome. The orange is ugly and generic and lacks a good mid range boost which is the preferred metal tone these days.
NOTIFICATION SQUAD. Also, it seems to me that the Dark Terror has superior tones when dialled correctly, but it also seems easier to dial in something proper wank. Laney seems to sound relatively decent pretty much everywhere EQ wise, but is just missing something, ya know?
Orange doesnt give you much for those hefty prices, i like customization i would never buy an orange for the price of some of the heads you could have full setups
So close,I would buy whichever is less expensive which is LANEY..Arent these all just rectifier copies anyways?..Why over pay for a Mesa anymore..especially when Laney cabs are the best value PERIOD..LANEY WINS!!!
I have both and I love both for their characters, so I'm just here to rain on the party. Because... comparing tube amps at ~10% of their power tube volume is a bit, well, unrepresentative. Especially with the Orange, everyone knows (by now) that they're designed to sound best or "most characteristic" at full volume, not at 10% where the distortion has to come purely from the preamp stage and will 10/10 times sound like ass. :/
What territory are you in, also, are you comparing prices of the IRT15 with the Dark Terror, or the IRT60?Locally, the IRT15 is approx £400 and the Dark Terror is approx £500. The Laney is £100/$120US cheaper here. edit: just found the Laney for £335. So, to me, the Laney sounds better, is more flexible and a lot cheaper.
Your stuff is awesome, high quality content about metal equipment. I am glad to found this TH-cam channel. Cheers simon
Thanks Steven
Also, there's some sick jams on here too man. Good job.
Both have nice flavors. The Laney maybe has more definition and punch. The Orange more fuzzy goodness. I see both as good fun.
That tone at 12:25 with the Orange 😍😍😍😍 so thick and fuzzy. I love my dark terror.

Hands down the laney
The Laney is a BEAST!
Great tone Simon !!
Each sounds killer in its own right. Would pair really well in L- R mixes!
Laney had bit more tightness in the low end perhaps?
Love my Dark Terror. Works fantastic for black/death metal, among other things. Personal favorite shape setting is about at the 10 o clock setting, has a great really heavy sound but also has some nice murk to it perfect for the genres.
I love mine at 1 O’clock with the gain at 2
I’ve got the micro terror and it’s eve weakest sounding amp for metal I’ve tried, even with a revvg3 and a tube screamer as options. I find myself using the amp as clean and using a metal zone with the tube screamer 😢
Good job, thanks! I'm not.a.typical.metal head but am.interested in both these .amp.
The Laney seems to have more options but the Orange sounds good also.
Starting at 8:00
This is THE metal sound for me
I love lunchbox amps, I adore my 6505 mh!
have you modded it in anyway?
the volume on the orange needed to be turned up a bit
Love a good bit of mono audio mate
Are these little amps LOUD enough in a thrash band UN mic'ed, like in rehearsals? If they are I'm getting one!!
If you have a 4×12 cabinet, yes they are
Laney for me. I love the crunch on the Orange, but i find the definition clearer and sharper on the Ironheart.
I think most people don't consider Laney amps because they are too affordable and so they think of them as subpar quality.

Cool vid, gotta say I personally prefers the laney tones, currently waiting the arrival of a SLS 300w version🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
haha....lunchboxes at the beginning. i'm looking at the laney but what do you think about the laney 15 watt studio?
Rotter Studios I think I want one. They look amazing

The Laney
The Laney sounds fantastic at TV volume.
Question: If the Laney has a headphone output, does that mean that mean it has a "speaker defeat" feature that allows it to be disconnected from a cabinet without harming the amp?
No bro
Yes.
Quote from the manual: A cabinet need not be connected when using headphones, but avoidaccidental disconnection of the headphone lead whilst playing
Man that laney just growls
Nice comparison
Make a lesson Burzum - En Ring til å herske, please.
I think you cracked it at the with the two together...
I preferred the Laney though.
Pretty nice songs congrats.
\m/
Dark terror sounds great. You ever tried Peavey 6505mh?
No. Badly want one though!!
Great video and killer riffage...
Thanks buddy
Definetly more in the laney, but I like the Orange a lot more
friend do you still own the ironheart 15w ?
Which one of these 2 would be more apartment friendly? (Low volume metal tone)
The Laney by far
Laney sounds great at T.V. levels. Orange lunchboxes need more volume to sound good
@@Frett3000 the dark terror can actually be played and sound good at any volume. I have one in my apartment and it sounds great at low volumes.
Would the laney work good for gigs or shows not concerts
Yes it would do.
The Orange has limited EQ but honestly I think that's perfect for the whoever just wants to plug their amp in and just instantly know what it's gonna sound like, both sound great tho
Lmao hilarious and amazing equipment Simon i also use a black star amph its an ID CORE really useful
I like the Laney
Wow I think they both sound great. But something about that orange....Sounds sweet. 👍👍
From what song is the riff at 4:16? Sounds really nice
Just something I was jamming
@@SimonSmithGuitar ah okay, sounded kinda familiar
But could you give me tabs of the riff? :D I like it
Every amp should have a Pre-Boost or a Pre-Gain stage built in. That's what many guitar players are looking for... am I wrong? To me, a good amp is an amp that does not need any overdrive in front of it!
Yeah Laney has the right idea here. Of course their pre-boost could be improved upon, but its better than most other brands going without a boost.
A good amp can still be great with a drive into it, I run 4 drives into my amp and combine them in different ways for different colors!
I usually don't like built in pre-boosts much, I prefer the character of my pedals.
5:37 vs 7:52
Great video but you confuse me more than i am already hahaha
I can grab orange for 290 and laney for 270...which one will have the best tone for thing like slipknot stone sour soil... BTW your video are really nice !
Look into Orange's signature Jim Root #4 Tiny Terror 15W Amp Head
what about Peavey 6505 MH ?
Not triedone. Good?
I tried the 6505mh side by side with a Laney IRT Studio at a local shop. The 6505mh was a nice amp, but the Laney blew it away. The 6505mh sounded fizzy by comparison, while the Laney growled. krank krankenstien jr awesome lunch box amp

@Rhizomio Never heard of em, are they recently new in the market?
I like the 🍊 Dark Terror. Looks like a torture machine 🤘😠🤘
I'd take that Laney any day over the Orange.
It's a great amp!!
I have the orange and love it but wouldn't mind that laney too. Both sound great..
egregion same
Good
I got the EVH 5150 III lbx 1 and 2 heads and I think those are best.
Try the dark terror with a fortin 33 hooked up to it. Fucking chugs like a sludgy tone train.
U need to here lead tp see how an amp sounds
Orange all the way!!
Haha, on the run through the controls you omitted to crank the mids on the Ironheart!?
Don't need that for Metal, eh ; )
DerEchteBold Oh my god, I didn't even realise I'd done that!! Good spot.
It really wasn't on purpose?
Well... a totally subconscious mid-reluctance then I guess?!
God knows what I was thinking!!!
You must try all the EQ knobs at 5 on the Ironheart
Ok I will
Codex Death Metal I did. It totally slayed!! Great suggestion
Yep. Sounds killer!
love my irt15h. crank the volume up to noon, you will love the result. but first, change the EL84 to JJ..
Laney Ironheart 15 more good in mix)
with my f@@@s neighbors laney is the way to go....
Orange is good

Laney com muito mais recursos e não embaralha o som!
NOTIFICATION SQUAD.
Also, it seems to me that the Dark Terror has superior tones when dialled correctly, but it also seems easier to dial in something proper wank. Laney seems to sound relatively decent pretty much everywhere EQ wise, but is just missing something, ya know?
Just a nice boost pedal does the trick with the IRT15, most of the time I use a pedal to hammer the input and it makes this amp sound bigger.
Laney
If we're talking metal tones and general range of overdriven tonality, it's the Orange all the way.
I have both and I love both for their characters, so I'm just here to rain on the party. Because... comparing tube amps at ~10% of their power tube volume is a bit, well, unrepresentative. I am sure if you used an OD with the forever princess head it would chugg like the spawn of satan himself
Hotone heart attack only...
Ironheart blast the orange!
laney sounds better
Оранж круче
Laney sounds better
Laney sounds better but its also 300 dollsrs more

Uh...the Laney 15 is $500 and the Dark Terror is $650
The labey got raped, dark terror sounds a lot better
bareknuckle pickups? why for this test? yuck.
Todd Crawford how come?
